wpcentral has a trick for how to install NoDO right now!!!
As we all know, international unlocked phones are already getting the update and the link tells you how to do it!!
EDIT: Only works on HTC phones as usual
EDIT2: It's only Pre-NoDO
did this with my HTC Surround on AT&T. it only updated from 7004 to 7008. its just pre-NoDo

You are right. I was so crushed...
Chris Walshie (the guy behind the hack) said that it only gives NoDo for Europe right now because Microsoft has said that only unbranded European phones are getting it right now.
However, something to keep in mind is that this means that when NoDo is ready for North America, we won't have to wait for AT&T to dish it out.
Mango will be out by the time I get my phone back. I'm so sad.

It does at least with the Samsung Focus. I don't even get the pre-nodo without the change. Got the update notice immediately after the change.

What don't people understand about the staggered update process? Even if your phone is not locked to a carrier, it is not guaranteed to get the update on the first day.
If you can get the pre-NoDo update after the hack, then you'll get the NoDo update when it's released in your region AND your phone hits the right server.
People who have multiple unlocked phones have experienced one phone being updated while the one sitting next to it doesn't.
So I repeat, this hack enables your to receive all updates released to the "open market" phones. It doesn't guarantee you'll receive it on the first day though.

Your comment makes no sense.
If its regional then 2 phones sat on the same desk both unlocked will both get the update as there both sat in the same region.

If you are running the Beta it will definitly be impossible to upgrade from the Beta to the final, carrier and OEM approved version of Mango.
Most likely this will be the case for the leaked RTM as well but you never know. If you have to roll back to NoDo you will lose every Text and save games etc. created after you left NoDo, so downgrading to NoDo now will at least allow you to keep those after downgrading to NoDo.
However, if it turns out that you can upgrade from the leaked RTM to the final thing, then you won't lose anything and you might wanna take the risk and wait for the rollout to begin.
Awesome news
Just saw the post on twitter, and I must say that I'm pretty exited!
I'm actually gonna wipe my phone before the update. Some may wonder why, and it's simple: My region thingy won't work in Norway before Mango, HAH!
The wait is almost over y'all!

Yeah and an iPhone 5 announcement in about 2 weeks. Great timing MS, the apple rumors and excitement are just starting to draw attention from everything else.
Well look at this. THIS is exactly what they should be doing (albeit weeks ago, but still). Fantastic.

Also, verizon is lighting up quite a few around the same time... maybe the LTE iphone is possible after all .?

Yeah I read that as well but the instructions might just be "downgrade to NoDo using your backup" etc. Time will tell and fortunately it's not that far away.
The only reason they made the announcement is because we now know when Apple will reveal the next iPhone which basically means no living sould will give a damn about Mango. Way to go Microsoft, good luck with that!
I'll believe when I see it. Until then, it's all rumor and speculation.
There should have been a disclaimer that "unless you're on the AT&T network, then you'll need to wait until December or January since Mango is complex and needs to be tested before release."
Can anyone tell me why carriers have anything to do with updates at all? Carriers simply provide the infrastructure for a phone to work. What have they got to do with anything? It's something I have never understood. My ISP isn't testing my Windows 7 updates before I install them, why would they do so on my phone?

It has to do with service compatibility. They make sure the phones perform properly with the various services the carriers provide. Plus, on top of that, they make sure the phone that bares their logo and name performs to their specific standards. Any malfunctioning phone can potentially give the carrier a bad rep.
I know from experience that a phone sold outright...unlocked and from the handset maker...can be buggy as hell. Whereas the exact same phone under the carriers moniker is a sweet and well functioning phone. This doesn't apply to Apple, though. Apple is in full control of any and all updates for the iPhone. But I bet the carriers who carry iPhones are allowed testing before updates are issued.
I'm glad this is more concrete than the fall. Lets see if ATT keeps to their words and updates my damn phone in a week or two.
Not even fall yet and an official announcement. Good job.
Good news! Official Windows phone 7.8 update arrived to all windows phone 7.5 owners. Dont need to wait for carrier notification, update directly from microsoft.

Thats not directly a problem with 7.8 it is a problem how the app was coded. the developer of this particular app has done something wrong... his site has no valid url for a live tile so the OS searches again and again, because it can happen that the live tile is not found in the first attempt but this is the fault of the developer which has not fixed this issue where to find the new live tile picture...

That is because the official 7.8 update did not arrive to all WP owners...
Anyone on a US carrier -except for AT&T L900 users have not received the update ............................ yet.
T-Mobile cancelled the update for the 710...and probably for the Radar and HD7...
It is highly probable that AT&T or any other US carrier...will do the same

I had to do the Zune update cheat trick 4 times last night but finally ended up with 7.8 on my HTC Win 7 Pro.. Nice to have the aditional colors and resize of tiles. Wish it had bypassed the carrier and turned on ICS but oh well.
Custom ROMS
Does anyone know if this update works with a phone that currently has custom 7.8 on? I am running the deepshining 7.8ROM and is there much point in getting the official update? Does it fix the delay in opening apps?
Thanks

