*Sigh*....starting to lose faith... - Windows Phone 7 General

So here's a typical day with WP7.
Wake up, unplug phone from PC. I had left it to sync overnight, because for some reason Zune wasn't syncing a particular photos subfolder (1), so I removed the whole lot and resynced over 6,000 photos while I slept. Found the phone was only half-charged (2). Plugged it into the mains while I got ready for work.
Saw there was an update for Board Express Pro, downloaded it but it failed, as I'm using the trial (3).
As I left for work, I went to hit PLAY on my music, expecting to carry on listening to the music I had last night, but in the dropdown music controls, it displayed just a blank. So I had to reselect the album (4).
On the train, sat at the station waiting to leave, I went to access Game Chest: Logic Games to make my next chess move in the ongoing game against my wife. The phone spent ages starting up the game, then informed me, despite having a 3G connection, that it couldn't connect to the game (5). Tried two or three more times (6). No dice. Decided to try Alphajax, but on starting that up, it complained it couldn't obtain push notifications (7). It asked me to restart my phone, which I did (8). The restart got stuck at the "Windows Phone" splash screen for about two minutes - it normally takes a couple of seconds, so that was a worry (9). Eventually I got my home screen, so I went back into Alphajax and got the same message again (10). So no push updates any more for that game. Went back to my home screen and noticed that I'm also not getting tile updates for either Flixster (11) or Flickr (12). Decided to play a bit of Sudoku (Game Chest: Logic Games). I always use a bluetooth headset, and partway through the game something happened and the sounds stopped coming through (13). I had to go into SETTINGS and disconnect my headset, then reconnect to get it working again (14).
I went into Marketplace to look for an app to keep my ten-pin bowling scores in. I found a couple, but they both keep the scores on the phone with no way to sync to my PC or to the cloud, hence they're useless because if my phone breaks, gets stolen or hard resets itself, I stand to lose the entire bowling score history that I'd have inputted to the app (15). So I knocked up a spreadsheet and emailed it to my phone (no easy way to get it onto the phone (16)). When I opened the sheet on the phone, I found just about all the formatting had vanished and several of the centered headings were invisible (17). So I made up my mind to keep my scores in a notebook while bowling and enter them into a spreadsheet on my PC when I get home. So much for smartphones (18).
Now I'm at work, writing this, and have experienced 18 annoyances with my phone in the space of just four hours.
I am seriously starting to get sick of it.
I think I'm on the cusp of going to try out Android! Save me!

The fact is.. we are early adopters. Yes.
And we all know that we would have a problematic phone in our hands when we bought WP7. Then why did I buy this?
Because I was faithful that Microsoft was not going to blow it up. I thought MS was going to update, fix bugs, and try their best, since they have the nicest phone right now.
It's not the bugs that annoy me. It is the fact that the January update turns out to be an April update (yeah, we are 22 March and nothing until now).
And it doens't fix a quarter the problems that we can found in the list of bugs thread.
I share your pain and frustration.
Yesterday I caught myself looking at Nexus S. I'm worried ;/
Still.. since I've balls, I'll stand and wait some more for MS do something useful in this life (oh, yeah, they do sometimes.. Xbox, Win7..)
Don't abandon us!

I don't believe the phone charges while it is in the process of syncing over USB, only when it is in standby, it has been discussed a few times. If you just synced, obviously it accessed your music, so how can you expect it to have not prevented you from accessing it, it does that as a precautionary measure. The trial issue has been discussed a variety of times as well, It's been fixed in NoDo. The games and push notifications could be device specific, as you're the 3rd person I've seen mention this. I use my SkyDrive to move files, or email, I don't see how that isn't "easy." As far as the formatting, good luck finding perfect formatting on Android...

You see, there's no one thing with WP7 that in itself is enough to make me abandon it. It's just the daily grind of all those annoyances that continually grate on me. I'm always sat next to someone playing with their iPhone or Android or Blackberry and some of the time as I'm whizzing through WP7s tiles or playing with some jazzy app I can see them glance over at my phone....and then I'll almost inevitably come to an app that won't open and I'll have to reboot my phone to get it working and I can imagine them chuckling to themselves as I eat humble pie.
It. is. annoying. The potential is there but there are so many let-downs.

There is absolutely no need for this thread to turn into a flamewar.........
If you can offer a potential solution or any relevant information to the points raised by the OP then please dont be shy in putting them forward...
Anything else, dont bother.
That is all.

