[Q] HTC Clock - Timer - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I just came back from a leadership camp with my fellow students and i was acting as one of the facilitators there. We have played many games, conducting team interviews, public speaking etc.
I was told to monitor the time for each individual students to, say, express their true feelings to everyone in the team for 2 minutes.
I use my Desire HD's timer to play with it. Everytime after 2 minutes, the beep sounds will be on and the next person starts.
I use that tool many times and it went well. However, after using it many times, once the beep sound kicks off. It NEVER turns off. Even after i shut down my phone the alarm still ON. The only way for me to shut the alarm off is to remove its battery. And it back to normal.
I wonder what goes wrong and did anyone here know why this happens? A bug? Possible solutions?
Thank you. =)

Sorry I have to give you a HTC helpdesk like answer
Reset your phone to factory and see if it helps, make backup first of course, if this does not work revert back to stock and see if that is of any help.
regards
Ilan

My Desire is Possessed!

Twice today, my phone has just started playing music on its own... its not a ringtone or an alarm, there is nothing displayed in the notification area, I don't have a music widget on my homepage, and I can't stop it, just turn it down. Both occasions I've had to remove the battery to stop it...
Any clue what its playing at?
P.
Somethibg similar happened to me. Once when phone was ringing I couldnt answer nor I could stop it from ringing, the only way was to remove battery, and the other time I couldnt stop the alarm.
have you tried soft/hard reset?
Not sure how you soft reset?
I'm one of the many that has a phone that won't shutdown, so I can't just switch it off and on again if that is what you mean?
Hard reset may be worth the pain in the longer run I guess, but I'm rarely in the position to have enough time to restore all my contacts, apps etc. Maybe I'll find a day over the bank holiday weekend to reset and reinstall everything, few people seem to suggest that has cured the shutdown issue for them too.
The music was a song, girl singing... not just a ringtone or notification noise, the only music stored on the device is whatever HTC put on it, was just in my pocket first time it happened, 2nd time on table

yeh thats what i meant i had some issues with syncing contacts with google acc and switching phone off and back on solved it,
and how can you tell your phone doesnt switch off? mine with many apps takes a good while about 5 minutes to turn off lol, have you tried waiting that long?
Yes, if I switch off when I go to bed it is still shutting down the following morning, so like 8 hours later... I've not waited longer than that as I usually need the phone again by then! Whatever, it makes it impractical as an off/on fix to any problems. There are a couple of threads regarding this issue but none of the suggested fixes have any effect for me. Perhaps hard reset is the answer.
Mine reset itself in the middle of the night the other day! :|

If I were you I'd have a word with the local priest and watch the exorcist. If your phone starts spewing pea soup and swearing at you.... PANIC

My Phone is Possessed

The other day I took my phone out of my pocket and set it down. I watched as it unlocked itself, opened a new text message, and began typing gibberish. I could see the letters on the keyboard popping up and then moving around before settling on a letter. It got through about three gibberish words before a phone call came through and the phone began ringing.
I have had this happen before (gibberish texts sent to people) but have never caught it in the act. It seems to happen when an event is happening on the phone - either an incoming call or an alarm going off. It's like some instructions are being sent in the phone internally but are being manifested through input on the touch screen or into the Google Voice SMS app.
Anyone else see anything similar or know what might be going on?
I'm running unrooted with the latest OTA updates.

