Hello everybody. I'm interested in buying an HTC Desire as I found a nice offer and have been following Android developement for a while.
There is a big question mark though, and it's the infamous "sms to wrong receiver" bug. It has been spotted a few times in the past, and even though it's pretty rare I'd like to be sure that it may never occur.
I heard that update 2.3.2 for nexus S fixes this one, is there a solution for the Desire?
Thanks for your help
I think the solution is wait for Gingerbread... I hope we get 2.4 or at least 2.3.3...

Are there custom Roms which state clearly to have taken care of this issue and solved? Yeah this is a big concern for me
factor reset
maybe work
The problem is with the stock android sms app, as it doesn't just send it to the wrong contact, but somehow you end up in the wrong thread because of it handling jumping in and out of the app in an odd way. So using another sms app like chomp or handsend should resolve it.
Personally i haven't had it happen to me on the htc sms app either, and i've been using the phone for more than a year.
Also there is of course the roms based on vanilla 2.3.3 like oxygen, which should include the fix for the std. sms app.
edit: 123xdagsm that just shows, that you have no idea, what this bug is about.. No factory reset will of course not help, and if you read the thread you would know that he haven't even bought the phone yet.

It happened to me few times that a wrong thread opened.
Never had problem with phone sending to wrong person!
Android 2.3.2 has the SMS fix, the new Gingerbread custom ROMs have all have updated to 2.3.3 so they have the fix.
Thank you all for support, I'm now considering buying a Nexus S as I don't want to mess with ROMs that much (I guess I'll change my mind soon though ). If I can't find it with a decent price a Desire with a 2.3.2+ ROM is my choice!

I'm afraid that would "work" like elsewhere over the net
HTC initially said end of Q2, which would mean end of this month but I am unsure if that has changed or not.

I don't think that an age limit is what should be added. I believe that we should add an account age limit(about 1-2 months or so) to prevent noob spamming.... There are more 13 year olds here who know how to root/flash here that some 25'ers

It will be rolled out when it's finished.
I was bored one day and went on to the Desire wiki page.
They claim there it'll be released this month.
Either way, the outcome won't help me either way, I'm using a custom ROM.

Even folks who use custom roms MAY benifit from a HTC released 2.3 version of the system as it may be used in future custom roms.
And who knows despite of all the usual whining about HTC they MAY have made some improvments!
Gingerbread has been released to developers.

You can flash this only via RUU (and probably from SD card if you extract rom.zip). OTA is not available.
Were are all the people that ranted that there is no Gingerbread update now!
Lol, anyone has tested it?

There still technically isn't as most of the comments seemed to be for an OTA update.
So, is that it? Or can we expect more? As it stands, it's a big "take your ****ing GB and don't come running to us expecting support, suckers!"

Wait, let me guess - you won't be buying another HTC device unless you get moar?
awesome
I don't care if there is more, I'm happy with my installed ROM. I'm just in awe of htc's way of doing things, which I find inappropriate to say the least.

i dont get what the big fuss over getting gingerbread from htc is, we already hav more gb roms than you can imagine to choose from, i can understand someone that hasnt a clue about android and there phone, they see there getting an update and think happy days, but surely all the people that are on xda should hav knowledge of rooting and stuff, so they dont need gingerbread as they already should hav it, im using xjs miui conversion and couldnt care less if htc release gingerbread, doesnt put me off buying another htc phone, ramble over lol
Any rooted realese?
I can only talk for myself, and in my case what bothers me is the whole " Gingerbread? yes! no! yes but not whole!" followed by nothing more than a developers build, released last minute. That's just f'ed.

i try my best not to take any notice, yes its hard because its all you seem to see here, the thing is htc make brilliant phones, and while there making brillliant phones and the cleverer devs are rooting them and making amazing roms then we have nothing to worry about

Indeed. If they announce Gingerbread update via Facebook, it should be an update that the average Facebook user can actually get to their phone.
If they had announced here that a developer build was coming, that would have been ok. Then again, as a whole the amount of support for Desire wouldn't have been, only the announcement part.
timestamps on the files seem to suggest they have had this ready since 15th - 22nd july.
fairly last minute considering testing period
I don't remember them announcing it will be an OTA release. Even more, there was a rumor it might be a ruu. So they delivered the update on schedule, but you jumped to conclusions based on something they never promised, and now it is a problem too. It is not HTC's problem if majority of population who inhabitate Facebook's pages are idiots or not. Which they probably are
Bah so no on the air update? that sucks.
anyone checked to see if it is S-Off?
So that means that we normal users (unrooted) cannot install it?