Dude I was just teasing ya! Anyway I think you've missed the point of the thread. I'm not looking for individual fixes / excuses / workarounds etc etc to each of the individual points. My point is, that was a TYPICAL day spent with WP7, and that all these little things contribute to an overall feeling of malaise with the OS. I've tried to put across that I am a stalwart of WP7 - I have had many many WM5 / 6 / 6.1 / 6.5 phones over the years and went straight to WP7 and yes there is much to like, which is why I'm still clinging to it.
I really just want to guage the mood among other WP7 users - are they experiencing similar malaise to me or not? Is it just me?

That statement wasnt specifically directed at you. You'll notice that posts from multiple users have been deleted in an attempt to bring this thread back on topic.
Let me make this very clear to all concerened.
I expect the next post to be directly related to the isues raised by the OP.
Not discussing the drama this thread has already caused in its short lifespan.
NO MORE OFF TOPIC CHATTER PLEASE!

typical ?
is this a typical day of your phone usage ? I've seen the bug thread, but there aren't a whole lot of folks posting similar accounts of annoyances... there are threads, but not so many all at once, such a short span of time.
I wonder how long since your last reset, and if you reboot it daily, weekly, or just when it becomes unusable ?
id imagine it this is a typical experience that m$ is working pretty hard on it... with the update getting pushed back regularly.

I did a hard reset a couple of weeks back to cure the push notification issue, but it has returned. I reboot my phone whenever an app asks me to or an app stops working or anything else goes wrong that a reboot might cure. On average, probably about once or twice per day.

The delays in getting the bug fixes are all part of the overall feeling of "meh" I'm getting about WP7.
Obviously you're still very much in love with WP7, which is fine - I wish I was, too, but despite me evangelizing it to all my mates, deep down I don't feel anything like as good about it as I did in October last year.
Actually, I just remembered another thing that went wrong this morning - when I came out of the (constantly crashing) Comica app, the screen graphics went all ape**** and I had to reboot. Again.

To be honest, with this many issues I would be inclined to think that it's a device specific problem.
Do you have any kind of warranty you could claim on?
Sent from my fingers to your face...

I understand a lot of the little frustrations, especially with the update delays, but one thing that did stand out for me is the comment about stability... having to restart your phone to get basic functionality (app launching) going again. I very seldom (less than once a month) have needed to reboot my Focus to get some service or app going again. Some apps do have stability issues for me, but a reboot of the phone doesn't appear to be needed... I can simply relaunch the app in question after it returns to the start menu (sometimes I've had an issue where the app needs a couple of launches to sort itself out).
Are you using a WP7 device with a replaced microSD card, or a Samsung Focus with an added microSD card? The stability issues sound like something that I'd expect to see with a non-compliant microSD card, or some hardware issue with the device. I'm running a Samsung Focus with an added 16 GB card (Ridata, class 6 for the curious), and 20+ GB of space has been used on the phone since Dec., and my device sounds like it is far more stable than yours at the moment.

Well yeah there's a warranty but most of the issues are either with apps or are known software issues.

I usually try restarting the app at least three times before I reboot. Rebooting always fixes it.

No it's an HD7 with the stock O2 ROM and stock 16GB card as supplied. I have done nothing to it.

TBH, I think this is the main problem. HTC isn't exactly known for providing great SD cards with their devices.
I encountered similar issues on my HD7 but haven't seen them on either of the Omnia7's or Optimus7 currently available to me.

But if it was a problem with the storage card, why would rebooting fix it?
If any data on the card was corrupted, it would still be corrupted after the reboot. If it was a transient read error, then retrying would usually work, but it never does.

I don't know for sure, but I reckon the OS gets bogged down over time. Either due to temporary files or running processes. I didn't investigate much myself as I returned the handset after about a week, but others with certain HTC devices (as well as some DVP owners) have said the problems go away by changing the SD card.
It may also be that it's fixed in NoDo as they have reworked the way memory is accessed. I did however see similar issues in the 7008 build on my Omnia7 - which made me revert to the standard 7004.

Hehe, WP7 is piling it on today. Just tried to download an app.

I think we dell venue pro owners are the experts on sd cards and WP7 The known problem with the DVP crashing when using wifi or returning from standby with a black screen is fixed for a lot of people who swapped their sd cards, though not all. For reasons we cant pinpoint WP7 is spectacularly picky about which cards it works with. I myself have tried 2 new cards and have not managed to solve the crashing problem on my DVP.
Quite possibly you are experiencing the same intolerance to certain sd cards on your HD7 as has affected the DVP and possibly a device swap could fix it. I certainly have not experienced the level of individual application failures you have, and that is with a known crash happy device.

