How do I install a new radio on DHD? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do I just flash it like a rom?

No, you shouldn't attempt that.
Radios need to be flashed via fastboot from command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.img

You do S-OFF first and then ENG-off. Eng-off is needed to be able to flash radios. Good luck!

Radio ?????

ok im really new to android, i have managed to install a Rom. but what do i do with the radio file
A clear step by step guide would be great.
thanks
Install ENG HBOOT (S-OFF) >>Step 2 - ENG HBOOT (S-OFF)<<
If your flashing a radio I strongly recommend >>Radio S-OFF<<
Then follow >>This Guide<<

No, he needs ENG S-OFF, not Radio S-OFF
Yes, as far as I know, ENG S-Off is must to have to revert (downgrade) radio.
Apologies, Eddie1506 is correct you only need ENG S-OFF.
However, I still recommend Radio S-OFF. If your unlucky enough to flash a radio that prevents root & downgrading, Radio S-OFF comes to the rescue.
thats only if you flash the OTA update if you flash the radio sepereately you dont loose root and S-OFF
You can't do radio s-off after upgrading the radio so best to do it before. If you don't you won't have any opportunity to downgrade the radio again if it gives you any issues. It's unlikely you will get issues but better safe than sorry.

[Q] ENG S-OFF Required ?

Ive rooted my phone and done the radio-S-OFF as also installed a cooked rom. My question is, do I need to have ENG-S-OFF or not ?
What can you do with ENG-S-OFF that you cannot do with SHIP-S-OFF ?
It allows you to flash partitions with fastboot.

If you look in the dev section, you'll find 2 threads giving you 1 click tools to get eng and / or radio s-off (posted and created by jkoljo)....
be sure to read the guide to understand the risks
I allready used one click tool, still have ship s-off

The opposite, he wants ENG S-OFF.
ENG SPL or ENG S-off is the same as radio s-off, there is not extra functionality, infact on the classic desire we can modify the partition table with just bootloader s-off

You are mistaken. ENG S-OFF is not Radio S-OFF. Both provide S-OFF, but only ENG S-OFF will allow remote fastboot flashing.

You can, but only with the ENG hboot. The problem is that if anything goes wrong when flashing hboot, you have a brick (unless you manage to reflash it successfully before rebooting).

yeah i understand that, but on the other hand its safer to flash a radio from fastboot rather than recovery isnt it? so its a double edged sword

[Q] Help! Stuck when flashing radio.img

Hi i have been trying to flash radio.img and have followed the steps in the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
However my phone always gets stuck/hang just as its about to finish when i do this step : 8. Once your phone has rebooted in to bootloader screen Type fastboot flash radio radio.img
What should i do?
Sorry to ask you a stupid question but do you have ENG S-Off? And from the radio thread you have to "wait until the send and write operations are completed (this may take a few minutes)".
yes i have s-off and eng-off already
in the command prompt it says writing 'radio' .....
it has been stuck like this for the past 40min :/
Did you have a look at the youtube flashing radio video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1dpfa0IAxw
i've just watched the video, and i did the same thing. but i would get stuck at around the 6min part of the video
Try these 2 tools;
1. Thread: [TOOL][All devices & OS] Fastboot Commander [v.1.1]
Download: Fastboot Commander v1.1
or
2. Thread: [UTILITY] Android Flasher
Download: Android Flasher v1.72
thanks very much! will try it
Don't you need Radio-Off to flash radio?
S-off and ENG S-off is for roms only I think.

You require s-off to flash custom ROMs and kernels. You require ENG S-off to flash a radio.
Edit: To quote from the above thread "After running this tool, you can flash any ROM and kernel to your device using ClockworkMod"
To quote from the same thread FAQ:
"Q: Why is this Radio Tool, does it flash a radio?
- From end user's view, it has nothing to do with radios, the name comes from the S-OFF technique this tool uses."
"Q: I tried to flash a radio, but it says not allowed!
- You will also need ENG S-OFF to flash radios, because ENG S-OFF enables fastboot commands"
Maybe pay to actually have a read of actually what your posting first, and if you'd read a few post's earlier, the OP said he was already ENG S-off?

Read on another forum about radio-off. Didn't know eng s-off was the same, sorry.

No, its not the same. I know it can be hard to get your head around it at first, But if you ENG S-off, you will also need S-off first. If you have both, Bootloader will show only ENG S-off.
Edit: assume the op has managed to flash the radio?.. as we haven't heard back.

I read the other thread about Radio-Off and ENG S-off and I think I got a hang of it now
I have both so that's why I got a bit confused. Good to learn new things everyday

what is my phone. pvt3 s-off but not by alphrev

how can my phone be s-off but no alpharev?
i want it alpharev'd so can i ?
your phone is factory S-OFF, you are one of the lucky few, well done. Just flash an Alpharev patched hboot..
thx bor. link to a hboot my friend?

Have a look here:
http://alpharev.nl
is alpha rev needed if you are S-off?
you don't need to use it to S-OFF, but you do need to use it if you want a patched HBOOT/ SPL.
@OP you will NOT be able to just flash the HBOOTs listen on Alpharev. Download the PB99IMG.zip of Bravo_stock, put it on the root of your sd-card (not in any folders), boot into the BOOTLOADER (not fastboot), and when it asks you to update hit yes.

No, it's just completely redundant.
You can read about the different Hboots on that site and download your choice.

[Q] Flashing official RUU on rooted phone

Hi, I was wondering if its possible to flash the official HTC ROM on my rooted DZ. Is it possible through CWM, or a method? I really like to try the stability of certain ROMs, without unrooting and S-OFFing. Thank You!
Yes you can flash an RUU on rooted/s-off phones.
You have to flash it through fastboot/hboot though, not recovery.
And it will overwrite your recovery, and eng hboot (unless you remove those from the RUU)
If you have true s-off, you will stay s-off, but will not be rooted, but you can re-root without too much hassle.

Ah, I see. So I have to put the RUU .IMG files in a PC10IMG.zip file? Thank you for your reply!
no, RUU's come as PC10IMG.zip, or PC10IMG.exe (which contain the zip)
You can find most of them at www.shipped-roms.com

So for the RUUs with .exe, I have to extract the rom.zip, and flash them or?
you can just run the exe, or you can pull the rom.zip from it and flash that however you want.

*Maybe* it depends on what version you're at, you can't downgrade to a version of the firmware earlier than what you have on there.
Its says Radio-26.13.04.19_M
eMMC boot
Dec 20 2011, 16:17:04
Can that be upgraded?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
thant really isn't the info needed but I understand what you are asking, you would first need to downgrade and then root your phone (as well as get an eng soff bootloader) then upgrade. your best bet is to follow the cyanogen g2 root wiki, just google it. make sure you follow the downgrade process first
