Phantom Alarms (Alarm goes off randomly & won't stop)

All,
I am running the v23 ROM and have the following problem.
I had an alarm set for 07:15am Pacific Time US. I got a SIM error on my t-mobile service (phone was showing gprs, but no support) for a while. Looked to be a t-mobile issue. Anyhow that got resolved. I disabled the alarm (no bell shone on home screen, alarm1 disabled, alarm 2 disabled). However it didn't really disable. So now I am in Florida and it goes off at 10:00am every day. There is nowhere that I can find to reset this. It is kinda like having a phone with Tourette's syndrome it shouts and screams at immorpotune times. Any ideas how to locate the offending alarm and nuke it?

Dang. That sounds like the "phantom alarm" issue with 6.0. This is the first case I've heard of in 6.1... I don't use rickwyatt's ROM, so I don't know what apps it has included. Does it use Oxios Alarms?

Sorry, I had to let it out. I'm sick and tired of this DAMN ALARM myself. Seriously, it starts SCREAMING, LITERALLY at the most random times especially in important settings. Last week, I was in University in my class when a group was presenting and out of nowhere, my phone starts going crazy. It was so embarassing because it's so LOUD and the entire class kept staring at me and i couldn't get it to switch off. Eventually, I turned it off but then 15 mins later, it happened again. It's honestly getting very annoying cause it keeps happening randomly even when the alarm's off.
I know how to fix it and I did fix it but it still happens. I have no idea how to get rid of it forever because honestly, it's the most annoying thing when it starts going crazy in class/meetings or anywhere other than your house.
If I find a fix for it, I'll post it here.

I think this is an error in the programming , but there may be a way to (band-aid) fix it. Meaning it will come back but you can continually fix it using this program. Go and find SK Tools (lite version) and theres an option to clear out alarms and notifications. That should (band-aid) fix it.

Yeah, That's what I've done but it keeps happening still. It doesn't happen for a few days then bam, it comes back. It really is annoying. Oh well...

I am going to see what I can do by checking out the registry and hopefully I will get back to you guys asap.

ok, guys I don't know how many of you are experiencing this Phantom Alarm issue but it seriously is bothering me.
I'm running Kavana's 6.1 ROM and used SK Tools to delete notifications from the notifications queue. Even though, I deleted all alarms - I still experienced the same issue today morning. Instead of 8 to 10 popups, i had only 2 so atleast, that's better but seriously it's PRETTY ANNOYING!!!
I'm going to look into this and try posting a fix. If someone came across a permanant fix, please post here. Thanks.

OMG! I just checked the notifications queue again. The DAMN alarms are back again. I just deleted them last night. Jeez
So far, I've only found one fix and that is using SKTools. I don't know how to get rid of these for good.
I'm going to try again, delete them - reboot and see if they come back. Hopefully not. If not, I'll have to look for an another way to fix this damned bug.
EDIT: WHT THE HELL?! I deleted them again and same issue, their back. AHH, this is really getting to me because it goes off in my university classes, during lectures/exams (even when the phone is on silent) and even if the alarm is turned off. It's happened before so it's not the ROM, I have Kavana's ROM and I've experienced this with WM6 as well. Ok, I seriously need another way to fix this. Yeah, I know I can shut the phone but what about the other times I have it on? This is annoying.

I wish someone could get to the bottom of this. I heard about the problem with WM6.0, so I never set alarms, just in case.
I've already used the alarms once with WM6.1, figuring it was a non-issue, but I'll definitely wait on using them again until someone says this issue is resolved.
So far, I haven't experienced any phantom alarms with Ricky v23 yet.

Bro, I'm runnning Kavana's ROM for a while now and this started happening since 2 weeks. I never had this issue before and I've checked everything and it just won't go away. I shouldn't have set any DAMN alarms. It's so damn annoying.
I'm still looking for the fix. I've only come across only one fix so far and it's the SkTools and for some reason, even if I delete them - it comes back again.

I don't think this issue is as prevalent in 6.1 as it was in 6.0. I'm using Kavana's 080408 which comes with Oxios Alarms embedded in the ROM. I haven't had to delete the Notification Queues in SKTools once. However, when I did delete the Queues in 6.0, it fixed my alarm bug permanently.