I think I will wait for Nodo and see what happens after. There are some bugfixes in Nodo so you never know. Nodo must surely be coming in the next few days.....right?

Phone won't wake up from standby?

Hi All
Not sure if this is potentially a general problem or specific to my build of WM6..
I'm running Dutty's v2 of WM6 - all seems stable on the whole....
Except that if the battery power is at, or below 50% remaining.. when the phone shuts itself into standby & is left for an hour.... No matter what i press.. power button, tapping the screen etc... the phone refuses to wake up....! - (When the battery IS fuller... it DOES spring to life when you tap the power button on the side.)
The green signal light DOES remain flashing all the time though...
Even calling the phone doesn't kick it up the ass.... I just hear the ringing in the earpiece of my land line.. & the tytn remains silent!!
The only way to sort it out is to remove the battery & reboot - pretty crap!?
So is this a BUG? - & if so, something specific to Dutty's build on WM6, OR is this something more generic that other people with different OS's like 'Black' 2.5 or 3.01 are ALSO experiencing???
Your kind answers welcome.
Cheers,
Al
WOW, do a search. This is almost as bad as asking if WM6 is available for Hermes.
Thanks for your POINTLESS ANSWER!
I did a search, & all that is found is page after page of dross, with people saying "it might be this, it might be that... is it the radio version..? is it your storage card, is it too many apps in the background!? BLA BLA BLA
To save time... for all you no-patience types....
WM6 Dutty v2
My radio version: 1.40
storage card 2GB Sandisc... 250MB left, with Tom Tom 6 & European maps... only activated when manually run.
Any background programs like weatherpanel? - NONE
DO you know the Answer or not - YES or NO!?
Don't waste my life with cocky responces. - If there is a definitive SOLUTION, state it, instead of your pompous snobbery!
"Your kind answers welcome." - What's the point of even being polite to you people?

wpbear - Reading the thread that i found does not offer up a definative solution.....

Thankyou
There are other threads on this matter, but no solution has been found yet.
All the WM6 roms I've tried have had this problem.
For me it happens 2/3 times a day if I set IMAP mail to check periodically.
I had this problem with every WM6 rom too. I solved it by disabling the auto download/sync with my IMAP email accounts. I set it to 'manual' to check for email, which is a pain, but my 8525 wakes up every time now. I used to have this problem several times per day regardless if I was going through different singal networks (as people said it was that problem)...also people said it was my memory card, it was not as it happened regardless if that was installed or not.
Once I stopped autodownloading and syncing of my IMAP email, all was fine. i hope this works for you.
This seems like a fairly major bug!
Activesync works fine. Shame you can't sync two exchange accounts over the air! It would be interesting to set up an IMAP server and look at the logs to see where it is getting stuck.
I found also that the mSD card made no difference.
Hmmm
Interesting, i DO have my Pop3 account to auto send/recieve every 10 mins.. I've just disabled it... & shall see what it does...
So this is looking like a WM6 generic bug.... I wonder if Black's 3.01 which is based upon a slightly newer core build from M$ has addressed this.... But i'll wait a while from updating my rom... as it seems pretty stable in all other areas.
Al
P.S . Thanks for the polite & informative replies!!!
It has the same problem and so does the latest LVSW.
It's a bit of a bummer actually! Not sure what to do about it!
Very common problem - no answer
This is the same problem that MANY of us have. I've read its possibly due to the Sandisk microcards (a Kingston is supposably more reliable,) but most people are reporting its due to email checking while the device is in Standby. It has NOT been corrected with the Latest ROMs or OS's. Good luck - if you find an answer let us all know!

Damn, where did I put that silver platter....
I think that mSD cards can cause the problem, but I've had it happen many times without a card in the slot.
My gut feeling is that something goes wrong while checking the IMAP mail. Remember that the machine is woken by a notification and is in a state where it is on, but the screen and sound are off. I have noted that activesync is much quicker at checking than IMAP. Perhaps it takes too long sometimes and thus becomes stuck.
By any chance are you locking the phone with 'Device Lock'?
My phone (on any version of WM) would lock up at least once per day.
I found that if I stopped locking the phone using device lock and just switched the phone into standby with the power button, it hasn't locked up since.

