Slingbox On Windows Phone 7 - Windows Phone 7 General

Has anyone actually used slingbox on wp7 yet? how is the performance of it? i have a slingbox solo that im probably going to sell and upgrade to the pro hd (in preparation for the htc trophy that im getting hopefully if verizon releases it next week)
is slingbox worth it on wp7? i had it on my tp2 but it would always lose the connection after about a year and disconnect frequently i just figured it was a lack of support for windows mobile or something but im willing to give it a try again on wp7. how is it on wp7?

up
I am in a similar boat. I used a Hava player with WM and loved it. March Madness is making me realize I need a solution for the HD7 so I'm thinking of getting a SB Pro in the near future.
Anyone with any first hand review please chime in. We're listening!

No matter what phone I move to and when, the one thing I'm going to hold on to is the keyboard from my TP2....I fully intend to frankenstein it onto any device I may use in the future
Point being....I won't be changing devices until (unless) somebody releases another WM unit with specs at least as strong as the HD2, AND a keyboard as good as the TP2's. 'Till then, I'll be happily thumb-dancing away, Rhodium-style!!

Me And My Friend Was Talking Yesterday And He Said He Wants The Touch Pro 3 To Be The HD2 Screen/Specs With The Touch Pro 2 Keyboard. I Think That Would Make Me Come Back. But The Touch Pro 2 Is Not Fast Enough For Me. I Wish It Could Be Overclocked.
HTC Desire already preordered...
I'll certainly miss the awesome hardware keyboard and tilting screen.
Problem with the TP2 is not the hardware for me. It's just WinMo. I've been on this platform ever since my Touch Dual a couple years ago and I know it's very capable. But the platform is outdated.
I hope WinMo7 turns out to be as revolutionary as M$ claims it will be. In the meantime, I'll be jumping ship to Android for now...
The Nexus One did it. I sold my X1 for a tilt2 after the t-mobile only Nexus one was announced. It took about 45 minutes for me to pick up one of the AT&T Nexus Ones after it was announced today. I've been running Android recently to see how I liked it, and it wins for me over WinMo.
I'm willing to adopt any Windows Phone Series 7, keyboard or not. I say calm down on all the phones now, b/c the whole landscape as we know it will be changed by 1/1/11..
but yeah, this elusive TP3 would be nice..since a WPS7 phone can have a keyboard as seen by the LG, hopefully they're holding off for that..
im going to consider an hd2 in the future. i was thinking to get it much sooner, but ill wait a bit for the prices to come down. the tmo version has a really low price and should lower the price of the t9193. if i do, i will miss the keyboard and the speaker. but damn, that screen. it could make an iphone user commit suicide.

That could only be proven with thorough, extensive testing. And then more testing. In fact, here, let me give you a hand with that
I am actually considering the AT&T compatible Nexus One. If it had a keyboard I wouldn't have to even think about it.
I am torn between the HD2 and the Desire. I haven't given up on WinMo yet, although I am disheartened by what I have seen of Windows Phone 7.
I also have a Toshiba TG01 which, although a flawed device, has convinced me that my next phone must have a 1GHz Snapdragon or better.
HD2
I definitely need something with a little more processor, so I've been thinking about the HD2. I will miss the keyboard some, but I've got so used to using swype, I don't think I'll miss it that much.
I really like my TP2, but I've even more so loved the Android OS - even though it doesn't totally work. If I could get an Android OS phone, with front cam, back cam, wifi, BT, FM radio w/ RDS, and a physical kb, I'd sell the TP2 in a heartbeat. I'm so over the winmo OS, and the new microsoft version doesn't look any better. Android OS please!
I love my Rhodium tooooooooo much to move onto another device.
When the time comes to renew my contract I'll probably get an HD2.
But I'll use my Rhodium as a phone. And the HD2 as a toy
i like my tp2. but as soon as us cellular gets something with more speed and not windows 7. ill be jumping ship. prob to android. ive read all the findings at mix 10 on windows 7. and i will be goin to android. windows 7 looks great. but its lockd down. and all they stopped us from doing with it. its not worth the wait. so bye bye wmo.
T-Mo HD2 next week will be replacing my TP2 which replaced my G1 which replaced my Wing.
Looks like a 6 month cycle.
I wish VZW would come out w/ the HD2...I might go with the Nexus one or this thing:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Saygus-Vphone-phone-pa_4463.html
I also like the HTC Incredible for vzw, it looks like HD2 hardware w/ android. Most likely i'll keep the keyboard and go w/ a saygus if anything (although chances are I wont get a new phone)
I keep looking at the Droid. Figure I'll wait a few months, see what shakes out with (if) the 6.5 update, and then move over to the Droid. I'm out of contract now with Sprint, and they don't seem particularly to care if people leave.
I am getting the HD2 for sure, I will keep my TP2 just to mess around with it but I have tested the Tmo HD2 a few times at my local store and I love it. I am just watching the time tick by until next Wednesday and I will be joining you in the NRG HD2 forum
TP3 only!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have until Summer 2011 before I can upgrade my Touch Pro 2, bear in mind though I kept my Tytn II for 3 and a half years because nothing else fitted form factor wise. I like the fact my screen tilts and the keyboard is phenomenal. It may be a while after my upgrade date it may not be, not forgetting that by then WP7 Series should have fixed all the alleged release issues such as no multi-tasking and no copy and paste, no side loading 3rd party apps, no full USB connectivity, no sd card loading......the list of faults with WP7 series so far is shocking.