Ok guys, good news. I just checked my notifications queue in SKTools and the damn bug is GONE and hope it's gone forever. Give this a try - Here's the instructions:
Phantom Alarm Bug
There is a reported issue of multiple alarms going off even though the alarm is turned off in Settings. There is no known permanent fix at this point.
Phantom alarms can be cleaned up by following these instructions:
1. Load SKTools Smartphone Edition (Clean up and uninstaller utility)
2. Select View -> Maintenance -> Notifications Queue
3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and there should be multiple entries already checked for “Clock.exe”.
4. Select Action -> Delete marked
5. Do a soft reset (turn off then back on).

Wiki'd....until your alarm goes off again

That would be wonderful, but when I download the SK Tools, it comes in as an invalid zip file. Grrrrrr

Been running kavana wm 6.1 since feb with no phantom alarm problems. I would get the phantom alarms within 1 week of flashing the old 6.0 rom. I change what time I get up almost every day. Plus I change the second alarm maybe 3times a week. It has never acted up so far.... I don't really use the reminders for appointments maybe that's why. Maybe you did not flash the rom before you upgraded. If you synched with your computer and then erased the memory after upgrading to the current rom. I believe that would fix any problems you were having. Ricky's has a nice keyboard selector on first boot so you might want to upgrade.

My phone running WM5 started doing it too. Never used the alarms until a recent trip, and unfortunately I chose the Dog Bark sound. Man it's annoying. (which is the whole point of an alarm, but it shouldn't go off if it's set to disabled)

Not so phantom just late?
Im using 6.1 040408 remade by rickywatt and my alarms seem to wake up late...? I set the alarm and the icon is on the screen the phone is on normal profile with the volume on not silent or anything and then its off to sleep, only to discover the next morning that my alarm was a no show... sometimes as soon as I press a key the alarm starts ringing... other times nothing. I checked out the posts on alarm problems but i have not found this problem.... any ideas?

S-K-Tools Worked to Remove Phantom Alarm
I just bought "SKTools Best maintenance toolkit" to remove a Phantom Alarm from my HTC Touch Pro2 that was going off every morning at 4am...and am happy to report that it worked.
Once the software was downloaded and installed I ran a clean-up of the Notifications Queue to "delete duplicates". Note that the free trial version wasn't enough. As reported below, "Clock.exe" is the correct item name to delete, but in my case, there was no time showing up in the time column for the phantom alarm so I couldn't tell which one it was.
Finally, I've been very impressed with all the other stuff I can easily do with this product to clean the garbage out of my phone. Hopefully this will translate into better performance in the days ahead.

ALARM BUG - Daylight savings time!

So last night I was told 100 times to set my clocks forward for daylight savings.. I have clocks that auto sync so I didn't worry about it. At 10:00 pm last night i set my alarm for work to be 8:10 am. I go to sleep, i hear my alarm go off and when i look at the clock it says 9:10 am. **** now i am late... I double check when i set the alarm and sure enough it says 8:10 am.
This is a major bug for people who rely on their phones to keep track of time. It's evident to me that when I set the alarm, it calculates the total time between now and the time I tell it to go off and starts counting down. This is a flawed design, it should check if time has been shifted due to daylight savings by syncing with what time it is and checking if it's still on schedule. Now im pissed.

I have my two work alarms (one backup) set to be on all the time. If it did count from when it was set, when would mine count from? I've had it set since Jan 29.
Also, you just assumed all would go perfectly during the first dst transition on a new smartphone platform? Why didn't you set two alarms, one an hour before just in case? I'm sure risking waking up too early would've been better.
I understand being angry, but it should be directed at yourself.

i would lean towards the above poster as well. Apple had daylight saving issues in iOS 4... where they didn't in iOS 3, so yea, given all the smartphone issues in general, i wouldn't rely on daylight savings on smartphones. i personally never use the alarm clock on my phone, i actually have an alarm clock, but to each their own.

sure it is a bug and it does need fixing, but in saying that you can't ultimately blame the phone. i think someone tried to sue apple in the united states for this exact same issue and having the same result as the user above (i think they got fired, though it would have probably been a history of being late, but still, they tried none the less) and that failed miserably...