On my phone I have 100% connected this issue to leaving the WIFI on and letting the phone time out into standbye. While I do have the Taiwan 2GB Sandisc mSD card - the problem happens regardless of if the card is in the phone or not. The problem only ever occurs on my phone if I have the WIFI on and let it timeout. If the WIFI is disabled, it NEVER has this issue and if I manually put the phone into standbye (tapping off button) it almost never has this issue. With WIFI left on, I can expect my phone to freeze on average once or twice a day!
Now there may be many issues that cause this with differnt phones but this is what happens on my phone.

I don't have the problem anymore, but when I did have it using different ROMs it was always when it timed out with WIFI on. Having read all the threads on the subject I to think there are several things which are causing it for different users.

I saw the same problem on my old Prophet. The solution for that phone and it's AKU2.0 ROM was to set backlight and standby timeouts to the same value.
I've had this with:
WiFi off;
Email off;
Device lock off;
Power at 90%+.
And all of the above at the same time, hehe.
With computers, it can be something that appears completely unrelated, that causes the problem.
As an example, I once built a new machine (I've been a custom system builder for more years than I care to remember), that kept coming up with hard drive errors, massive hard drive failures, loss of partitions, you name it. Even with known good hard drives.
I changed the IDE controller. I changed the motherboard. I changed the memory. I changed the CD drive. I changed the powersupply. With all known good components.
Same errors.
I gave up, and went to bed to sleep on it (usually a very good idea when a problem is wearing you down).
In the morning, I realised that the only thing that I hadn't changed at least once, was the graphics card.
Yep, it was the graphics card that was persistently producing hard drive errors, hehe.
My guess is there's some sort of driver incompatibility (some companies have a very bad track record regarding their competence at supplying decent, compatible drivers), or clash with a couple of otherwise unrelated apps. Something like that.
My gut feeling hollers ATi driver (I think I have had more headaches caused by ATi drivers the last approx 20 years, than everything else put together).
Could well be wrong, but might give someone an area to start looking.

My Hermes has the same problem and only when the screen/buttons are locked. I will try to set the timeouts as you suggested and see what happens. It was not a problem in Black 2.0.
Hi
Regarding Wifi... I usuall have it off, unless i'm using it.... so it can't be that.
I disabled my mail account auto connection last night... & left the phone....
Now it WAS plugged into the charger, but upon clicking on the phone power button this morning, it DID come out of Standby!!!
However... as i noticed already, when the battery is full or over 50% it did seem to want to come out of standby.... only when the battery starts to run low, did it refuse to wake up...
I'll let the power run down today.. & let standby activate..... now that the email auto connect is disabled, if it DOES still fail when the battery is getting low... then we know it is something to do with the power...
If it DOES come on, with low power, then it will point towards the email problem...
"set backlight and standby timeouts to the same value." = Well this is an interesting little quirk..... I'll give it a try too. - Cheers
I'll let you know.

Tmo TP 2 is slowing d..o..w..n...

Over the last week or so my tp2 has been slowing down. Operations that had been snappy when I first bought it are becoming lethargic. I had installed 3 new programs in that time, and have since uninstalled all of them(trying to resolve this). But the problem is still there.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you shut it down or done a soft restart in that time?
Hi Yodajm,
Yeah, I have. Several....
Unfortunately I can't offer much more advice on the TP2 since AT&T hasn't got off their butts to release it yet.
Thanks anyway.
How is the weather in LA? Would love to be on the west coast!
Later
Have you cleared the cache and ram in that time?
Way too hot right now haha. Plus smokey cause of the fires.
I hate the summer heat, but otherwise the the weather is great!
Slowing down? My is fast like lightning, maybe cuz im using non stock rom
Even though you uninstalled the programs, whatever changes they made may still be in effect. You might have to consider a hard reset, and then test by adding each program one at a time and checking if you notice any slowdown. If you don't, then you know that program is not the culprit. If you do, then you've found your cause. Good luck!
Hey Yodajm.. yeah those fires sound fierce! Hope you and your family are well clear of them!
Thanks for the replies.
I thought I should reference this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555504
I then posted this there:
Come to think of it.... I may be having the same problem.
About a week ago I installed 3 new pieces of software. After a few days I noticed that my phone has been feeling laggy. So 1 by1 I unistalled the software... still the problem persists.
Reading your post made me think... hmm about a week ago I also installed a 4 gb memory card! The card works fine, I can access it, and store stuff on it.
Also, come to think of it. I was making panoramic photos last night and my phone kept freezing after the 2nd photos. And would crash- resetting itself. I had the phone set to save images to the card. Setting it to save them to the phone it stopped crashing... maybe my memory card is too slow. Perhaps, there is a setting in the phone which affects the through put from the phone to the card that can be tweaked. I seam to remember see settings for power saving features for the micro sd card.. Could this be the culprit?
So what does everyone think? I am taking out the card and soft resetting the phone to see what happens.
As for changes made to the system, one of the programs was the Advanced Configuration Tool. So yes, some changes were made. But I thought I returned everything to what I had. I only made a couple of tweaks with it...

