Apparently you haven't tried searching for your answer yet, or you wouldn't have asked as it would already have been answered. You're unable to root as of right now unless you had s-off previously. Temp root only, with visionary+ is possible.

How do I get s-off

yes your phone is too new for a root access. you have to wait until rooting that hboot is possible. right now, we can only root up to .93. mandanick from androidforums had this to say:
I also have hboot 1.06, and as of now, I have not yet found a way to downgrade my hboot version to one of the lower ones. Over with unrEVOked there is a gentleman named Matt who has been working on it for a while now. On chat I was told that it would PROBABLY be included with the next release of unrEVOked. We can hope
so paintently wait and youll at some point b able to root. paitence it required thou

[Q] HELP! Root desire hboot 0.93 without flashing a new rom/possible?

Hello there xda-devs!!
I own an htc desire A8181 (amoled i think) and i fell into the temptation to root it. The problem is that i updated OTA into 2.2 froyo and my hboot now is 0.93.00001 on which the unrevoked method wont work (at leat for me it did not, as it showed : "validation error: backup cid is missing" ). I have installed the modified drivers and my desire is unbranded. I was hoping to find a method to root without losing any data or settings and since everyone showed as an alternative hboot downgrade and custom rom, so i thought " what if i downgraded hboot but i did not flash a new rom ", but the question is "is it possible?"
As you may have figured out, i dont know much about rooting/flashing etc, although i have some experience from flashing kaiser and some others, but i am willing to learn. If anyone could give me a hint/link/suggestion or solution to my problem it would be gratefully appreciated
PS thank you in advance and sorry for my english

AFAIK, the latest unrevoked works fine with the 0.93.00001 - quite sure I read this in one of the threads.

Thanks for the quick response! Actually these posts were the first that i read when i first thought of rooting and i believe that i have correctly followed the steps of the how to for the unrevoked (version 3.22 straight from the unrevoked site) and i tried twice on different computers(both running win xp home x86). As for the alternatives on benko's tut, none of them supports OTA 2.2 froyo...
After thought and some reading, I decided that I will downgrade to 2.1, root using unrevoked and then flash to prerooted froyo. Actually, since the point is not to lose settings or data, does anyone know a safe way to back up everything and restore them to the new rom?
I have the same model as you mate and the latest unrevoked worked for me, I downloaded the one straight from their website.

Had you also updated OTA with froyo? If yes then why doesn't it work for me? I am sure that the phone is unbranded. Maybe it's something else and not hboot? My current specs are:
*Hboot:: 0.93.001
*Radio: 5.11.05.27
*Rom: 9.29.405.2 (got the update a week ago)
The only thing that I did not follow in the unrevoked guide, was that I didn't select hboot while loading the drivers, because I could not, no matter how many times I pressed the volume down button.I just waited for it to change to usb plug. Could that be the problem?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Something else I noticed the first time I tried with unrevoked, was that in the revoked window it showed "triumph" for a moment and then it rebooted for the last time and then it showed "validation error..". Strange is that it never showed it again not even on the 2nd or 3rd try...What could that mean?

Thanks for the tip, but this is about BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON while my desire is PVT1 SHIP S-OFF and it says that these are able to root but not flash a Rom, while I can't even root.. and the errors do not match..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you're S-OFF now then you don't need to root - if anything you might be already!
As you hadn't said anything about the rest of the HBOOT I thought I'd mention it but I'm on 0.93 and can root with no issues
And what does it mean? I am already root and I don't know it? And why does then the unrevoked method not work and where is the superuser app?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If the Superuser app isn't there then you're not rooted, so that clears that up...
Go read the S-OFF thread in Development and post a query on there. It sounds like you may have a facotry unlocked bootloader which is extremely rare but best go and confirm it in the forum
Ok. I'm going now. Thank you Eddy and the others for your great help

try installing the HTC sync drivers and then remove HTC sync and try again.
If possible switch to Ubuntu and root, its much better.

