Youtube sound out of sync

I don't use Youtube a whole lot, but every single video i have watched using the built-in app has sound/video out of sync. This happens over 3G or wifi.
Anyone else have this prob?

Yep. Had out of sync youtube. The latest ones I played were less out of sync. Maybe if I keep playing youtube clips every day the difference will get less and less every day.

I also get this problem, but it tends to be intermittant.

I'd be grateful if you could tell me if the attached mp4 files have the same out-of-sync issue on your Desire. They do on my HD2 but they play fine on a PC or the older HTC Touch HD. It may therefore be a Snapdragon chipset issue.

Started noticing that most videos I play from youtube whether though the built in app or the flash player are out of sync, not sure what's going on. Some videos are worse than others but not seen one that was perfect.
Also had the youtube app freeze a few times on me, for example when the unable to play video window pops up. Had to kill the app.

So is this a more general issue of video playback for Snapdragon chipset phones or not? There's a whole heap of stuff on the issue, which affects both YouTube and other video playback on the HD2 here:

I really would be grateful if some folk could try out at least one the test videos on the Desire and let us know if it is definitely in sync or not. Bear in mind that it's a small delay so you have to watch/listen carefully.

I watched both of the drum videos on both my pc and desire and found them both very difficult videos to judge, in the first the female drummers sticks are moving so quickly it kinda looked out of sync even on my pc. In the second the lip sync actually seemed ok on my phone, but with the transparent drum skin it was difficult to judge when the stick actually hit the drum.
I am currently copying a load of mp4 videos to my desire to do some more testing. I have also emailed HTC with my sync problems with youtube (mentioned that similar problem has been observed on the HD2) and wait to here if they have anything to say on the matter.

This is now confirmed as being a general video playback issue on the Desire as well as the HD2. It's therefore more than likely a Snapdragon chipset issue.

I copied about 6 episode of a tv show onto sd card which were transcoded by Doubletwist, and they seem to play back fine, if there is any delay its imperceivable as the lip sync seems fine (I have in the past calibrated sync timing for HDMI and optical connections in home cinema systems so I like to think I would notice any major delay).
However the sync is a real problem for me on youtube and other streaming media, here the sound is almost always unbearably out of sync.

Fwiw I find beebplayer to be hopelessly out of sync also

The two clips are identical except one has had a deliberate 250ms audio delay inserted and one hasn't. Which one plays in sync on the Desire? Please let us know how you get on - thanks.

Well i just got the Desire, and vid 2 is much more in sync than number one,
Youtube is awful, iplayer a waste of time......
Considering these devices are sold on their screen quality etc, you would think you could watch a youtube video in sync, hell, Apple can do it on a touch, which is what i have to use for youtube, until I get the Ipad...........

Agreed the one with the delay added looks in sync, the one that plays fine on your PC looks out of sync. Anyone had anything back from HTC yet? I sent them a mail a couple of days ago not heard anything back yet.

Is this HTC issue or Google Android issue?
Someone has also Nexus One? How is it there?
Note that I saw this audio sync issue as well on my HTC Desire.

Definitely not a Google Android issue - it's the same on the HD2. It seems to affect all devices with the Snapdragon chipset. The sync problem doesn't exist on the Touch HD for example.
If anyone's raising this issue with HTC, they will appreciate it if you include the two files as an attachment. Then they can see exactly what you're talking about and won't just tell you to hard-reset your phone or use a different encoding method etc.

Wonder if anyone with an SE X10 is having the issue, that has a snapdragon so would prove a point. Had a quick search and can't find any mention of the issue on the x10 though.

How can they get this so wrong? the iPhone absolutely nails the desire in the media department - the quality of the stream and the audio output are far far better, and it really pains me to say that!

I hope HTC take note that this is a problem and stop sending crap customer reply "I can help with that, send your phone for repair" responses.
hopefully a software update can fix this issue. Youtube and mp4 files are out of sync on the phone.

Anyone with this issue need to raise it with HTC or they'll do nothing to fix it.
They've now asked me for my software version after I complained about having to send them my 2 week old phone.

Upload video

How do I upload video to internet/SoMe?

You cannot directly upload a video from the phone as far as I have known and tried...
However, the videos are very easily synced with your computer of choice using Zune, and you can upload them to any video sharing service without alterations.

Not able to upload a video, without a PC! Incredible.

I really hope they add that soon.

I really don't think there is any option to do that. Not even in email.
But, don't forget, wp7 records 720p video, so, size of that video will be huge.

With iPhone, you can send video with e-mail (I think) and upload to YouTube.

I spent a good 2 hours yesterday searching trying to find someway to upload video from my phone to facebook. Every app i tried just did pictures. I eventually just did a sync w/ Zune and then uploaded it that way. Only then i became aware that the 3 minute video was 150mb. That would have taken forever on my phone. That is probably why that havent included that in some default setting. With the new data caps and everything, it would be very dangerous to allow video uploading of this size.