Still no update? I have an at&t Lumia 900 and got a message today that an update is available. I think there was some issue with the update earlier this year and they halted the roll out so they could fix something. Once the fix was made I guess they started rolling out the update slowly. I actually called at&t a couple of weeks ago and the guy I spoke with was clueless about Windows Phone 7.8. He kept swearing my phone was up to day. Then he put me on hold and spoke to several other people who were about as clueless. I really don't understand why people work in tech support if they have no interest in the device they are supporting.
Got It, But No Bluetooth Share
I got the update when plugging into Zune. No problems..However, still no availabilty of Nokia Bluetooth Share in the Marketplace. Marketplace still says not available for my device. I hate to say this, being a long time Windows Phone user, but this Bluetooth Share fiasco is a joke. Can no one get their act together any longer? I realize this is a Microsoft/Nokia issue but it is laughable now. Bluetooth Share continues to be hyped on the Nokia site as a benefit of 7.8. Well then, where is it?????????????????????????
I updated via Zune my ZTE Tania easy, in 15-20 minutes. New WP 7.8 is great, i like it.:highfive:
Hi guys so I'm helping my friend's Note 2 to manually update it to KK via kies cause OTA is still not available when checking on 'Check for updates' (Yeah it's over a month now and the update is still not there! freaky sam****)
So our problem is the kies dashboard just displays 'Latest firmware' for her device and we cannot see any other option to check updates for KK on kies, that is just stupid :/ Her Note 2 is on JB 4.3, so my question is, is there any possible way on how to get rid of that 'Latest firmware' label on her device via Samsung Kies to be able to get the latest update?
If you're going to say about ODIN or any geeky things to do, she won't allow it lol, she's sick of that, she just wants to upgrade it manually over the kies.
Probably her phone region is on a place that doesn't have the update yet.. aaand of course you cannot change that unless you use Odin.

And no, no OEM does that; but that doesn't mean they shouldn't! Over a month now, and still barely rolled out anywhere officially.
At this rate, it'll take them a year to roll out everywhere.

First of all, thanks guys for giving me time answering my stupid question lol, I've ran out of thanks and I promise I'll give you thanks back later!
So yeah why the fvck did samsht announced that they would be releasing the 4.4.2 update so early as last month if they can't even roll out as soon as possible? that's insane it's almost a month now and the update is not even rolling out here (btw I live in Manila, Ph)
I agree with @FloatingFatMan, they should have not told people what the REAL thing of the release schedule was :silly: talking about France and India, omfg lol we can now really foretell the future that it would probably take them for years to completely release the update world wide :silly: Google is preparing to release the 4.4.3 update and samsht is still smoking weeds to think about the update I wonder what will my friend think about this lol. I actually told her that rooting is the best thing that would happen on her device, encouraging her to flash CM11 on it but she's sick of these things haha, she's scared of bricking her phone lol but I told her that I'm the one that will gonna guide her doing those stuff, but it all ended up saying NO ahaha.

Well check the update OTA or via kies since you are in Manila.
Talking about 4.4.3 by Google I doubt it would bring anything major to phones except bug fixes that plagued the Nexus devices. The more bigger announcement would be at the Google I/O when we might hear about Android 4.5 or 5 ,who knows and this might be the very last update we would get from Samsung/Google judging by the 2 year policy of Google to support devices

Already tried that for a few times, still no response :| we've actually did some dumb shts on her phone like clearing the 'google services framework' (which is a workaround forcing OTA update to receive on Nexus phones) and we end up screwing her phone lol, still not working :silly:
Yeah I agree, it's almost a half a month now before Google I/O will start and I don't think that they will possibly release a bug fix update (4.4.3) on a short amount of time before they actually release a major update on IO.

Download the July OTA from Google and sideload it using ADB. Directions on how to do it are on the page I just linked to.
I know I can but why OTA doesn't come?
Ask Google. But really, does it matter why when you have the ability to fix the problem?
Because is strange that a brand new device stopped updating. But I know, a solution is a solution.
Not that strange. The rollout of OTAs if I recall is staged. It's possible you're one of the last to get it, or other issues such as network quality could affect it. The only people who would know for certain is Google. I couldn't tell you myself because I download the full OTA every month: I'm rooted and incremental OTAs cause issues.

u.k here
I just heard from Samsung Care the new "expected date" is March for the official update. WTF, I have a carrier unlocked (SM-G960U1) phone, but have to wait until every device in the world is updated, including the US minor carriers, before mine. This is the firmware all the US carriers are adding their bloat, too. It already exists. Can anyone explain this insanity?

Well, I just saw Moto G4 (yes the three generation old phone) has it's Pie released.
Well G9650 just got the Pie Stable. is there any way to flash that firmware on 960U1.

In the US, unlocked phones represent 12% of the market so I imagine the carriers get the most attention.

I agree, but we are still going to get the version they gave to the carriers a month ago. So they could have made that 12% happy. Instead they choose to make that 12% annoyed. But hey, we keep buying so it must not annoy us too much.

LOL, it seems that as far as cell phones go, people have very short memories. Honestly, I doubt that 75% or more of users even care what version of Android is installed on their phone. Hell, they probably don't even know.
Really frustrated with sam****

More like 90. Blissfully nonchalant. Otherwise selling phones with locked bootloder would have caused uprest and carrier preferences would have been swashed off by sung quickly
I THINK the idea is that unlocked phones must work on all carriers so the update for unlocked phones can't be done until all the carriers have released their update.
I got the update today. So far, so good. Nothing to write home about good or bad.
All 7 gotta do is plug it in to your computer and run SmartSwitch and it will update it to Pie