Hi I recently tried using unrevoked 3.22 and it really didnt seem to work as I got a "validation error: backup cid is mising". However after a reboot I found myself in clockworkmod recovery, so that part seemed to work. However straight afterwards I tried to start the phone, I discovered had no access to SD card and any attempt to access phone via USB also gone, it seems Bluetooth is also gone. However I got the SD card back again using FASTBOOT, has anyone got any ideas how I could possibly get USB back?
Hello cletus. I may not know the solution to your problem, but usually posting some further info about your device(HBOOT, radio etc) and the exact steps you made before that problem, might help someone that would like to help
I really hope that you find a solution to your problem

I used Unrevoked to root my girl's phone a few weeks ago, and it turned s-off. I would try running it again. Maybe one of the processes didn't go through properly. Both Unrevoked and Unrevoked Forever turn s-off, so I can't think of any good reason why it is still on.
I ttried that once and it says unsuccessful with an E msg. And says aborted or something. I don't remem er exactly. I will have to try again later. Should I undo what is done or just try it again?
I agree, just try it again. Sometimes it just may not work... I had to go through the process twice before mine worked and came back with it rooted.
You can use one of the following methods (assuming you are on 0.97).
[ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ (updated for 2.02)(12/15/10) by xHausx or [TUTORIAL] How To Root The HTC EVO ~ Part-1 \0/ by toastcfh which is what I used.
I'm not dismissing xHausx or any of the automated system builders as they do fantastic work for us. However, I think I actually like the second method better for myself as it seems I am more in control.
If you need further information on rooting or other EVO information, the Wiki has great information.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Try it again first as is, and if that doesn't work, try reverting back to stock and doing the whole thing over.

Not yet. I didn't have much time when I tried unrevoked again. I will try one of tem next.
You need to use "Unrevoked Forever". Its the next link down on the download page.
I tried unrevoked 3 times. I'm rooted but I'm still s-on. So when i get a chance I'm going to try one of the suggested roots.
Auto root just keeps telling me no device is found. And I can't get the second one to let me inter commands. I haven't messed with it much. I have super user and I flashed cyanogen mod but I can't get it to go S-off.
HTC EVO 4G
Try unrooting completely, and then run unrevoked's program again (both forever and 3)
I'm not sure if this was the problem but I cleaned out my SD card and flashed unrevoked and it worked like a charm. I'm fully rooted now just to fine a cool rom. Thanks for the help.
JUST FLASH UNREVOKED FOREVER FROM RECOVERY!!! go to unrevoked.com, click on the big evo, hit unrevoked forever, search through the lengthy wiki for the file, download, and flash from recovery like a theme. will turn s-off for all hboots and radios, will even stick through a hboot upgrade/downgrade.
I Did! 6 times and the last time it worked!!!!!

[q] rooting htc desire 2.2 froyo hboot 1.06

Just thought I would make a new thread on here so someone could help. I have searched for HOURS trying to find a why and even tried combining some methods with the same end result. :-( Surely between us... "the world wide web" we can find a way. I'm not a genius but I learn very quickly. Any help is greatly appreciated. So far it says it can't be done, but I have faith that we are better than that. So what do you think?
My desire has the updated android 2.2 with the new hboot 1.06 not rooted and s-on.
hi there,
head over to http://revolutionary.io/ and s-off your device, (make sure you have USB debugging selected in settings on your phone, and when asking for your beta key select: Desire CDMA, and select your 1.06 hboot), then download the superuser from http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and flash that in recovery
if you need any help pm me
I have tried that. One of the requirements is that it must be rooted. I can not root my phone using Revolutionary because it is not supported yet. You can S-off the desire Hboot 1.06 but I cannot find ways to root and you must be rooted before you s-off to my knowledge. Please correct me if I am wrong. I will try again though. Thank you.
Unrevoked 3 runes through everything PERFECT until the very end. It says Desire was a TRIUMPH and under that then states "internal error nand root?" I just want to root this so i can flash and install cyanogen 7.
Your device does not need to be rooted to run revolutionary, and it is supported I checked

When I do that it gets stuck at waiting for fast boot.......
done.. had to do it a bit tricky but good to go now. fully rooted with s-off running cyanogen 7.0.3

[Q] Wildfire S HELP!!!

This is a long story!
My firend asked me to take a look at his daughters phone as the wifi had stopped working. They had already sent it away to be fixed but got the phone back with big letter saying it had illegal software on it so they (orange) refused to fix the phone. I assumed she had been trying to root the phone but only did half a job.
I now have the hboot unlocked but for love nor money can I get the phone to install any roms....I assume the rooting process hasnt worked
The only reason I wanted to load a custom rom was to see if it rectified the wifi problem.
Phone info -
Orange Branded Wildfire S
2.3.5 android
2.1 Sense
2.14.61.1 software
UNLOCKED
Marvel PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 1.08.0099
Radio- 7.53.39.03M
Im not even fussed about custom firmware if anyone can point me to an installer that might help.
The wifi status says 'error'
Have you used a rooting method???? 'cause just unlocking the bootloader doesn't mean rooting it..... and do install CWM for it
I used the supertool v3 which gave me the rooted message. There any way to check it was defo successfull?