WP7 Bugginess?

Been playing with my HD7 (TMo USA) for two days now. Main problem's been that it's highly buggy.
I left it overnight to charge, and when I turned it on in the morning, everything was disconnected (no updates from Internet) as the Wifi connection was off. Went to the settings app, and only the first three options (ringtones & sounds, theme, and airplane mode) were even present. The entire rest of the menu panel was not even visible for some reason, so I couldn't enable Wifi.
I then restarted-- it connected to Wifi, slowly loaded one webpage, then when I returned five minutes later, it was in a weird state. Wifi could not be turned on (attempting to turn it on in settings had no effect). Opening IE would load a grayed-out version of the tab selector then crash back to the home screen with any click. Pretty much all apps would load an initial page but then crash whenever any input was submitted (e.g. email address/password for setting up accounts).
Pretty poor so far-- the UI is smooth and hasn't locked up per se (as Windows Mobile always inevitably does), but the inconsistency and random crashes make this feel like alpha software.
Actually it kind of feels like what'd result if you were to put a GPU-accelerated GUI on top of WM 6.x and then forced it to either act in a few seconds or abandon the task. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't, and the GUI just glosses over as if nothing's wrong.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Hmm...the OS has crashed (causing a reboot) three times today so far-- once when downloading email (in inbox screen), once when loading a particular message, and again when trying to open the Marketplace (froze with one highlighted app, Need for Speed, shown, then 10-15 seconds later, phone restarted).
Wifi's also only intermittently connecting with a strong signal in the area (toggling it on/off doesn't seem to fix it).
There is the possible chance of just having a faulty device, (or simply a faulty MicroSD card which is used for memory. Have you tried a Hard Reset on the device and seeing if the problems resurface? Most people who have used WP7 for the most part so far have not mentioned issues like yours on the vast scale you have.
I've had mine for a couple days now also and it has been perfection as far as operation goes. I did have a bug in IE when I tried to respond to an XDS PM. I tried to delete the accumulated text and it funked up. Couldn't back out to a previous window so had to reboot WP7 to be able to use IE. I was able to tap the windows button and go to the main screen, but I couldn't use IE till after the reboot
had my samsung since launch the 8th
I have not had any problems what so ever!! and i have installed a 32gb class 2 card in connection with the 8gb internal and it runs great no problems to this time never had to reboot or lock ups nothing... most likly you have a bad sd card...
yea i can also report the same, mine is smooth as. what i have been doing of late is leaving my pc on at night, and my phone connected to wifi (charging as well), and it would sync with my pc throughout the night. get up the morning and videos are ready to go for me to take on the train. haven't experienced any difficulties at all yet.
i would report the issue to your carrier and get a replacement handset, or hard reset first to see if it's not just some dodgy build on your phone.
Ive been using my device for 3 days. I've only encountered 1 or two odd problems
1. when i was connected to the uni's wifi and visited weather.com it kinda borked out (i think it had to do with my uni re-directing to a login page to verify identity)
(or it could have been weather.com loading some scripts (didnt see it as a mobile device)
2. i develop for wp7 and sometimes after i deploy an application to my phone, the back button wont work. (sometimes meaning it happened once )
No crashes or anything of that nature though..
Can anyone agree that the shutter speed on the camera is really slow? I am assuming its a windows software issue as the cameras in almost all wp7 devices are the same.
It really sounds like a faulty hardware. 3 crashes in a day? Wow, even my Fuze never did that with XDA builds. From the reviews and experiences from other users here. I'd say you are either alone or one of very few in that experience.
I handled a Focus for few mites yesterday side by side with iPhone 4 and Captivate. Android felt like beta, iphone4 as final RC build and WP7 as RTM in terms of usability. I like and still use my iPhone 2G so nothing against iPhone really.

yea, the auto focus and shutter do take their time. it should be really snappy. it should auto focus and take phone pretty much instantly... sadly it isn't the case. hopefully it picks up, though i don't seem them doing this till like WP8.
The main thing is, MS will be doing the updating and that means quality updates for each and every handset out there. But the latest news has me a bit concerned, Balmer selling off so much stock in MS. So far he has sold 49 million shares of MS and is said to sell a total of 74 million eventually. I'm wondering if it's related to WP7 and if there is something we all should be concerned about.