Flash WinMo 6.x.x to EVO

Hi all,
i know is too early to say but do you guys think we would be able to override the android partition with a winmo 6.x install?
me personally i think that device is wonderful according to the specs and pictures I've seen but again i love WinMo i cant see myself without it. i ditched the TP2 from sprint waiting for a snapdragon WinMo phone but that doesn't seem to be the case now since they've announced the EVO running on Android. Android is one heck of an OS but i preferred WinMO 6.x series, not even WinP 7 Series it is cool and all that but i don't think i'm ready to drop WinMo 6.x or Windows Phone Classic just yet.
i know it is almost impossible because of CDMA drivers support.
what do you think guys ?
Do you have an HD2? If not, buy one of those instead. If you do, then apart from the 8MP camera and the extra memory, you already have the WinMo version of it.

No indication that there's going to be an HD2 that runs on Sprint in the US. I would say there's a 0% chance that anyone will put WM 6.5 on the EVO, due to hardware compatibility and (frankly) a lack of interest.
I would love winmo on my future Evo, but I agree the effort involved would be immense and for very little return.
thanks for your responses guys, all of them make sense but again this was from a personal point of view, i just can't spend $500 for a device with ancient specs and with a keyboard, when there is a HD2 with WinMo around there that cost the same but GSM counterpart not CDMA(sprint). my dilemma here is leave or not leave sprint, i love sprint Plans and services but not the phones, lol.
HD2 officially announced for T-Mo yesterday, so at the very least, that's an option. It's not on Sprint though (although T-Mo plan is on par with Sprint's).

lol, i love android; i dual boot my sprint diamond with WinMo-6.5.3 and android eclair. it's just that for some weird reason i feel attracted by WinCE, lol. seriously i don't want to give up on WinMo yet i find it fun to use and so far it does everything i need.
I am looking forward that HTC will release the EVO 4G in Win6.5.xx version very much soon. I am using TD2 and TP2 but the HD2 turns me off. One of the reason why I am not interested at all with HD2 was because the HD2 do not have front camera and support dual screen video call which I use all the time over here. And the other reason for me staying away from Android phone is because I can't hacked the Garmin Mobile XT for my AGPS needs at the moment.
This EVO4G has the optimum hardware but I really need the OS and softwares for my needs.
Does anyone knows how to install Garmin Mobile XT on this EVO4G?
winmo is going the way of the Dodo in my opinion...and the OP not liking sprint phones? they are going to thave the first 4G device in the country, and have some of the best phones on the market...what's not to like?