That is the most intense thing I have ever heard ever.
I'd root that baby. Maybe an Android "virus"?

ok, first off...
secondly, your thread title alone is tempting enough for me to post a reaction.
thirdly, maybe there's a delay in your screen touch input? or maybe someone has remote access into your evo? (this is going to make me sound dumb and ignorant, but please bear with me).. i know there are ways to get access into iphones to control them via commands through text messages. maybe that's happening with your evo?? again, i'm almost embarrassed to even be entertaining this idea since android is quite locked down in its nature, but it's the closest thing i could think of as a possible cause besides paranormal activity.
...which, in and of itself, sounds so awesome and creepy.
I had similiar things happen when using any custom rom based off the new ota..
Its something with the screen sensitivity they changed for the ppl who were having grounding issues..its the only thing I can think of..
I think I also have a paranormal situation of my own! Well maybe, but its very curious... A certain phone number/friend of mine has told me that my phone is calling him while my phone is completely idle. This has happened twice in the last 10 days or so. The first day he missed the call, the second time he was able to answer it and it was dead air. My phone was never touched; it was home alone the first time and it was streaming bluetooth music the second time. I know this sounds absurd, but unless it starts happening more frequently I guess I'll just deal with the mysteriousness of it all.

the ghost would have to use a hot dog for the screen to recognize him/her LOL..
i myself dont believe in ghost but thats trippy.
lol a floating hot dog typing things by its self. WTH I just laughed out loud and nearly woke my wife up. That was funny if you picture it in your head lol.
When i got my first Vogue, it would do that. Randomly resend text, send garbled text, and call people. Without any interaction whatsoever.
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
That is hilarious. I would have freaked out seriously. Is your phone rooted?
My phone is not rooted and was running stock with the latest OTA. I am leaning towards the theory that it is something to do with the latest OTA which addressed the grounding issue.
I enabled a password on my phone. Last night I kept hearing these little noises, like a bug beating its wings in really quick, short durations. I was looking all over before I realized it was coming from my phone. Face down, on my nightstand, it was randomly pressing buttons on the password screen and I was hearing the short vibrations of the tactile feedback. It had done it enough that I was locked out and had to wait 30 seconds.
Something's not right in Evo land.
You definitely need an exorcists.
Since you live in UT, I am sure there lots of Mormon High Priest that can help you out.
Good luck.

[Q] Phone just started playing someone else's conversion!

I was just using my RSS reader to read some tumblr posts. I also was using the standard browser that comes with TW (rooted, but otherwise stock MK3). After I closed all of the open windows in my browser and went back to RSS reader. All of a sudden I hear like a feedback and some words for a second. Then again and I can hear more words, but can't make out what was said. Like 2 words. then again. This happened 5 times in a span of 30 seconds and hasn't happened before or after.
I did not have the speaker turned on, my phone is on mute since I'm at work. I want to say it was an ad that was still loading and didn't close right away. But I don't think what I heard was an ad. I didn't get that impression. It sounded more like crossed wires and I was hearing another persons conversations.
Any thoughts on this? Has anyone else had their phone just start to play someone else's conversation by itself? Do I smash my phone right now in case I have some leaches on my phone? I don't like this at all.

Posible problem. Please confirm.

*Hello everyone! I really can't wait to get my hands on a giulery Huawei Watch but in my country it will be availeble only from November. So i start looking on ebay and Amazon. I found one review that realy concerns me on Amazone. And i quote:
" The Huawei Watch has a major software issue. When the watchface goes in to ambient mode, it often freezes, and the only way to unfreeze it is through a reboot. This happens to me at least 5-6 times each day. When a freeze occurs, the watch hands are stuck on the hour and minute that were showing at the time of the freeze. You can press the crown and the screen brightens, but it doesn't leave ambient mode, and it doesn't return to the correct time. I did a factory reset on mine after one day of use to see if this might fix the problem, but nothing changed. I called Huawei tech support, and this is a known issue. They told me a software fix would be rolled out "soon". I thought I could tolerate it until they got it fixed, but this is driving me crazy. Last night, it locked up three times inside of a 30 minute period. I find myself clicking the crown frequently thorughout the day, not because I want to know what time it is or because I want to use an advanced feature, but only to see if the watch has frozen again. What good is a watch that won't tell time?"
So, please advice if enyone has this issue. Thanks and sorry for my english.

