Best rom for battery - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm searching for the best ROM for the battery lifetime. Right now I'm using an older version of Revolution because I hadn't had time to update. But before updating I wanted to ask if there is a better ROM for battery lifetime.
What I do with my DHD:
* E-Mail: Sync. 1 GoogleMail and 2 Exchange mailboxes (push), writing about 5-15 emails a day
* Calendar: Sync. with all of them, displaying with calWidget
* writing about 5-10 sms a day
* reading news with opera
* music with mixzing
* little gaming
Which Rom would you prefer for me?
Any help would be appreciated.

Revolution is good. Leedroid I find the battery life is slightly less.

CleanDHD with the recommended radio is awesome! You have to try it.

whats with CyanogenMod 7 RC2 with android 2.3.3?

Rooted stock ROM with Ultimate Juicedefender, SetCPU and Low brightness
* Optional: Disable HTC Sense account, on-demand browser plugins

[Q] Minimalistic/bare android rom for DHD

Hi,
i am a proud new owner of a DHD, which is also my first android device. As with Windows Mobile before, i don't like the HTC Sense at all. I am also very disappointed with all the bloatware (aka trash) like Amazon MP3, Facebook, SoundHound, ... on this high class 450 Euro device. This all leads me to the following question:
Which ROM out there has as less modifications as possible or is the closest to a vanilla Android from Google?
So no
- Sense/other UI modifications
- HTC "dialer"
- (Animated) Themes
- Twitter, Facebook, Amazon
- Example Videos, pictures, MP3
A bit of e.g. battery tweaking would also be welcomed
Many thanks for your (hopefully numerous) suggestions.
Cyanogenmod 6(froyo) or 7(gingerbread)

Flussen is correct either CM6 for Froyo or CM7 for Gingerbread. Both are great ROMs.
Personally i would recommend flashing ARHD, with no-sense and rom cleaner.
It gets rid of nearly all the Sense stuff except that which is useful, specifically the rext selection mechanic, copy and paste implementation and the app switching from the notification bar.
Those 3 functions are the sole reason im sticking with a "sense" rom.
You will end up with a pretty vanilla experience if you go with that option, save for the above 3 points.
I'd say the latest CM7 nightly and mad murdocks battery fix patch. Happy flashing
Try LeeDroid 2.2.2 with nosense-patch.

i agree, currently on Spike CM7 build 22
this is what you want
Thanks for all your support. With the help of our replies i decided to try CM7 and flashed CleanDHD v1.00 - CM7n23. Everything works flawlessly and i am much more happy as with the Stock ROM + Sense. The only thing i don't like about it is the "190dpi for the true HD look" feature, as i find the fonts unnecessarily tiny (e.g. Command buttons with 95% free space in them and only the tiny "Next" Text in the middle).
As it seems to be impossible to change the font size/DPI on the system, is there any ROM similar to CleanDHD, but with the standard fonts?
Edit:
I found out that you can set the DPI to any value in the file /system/build.prop inside the .zip of the ROM before flashing. I hereby withdraw my abovementioned newbie question.

[Q] CoreDroid HD 5.3 battery life

Gday,
Just wondering If I could get some round about figures from you guys that are using combinations with latest 5.x Coredroid Roms and radios on what your general battery life has been like.
I ask for round about figures e.g. percentage of battery decrease per 30 mins on dependence of phone usage because I realize how much battery life can be affected by many different variables.
My setup is:
ROM - CoreDroid HD 5.3 (full wiped and non-titanium app install)
Radio - Radio_12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 (Given 2 days to take effect and so far best 1 I've used)
Auto Brightness
Have gone back and forth between live wallpaper and wallpaper but didnt notice much change
Screen animations all on
I'm now in the process of the battery calibration found on Hemorrdroids.net. I was getting about 5-10% battery drop per 30 mins with mobile network on, auto sync on and moderate usage (mainly browsing xda and web + facebook and emails).
So I thought I'd give the battery calibration ago just to see if I can limit the drain a little bit more.
So any other figures provided would just help me to work out if Im on par and Im definitely getting the most out of my battery
With my desire hd with the 12.48 radio and cm7 it takes much less than with core droid 5.x i dont know how much less but a lot........