With all the problems Apple had with the daylight saving, one would think that Microsoft is doing everything possible to avoid such problems.
There is absolutely not the user to blame.
I do not buy a smartphone with thousands of features to have it failing at being a mere alarm clock. It's not that the daylight saving is someting new so all the MS-staff would be caught napping

How ignorant am I, i thought daylight saving time was just a UK thing. Personally i think we all look at this issue the wrong way, if i had my way we would just leave the clicks alone. Daylight saving does nothing but mess people up.

That's right, neither we need it nor does it make any sense nowadays.
But as long as it's there and we have to consider it I still want my phone to wake me up at the right time

This also happened to me. Yes it is a new platform. But lets not forget that Microsoft is not the first producer of smart-phone software. There were many before it that have made this mistake and Microsoft should have taken all of that into account and learned from their competitors mistakes. IMHO this makes them worst than their competitors in this area of the platform.
Now here is how this is Microsoft's fault:
When you set an alarm in WP7, it asks you what time you would like to be awoken. IDK about you, but when I set a time on an alarm, I assume it is going to go off at that exact time. Upon seeing this method of setting the alarm, wouldn't you assume that if you set the alarm for 8:00AM that it would wake you up at 8:00AM?
Instead, the method Microsoft uses here should have been represented with "wake me up in X hours and X minutes." So they represented the alarms layout with the above method and coded it with this method. That's like having a Murcielago with a Geo Metro engine in it. Completely deceiving. Also, not everyone sets two alarms like you do. Some of us believe that if we pay $500 for a device that can route you from L.A. to New York, then it should have no problem waking you up. Do you have a backup vehicle also? What about a backup job? T.V?
Like the OP, I would have assumed that all would go well also.
After all, when you first powered up your device, didn't you assume that all would go well upon boot? Surely you didn't think that you would enter a boot loop, right?
Same concept with the alarm.

My wifes old 30GB brown Zune was bricked for a day by a DST error, so it could be worse.
My HTC Touch Pro 2 updated just fine as did all of my computers.
Yet another benefit of Sprint launching the HTC Arrive on 3/20 - hopefully any DST issues will be resolved by the time it rolls around again this fall.

The guy set his alarm for 8:00am. When the phone transitioned the time change, it moved everything ahead an hour, I guess including the alarm. Like has been posted several, several times in this thread; DST issues are nothing new, and are on every platform. And I'll say it again; if he and you reallly wanted to get up on time, you would've made damn sure it happened. Blindly trusting a piece of technology without a backup is not very bright.

An alarm is there to wake me up on time -no matter if it's a clock, a wife or a phone. When this alarm function doesn't work then they shouldn't have implemented it in first place. But the alarm function is there so I expect it to work.
Never had a backup-alarm for my phone since 1998 and I've never been let down until now.

Well I've yet to see it proven that that's how MS coded the alarms. I'm not saying it's not true, I'm just seeing a lot of people claiming, without anyone proving.
I didn't change my alarm, and it woke me up this morning with no problem at all.
Again, if you're that careless that you trust just one alarm on a new device to wake you up, then it's not really that important to you to get up. Either you hate your job or had a bad court date to attend to or whatever, either way, you didn't want to get up that badly.

Common problem on all mobile OSs.
Solution ; don't depend on it.

Still, something as trivial as an alarm should work.

I don't get it either. Been using the same battery operated alarm clock with temp gauge (needed it for the field in the army), since about 2000. Gets new batteries about once a year. I don't trust anything with software to work 100% of the time.

Rogers SGH-I747M: Screen turns on by itself after pressing power button

I've done a search for this problem, but haven't found a solution to this yet.
I'm running the stock rom w/root. It didn't do this when I first got it, but it's doing it more and more as time goes by. It's starting to drive me nuts, especially at night since my phone is my alarm as well. Doesn't seem to matter if the phone is charging or not.
The screen will flicker on and off a few times in a row, then stay dark for awhile then resume the on/off behavior out of nowhere. I'm not receiving texts or emails when this happens.
I have checked my account syncs, and nothing is set to automatic. Never had this behavior on my SGII LTE running ICS.

Your title made me chuckle.
I did experience some random screen wake ups while on stock that sort of just resolved themselves. Try rebooting, and then try to uninstall any new apps you've installed to see if one is causing this.

Thanks for the suggestion. Rebooting was obvious as I've done that many times. I did go through a bunch of apps and removed them, then reinstalled one by one. So far the problem has gone away, I've yet to identify which app might have caused it though.