I have had the Huawei watch for over a week and have never experienced this at all!
Everything works perfect, and I have not had any issues whatsoever.
Here the same... more than a week using the Huawei Watch and I did not encountered any problem.
I haven't had this problem either. But, I did have to return mine because of another problem. I would not buy through Ebay, stick with an retailer like BB or Amazon so you can exchange it easily if there is a problem.

No issues like that here, isolated incident
No such issues here after 5 days of use here as well.
Only 'issue' experienced: Lost connection to phone once and wouldn't reconnect. rebooted both and worked instantly.
Here's the deal.

If you use certain watchmaker watch faces, since they currently don't support this watch, I have noticed that effect on certain watch faces in ambient mode. Never with the one's the watch shipped with. I do not know if any other watches have round amoled displays so you have to guess which one to use with the watch, I chose first Moto and then a LG square face, both would freeze in ambient mode, so for the meantime I have stopped using watchmaker until the developer updates it to support our watch. To bad, I paid for the full version of the app, before I discovered this. But with any of the ones that come with the watch, never will happen.

I have absolutely same issue. Just bought Huawei Watch and immediately first day it froze in ambient mode. I did restart/factory reset, nothing helped, it happens every day, sometimes every hour. The problem is the ambient mode itself. I figured out how you can unfreeze it if this occurs even without restart: on your phone go in Android wear app and in Settings turn on/off function Always-on-screen. After this it works again, but this does not fix that issue that it freezes and the time freezes as well, thus the watch is useless at this moment. Now I use watch without ambient mode and it seems the watch works pretty fine. Please let me know, once someone knows the root case and how to permanently fix this.
There are a few other people complaining about this too in the various forums. I returned my first watch because of this.
In the meantime i bought the watch from Usa. I install many apps and i use watchmaker premium with a superb watch face that i modified and name it huawei watch 2015. I cant say if is freezing in dim mode but i have some ocasional problem with certan app 3 part. Android wear is a great system for notification but is crushing a lot. I can use my watch at full capacity but i have to restart it like 2 time a day to function well. I like this weatch to much to mind that. Install task manager for wear and restart the watch one time and you shoud be fine.

My huawei watch reboot itself 2-3 times every hour when using WatchMaker Premium Watch Face and the wake gesture works only 1 time when activated
The OP post fault was locking up (had this issue too on my first watch)
This post is not related but I would say uninstall WatchMaker Premium Watch Face, use a stock watch face.
If the problem disappears contact the WatchMaker vendor.
A faulty application has nothing to do with the watch.
Only had 1 reboot in a month. I consider that more than acceptable!
Good luck to you!

Question Bug or Rogue App?

For the past...3 days...my new Google Pixel 6 Pro has decided that 7 am is a good wake up time for me (the cats don't mind, they get fed earlier). It's not an alarm though, there's nothing to disable on the screen, and talking to the assistant to "disable alarm" does nothing. It starts at 7 sharp and crescendos until it ends at 7:02 exactly.
I looked through threads, and couldn't find anything similar, so am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?
I know I had something similar, and there have definitely been similar reports previously in this section, although it's not Pixel 6-specific, and might not even be Pixel-specific at all. Check the "Bedtime" tab at the bottom right of the Clock app. Although in that case, it did show up as a separate alarm as well when I had it enabled.
Thanks for the thougth - that wasn't even enabled yet on my phone. Go figure, yesterday (my birthday as it were), I woke up on my own at 3 am and it never went off. This morning though? Back to the shenanagins. At this point I'm about ready to throw my hands in the air and just SET my normal alarm to 7!
As much of a pain it can be, I think if I were in your shoes for much longer, I would consider a factory reset. Either that or we could trade phones - my wake up time is 7 AM most mornings. j/k

Do you use Tasker? If so, I think the "Use Reliable Alarms" setting needs to be disabled, although this may relate to another clock/alarm issue and not the one you're having. Can try it anyway.