On my other OS phone it warns me that I should use Wi-Fi instead of data connection to upload large vidoes to youtubes, but it's not even an option on wp7

iPhone has uncapped upload speed on AT&T (1 to 2 mbps upload speed). All other phones on AT&T are capped at 300kbps upload speeds.
Anyway, upload a few hundred megabytes of video through phone data connection is really a waste of data bandwidth, battery and your time.

not to mention that if you're on the move you can easily go into a dark spot and the video upload would die, meaning you wasted all that bandwidth for a video that didn't even upload fully.

droid does.... sorry couldn't resist. there is an application called "andftp" that can resume an upload if needed. i've had youtube videos resume uploading (i have no idea how) after dropping out of wifi range. walking around the house while uploading a 1.4Gb video and forgetting it's uploading isn't really helpful.
as far as uploading (anywhere, any type of transfer) a video, it seems trivial. sure 720p is large in files, but it should be up to the user to decide how to use their bandwidth.

for the majority of my pictures and videos, i use wifi ftp. there are proximity apps that will turn on wifi/bluetooth and sync (rsync) directories to home computers, and they absolutely ROCK. now, where is my automagical air-charging station that feeds microwaves through the house to charge the phone.

It should be my choice if I would like to upload a video or not.

It is reported by speedtest app on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. It is not the theoritcal connection speed but real world upload test. And also, many AT&T Captivate owners can reach the similar upload speed when using non-AT&T modem firmware (it seems AT&T intentionally disabled HSUPA in the firmware). And AT&T openly admited that fact.
You won't see that speed on anything else, certainly not WP7 phones AT&T released.

That WP7 is probably a wrong phone for you. Most of the features in WP7 are not user selectable.

My guess is that video uploading will come to WP7, but that it is not near the top of Microsoft's to-do list simply because it doesn't provide that much benefit, due, as others have said, to the often huge file sizes.
It's not often one gets that desperate to upload a video that one can't wait until one gets to one's PC. Photos, different ballgame.

I'd love to have it, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
I think I've sent or uploaded a total of 2 or 3 videos from my previous phones. Resolution was small, and it still took forever. That was with EDGE though.
I really would like to see Skydrive store video. But if it doesn't come until the end of the year, I don't think I'll really notice.

With HSUPA disabled on these phones, upload speed on 3G (200 to 300kbps) is not much faster than EDGE.

I can't even send video with MMS.

zune streaming problems, arrive only?

Tied posting it in arrive and focus sections, but got no replies.
Hey everybody, I am having some issues here, not sure if it is a problem with wp7 in general, or specific to arrive. I have Zune pass and absolutely love it, ability to stream music via Zune on the background kind of makes up for no Pandora or background play with other streaming apps such as slacker or last fm. My problem is with how choppy Zune streaming is right now for me. If I'm on evdo streaming basically stops when I get a text and it would say opening for about 10 seconds before usually skipping the song altogether... Now, I get that data connection is idle when text comes in due to no simultaneous voice and data being available on cdma but I've never had that big of an issue with streaming apps and Android. Over WiFi, same thing but not as bad, which really puzzles me as there should not be a problem while on WiFi?
Is this issue specific to arrive or all windows phone 7 phones have that problem? It seems as if I'm browsing the web, Zune rarely streams at all. Would going to att and getting Samsung focus fix this?

Zune streaming works fine on my Samsung Focus both over Wifi and 3G, though I havnt streamed it over 3G that much due to my limited data plan from ATT but whenever I did it worked gr8.

Hmm, when I browse the web with Zune streaming, it goes pretty smooth. The web page rendering may slow, as I at least think it would, when there's say large images that need to be downloaded and rendered, but so far it seems like there aren't that many hiccups. Absent that I'd say it's Sprint.

Yea I thought so too, hmm, now I am even more tempted to get WP7 on ATT. Althought, can't beat the plan I am on now , would be paying $90 more a month at the very least.

Amazon Instant Video App?

I'm wondering if this will have an app for Amazon Instant Video since it is one of the advertised features. If it does, would it be possible to port it to other Android devices? Right now the only way to watch Amazon Instant Video on an Android device is to spoof a desktop user agent and use flash player. While this method works, it would be a lot easier to have a native app, especially with flash player being discontinued.

Works on unrooted Gingerbread devices and force closes on Honeycomb/ICS when you try to go to a video's page. On rooted devices you'll need to install OTA Rootkeeper then force close and re-open the video app. You can also freeze/defrost it with Titanium Backup.
Option #1 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
Open the Amazon video app and find a video you want to watch. Tap the orange box to buy the video and log in with your Amazon account. Once logged in the prices in the orange boxes should adjust if you have Prime and you'll be able to watch videos. If you get an "Error Linking Device" proceed to option #2.
Option #2 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
From a Kindle Fire ROM dump obtain and install MyAccount-unsigned.apk and com.amazon.dcp.apk. The files in this post should work even though its not a complete ROM dump. Now you can associate your Amazon account with your device just like you would a Google, etc account. From Settings, Accounts you should be able to add an Amazon account. Now go back into the Amazon video app and you should already be logged in and able to watch videos.
If you still get a "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos" error try restarting your device after you temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper. Some devices, usually running CM roms have had issues with the error even after temp unrooting.

