Well seems like even HTC don't know the answer to this.
How about adding age limit to this site?

I'm afraid that would "work" like elsewhere over the net
HTC initially said end of Q2, which would mean end of this month but I am unsure if that has changed or not.
Good morning

I don't think that an age limit is what should be added. I believe that we should add an account age limit(about 1-2 months or so) to prevent noob spamming.... There are more 13 year olds here who know how to root/flash here that some 25'ers

It will be rolled out when it's finished.
I was bored one day and went on to the Desire wiki page.
They claim there it'll be released this month.
Either way, the outcome won't help me either way, I'm using a custom ROM.

Even folks who use custom roms MAY benifit from a HTC released 2.3 version of the system as it may be used in future custom roms.
And who knows despite of all the usual whining about HTC they MAY have made some improvments!

Haven't heard anything about it, if I knew anything about coding or whatever it takes I'd work on it myself.
Nope, no one is working on it. I would suggest sending to back to tmo again and pray for froyo thats whit ive been doing im on my 5th 2.3 g2 and it sucks
Well the last leak was the official build and its rooted isn't it? Just not thr ruu. I been drink some dogfish head 120 minute IPA so my memory might be slurred

Can you direct me on how to root by ruu, fresh 120 sounds good right now, been drinking Racer 5 all day.
Gingerbread has been released to developers.

You can flash this only via RUU (and probably from SD card if you extract rom.zip). OTA is not available.
Were are all the people that ranted that there is no Gingerbread update now!
Lol, anyone has tested it?

There still technically isn't as most of the comments seemed to be for an OTA update.
So, is that it? Or can we expect more? As it stands, it's a big "take your ****ing GB and don't come running to us expecting support, suckers!"

Wait, let me guess - you won't be buying another HTC device unless you get moar?
awesome
I don't care if there is more, I'm happy with my installed ROM. I'm just in awe of htc's way of doing things, which I find inappropriate to say the least.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
i dont get what the big fuss over getting gingerbread from htc is, we already hav more gb roms than you can imagine to choose from, i can understand someone that hasnt a clue about android and there phone, they see there getting an update and think happy days, but surely all the people that are on xda should hav knowledge of rooting and stuff, so they dont need gingerbread as they already should hav it, im using xjs miui conversion and couldnt care less if htc release gingerbread, doesnt put me off buying another htc phone, ramble over lol
Any rooted realese?
I can only talk for myself, and in my case what bothers me is the whole " Gingerbread? yes! no! yes but not whole!" followed by nothing more than a developers build, released last minute. That's just f'ed.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
i try my best not to take any notice, yes its hard because its all you seem to see here, the thing is htc make brilliant phones, and while there making brillliant phones and the cleverer devs are rooting them and making amazing roms then we have nothing to worry about

Indeed. If they announce Gingerbread update via Facebook, it should be an update that the average Facebook user can actually get to their phone.
If they had announced here that a developer build was coming, that would have been ok. Then again, as a whole the amount of support for Desire wouldn't have been, only the announcement part.
timestamps on the files seem to suggest they have had this ready since 15th - 22nd july.
fairly last minute considering testing period
I don't remember them announcing it will be an OTA release. Even more, there was a rumor it might be a ruu. So they delivered the update on schedule, but you jumped to conclusions based on something they never promised, and now it is a problem too. It is not HTC's problem if majority of population who inhabitate Facebook's pages are idiots or not. Which they probably are
Bah so no on the air update? that sucks.
anyone checked to see if it is S-Off?
So that means that we normal users (unrooted) cannot install it?

you can instlal it by running the RUU on your laptop with the phone connected simples
it will unroot and reset to factory defaults

"Hi everyone. We have more news about our build of Gingerbread for Desire. Our testing has gone well so we will begin rolling out the update by the end of July! Thank you again for your support!"
Ok.
Where is the rumor that it might be a ruu?How many times HTC released a rom by ruu, on any device???
The update on schedule was "by" not "at"...
"Testing has gone well" - that means that the update is in developer state or ready to release? What that means to you, smartass?
"It is not HTC's problem if majority of population who inhabitate Facebook's pages are idiots or not. Which they probably are " - do you have a Facebook page, moron? If you do, do you feel a little bit "idiotic"?
Hey guys,
I recently bought my one x and i want to root it eventually and right now i would like to leave it as it is. But i want it also to update via the official updates. Will it be harder or even impossible to root afterwards if i update?

