My phone keeps giving me the message "An update is available". When I hook up my phone to my pc and start up Zune it doesn't prompt anything.
I go to Settings > Phone > Update and when I get to the updates page it just sits there forever, it doesn't seem to find an update...
I have an HTC Surround with the canadian provider Telus.
Thats not how to update it, open zune and press device, then press updates.
Also update Zune
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
The answer is that it isn't available to everyone yet. Only people that seem to have it are Europeans and/or unlocked phones.
I fixed it. It was my Zune Software that had to be updated first. My windows update had already downloaded the update for me but I had not installed it.

I am ROOTED running DC 3.5 Final. I have every app under downloads in the Market checked to automatically update, however, it never does I can go into the downloads section of the Market and it will show me that Updates are available. If I let the phone sit there for a second or 2 then the programs will start to update without me having to do anything. So is that how it is suppose to work or should my programs update without me having to go into Market.
Thanks
Automatic updates > from phone settings menu, not working? How does it looks on Your
Hello all
I recently saw in my phone settings menu option for "automatic checking of firmware update" and also "check for update"
And a question is - does it work on your defy?
I have 2.51 firmware - so i think latest one, but anyway when i click "check for update" new (black) screen appears, with text "checking for update, please wait".... And thats all. It stays on this screen forever, and nothing happens..
No feedback - for ex. that i have the latest one, or sth..
How exactly this works on your defy? I am warried because i think i may had removed some important apk from /system/app
I heard FOTA is responsible for updates? But i didnt delete that one....
so: how exactly this "check for update" works on your defy?
Yes mine did the same thing last week where it was just continuously searching. It is now ok and searches for a few seconds then says phone is up to date.
yesterday i searched for updates in phone menu and it said as it always did "checking for updates is unavailable. tray again later" so i decided to try motorola software updater and guess WHAT? it updated from 2.34 to 2.51.
i think the servers aren't online, or i don't know. but on 5 devices in my country says the same message when checking for updates.
Hi! My HTC Wildfire S became laggy so i decided to do a hard reset.
After doing that, i'm stuck with a few problems:
1) My Android version is 2.22.405.1. When i search for system
updates, it says, that my phone is up to date. I read, that
2.3.5 is officialy available, i'd like to have at least 2.3.3, but first
i'd just like to get notice, that update is available. I resetted the phone
few more times, but every time there are no updates.
2) I entered gmail account with market and it found updates for gmail and
market... but all downloads are paused?
Any help please?
TY
Oh yes.. and upper notification tab... it's gone! I can't pull
the bar down anymore.
Anyone?...
Download an official ruu and run it.

What is the difference between OTA update and Kies update??
Firmware Over The Air(FOTA or just OTA) allows you to update your firmware directly from your phone without needing a 3rd party software(like Kies or Odin). It finds only the files that need to be updated and sends those to your phone instead of reinstalling your entire firmware.Because of this OTA's are often small and don't reinstall bloatware you have removed or affect your root.Kies is Samsung's proprietary software used to connect the phone to your PC and perform tasks like update your FW and other stuff similar to iTunes with Apple. On the contrary, when you connect your wonder to Kies on your PC,it first determines if your FW is up-to date.If there's a newer FW available it will reinstall the entire FW.You're apps and data will be safe but all system apps will be installed back to stock. Some updates come via Kies only. Also updates usually take longer to 'roll out' OTA as they want to control the load on their servers. So you might not yet get an OTA notification on your phone despite other people with the same device having it.It just hasn't reached your turn. You can check for OTA's by going to Settings-->About Phone-->Software Update.

Click to collapse
You can reach the Software Update menu just dialing this secret code:
Code:
*#8736364#
If you go this way, you don't need active SIM Card nor Samsung Account as if you go through Settings-->About Phone-->Software Update
My phone was rooted but I restored everything back to stock. I then updated to Nougat with no problems, other than this one!
I check for system updates and it says I have these two:
HTC Sense Home
46.1MB v8.13.781902
HTC Mail
8.27MB v8.2.868761
I click the Install (2) button and they download.
I see then being downaloaded in the notifivation bar
Then it says Application updates (1/2)
Installing...
I click on that notification as nothing happens for a while and then it says:
Unable to complete the installation
An error occured whilst installing the software updates
You may check for software updates again in Settings, under about.
Its been like this for a few months!
This isn't my main phone, I just use this for a spare phone, my main phone is a Google Pixel 2 XL.
What does Google play say when updating via that?.