My understanding is that it will play instant video, although idk what app will do it.

When flash is discontinued, you won't lose your ability to view video. more than likely, they will replace it with HTML5. As long as thy don't go to Silverlight, you should be OK.
Ditto, though about the native app. Why hasn't amazon released this type of app?

Yeah, popped over to see if there was an apk for it to try on other devices. Would definitely want to give it a shot.

There is a native Amazon Video app on the Fire. The apk installed and ran fine on my Nexus S (although the layout was a bit wonky). The problem that I encountered is that there is no way to sign in to your account from the app.

Where is the apk?

Can you post the apk. Myself and others would be interested even if it doesn't work yet. Perhaps there is another app or service needed to get you logged into Amazon similar to porting android market to devices that don't have it. I also read that Amazon is releasing their source if that makes things easier. You'd think they would release Instant Video as an app but it is a selling point of the fire.

The apk is in system/app, and is called "ATVAndroidClient.apk"

FC's when trying to watch movies, or view help. Must be due to sign in as mentioned previously. May need the accounts and sync apk installed.....
Looks nice though.

fwiw, post-rooting, myself and a couple others are no longer able to instant stream a video...

Sweet, and it works on the Droid 3.
What I did was tapped on an orange $1.99 button to buy an episode of a show. This brought up the Amazon login window and I logged into my Amazon account. Now that I'm logged in, it knows I have Prime Instant Videos for free so it lets me view everything.
There are some messed up parts of the GUI due to it only supporting the Kindle's resolution. I also noticed that once the on screen controls disappear during a video there is no way to get them back. I have to press the back button on my phone to exit back to the app, but luckily the app keeps your place, allowing you to resume.
Overall it is good enough to be usable, I watched a few minutes of Top Gear and Lost on it just fine. Both the Droid 3, Bionic, Razr, etc and the Kindle Fire have TI OMAP 4430, not sure if this has to do with anything.

Doesn't appear to work over 3G. You can browse videos but get the error "Playback over cellular network is currently disabled"

Yeah, I tried it on my Inc 2 and had more success....my first attempt was on honeycomb.
Wasn't able to log in. network error. Will try on wifi....
Definitely looked better on my tablet, so probably ideal for gingerbread tab.

It won't work over 3G for me, it wants wifi. It will be better on a tablet I'm sure, some of the things like the search box, etc feel a little small on a 4" screen, but its still a lot easier than using a browser.
If you got it working on your Incredible 2 then it may not actually be GPU sensitive. Maybe this will end up working on a wide variety of devices. Makes you wonder if Amazon will release a version to the general public.

Yeah, got it working on my A100, but agian...honeycomb. FC's arent unfamiliar. Inc 2, I got as far as the login screen, but got "an error has occured, please try again" on wifi and 3G. Could be an account issue though.
Hopefully someone that knows what they are doing can get it to work properly.

That was what I had experienced on the Xoom w/ the Google Market for Movie Rentals.
It let's you rent them and they show up in Videos. But you can't watch them if you're rooted. You have to watch them through a browser.

Apparently this app checks for root and gives this error even on the Kindle if rooted. The solution is to temporarily unroot with an app, details at this link:

I installed on my Bionic (currently removed the root while waiting for that update to show up) and it looked ok, a few graphic issues.
I tried to login, but it came back with a message to check my WiFi connection.

Netflix app ?

So I got my new case today and decided to give Netflix a try... however, when I start the app, login etc... I see a video that my wife was watching.
So I have the option of Continue Watching, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to cancel it, select a different video etc... You can hit browe, but there doesn't seem to be any other controls.
Seems kind of strange that you have to go to the website to control simple things like that.
Or am I simply missing something.

You're missing something. That's the way it works even on the website. It shows you most recent viewed movie. Unless you have a different account, that would be weird.

On the website, I can see what is in the instant queue, I can go to something and say Play and it will start playing that video. On the app all I can do is continue watching. In this case, I have cleared the queue on the website, but the app still sees Walking Dead the series which my wife selected. Can't get rid of it. If I finish a video (going to the end of the it), it wants to play the next in the series... wierd.
You are right, I rarely use Netflix at all, but I can via the web at least select something new and tell it to play it now.

I'm watching Futurama on my Roku and Breaking Bad on my N7. When I load the app I see my Instant Queue, Previously Watched, and recommended ones like normal. I am using the same account on both devices. Doesn't have a problem streaming 2 different shows to different devices at the same time.
