Wanting to switch ROM - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to switch to CM 7, can I download the ROM from ROM Manager and install through that? Already rooted the droid, currently running Sky Raider 3.5. What do I do for a sucessful and proper way to use CM7?
Thanks for all the help!

You can use rom manager, just make sure you select both check boxes saying: "Wipe data & cache" and "backup current rom". When you press ok, it will reboot your device and take you to recovery. The process is automated from there, and will automatically reboot your device when the process is compete (it may take a few minutes). The device should then boot normally into CM7, and you'll be good to go.
I suggest that you get to know your recovery, it will save you one day. There are millions of tutorials and guides out there to choose from, this is a good start. And, you can always reboot to recovery by powering down the phone, then holding the volume downwhile powering the phone on, then select recovery using volume buttons and power.

I know how to access the recovery, had to because I was stuck on the booting loop.
What about the radio and the other things that I need to update?

What is your radio and hboot? Your radio should be 2.15.00.07.28 and up.
And hboot should be .92
Hboot can be found here: http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=77
And radios here : http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=71

HELP!!! Update

okay so I have been rooted for some time now and decided i wanted to unroot (for reasons im still trying to figure out) so now i am on 2.1 update 1 and cannot update to froyo. when i go to settings>about phone>system update it says my phone is up to date and when download the official 2.2 update and rename it to update.zip and try to install it it says a bunch of stuff then e: error in sdcard update.zip (status 7) update aborted. my radio (baseband) version 1.00.03.04.06 . i have done the PB1IMG thing then tried to update and i get the same thing! I am pissed!
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt
I haven't unrooted in a long time, but maybe it's related to the fact that you're still on the old radio? You might need to be on the official froyo radio which is 2.15.00.07.28
Thank you how do I get the new radio?

Be sure to take extra care when flashing radios. Don't pull the battery while it's updating and even if it looks like it's not doing anything, LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE. Read up in that topic for more information on how to flash radios.
I appreciate your help, I will study up and perform the update tonight. When I post back tonight with the results hopefully I will be updating to froyo

If you are going to go through the trouble of updating the radio and then hope the OTA will push, why not install the update? Its the same process and you'll be assured you have the 3.26 build.
Because I can not install the update right now if you read my first post I explain. It says update aborted

Your doing it wrong. My idea is you would be using hboot to flash the update. It will work and not fail.
You issue using the update.zip idea is phone is checking for files that aren't there and then aborting. Hboot will not look for these files and will upgrade you.
An even easier idea would be just to run the ruu if you have a windows PC.
I'm just trying to save you time and headache. You don't have take my advice.

Don't open or unzip the file. Simply rename and move to SD card. Check the md5 to make sure the zip didn't go tits up during download.
The ruu is a .exe. I'm in class and don't have time to explain. Just Google it.

FYI for ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.5 for CM7

Just wanted to let everyone know that Rom Manager now has clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 for CM7 to be flashed thru rom manager now along with the older versions for android 2.2. So no more flashing via fastboot or terminal, all our flashing and rom jumping can be done much easier all thru Rom Manager. Thanks ClockWork!
If I flashed 3 awhile back do I still press update now? Or do i select delete recovery then update?

Forgive my n00bness, but I am on 2.5.1.2 and can do all these things. I'm excited there's a new version out and I am very, very grateful for the hard work of those responsible. just wondering if I'm missing something...What all does 3.0.0.5 bring to the Glacier?

3.0.0.5 allows you to flash gingerbread based ROMs, basically CM7. According to @cmsrc on twitter today however, there may not be a need to switch through 2.5.1.2 and 3.0.0.5 soon. No time frame on that though yet I don't believe.
Anyone know if they fixed the charging while off issue that cwm has?

This is big in two ways
first of all
Previously we were not able to create a Nandroid backup. A nandroid backup is a snap shot of our OS in it's current state. So if we flash something new, a font, a boot image, what have you we are putting 100% of our faith in that flash that it will not screw anything else up. Because if it does we have to start at ground 0 again.
second of all
the developer of CWRM said that he would make the 3.x flash-able via the ROM manager when the CM7 build approached an RC status. So that isn't to far off.
So now am I gonna be able to update my rom(cm7) with rom manager automatically.

Unable to flash new recovery

I've been stuck on AmonRa 1.8 for a long time. I've tried doing the adb method, the terminal method and the bootloader method. Bootloader loads up has a progress bar the fills up a few times and then goes back to the menu. Any ideas?
Thanks

Can't boot into clockworkmod recovery

Hey guys, my phone runs MIUI and Tiamat. Every time I would hold down the power button to select recovery, it would go into hboot. And if I tried going into recovery from hboot it would just go back into hboot.
I downloaded clockworkmod rom manager and tried getting into recovery from there and still no go.

The way they suggested to disable fastboot is for a stock system. I don't know if you can disable it that way with MIUI. I know you can't do it that way with CM7, which is similar to MIUI.
Do a battery pull, boot into bootloader, then try to go into your recovery from there.
Oh, and get rid of CWM. Flash AmonRa to your phone instead.
I encountered this today. Reflash recovery and then use rom manager to reboot into recovery.

Help - S - off not working

HI everyone, I need some help. My micro USB port went on my phone and VW sent me a replacement. I used the tacoroot temp root methond and the Revolutionary to gain s- off and flashed the newest radio etc. All seemed fine. Fastboot screen say S- off and shows newest radio, I thought great! time to root. Nope..here is what I get:
first of all I have to use adb shell to boot the phone into Revolutionary/CWM recovery. It will not let me do it by holding the power and vol down button.
second when I go into recovery and pick a rom to flash I get this error: E:Can't open /sdcard/xxxx_ rom.zip.
makes no sense to me. Any Ideas?
You didn't receive any errors when using revolutionary? When you boot up your ROM go into settings and look under the power option and make sure fast boot is disabled.
I would go through the whole process again. It sounds like something went wrong in rooting.