true that but again compared to other carriers their phone lineup kind of sucks, all i wanted was a variant of the tp2 without the keyboard maybe a sprint version of the whitestone but they went big with a 4g hd2 running android, where is the love for winmo users?
The 4g is entirely in the soft ware.
So with this phone if you put winmo on it you wouldnt get the 4g.
No android, no 4g.
It is hard enough to port Android to a winmo device, let alone the other way around!
Not going to happen
Sorry dude but Microsoft is shutting down all windows mobile related operations soon, even they realize it is time to move on. Plus when the xdandroid project started, they already had harret to work with. I dont know of any simmalar software for android. Another barrier you will face is the fact that windows mobile is not open source where as android is. But the main reason you wont see it being worked to heavily on is the face that no one realy wants windows mobile as an operating system anymore. For example I was proud to have a Touch Pro back when the iPhone 3G came out. I pointed out all the flaws to my friends and they went off and used one of their apps to help them pout. However, android is now almost a modern version of windows mobile, there realy isnt anything you can do on windows mobile that you cant do on android. (except boot non-native OSs )
triboot
In light of today's hd2 wp7s news dare we hope for a phone that could boot all three? Could that even remotely be possible?
Bounty
I'm a WM6 power user. I've tried Android, but i prefer WM call it what you want. It may be a dead or eyesore to most but i would not buy any phone w/o WM6.5.x. I'm willing to pay for a rom that would intall WM6.5 to the EVO. I think i'm not the only one.

You're not the only one!
Count me in!!!
I am in the transition process from sprint/tp2 to tmobile/hd2 myself. I am still within my 14 days buyer's remorse period, and still undecided whether or not I am going to keep the HD2 and say goodbye to Sprint.
For some reason, I feel like the HD2 is going to be the last great (or at least comparable---HW specs-wise) WinMo6.5 device. BUt at the same time, I think that *IF* any device is going to be able to TRIPLE boot OS's...its probably going to be the HD2! An android port I think is inevitable, and WP7 port i think is highly probable...especially considering all the geniuses we have around here @XDA! *Crosses Fingers*
Some would say my paying full price for a device with a "dying OS" is silly...especially with the Evo just around the corner!!! But Android is not something I am ready for or comfortable with right now. I like the idea behind the OS, but i do not like or appreciate it's execution, invasiveness nor immaturity. And I dont even wanna get started on the degradation that is WP7!

Get Evo now, or wait for a WP7 device?

Hey everyone, need advice get an Evo now, I have a place to get one, or get a WP7 later and wait it out?
It's been tough seeing my sister with the Evo while I'm still running this old stuff but I'm waiting for WP7.
If you're like 90% of the people who have the evo, you'll be eligible for a full handset upgrade every year through sprint premier ($70/mnth+ on single line, or $100/mnth+ family line)
If I had a handset upgrade every year, I'd probably get the epic or evo. You can always arrange a trade with someone if you really want a WP7 before your next upgrade
I would just get the Evo, WP7 just shot itself in the foot lately. Instead of going forward their going backwards no tethering, no internet browser options. I could go on and on. Ill look around next month for a upgrade as well since my contract is up. I hate to leave windows mobile 6.5 but no more support for my i637 jack.
But then again, it might be about half a year befor sprint and verizon get WP7 as MS is currently looking to only support GSM first.

Honestly, when I put my Omnia II just running titanium up against the iphone and android...I don't really see it all that lacking. I think MS really misstepped by not releasing photon. I think an updated 6.5 version would have really stomped Android. I wonder how close they were to release.

It might have. But WP7 is still light years ahead of that. Who cares if it's missing a few features at launch that only "power users" really care about? I am extremely glad they took the course that they did. Photon was evolutionary, WP7 is revolutionary in terms of UI and platform. Would we have seen Silverlight and XNA (including Xbox Live) on Photon? no way. We'd still be using WinForms, maybe just slightly updated with some new controls and styling and gesture support. Ever since the Zune HD launched, many people were hoping Microsoft would make a phone based on that philosophy and that's what WP7 is. Metro is the ****.