Sadly, not any more. I had previously removed Join (by I think the same author) because it meant going through adb and even then it didn't always work properly.
So, set my "normal" alarm to 7 am tomorrow. We'll see if that overrides the annoying alarm with my normal alarm. If so, I guess I just...deal with getting up at 7 am? Yay? My writing partner will appreciate that if it means I get more writing done...
When I flashed a13 beta 4.1 , I rebooted the device after root and this clicking sound came out of my p6pro, with no way to stop it. It got louder as it went too, scared me a bit
It was the alarm that must've been backed up to my Gmail or something. All I could do was flash the firmware again.

Does the one that you don't intentionally have use a different alarm sound, or anything else different about it (what the icon and/or alarm screen when it's going off)?
Yeah, finish Game of Thrones, will ya?

Yeah, it's got a beep that steadily increases in volume and frequency. BOTH went off at 7 am this morning, with me disabling MY alarm in relatively short order (have to solve a math problem) but the rogue one going until 7:02.
Haha, I wish I was that successful. I'd be happy to just break even on a book at this point!

When you got your phone did you install your apps from a backup, maybe from another phone? Also, do you have an old calendar event that may be triggering this?
Yes, I installed from my old phone, a Motorola One 5G Ace. It didn't really do it as a backup, which I thought was odd, but paired the two phones somehow.
I have no events on my calendar at 7 am. Any of my calendars, actually. I just went through them all and checked. I don't think I have any truly oddball apps - though I did have to switch to one new app with the transition to this phone. Pure Calendar Widget was no longer available, so I went to the paid version of Business Calendar. That doesn't appear to have any alarms associated with it.
I'm really at a loss. And as much as it would annoy me, I'm debating the factory reset. But if I restore from a backup, wouldn't I just be restoring the same problem back into place?

If you installed/transferred from an old phone, I'm wondering if you have an app or setting or something that got transferred over that is causing this. Maybe a system app that doesn't show up in the user app list or something.
Yeah, I wouldn't restore from an old phone or backup. Seen people have problems when doing this. A clean flash, imo, is always best when setting up a new phone, including clean installing all your apps. At least it will eliminate any problems that may have been caused by restoring old app data, etc...
See, part of my issue is I don't want to lose voicemails etc. My Mom died 2 months ago, so I want to make sure I keep those messages as long as I can...
I guess I go back to removing apps that I don't use consistently until I find the one causing issues.
I'll find out in several hours for sure, but I think I have been completely missing the mark blaming my phone (and it goes to show my hearing perception is fading) ... I got a new atomic alarm clock at the end of last month. After the beeping alarm went off this morning and my head happened to be turned in a different direction, I went over to that alarm clock and the alarm was turned on. Sigh. I've turned it off, but I bet you that solves my issues.
Boy do I feel like a moron now...
Not much help but when it goes off go to settings and look on notifications and should show rouge app that way maybe also you could try do not disturb mode but alarms could over ride it

Wow, glad you found the cause. That's all that matters.
A couple of years ago, for weeks I kept getting woken up by a noise which I was assuming was related to our cat (even though it was a new and regular noise). I finally found it was our spare refrigerator's icemaker accidentally got turned on, and I don't have that fridge hooked up to the water, so it kept trying to make ice out of air, and that fridge is on exactly the opposite side of the wall I sleep on. Not the same thing as your situation, but man, now the one or two times after that I heard that noise, I went straight to the spare fridge, and it was always that the icemaker accidentally got turned on, but it doesn't happen anymore, as we both now know to double-check that "arm" that turns it on after we're done in that fridge's freezer.
That alarm didn't go off this morning (shocker, right?) ... but I must have had a night terror that woke me up earlier, because I SWEAR I experienced my "normal alarm" (having to solve a math problem to turn off the alarm) and when I looked at the clock it was 6:43. I had adjusted my normal alarm back to 8:15. Needless to say I was up far before that point!
Great, so this stuff is driving me so nuts it's freaking me out in my sleep!
