[Q] Increased Batterydrain from App2SD??? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, i'm just searching for the cause of my high battery-drain.
And i just came to think of it... Could it be that pushing apps to sd results in a higher Energy drain, when using them?
It'd be quite interessting to know, cause if it is that way i'd go back to oldschool and install my most frequently used apps back on my Phone.

no that should not be the cause of high battery drain.
normally it's because of auto sync, high brightness, or radio is not compatible.
do u use stock rom ?

No I'm actually using Leedroids 2.2.1+1 with the new 2.2.8 Kernel and the advised Radio...
I already tried other Radios but that didn't seem to be the cause of my high batterydrain...
Let's see, I'll try different things to get better Battery... mine ise at about 240ma...

Have you checked to see if anything is constantly syncing? Checked your partial wake usage? What about monitoring in System Panel?
Are you from Glenview, Illinois? I grew up there, live in Northbrook now.
Well i guess is not another way to solve this
Oh cool man and yeah all the sync its off and all the other stuff i just start having this issue after install the new king kernel ( bad idea ).

way to give up buddy.
a billion people have an htc evo who at one time had battery issues and fixed them, but there is absolutely NO way to solve YOUR battery problem.
There are a ton of variables as to why your battery drains. What rom are you running, if any custom rom at all? Kernel? Theme? Whats your screen brightness setting, or your screen off time? Do you watch a lot of movies? Are you on the internet all day? Is your GPS on or off? Is your blue-tooth on or off? How much time do you spend on facebook? how much time on Twitter? How far are you away from a tower? How strong of a signal do you have? etc etc ETC
Edit: Ok cool, well can you flash back to your previous kernel and see if things get better again?
hmm... have you tried flashing back to your last known good config? Did you do a nandroid before flashing the kernel? What kernel were you using before that was working? Have you tried flashing that one?
Yes i did all my reading before posting im using the stock rom, with the stock kernel now. I did not jave this issue before my battery was perfect until i flash the king kernel and yes i use a back up and flash it but i did not work
I just wanna know if its another metod to recalibrate the battery besides just pluging in and pluging off the cellphone
I just wanna know if its another metod of recalibrate the battery besides pluging in and pluging off the cellphone
You can wipe your battery stats in recovery, but I don't think that will help TBQH.
If something is draining your battery you need to do some detective work to figure out what is doing it. My first post in this thread suggests a couple things to start with.
Yes friend i did that already mmm i guess im gonna try with another battery to see what happened
Your problem is in kings kernel, i know he was working on it not sure if he has solved it, try the cfs 10 one.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
That was his new release isnt? Thats the one i used and screw everythig :-(
Try reflashing it, maybe it will work then? How long ago did you flash to this new kernel?
Maybe you could give it a couple charging cycles just to be sure. Work with it for a week or so, letting the battery charge down, and then charging it back up again a couple times.
thanks for the tip im gonna do this but with the stock kernel i seems today it last a lil longer i was sufing, texting, even playing and making calls and it last me 7 hrs with out charging. i uninstall sport tap though i read something about that app that use to much conection
try this

i am pretty sure is problem is flashing a custom kernel with a stock rom, other way round (stock kernel with custom rom) probably fine, but i am getting off point, i have never been able to get my battery to reset properly, but on my phone its just a minor annoyance. the only way i have found that comes close
first of all i would really suggest you switch to amon ra if your not already useing it
(also you must do all this in one recovery booting so make sure you have good battery/ phone plugged in)
1. wipe battery data (again the same way you did)
2. factory reset phone wipe data davilik all that then do the battery again
3. flash http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo.../font></div>&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13176886532531
this will wipe your phone
4. flash http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...en_Lightning&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13176887115882
this is your new rom, and kernel, its all in one. it should fix any battery problems because superwipe will destroy extremely completely anything on your phone,
PS. if you want to keep your contacts and applications, before you do anything above, go to the market and download my backup root and make backups of your contacts and applications, then when you do it all download it again from the market and bam you got all ur stuff

The overheating means something is using your battery...a lot! If your phone is trying to sync a lot in a no signal area it will do this. First put it into flight mode and see if that helps. If it does then it is definitely data related. Then set all syncs to manual and delete social apps you don't use like Google +. If it does not help then it is an errant app. Easy fix is to reset data and reinstall everything. Harder way is to get Betterbatterystats and see what's using your battery. Also Memory Booster Lite task killer will show you all the things using your memory that may be draining your battery. Hope this helps.

No the issue is in the phone. Are you rooted? Can you back up your stuff? If so try a factory data reset. If that fixes the problem add back your apps a few at a time to see if the problem comes back and then figure out which app is causing it. Did you try putting the phone in airplane/flight mode to see if it solves the problem?

What app to use to find running apps?