Very interesting indeed. That's a lot of cheese. You got me wondering too.
he has a few hundred million shares if not billions in MS... i believe what he's selling is a mere few percent if that of his shares. Bill Gates sells off that many regularly to support his charities... i wouldn't take much note of it.
Tried hard-resetting, to no effect. It's bad enough that at this point I hope it's an isolated hardware problem, as I wonder what my not so tech-savvy friends/family would do if they bought a WP7 phone and encountered this.
It's been crashing out of apps, freezing at the shutdown "Goodbye" screen, showing UI issues in IE, giving DRM errors in Netflix (and restarting every time Netflix is closed), sometimes not turning the screen off (pressing power key would just lock the phone), etc.
Hopefully T-Mobile can swap this out tomorrow.
(oh and this is attempt 2 at writing this post-- tried it on the HD7 the first time, and after I pressed Submit Reply, the phone dropped Wifi, IE went to an Action Cancelled page, and then the OS crashed)

There is also a change in capital gains tax, he maybe wanted to take advantage or needed some liquid cash. I doubt very much it is anything else!

That definitely sounds like a rogue habdset, I have the HD& and have had hardly any issues.
I really don't think MS is betting the farm on WP7, sure it's important to their lineup, but it's never going to be the money maker like the iPhone is for Apple.
MS makes it's break and butter off OS's(Server and Desktop), Office Suite and XBOX Live.
Everything else is just a plus.
Just to follow up, went and swapped out the phone, and now it's all fine. Guess HTC/T-Mo's quality control needs some work.
When I described all my issues to the people at the T-Mobile store, their response was "it's a Windows phone-- all Windows phones freeze and do things like that" . Finally was able to get them to swap it out though.
Incidentally they had a bunch of HD7s sitting around-- apparently I'm the only one who's actually bought one from the store (and this is in New York) .
i have been using WP7 since it came out in UK, untill yesterday there has been no siginificant issues, couple to times accelrometer didn't work properly but yesterday
marketplace app wouldn't launch
couldn't buy apps on marketplace, can get free apps
twitter app errored out
scrolling in marketplace app got stuck for few mins
had to reboot it twice, back or windows button wouldn't work.

I kind of disagree...from what I've read they are betting on this as they know the future is mobile to a large extent. I believe they will force WP7 to be a success, similar to what they did with Xbox...

And I'm hoping you are 200% correct. Because it means our mobile platform of choice will only get better; will only improve. That means MS will listen to the market (general public, not customizers) and give it what it wants.
Speaking of wants, what the forecast for Angry Birds on WP7?

Now that NoDo is on my phone...

Now that NoDo is on my phone (thanks everyone!) I now get a chance to use it with my Focus. The first few moments wasn't too promising. The tiles were very unresponsive and the phone ended up rebooting on me. I've never had that happen before. Since then it hasn't done that, but the phone has been slow responding at times. I do need to reboot my phone as often as I did before though. That's probably a Samsung thing.
I haven't seen any real speed increase as a lot of people had been reporting. I guess the Focus was fast enough for me previously that it's just business as usual.
Periodically music still doesn't play out of the speaker after I pull out the headphone while the music is still playing. That was happening before the update and all I need to do is reboot the phone to get the speaker working again.
Unbelieveably, the cut and paste feature gets in the way when writing messages and I need to go back to a certain point. The entire word highlights when I just want the cursor there to start typing. Oh well, better to have it than not.
Bluetooth is a little louder with my headset now, which I'm happy about.
Overall, I'm happy I got the patch since AT&T doesn't seem to want to roll it out, but I'm just not experiencing much more than I got before. Maybe the Marketplace is better, but again, I never really had problems before.
Resuming apps is about twice as fast, now... The first thing I did was start Messenger by Miyowa and "Home" out and then resume it, since it's normally rather slow to resume. The speed increase there is noticeable.
Music pauses when you put a headphone in, or pull it out. That's normal. It's to stop you from missing part of the music, or to stop the music from blasting at full volume if the headset gets mistakenly unplugged...
You didn't really give much information, but if you've been rebooting your phone because of that...
L.O.L.
The highlighting word is an issue that's always existed. It makes it almost impossible to perform quick edits quickly because in most cases it's faster to just type the entire work over again than just add in the letter you need to correct a misspelling.
Marketplace was always a problem app since the platform launched. Before I got hte update earlier, I had to reboot my phone twice because Market did it's free-crash-crash thing. Now that you mentioned it, I need to go download some stuff to see if it freezes/crashes or still have the issue where you have to constantly pause and resume downloads for them to complete...
Marketplace never crashed while downloading anything here, it freezes when browsing apps sometimes. I don't have NoDo installed and probably won't until a solid unlock mechanism is found and published. Just wonder if my Marketplace problem is different from yours.