Ok.
Where is the rumor that it might be a ruu?How many times HTC released a rom by ruu, on any device???
The update on schedule was "by" not "at"...
"Testing has gone well" - that means that the update is in developer state or ready to release? What that means to you, smartass?
"It is not HTC's problem if majority of population who inhabitate Facebook's pages are idiots or not. Which they probably are " - do you have a Facebook page, moron? If you do, do you feel a little bit "idiotic"?
Hi all,
I'm new at xda and love to be involved with the devices. I searched something about my question but couldn't find anything that satisfy me. Thats why I made a post. If a made a mess, I already apologize for all.
I'm using Infrarom v0.3 on my Wildfire S and I'm very noob at android issues. So, could you please be clear?
my questions are:
1.What are the bugs of cyanogen 7.2? what makes cyanogen 7.2 better? or do you suggest me cyanogen 9 or higher?
2.What is the most battery-saver rom? cuz Infrarom is quite bad at battery performance.
3.Is there any restriction to get back in terms on kernel or something if I flash cyanogen or other roms?
King regards

The only bug remaining in cyanogenmod 7 is the usb tethering. It drains battery faster than stock roms too but it is the best among cyanogenmod roms.
Stock roms are the best at battery performance so I suggest you to have a look at this thread

when it comes to restrictions, there was some limitations in iOS. For instance, if you update your iphone to 4.1 version, you can't downgrade it to 3.1 anymore. maybe in illegal ways but it was quite painful. thats what i meant there. I apologize for my awful wording

yes I did all. wipe,flash.etc.. But, I didn't like it. it wasn't faster than my old Infrarom. Only the visual things are good. Also, I flashed Gapps and it works but i couldn't download any apps. because it doesn't download anything. Just waiting waiting and waiting... no error or something...
whatever. I will try another roms. Because I have to solve my problems. I can't talk with someone because of my handset. Sound is too low. I can't hear anything when I go out. I have to use speaker on every call. Do you know anything that make my handset sound higher? not the speaker just handset.
One more, touch menu buttons are not working. I tought that it is realated with the rom. Now, I think it isn't. Because there is no setting about it. And I changed my rom, problem is not solved.

Yeah... Cm7 is quite old and the problem might be because of the gapps.
Does that handset problem exist in every Rom? If it is solved by switching roms, it is a software problem. If It's not solved, it is a hardware problem and it is advised to take your phone to the service.
Touch input is mainly caused by improper flash of gapps. Try wiping it and flash everything again

Hello,
I just updated my phone to the last MIUI version (3.5.24) and have an issue: after typing my sim card pin code the phone softreboots, and there's no way of passing through there with the sim card. Can use the phone without it. That happened to me too on the previous release, but not on 3.5.10, which I can still use.
Did a full wipe and the problem with this version persist. I heard some people having the same issue, so I guess it is a rom bug?
If anyone has any idea, please share!

Yes, I did, and the problem still there. I tried using my card in another device and it works, and with previous releases, and with different roms and it also works. The problem only exists in the last two miui releases, but not everyone is having the problem... Is quite strange, don't you think?

Contrary to what I used to believe, the hardware axross the dhds and inspire differs ever so slightly depending on when it was produced. Hello, I have a US Cellular CMDA desire so I am hoping some of you guys could please suggest some good Roms for it, I have had CM7 on it for about a year now which is fine, however recently for whatever reason a lot of my apps crash constantly thus I need to perform a clean install, so since I must go through the trouble of installing a rom again anyway, I would really like to put at least ICS onto it and preferably JB but almost all roms are made for the GSM desire which is not only quite annoying but also saddens me as I cannot load a lot of the cool roms out there onto it, thus any suggestions are very much appreciated.
Although if someone could also explain the shortage of them that would be nice.. because there are a fair number of these phones..
Oh and one last thing, can you possibly make any rom into a CMDA rom? using a script or something?
sorry for the paragraph and Thanks in advance for the help.

Ha, thats funny, because about a year ago when I was looking for roms to put on this phone that was one of the first ICS roms I remember seeing and I actually got it to run and everything, I loved it too, although for some reason I didn't keep it I'm guessing because I had even less space than with stock or it could've just broke, I would say the first one though, (Edit: actually I think it was because something like the camera didn't work but whatever) but alrighty I'll give it another go and see about installing an apps2sd+ or int2sd script.

well I tried your rom and it sorta works.... it seemed to boot but.. the screen is black so I can't use it, although I guess something is wrong with my phone anyway, as some people have used that cmda fix and had success with multiple roms yet I can only get that one to work on it so I dunno whats going on with that... oh well one is better than none I suppose. (and I'm guessing asking for bulit in cmda support would be out of the question )
This wouldn't be because of the Hboot would it? the revolutionary hboot for cmda phones, I wouldn't think so since other users have it.