Just use the stock App Manager in settings. And if battery is an issue, go to About Phone, then battery and you can see whats been using it. Hope this helped
i like ZDbox app.
don't use task manager they screw **** up more then they fix, suggestion,
Find the list of safe to remove apps and remove ones u don't need, apps lik keis, mms, gmail/email, etc are constantly running, remove and replace wirh 3rd party counterparts.
Use a rom with CIQ removed, use undervolting scripts helps with battery aswell.
I can't stress this enough, DONT USE TASK KILLERS unless u know what their actually designed for.
Think of it like a PC in this sense, if you use taskmanager and kill a load of programs, depending on what u kill, can have horrible side effects, in the sense of android, when an apps not closed properly, peices can still exist in the ram.
Those peices can have effects on that, and other programs on your phone.
Your best bet for clearing ram is a reboot.
Simple, as for seeing programs running, hold home and hit taskmanager (plz keep in mind the above)
Or simply go to SETTINGS>applications>memory use and click running tab on top right.
Hope this helps. Peace

Ye there's no way it should b doin that..
10pm to 5:30am my battery drops 7-10%
@OP
2 possible solutions:
1.) Above post gut it pretty good
2.) Kernels not allowing deep sleep mode, flash a new kernel
#2 seems more plausible at this point considering your OP in full.
If its abnormal battery drain screen off ur phones not enabling deep sleep.
At this point most apps are effectively "paused" or slowed down
Making the battery drain almost irrelevant, my battery dies about 1% hourly screen off
Thanks to this mode.
Apps like SetCPU etc. Can also cause this if configured incorrectly
If using a CPU. Control app, uninstall it, trust the phone enough to do
Its own thing.
I will never recommend taskmanagers or CPU utilitys, if I did, what's the point in kernel deving besides OC?

Possible ATT JB update battery drain fix - root only

I had been getting some higher battery drain with JB than I was with ICS, both were on rooted stock ATT roms. Early on I had posted that it was about the same as ICS, but after more and more use, I was starting to find that it really wasn't. I was consuming about 5-8% per hour idle and 10+ while actually using it. The idle bothered me the most because, obviously, using a phone will drain the battery
Two things have stood out as the high consumers: Media Scanner and poor signal.
To address the media scan drain, there have been suggestions to change CWM settings to backup as .tar rather than default .dup. This ONLY works if you re-do each nandroid that was a .dup as a .tar, delete the .dup backups, and clear the unused backup data through CWM. This removes the blobs folder files which will be in the thousands.
To address the poor signal drain, I flashed the UCLH9 modem (see modems thread in the development forum). Better Battery Stats is not showing any drain caused by poor signal, and this is also reflected by actual usage, the signal is simply... better.
Consumption is marginally higher than on ICS but not nearly as high as I was experiencing. If this has already been covered, my apologies for eating up server space...
Could you alternatively put a .nomedia file into the clockworkmod folder on the device? Would that prevent it from scanning that folder?
Well I'm bone stock and not rooted, I have no backups and the media is eating my battery like mad since the update. I've killed the process several times but it starts back up on its own. The only way I know to fix it will require root.

There is a rogue app in the stock TW that is doing it. I have seen it in every 4.1.2 port. Run a de-bloat and it will go away.
Do you know what bloat exactly is causing it?

I have all the att and Samsung bloat frozen via TiBu.
Trust me, something is there. I never had the chance to figure out exactly which app it was though. I have a feeling that it may have something to do with a Samsung app.
I would suggest using OS Monitor from the Play Store. Make it show all system processes and see if you can dig deeper into it.
Edit: Also, here is my humble opinion too. People keep wanting new and better features. Well, that always comes at a cost. Just remember that. The iPhone boys are learning that the hard way too.

I agree with that sentiment... I'm considering reverting back to ICS but the smoothness of jelly beans is too enticing.
after making these changes yesterday I got a 40% battery consumption over 9 hours with average use which IMHO is plenty.
Solution is to reboot the phone OR unmount by going into settings, storage and unmount the USB there instead of from the notification bar. I think this solution works but have not tried it myself.
rebooting whenever the os gets out of hand, or unmounting the SD card, is not a viable option IMHO.
my post was directed toward root users who have cwm installed and are experiencing the media drain because of the blob files. the modem change I tried because all the reliable jelly bean ports seem to use the H9 modem. a weak mobile signal is detrimental to battery life, as is a weak or intermittent WiFi signal.
believe me, on my rooted phone, these two changes made a real and noticeable improvement in battery life in JB. I've gone half the day today on ICS and half the day on JB. battery consumption is now within the range I had on ICS.
one the one hand, I believe that some increase in consumption is due to the "omg I has the jelly beans and I'm going to use the bejeasus out of my phone" factor. I also believe that a good number of fixes and patches are simply a placebo effect. BUT, my phone had been getting hot and tearing up the battery due to signal searching in areas where it had been fine prior to the update. heck, we have an att tower within 100 ft if my office, I typically pull 69-70mbps at work. on the k3 modem I was regularly dropping data or losing LTE. not anymore.
Un mounting then re mounting seems to have worked for me the process can now be killed!