Do you have a "Superuser" app in your drawer?
I was just about to say that the method that gave me rooted meant u had to manually install the superuser but I have no wifi......so no
with the supertool I get a loading scipt message which freezes....well taking longer than advised
Try manually installing superuser, and try using apps that require root permissions. Other than that, i don't know what else could confirm if your rooting was successful.
and how do I manually install it? I have no wifi and this is my first play with a HTC phone ;-)
Try googling for Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed zip and place it on sd card
I think you will need to have cwm recovery installed first, then boot into recovery and install the zip
If you have problems installing cwm, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431969
Zapirkon.....youre a legend......all going to plan thus far...Ill update (when I run into more problems lol)
am installing the CyanogenMod 7.2 but its taking forever on the scrren with the swirling circle
Sweet. All sorted.
I reinstalled the zip file but I restored and deleted the cache which seemed to do the trick. And most importantly it sorted iut the wifi problem and the other little random niggles.....so all in all I saved my mate £130! THANKS to those that helped

[Q] Unrevoked site Forbidden, can't get root for froyo

I have a new(used) HTC EVO 4g. I am trying to root it before I activate it. I was following directions (can't post link as a noob, but) 4-GUIDE-WIP-How-to-achieve-S-OFF-after-unlocking-2-18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark
and successfully unlocked the bootloader and removed the watermark.
However, when I get to the actual rooting step, it appears that either unrevoked is gone, or having some issue (or blocking me!) as I get 403 Forbidden errors. I have done an exhaustive search (including on this site, where I found someone had posted the file in dropbox but I get a 404 error on that one) and I cannot find either the unrevoked package or any other way to root my evo!
I would be very grateful for some help. Here are my specs:
android 2.2
baseband 2.15.00.11.19
software version 3.70.651.1
When I am in the bootloader menu, I see:
Supersonic evt2-3 Ship S-ON
HBOOT 2.10.0001
(I do not have the watermark saying "locked" or "unlocked")
Sorry to be a noob, but I have rooted several phones before but I just have no clue without the software...
As a side note- here are files I have found and managed to download (if there is a way to use them or if I haven't already used them to get this far): HTCDriver 3.0.0.0007, unrevoked-forever.zip, (I don't think this is the same as unrevoked3, which I need, but correct me if I am wrong) revolutionary-0.4pre4.zip, pc36IMG.zip (but not sure where i got this one from, so not sure what it is an image of.)

Is that really necessary? I could swear I read somewhere in the step-by-steps that it wasn't necessary to activate first. Since it will cost me $35 to activate it and the $35 to reactivate my existing phone if I can't get this rooted, I really have no desire to activate yet. Plus seeing as the problem I am having is in accessing the website I need to go to download the files for rooting, I can't see why activating would make any difference?

Okay, I actually fixed it myself--- Still have no idea what is going on with unrevoked site-- either it is my ISP or the site is bad. Either way, I finally found another way to root. Here on this site, I found a rooting method that was older, HBOOT 2.10 SOFF, and that worked fine for me!

The Unrevoked site is down.
I must point out that "YOU WERE LUCKY", as that root method only works on the older Evos with the old hardware. It has been known to brick the newer Evos, as you could have easily done if you had the new hardware. Without Unrevoked, the safest method to root the phone would be to update it to one of the later builds (Gingerbread) and either use Revolutionary or the HTCdev site, depending on the build to unlock the bootloader. Then flash a custom recovery followed by a superuser.zip file.
Yikes!

Yikes! Wow, glad I was a lucky one! Not surprised I have an older Evo, I got it off ebay.
I actually had started with Revolutionary, but my HBOOT was 2.18 (I think) and that only worked with 2.16 and 2.17. So then I went and downgraded to the 2.10, etc....
Just in case I need to know in the future, is the unrevoked site down temporarily or permanently?

I don't know for sure, but since mostly everyone is now on Gingerbread builds and very few are still using Froyo, don't be surprised if that root method is never up again.