That's where "jailbreaking" will probably come in.
Paperclips your starting to seem very apologetic for WP7, but I can understand why. People just don't want to like WP7, I think were part of the few.
But back on the subject at hand. Yes I'd say get the Evo 4g if your on sprint, because WP7 isn't coming to that carrier until mid 2011. IF your not on Sprint than try other carriers and them make your judgement off that.
How much of you folks truly do use tethering? And who just make another fuzz just because? I'm sure most of you fall into the latter category.
Anyone that needs mobile connectivity regularly would just get a 3G thumbstick anyway. They're cheap as ****, too.

That's not really a solution. I need a new SIM, a new contract, another device to carry with me at all times, I need to remember to pay for it, etc. If I used it daily I would maybe get it, but for occasional use it's just a hassle.

I wouldn't say apologetic. I'd say realistic. I just think that there is room for more than two operating systems as some people on this forum think. They view every consumer as a power user when it's far from true. Jailbreaking probably will happen but whenever I decide to buy a Windows Phone I'm not sure I will need to. I'm honestly waiting for one that has 4G for Verizon which probably won't come for the second half of next year. For the time being, I'm perfectly content with my Incredible.
I'd actually suggest that the OP buy the EVO if they're getting an upgrade next year anyway. By then there should be a great selection of 4G Windows phones if they so choose to go that way.

I recently upgraded to the HTC HD2 and I am very happy with it now that I have upgraded to the Turbo3D graphics driver, Cookie Tabs, and done the performance registry tweaks.
After spending the cash on this device I hate to throw it away on another phone. I will wait till wp7 settles in a bit before moving over.
It really depends on what happens. If it has lots of quality apps, more freedom than iOS, and hardware and wireless providers not tampering with the OS, more than likely. Glad I'm not eligible for an upgrade for another year.

In Poland it will be probably some months later.
I'm eager to try it. But that also depends on what upgrades they plan.
If the plan is to bring those big missing things I'll be happy.
But if not unfortunately Android is the only way.
Now observing and plan to stay half a year more with WM.

Cheers.
I will buy the htc Mozart!
The screen on my HTC Diamond cracked yesterday, so I'm going to have to upgrade whether I like it or not. Display still works and hopefully it'll hold up until the phones are out.
I'm hoping that Vodafone have some reasonable tarriffs, I don't really want to go above £25 a month really. Hopefully the OS is working properly straight out of the gate and all of my old WM syncs straight across.
From what I've seen of WP7 so far, I don't think I'll bother.
Saying that though, if it ends up working really well when it's released, I might change my mind
My Fuze is dying. It has had a nice run but really needs to be replaced now. I am not thrilled about the first three handsets that appear ready to be released by att so I may end up getting one as a stopgap and then buying another as the gen II's roll out in Q1 2011. I want the OS to succede so I really do not have a major problem with buying two in three months. I'll give the first to my son.
What I'd ideally like:
1.3 GHz processor
Slider qwerty keyboard
16 or 32 Gig internal memory
8mp camera
>3.8 inch screen
For Aussies here. Was talking to a Telstra personel in the main Sydney store opposite Apple store, and he said that he heard that they would be definitely getting the HTC Mondrian, and that the HD3 will officially be called HD7 (Tho did not say whether we'd get it)
Release date, he said it was originally end of this month, then 8th November.
Honestly, I think he's just been reading tech news. Cus the only dates thats been said online were 11th Oct (official release), 21ist Oct (Euro release) and 8th Nov (US release), and cant remember the 8th Nov being pushed back date.
Anywho, he said realistically expect the phones to come out in 2-3months... which suck cus I was expecting Australia to get it before anywhere else (a rumour i read online).
Was thinking of moving to Telstra from vodafone, because Ive heard NextG murders all the other telco's in speed and coverage... But if I'm forced to wait that long, I might just get a sammy device on ebay once it becomes available, tho it'll most likely only support the 900mhz band (voda, 3 and optus).

Yep I've seen that, I love the design, but not a fan of the portrait keyboard, plus its abit too thick for my liking and supposedly the Dell wont be one of the first few handsets to come out (might be in the second wave of handsets first half of 2011. I've got my eyes on the Omnia7 which might be a WP7 version of the Galaxy S, and hopefully be released this year.
Only about 8 more days til WP7's official release in london, so hopefully devices will be confirmed then . I'm still gonna hope for the sammy to have a hummingbird processor, or the HTCs to somehow have the Adreno 205 GPU. Fingers crossed.