Yeah I've heard that about CM, I guess you can put that down down to the drain that htc sense causes.
I would switch to a non-sense rom such as cm7, But I still prefer some features of sense.
I guess I have to make a bit of a sacrifice to get those features

Yeah I did and I found I was getting fairly similar battery life with coredroid, So i decided to stick with coredroid because I prefer the visuals and the performance seemed very similar for me as well
Oh ;-)
Then try an alternative launcher on cm7 like spb mobile Shell ;-)

Try these!
First, You need to turn of auto sync, just back up or sync by manual.
Second, Remove account of HTC facebook. It's always sync therefore it drain battery fast.

Turned off auto sync a couple of hours ago after my battery calibration because I knew it was a contributing factor haha cant believe I had it on.
Am yet to remove my facebook account because I dont no if I can do without that synced haha .
It probably would be wise to only update manually
I use extended controls (might also be possible with widgetsoid) to quickly switch to GSM only when I'm not using my phone out in the wild. That and turning data off when you don't need it (easily done from notification settings screen) will save a hell of a lot of battery over using 3G/auto with data on.
extended controls is a brilliant tool!
It often helps me, too
i think the same.. extended controls are cool for control a good batery drain... and in addition i have WIDGET ON/OF by pedro maicas (android market) for cut the 3g conection
for the flip and clock for example...

[Q] High battery drain (CM7)? (Current widget log attached)

Hi,
I flashed CM7 (nightly 213) as I'm looking to try AOSP instead of sense for a bit. I'd heard great things about the performance and battery. Today however, I didn't use my DHD too much - a couple of short calls and some texts, the screen was on for 1hr15mins.
Before today I restored some apps with Titanium backup after flashing and used LordModUE's kernel (2way call recording, BFS), wouldn't have thought that should cause high drain though?
Display only used 8%, in sense it regularly used around 60%. I doubt it's using any less power, just other things are using more! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you were simply looking to try out an AOSP ROM then you probably shouldn't have flashed a nightly build of CM7. That could be the cause of your problem, since from what I know, nightly builds are intended for the more experienced users.
I suggest trying out a more stable build, either from the CyanogenMod site or a custom one from here!
I flashed a nightly thinking it would be the most up to date, bugs gone, etc. After reading a bit more I've realised that's not the case! I've just backed up and will try CM7.1 RC1 with the stock kernel.
If battery life is good I'll try LordMod's kernel and add up slowly; I put too many things on at once so it could have been anything really!
I'll come back in 24 hours and see what's improved
My experience with the rc1 is bad and nightlies builds currently seem better.

I use CM7 RC1 and I have to say that my experience with this ROM is more then satisfying. Battery lasts something around 20 to 48 hours (on weeekends when I don't receive so much mails, 20 hours is something I get on normal working day when I receive around 50 mails during the day) and I have 5 mail accounts online all the time, everything set to push and Facebook, LinkedIn, googletalk and so on. But, I do not use any application to retreive my aplications from backup. I just install them manually one by one. And don't forget about calibrating battery after you install new ROM, it helped me a lot. Also, it is possible that you have some aplication which is draining battery and you are not aware of it.

I assume that you didn't restore system data via Titanium, yeah? Coz that would be bad.