This actually is not an issue.
Tap and hold on the word and you'll have a nice cursor displayed which you can place anywhere.
True, Marketplace crashes ONLY while browsing.
Whatever installing or upgrades I perform, it works always.

Ah, yes, I guess it is faster resuming apps. I didn't notice it. Thanks for bringing it up.
The music pausing is fine and I understand that, but there are times when the speaker doesn't play music after unplugging the headphones. That's when I reboot.
I've also had to reboot the phone because it would default back to the screen that we all saw when we first purchased our phones. After rebooting it goes back to seeing my settings. Also there were times when Zune kept saying that I needed to plug into my PC even though it was just plugged in. After rebooting Zune worked fine.
Also, keep in mind that as far as WP7 goes, Samsung devices are problem devices.
There's a reason why AT&T is taking their time testing updates. They were the ones who had to pony up tons of cash when the first one bricked a lot of phones because of the firmware Samsung put on thoes phones. After that episode you can't really blame AT&T for taking their time. There were similar issues on Android phones as well (JI6 for the Vibrant, and some Galaxy S updates in Canada were frying Storage cards in the phone, etc.).
I never said Marketplace crashed while downloading apps, I said the download constantly froze. As in, it would get to 10% and free, then when you paused and resumed it would go to 20% and freeze, etc. all the way up to 100%. It did it a LOT. While browsing apps it would crash frequently, yes, that or freeze up on you.
I did not have my market place crashed after NoDo. It crash a lot before update.
Also I doubt the Samsung blame. All manufacture made some buggy firmwares, most SGS firmwares don't have problems. Just recall the Google firmware that send your message to some random person. If it's Samsung's issue, why Surround and Quantum's updates are also being hold.
After updating my Focus is in general faster. The tiles are responsive as before, loading time slightly improved. I don't have the problems stated in OP.

I'm pretty sure you are the only one who read my statement as stating it's been crashing since the NoDo update...
And the AT&T Firmwares are being held because AT&T had to pay for the Focus debacle. It's all on the same carrier. They will make sure they test the **** out of every phone they have to make sure the incident does not repeat itself.
Samsung's track record speaks for itself - and that is quite OS-agnostic as well...

I certainly can't be the only one that's been experiencing the headphone/speaker problem or the OS reverting back to default. It's possible that nobody else has spoken up about it. Either way it's annoying but certainly not a show stopper.
It was a bit embarrassing last night as I was playing some music through my headphones and I wanted my wife to listen to it. She LOVES the Windows 7 interface and is envious of it. She has an iPhone 3 and thinks the interface is cluttered. I stopped the music, pulled the headphone out, pressed play and the time elapse and progress bar were moving but no sound. This was right after she said she had "phone envy." I had to reboot the phone. I think she lost a little bit of envy after that.

AT&T didn't pony up any cash for bricked phones... Don't give them credit for pushing out the pre-update.. update before anyone else.. They have not released any updates for their WP7 phones yet. But are expected to release in couple weeks.
Doesn't matter, I was talking about the other carriers but since AT&T has the Focus here I tend to just write their name in there. After that debacle no one can blame them for holding back to update. To get mad at AT&T for being supercaution about an update that was bricking a phone they carry is illogical.
Well, ran into another instance where I had to reboot. Tried to make a call using the voice activation and the phone responded with, and I paraphrase, "eh, sonny? Speak up, I can't hear you!" So I tried again and it said "EH?" Rebooted the phone and suddenly it had a hearing aid and it worked perfectly. Whether it's a Samsung Focus bug or not it still exists.
I certainly never encountered anything like that. And Marketplace always downloads everything just fine.
OP your phone seems to give more trouble than usual. Have you considered taking it in to at&t? Go to the store and reproduce the speaker problems and let them exchange the phone for you.
Post nodi, market place no longer crashes period
Speed changes are most notable in games!

the features that make me want to keep wp7 never work...