I would update personally as there are many nice fixes/improvements in the new updates.

If you plan on unlocking your bootloader via the HTC Dev route then not really.

It might affect your ability to get S-Off, but we don't know as we don't have S-Off.

You should go root, update, and flash a custom ROM. From my experience, my One X is my first super phone after jumping over from a crappy Nokia phone.
The first day when I got my phone, I got all excited with playing around it. I've been reading lots of stuff here on XDA. It was very tempting to root in on day one, but I managed to let it stay. But immediately, the day after, I risked it all and tried to root it, even if I don't have any experiece or background on handling an Android device.
All the hardwork payed off and just this morning, I updated my phone to ARHD 7.2.0 on stock kernel. Everything feels better right now than what I had on day 1.
But in the end, it is still your choice if you want to hack your phone or not. But trust me, it's worth it.

Totally agree. I've had Android for a while now and my first few I kept stock for that reason, the OTA updates. Kept my Hero and Desire on stock. I then got a DHD and now have a One X and both of these I rooted and flashed custom ROMs and can honestly say was best decision I made. There are spme quality ROMs and developers in this community. As long as you do your research you shouldn't find it too hard, theres very good guides on here. I am also running ARHD 'cause I like the stock look but its so much smoother and quicker. Most devs are also very good at keeping up with the official updates too (If not quicker in many cases.).
Like monchee said its your choice, but personally I don't think I could have a device now without root and custom ROM!
Hope this helps

You need to unlock bootloader to get root too.
I would suggest waiting at least a couple of weeks to see if you have any defects as HTC are refusing to repair unlocked phones in many instances.

Of course. I just tought the officiall htc ota's would do their job better. I had a legend before i bought the one x and i really enjoyed s-off,cwm and root.

JellyBean is coming, probably just after some OneX+ units sold... After Christmas... Lol
Do you check manually for updates?
I confess... I check 3/5 times a day...
Just a off-topic to relax!
Cheers...

Well... never really, as I'm already on ARHD 10.5 (JB) =) Cheers
Never. If it comes out I'll hear about it anyway. And I'm on a carrier anyway so another delay. A delay for the crappy UI and a delay for the crappy carrier branding. I can't wait until the older generation die off and the people running the world aren't 60 year olds who grew up in a era where a new revolutionary horse and cart came out every 5 years.

I don't check either. And why would I, really? I am very happy with my current combination (n3x, RENOVATE).:good:
Whenever JB is properly cooked, it'll be publicized here, and I'll benefit as everybody else.
I just got an update

I just got an update notification. It was automatic. I am not as OCD as the OP . I will post momentarily if it is JB.
EDIT: Still 4.0.4. Not sure what the update was for. Anyone know the details?
Usually I don't check but this thread peaked my interested to check. Nothing.
OCD much?
I dont, cid 044 Asia WwE
SkyDragon Sense Rom V1
I already got 4.1 Sense. Since i don't chech anymore
Sometimes, when I'm bored. Even though I know it's for nothing.
This my first HTC who isn't unlocked before 1 hour I purchased... Just becouse is in repair every month's... My problems aren't repaired yet... So i'm waiting official JB to send it again to repair.

Looks to me if you have problems flashing your device, then for a fee they will do it for you over the internet. They don't appear to be selling RUUs

I'm interested in this too. Maybe he works for htc? I know his Rom since day one is a higher build than everyone else's. You can also build an ruu with stock backup. I don't know how but that is what someone did with Verizon.

he also has inside info months ahead of time
I can see why he's done it as HTC threaten legal action but I then can't see how he can 'sell' them as people are still then going to be using them. Also, I'd never trust running an RUU over the Internet as one broken connection and the phone is dead so they'd have to transfer the RUU to your PC locally (and then you could just make a copy of it)
