kinda odd to ask. but is there a virus protection apk that can be used with rooted phones that wont freak out and say "hey dumbass your rooted everything is a damn virus"
I use Lookout just fine and it never says anything is malicious. What is it that your phone thinks is a virus? Being rooted does not make a virus protection program think you're infected. You're just turning the protection of not being able to modify your phone off for personal use.
well ive tried a couple. but i did avg. that found like 300. even after a fresh install.
Why would one need a virus program on a phone? Lol are you downloading porn torrents from your phone. Those virus apps are a joke. Can you explain to me why I would need one? I'm not being a smart ass I really want to know why. Seriously.

Mobile lookout is one that, to my surprise, actually works. It blocks the rage exploit which is what those malware apps were reported to use. It also blocks attempts to root since the same thing is used for that.

Don't waste the battery and cpu cycles on something that quite frankly is borderline worthless. The trust thing is ironic. You will trust an app you didnt write to protect you from other apps you didnt write

Avast for lost/stolen device tracking, allows device disable if the SIM is changed. Also allows you to lock, unlock, wipe, sound alarm by SMS. Hopefully I never need to use it.
From what i understand any perceived need for antivirus/malware scanning will disappear with 4.2 and the new Play Store.

Antivirus apps are pointless.
For lost/stolen I've been loving SeekDroid for a while now. Very nice app and works with out fail any time I test it.
Search for pdroid !
Btw antivirus = gimmick nothing else !
That's a good app I used to use it but it gets owned by cerberus. Try that it has way more features for a one time 3.99 fee. U can test free for a week.

+1 for seekdroid. Got it for free from Amazon a while ago but have found that its pretty good. Haven't had to 'test' it for real just yet but gives me a bit of piece of mind.
Reality is that if your phone is stolen, likelihood of getting it back is pretty slim. For me, real important part would be able to wipe my data to protect myself from anything more than losing a couple hundred bucks on a device.
None, I don't believe in them. If my phone gets lost or stolen then that's that, little can be done afterwards. Police often times wont help and knocking on the persons door and demanding the phone will get you nowhere except property trespassing. Even then, I doubt my offender would want to use any of my information stored on my phone. Any smart thief would know to wipe the phone clean to avoid any of these apps which don't do much. As far a viruses go, really? The only reason anti-virus apps where made was to satisfy the needs of the paranoid, lets leave it at that.
I was mainly speaking of anti theft app, and not to get the phone back, but yes to wipe everything!

cerebus. it's great. went to the washroom and left my phone in my meeting room. i come back and check my email and there's a photo of my co-worker trying to punch in the wrong PIN code. lol.
I dont have one installed right now, but when I do it's Lookout. I have had lookout stop installation for an app before, I was sideloading it. I dont keep one installed for normal use of the phone and Play Store, but if I was going to be sideloading apps again I would use it for that.
Cerberus is by far the best security app I've used.

Info from Lookout Mobile Security...:
Dear Sirshank,
I'm sorry for the confusion. Our latest set of malware detection signatures went out to our users today. Unfortunately it misidentifies the app "Fandango" as the malware. If you've received this warning please ignore it - we are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Thanks for using Lookout!

I'm with you.. Android really has nothing to worry, nor really does windows unless you're one of those types of people that always goes on random sites and installs everything.. Truthfully if you have to worry about anything its going to be spyware.. Everything else is so slow and dumb founded to get that anyone with half a brain about PCs shouldn't get a virus.. Of course I do have one installed on my PC.. BC of my wife lol..
Exactly. As far as I'm concerned when it comes to android the only thing you really need to worry about is installing warez.

I came to the forum last night to look around. .. And Google Chrome kicked me out screaming about malware....
This is the first time it happened last night. ...
Any one else ever get this?
I was on my desktop pc about 130 am or so..
Yep got the same message last night, I ran a scan last night after logging off, nothing found though.
Hmmmm. I wonder if they added an upgrade to the servers or if it had bad advertising on the site

Happened to me as well.. Something going on within this xda site off internet browsers..chrome kicked me out saying malware alert..from site....
I had to go into settings and advance settings..and click off enable malware phishing setting ..which ibdint want to leave off.. What's going on with xda now?

Yep, I'm sure I could find some of these apps to pirate, but they are more than reasonably priced, and I am very hopeful that money truly does go where it belongs (to the bright minds that make them). Especially after taking an intro college course to programming and finding out that I have no idea how complex these programs really get. The best backup app is less than $10, certainly don't get that on windows.

There is a difference between silently downloading a paid app for free and bragging about it to the world like you are some badass that knows how to use Google or torrents or whatever.
For the record, I have downloaded pirated apps but have replaced all of them with the paid parts from the store.
I usually only download a pirated app to try it out if there is no free version. But sometimes I can't find the latest version and give up. If the apps worth the money/ I wanna support the dev I have no problem paying.
I do enjoy my hassle free updates that's for sure

Whoa. No one said I was bragging about that lol. I was simply stating that a large percentage of people have taken part in it and I find it hard to believe when someone says that they have NEVER done so. Taking people's hard work and not paying a dime for it is a shame and if I was a developer I'd be very angered with piracy. Look at the Dead Trigger devs. Those guys are pissed beyond belief and I don't blame them. I pay for my apps now, but back when I was naive and ignorant I took my part in piracy too. Don't twist my words around dude lol I do not condone piracy especially since apps are dirt cheap.