Am I the only person who thinks that if wp7 just worked (as is), you would be 100% satisfied?
My live tiles have never worked properly and using more than 4 drains battery. The web browser is very fast when it works but more than a few times it has locked up and randomly rebooted the phone. The GPS never gives me the correct location, showing me as being more than a mile away from where I really am. When I see something I really want to take a picture of I try to go straight to the camera app by holding the camera button, nothing happens and I have to let go and hold it again.
I am not saying that I don't love wp7, because to me it is better than both iPhone or Android. I just wish it would work the way i expect it to.
The camera button wont work if the proximity sensor is being covered. and i'm satisfied! apart from bluetooth which to me is completely useless as it seems to never work but i've found the gps on my omnia 7 to be awesome, never yet had a lock up or automatic reboot! Mango is going to fix many problems anyway so it'll work out for you
Thanks, I hope so because it is a great os just been very buggy for me.
Which device do you have, OP?
A lot of those issues you're describing sound like a problem with the internal memory or a memory card..
I've never had my phone randomly reboot
I've had quite a few random reboots but none of the other problems mentioned in the OP.

Yes. Which device do you have. I've had none of the above issues and my phone just works AND it's a Dell Venue Pro.
There are live tiles that can become stuck at times like Alphajax and Weatherbug. They eventually release. But, Mango seems to have fixed those issues.
I have the 1.3 Samsung focus using 7390 nodo. This is my third focus and they all had the same problems.

The only - well known for others too - issue I had on NoDo is the tiles not updating, Marketplace not showing updates - all this push stuff.
However browser and GPS are fine, and the phone rebooted itself maybe once - rock solid performance actually (LG Optimus 7).

Do you have a memory card in the phone? if so I am sure you know not all memory cards work...
Well, I have the Samsung Focus 1.3 running 7390 and I've never had those issues.
BTW, the Samsung Focus is notorious for battery drain because of the AMOLED screen.
Anyhow, I've had a few times were the browser shut on me. I just have to launch IE again; I've experienced no reboot issue.
The GPS also gives me accurate location.
As for the camera app, you have to NOT block the proximity sensor when launching from the camera key.
Anyhow, seeing that you constantly have issues with the Samsung Focus model, I suggest you trade in for the HTC Surround or the LG Quantum and see if you have issues there.
I am holding out for a mango device, I am thinking of buying the nokia sea ray or whatever they release. Glad to know that it's not a widespread problem guys, thanks.
About the GPS, you must allow the GPS device to re-locate your location, depend how strong your network are.
This forum have several articles like this when people can't believe themselves when the device show they are LA instead of San Francisco.
I know my HD7 never goes away that far, but it does show the wrong location of mine for a least a mile away several times in a few minutes/
None of those problems on my HD7 ... I'm trying to hold out for Mango. Sounds like they are hardware related though. I'm sticking with what I've got. No sense in buying a new device that is going to have its own bugs.
My problems with the my device are entirely software related ... Cept for the lack of a keyboard and possibly the pink camera hue.

Aint going to comment or fuel any more whinning or *****ing in this post (yours and from others replying here), but I will comment on the issues you've had compared to mine.
Live tiles are working just fine atm... I've had some issues in the past, but they all seem to have vanished. Weather, Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter and a few others and they all work fine now. As for them draining my battery, I do give the Trophy a good run for its money during the day and it still gets home late at nite with enough battery.
Never had any issues with the browser... fast, has NEVER crashed or locked the phone. Don't know what else to tell ya.
GPS also works great... very fast in Foursquare, and I've compared it to at least 2 Android devices and it just flat out won. Map wise, finds my location just fine, doesnt take the 5 minutes to find my location that I've seen some devices take.
Ain't it time you got something non-Samsung ?
Samsung on android sure does suck buggy as hell and GPS never worked on the moment intercept and it buggy on epic

about the live tiles and push... this will be fixed in Mango. Live tiles and push before Mango are hit or miss, badly implemented and poorly tested. If your carrier does not support it propperly it will not work on NoDo... Mango fixed almost every issue regarding push (as far as I noticed, am testing it for a few weeks now).
It sucks they did not implemented it properly at first, since a lot of the people have not been able to use apps with live tiles AT ALL. Mango fortunately corrects this, better late then never.