Bad Battery Life since KitKat

Hi Guys,
i have a bit of a problem with the battery in my GNex maguro.
I'm an avid Rom flasher, but when i have something that works well i usually settle with it for a while. So i flashed Cataclysm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995801) sometime in the last months and it was running great. Best bettery life i had so far.
Then with the release of Android 4.4 i looked for a rom to test it. I flashed XP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539201) and i really like the 4.4 changes.
But since then my battery won't even last a day in standby mode. I thought maybe it's an issue with 4.4. still, but even after flashing back to Cataclysm (newest release) i still had the same issues. I thought it may well be, that the final version isn't what it used to be, so i flashed another rom again. This time Purity (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012706) aaaand... still the same problem. So now i'm pretty much lost. I also tried different kernels (lean kernel specifically) but to no avail.
My battery used to last 2+ days in idle mode. Now i can see my battery drop every minute. It barely holds over 10 hours. I already did a full phone wipe and flashed back to stock before installing cataclysm again but still no improvement.
I hope someone can help me here or point in the right direction.
Sorry if this topic already exists, but the search funtion doesn't seem to work right now and google didn't show something helpfull.
Thank you all in advance.
I don't know why you would still have bad battery life moving back to the original rom you used but.. on 4.4 it is most likely the new Google Now features that constantly listen for voice commands. Disable it by long pressing on an empty part of the home screen and go to settings. Slide Google Now Off and go to voice and turn off hotword detection as well.
I get great standby battery life on 4.4. I'm running the 11/29 ART build of cmetal(toro), 150ish hours of uptime without any issues so far.
Re: Bad Battery Life since KK
What kernel are you running? Are you just using whatever kernels come with each ROM?
I'll try turning off google now and the voice stuff and report back.
It still seems really weird to me, that the problem still persists after flashing back to 4.3. My guess would be, that 4.4 flashes something hidden that messes with the battery. But i don't know where or what.
Especially since it persists after a complete wipe (/data, /system and /cache).
Well, i'll see how it behaves without google now.
What kernel are you running? Are you just using whatever kernels come with each ROM?

Well i used mostly lean Kernel with 4.3 roms but i can't find any 4.4 kerneles besides CM. I have XP installed right know which uses CM Kernel.
Re:Bad Battery
Make sure your governor is set to interactive or ondemand...it could be seeing power drain from being set to one of the performance settings.
It's also possible that your battery is just going bad...do you have a backup battery you can try?

It could just be that you need to replace your battery. They are only good for so many charges and do degrade.

Reporting back. After deactivating google now yesterday my battery is still ****. It's at 50% after 2h idle and 30 minutes screentime. Before the 4.4 flash it would be at around ~85-90% now. I suspect that 4.4 flashes something in some hidden partition that i don't have access to, that messes with the battery. Users on other boards report the same issues as i have.

Could be, of course. But it's kinda weird that the decline is so dramatic and it has to be a pretty big coincidence that it just happend after a 4.4 flash. Seems unlikely to me.
edit: I'll order a new battery just to eliminate the battery as the source of error.

Same problem here. Since I flashed Kitkat on my phone, battery life isn't enough to last a day on standby. I tried installing another kernel (ASKP) but to no avail. Please keep in mind that I'm not very experienced with custom roms and rooting my phone. Does anyone have some good tips to improve battery life?
Update: After fiddling around a bit with better battery stats, greenify and a bunch of other stuff... i still don't have a solution. I made some screenshots of my stats, but can't post them here because i don't have permission to do that...
So i reflashed swordrune's cm11 rom and it seems to be working better with 1080p kernel w/o art enabled. i'm 11 hrs in with 80% battery on the extended battery (toro btw)

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm also experiencing battery issues after flashing the XP 4.4 rom. I did enjoy it but the battery drain was terrible. Ok, back again. hibernated every app and system-app that was running in background. Still wasn't getting better. I then saw the only services still running are google location services. I deactivated them now to see if these are causing it.
The biggest wakelocks i have are "wlan_rx_wake" which seem to be a known problem with KK:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519294
I then researched again and found several threads in google groups which describe the same problems that i have. Across several devices (though mostly Nexus 4, 5 and 7).
Google seems to be aware of that issue and is working on it.

Yes, same for me. Charging is really slow since 4.4 as is the bootprocess of my phone. From the first vibrate when switching the phone on it takes ~10 seconds until the google logo pops up.

2. try install trickster mod app. this app can help you for tweaking into deep sleep, also help for optimizing.