Haha,yea...same here, finger crossed and wait for my Dell lightning. Hope it won't use the first gen processor...either second gen or third will do...or maybe 1.3ghz...lol
When the TP2 (Tilt2 for me) was released, I bought one the first day I was able. I am running the recently released OEM ROM and this has been the best device I have ever owned. I am very happy with my Tilt2.
There are several issues which will need to be proven incorrect or resolved predicating that I maintain a wait-and-see posture. Some of these will be deal breakers. In inverse order of importance they are:
Rumored incompatibility with Outlook – Contacts, Calendar, and Notes!
Rumored inability to tether – I frequently use the Tilt2 as a modem for my laptop.
Not having a removable SD card
Downward compatibility – will the OS run WM6 programs, or will I have to find/research/purchase all new software programs.
I’m not certain I am ready to give up my hard keyboard yet. I’d like to see a “TP7” – something with a hard keyboard, and larger CPU and display.
I will be cautiously researching these issues for remedies or suitable work-arounds prior to investing in this technology.

The internet tether function already confirmed here,It'll not available at launch, but it'll add in via update...

as soon as verizon releases a htc wp7 with a keyboard and a big touch screen ill be getting one
My Tilt needs to be put to rest, I plan to get the HTC Mondrian. Even though I was expecting better specs, such as a newer processor and front facing camera, the phone is a major upgrade from my current one. I do remove my SD card a lot, but not having one is something I can deal with and same with the amount of storage. But overall, I'm looking forward to the phone and OS.

Cruzer,
At least you have Telstra Staff that are reading and know about these phones! Here in Brisbane it's shocking. They either know about them and have been told not to tell anyone about them or they just plain don't know anything!
I even had one guy in the City Store plain out lie to me cause he had know idea at all, saying Nokia had a model coming (N8) which was what Telstra was stocking at launch and that all current WinMo 6.5/6.1 phone could get an update. LOL! Just told him he had no idea and walked off!

Launch day...

So, launch day is here..
As far as I know the release will contain phones from: LG, HTC, samsung and maybe Dell...
What's your pick, and why?
I would consider an HTC w/ 3.7-4" screen, really love the HTC Hub they have shown off, plus I am an HTC fanboy.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
hate the htc hub..
from top to bottom my choice..
Samsung GT-i8700
LG E900
hTC Mondarin
Samsung Focus (i9700)
normally i'd say the htc device, but the sammy does look really sexy.
I don't know what to pick actually, but if there's one with 16GB storage, or replaceable miniSD (I know that all data will be lost, but that's no problem if I can replace it before first boot ) that'll be my pick.
Anyone know anything about other launch dates, e.g. Swedish launch
The HTC Hub looks way overdone and too busy. Pretty, but unnecessary.
That being said, I am still hoping for a nice HTC device to show up today (with at least 16gb of storage). Can't stand LG or Samsung. A surprise Dell device might be nice too.
Really excited for today news. Let's hope for a surprise early store availability (like now).
Dell Lightning for sure!
Cant WAITTTTT~~~~~~~~
I care more about when, not what. I hope that despite what's being said before, that European launch is today, not ten days later.
I have an application I want tested on a real device, before submitting. I'm already late as it is thanks to that.
I'm in the same boat. I experience a bit of lag in my game in the emulator on my laptop, but not on my desktop. I want to test it so it works fine on a phone before I release it.
UK Launch Date
FYI: The official UK launch date is 21st October

HTC surround
I guess the HTC Mozart will be a great phone (think that would be 16Gig), but I really fell in love with the Dell Venue Pro (aka. Lightning). seems to be an US only device though..
edit: seems only the HD7 and the HTC 7 Pro will be 16 gig.. And the 7 Pro looks very nice I must say (except for the 3,6" SLCD).. but the release date was too far away altso

How much is Dell venue pro?
Dell Venue Pro will be my device... it will be at least $199.
I don't get why it was called launch day if the phones weren't available to be purchased yet.
Focus for me.