[Q] sense contact management

Hi guys, i'm searching a rom for my htc desire z.
I tried a lot of different solutions: original (bad battery life), cm7 ,miui and now virtuos ..
Considering i'm completely addicted to sense contact management but i can't stand with battery life management of virtuos rom, do u think it exist any rom which can allow me to manage contact and their social profile as sense does?!
Battery life is a function of a ton of different variables. But one of the most important is the radio, how well it plays with the ROM, and the reception in your area. You might try different radios, and/or RIL match them to the ROM.
Best battery life I have seen on a Sense ROM is Unity. I went from a 24 to 36 hrs on the stock ROM before needing to charge, up to easily going 48 hrs or more on Unity. This is with pretty light usage. Its a Sense 3 ROM, and all of them are laggy as our hardware is simply not designed for Sense 3. But many people still love Sense 3 ROMs, and there are ways to tweak them to make them smoother.
There is an app, free on market, called Contacts by Contapps. Pick any lightweight ROM (Virtuous G-Lite, any AOSP ROM, etc..) and use Contacts to manage your contacts like you would on Sense. Able to sync and use your FB Contact information as well as use their display pictures. Works very nicely IMO. Not 100% exact, but performs necessary functions.
I use the stock ROM, pre-rooted with the Unity V10 kernel. This is tweaked to be undervolted (but slightly overclocked to 1Ghz) among other things to be quite efficient with power. I usually get 24 hours with medium / heavy use up to 36-48 hours with light use.
Standard other things are:
Be strict with Accounts and Sync, make sure things only sync when they need to.
Background apps, be aware of apps that sit in the background consuming power. Check in About - Battery.
I've recently caught "Privacy - Backup" to be consuming a lot of power on my phone.
Use WIFI when you can, its more efficient than HSPA
Disconnect WIFI when not in range, it will constantly scan for networks.
See how you go..
Craig
Thx guys for your reply ,i'm going to try those roms and apps... I'll answer you after a crash test

[Q] Affinity or Revolution HD?

I am comming from a ICS rom as it is not that stable and i am looking into sense 3.5 roms. Im wondering which is better because i hear that the revolution misses texts but the affinity also has terrible battery life. Also is the virtuous tweaks in affinity make it better? Thanks

Stability I would go for affinity but my dd is now revolution =] coz revolution is almost lag free in homescreen scrolling thx to full gpu rendering..and idk y revolution have only left 56mb system space..while affinity is 114mb... (not be confuse by internal space, this is what I saw in 4ext recovery)

would the smooth sense mod for revolution work on affinity?
Im on revolution as a dd and never once have i lost a sms on any rom.

Affinity!
I've used both, and they are both awesome!
If I had to choose, it would be the one I find myself using more, which is Virtuous Affinity. To get it to perform how I want it to, however, I have the following settings:
-Swap (256 I believe?)
-Ultrasmooth Rosie (in the virtuous tweeks)
-3d widgets flattened (i believe also in virtuous tweeks?)
only 3 homescreen panels
-Supercharger 5 (multi-tasking), 6 (balanced), or 7 (aggressive). The powershifting/widgets make it easy to switch.
-Supercharger's Engine Flush & also Cachemate running every 6 hours
-SetCPU as either ondemand, interactive, or savagedzen at 1459.
Not going to lie, my battery life isn't awesome, but it last as long as I need it to, but it's the best experience with Sense I've had thus far.
how long is your battery life on moderate use?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium App
Not 100% sure at the moment, as I usually charge at certain times during the day, but I'll let it run down and let you know later on
^ almost same kind of settings, but 1.2 ghz on demand.
Based on same use, everyday.
With affinity :
- Morning 100% : going school with the subway ( exactly 30 min + 10 min walking )
30 minutes of video, and 10 minutes of music.
- School : boring classes of 3h ( I use my phone about 1h x2 courses).
- lunch time : use my phone about 15 minutes while talking to my friends.
- Go back home ( 30 minutes vid + 10 minutes music).
-email while watching tv (1h30)
Day starts for the desire z at 7am ends at 9 pm
25-30% most of the time left. For 4h30 +/- (with talk time+sms) of heavy use (game/vid/surfing), not bad.
With Revolution HD, add easily 10% on the battery.
Based on:
- 1 month with affinity
- almost 3 weeks with revolution
During my internship, no playing, no surfing, no nothing , only calls and sms = about 3 days with unity. Galelio 2000 battery.
I like the revolution myself. I never had one time where Rosie had to repaid into memory from being killed by low ram situation. Just my opinion.
