USB debugging not an option? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have USB debugging checked in Settings-->Applications-->Development. However, when I plug my phone into my computer via USB, it simply says "Charge Only. When I click the "Charge only" on the notification bar, my only options are: Charge only, HTC Sync, Disk drive, and Mobile Broadband Connect. What's the deal here? I have done USB debugging before....

If USB debugging is on under development settings it should automaticly start USB debugging when you insert a USB cord into both your computer and phone.
There is no menu in the sense nptification interface that has that option but i may be wrong. I haven't used sense since i got my phone.

Hmm, then if I have USB Debugging checked, why doesn't it automatically go to USB Debugging when plugged in? Does it matter what ROM I have?

I dont believe your ROM matters but as linuxmotion said, once enable it should automatically turn on once you plug your usb in. It should be on whether you pick charge only or disk drive, etc.. without you having to do anything.
look for a notification about usb debugging when plug your usb in, you should see one if you enabled it in development.

Desire PC Connection Problem

Hello people
My Desire was connecting fine to my PC yesterday and I could access the SD card but now when I try it says device not recognized. I tried reinstallin HTC sync and driver but same problem and have also restarted PC and phone. Im on Windows 7 64bit.
anyone??
this is driving me crazy
But once you connect your phone via USB to PC, on phone screen it will show 4 items of connections, did you choose the one of storage card??
I'm also having issues with HTC Sync.
It normally connects fine and syncs with Outlook OK. Every now and again (about twice a day) it will show the "charging" icon when plugged into the USB port (on any computer) but not recognise the fact that it's connected via USB. The "connection options" dialog isn't even accessible.
If I reboot the phone it immediately connects and starts working, so I know it's not a PC issue. It's like the phone thinks it's connected via a charging cable and not a full USB data cable even though it's the cable that came with the phone.

I'm having this exact same problem, would rather not have to reboot the phone every time I want to access the SD card via the PC as I do it quite a lot!
Anyone know of a fix? Or is there a way of bringing up the 'Connection Options' dialog as I can't seem to find it anywhere on the phone, only the Connect to PC options which lets you set the default mode it's supposed to go into when connecting via USB
to mark on HTC (setting/connect to pc/ask me), install HTCSync.exe on PC, disconnect all usb cables(including HTC ), to connect only HTC device to PC .... it helps me
if u dont want to have to reboot every time u want usb use USBSwitcher its free app hat mounts the sd on ur pc
still doesnt fix getting to tether/htc sync
why i alwayes need to restarts the device to comeup with the connection menu PLEASEEEEEE FIX PLEASEEEE :..(

Is not this.
Checked or not, when connecting the usb cable, it should show something like "charging only" or "htc sync", but only shows "USB debugging connected".
Just trying to establish some relation between our devices, do you guys have "extended controls" installed?

USB Debugging

I've had a search for this and can't find it, so I'll risk the search police:
I enabled USB debugging so I could create a gold card.
I then wanted to resync with outlook before changing ROM.
I disabled USB debugging in settings>applications>development.
When I plug in the USB cable and select sync it turn on USB debugging.
I've turned the phone off and on, made sure debugging is not selected after this and still when I connect the USB cable and select htc sync it turns on USB Debug. I believe this is stopping me from syncing and frankly I'm getting pissed off now so I'm off to bed.
JAmes.
PS. I guess I should add that I had htc sync all working before.

[Q] USB debugging "permanently on" question

Are there any reasons why I should turn off the "USB debugging" setting? For example performance or security or battery-life or more?
Thanks again for any ideas!
i looked through my processes(with the USB on and off) and found nothing associated with it that draws power or uses memory...although there may be a process that runs while the device is connected with a computer or other usb source
Thanks for your quick response. So there is apparently no performance/battery impact. That leaves the question of security?
Is it secure to leave this setting on?

Should be, unless you set it up for wireless debugging either manually or through an app. Then its not entirely secure, though someone would need to know your ip address and have adb to do anything.

a2sd turns on usb debugging permanently?
Don't think I want USB debugging on all the time. Seems like a great new way for future malware to jump from your friend's laptop when you've just plugged in to charge.
Since I flashed a2sd (dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-1-signed.zip) USB debugging seems to be always on. It shows in notifications, but not in the settings gui (settings -> applications -> development).
Is this normal? Anyone know a way I can stop it?
It is better to turn off USB debugging.
What you see is not normal Maybe it is just a glitch. I would reboot the phone.
You could also try to connect via adb to see whether it is really on.

[q] usb mtp mode

on both star burst 1.4 and viperboy i have had the problem that when plugged into usb the phone automatically connects over MTP protocol...... how do i change it to MSC?
I can't remember how since it's been a while but Google how to switch it from MTP to mass storage. You edit something in Windows, it's pretty simple and easy. This of course, sets it to default to mass storage. On the phone though you can manually do it by going to settings>wireless settings>usb settings
It should be self explanatory after that.
If you turn on USB debugging, it should disable MTP mode.

[Q] myTouch slide not connecting to USB debugging.

My myTouch slide stopped loading the memory card and when I plug it into my computer it doesnt turn on USB Debugging, is there a fix for this?
And yes I did check the USB Debugging box.