Defective Pixel XL or Defective Android 7.1?

I have a huge problem with my new Pixel XL. I have had it for 3 days now, and each night I plug it into a wall outlet. When I wake up in the morning, my phone's screen is black, the device is noticeably warm, and my alarm clock never goes off!
This morning though, I was able to grab a logcat (see attached). I just got up a bit ago (late, because my f**king alarm did not go off again), so I'm going to start grep'ing through it to try and find a root cause.
I had somewhat similar issues with my Nexus 6P - I feel like the hardware was shot on it though, the only thing that I am doing that is probably "different" from most folks is that I probably have more accounts on on my phone. I did catch something in logcat that showed that the Pixel was freaking out because of too many log messages :s
Any ideas?

I did one when I bought the phone and I am actually doing one right now! This reset has been going for like 10 minutes though!!!
I wonder what the deal is? Maybe wiping each file on the phone individually (since N introduces file-level encryption now?).
Biting my nails waiting for something to happen

Meh, I switched to the Recovery Mode based factory reset so I can at least see things happen :|

Use alarm clock extreme + timer and your issues will stop with the Alarm not going off. What app are you using by the way? I'm assuming the app is not made to wake the phone properly from doze mode which is common with the new Android Os's.

I'm using the stock clock app's alarm clock, which hasn't ever failed me before. I shouldn't have to install a 3rd party app just to get my alarm to go off though!
So earlier today, I attempted a factory reset from the settings menu. It appeared to start wiping the phone, but it hung on the Google splash screen with the 4 bouncing balls. I let it run for probably 30 mins - I drove to the store, ran some errands, came back and there didn't appear to be any progress.
Being the Linux freak that I am, I wanted to see what was going on under the hood, I couldn't get a shell over adb so I rebooted the phone and initiated a factory reset from the stock recovery. This time, i watched it wipe the phone in a matter of a minute or so. I then re-flashed the stock image and re-setup the phone. So far so good, but we'll see if it s**ts itself again tonight. If it does, I'm going to be seriously pissed, because for $1K my phone should "just work".

I assumed you were using third party my bad. Yeah sounds like you had an issue with the os to me then. Good luck sir!

Is the phone stock, modded, rooted? Just interested to know.

SO this crash DEFINITELY seems to happen overnight, everytime when I enable Do Not Disturb! My phone just takes takes a crap in the middle of the night. This sucks!!!

Toast popups stay on my screen for 10+ seconds long, each... Unrooted Android 10

I don't know exactly what I did that made this start happening, but right now every time a toast message pops up it stays on the screen for over 10 seconds. If there are other messages queued up then it will display all of them one after another each for over 10 seconds. I did a Google search and could not find a solution. Has this happened to anyone else?
I've tried everything short of a factory reset. I rebooted and safe mode and it still happens. I reset all of the application preferences, as far as permissions and that sort of thing goes, that fixed a few issues I've been experiencing but the toast problem persists.
Is this a bug? is there a solution? Can you adjust the timeout for toast messages? Are there any third party apps that change this setting on an unrooted phone that I unwittingly may have used?
Will I be forced to do a full factory reset to fix this problem? It's really annoying, haha!

I did everything including a factory reset and those toast messages still did the same thing, so I am thinking it definitely is an OS system upgrade problem!!! It is so annoying !!

I still don't understand if this happens on everybody's Pixel 3 or if it's just ours. if it's just a few people then there has to be a common thing that caused it to start doing this. I haven't thought about it too much but my first suspicion was SystemUITuner. did you by chance install that and change anything using it?
I can't think of anything else that I have had to enable permissions with ADB for on here that would have messed with the display settings.
I've been rooting every phone I owned since cupcake. usually owning more than one at a time because well that just makes your power level go up exponentially ... through carelessness and not reading what I needed to before purchasing my Verizon Pixel 3 XL, This is the first phone I've had in my life for more than a month or so that was a daily driver without root.
my point is, I really can't think of a reason why the timeout for all toast messages system wide would suddenly change to be 30 seconds long instead of three. I would have bet on it that that is something that you need root to alter. ??*

looking at Google's past release schedule and also starting to hear rumors about Android 11 (they did put a system image up on Google's page but you cannot install it without an unlocked bootloader), we should start hearing official announcements about it soon, with beta1 probably end of April beginning of May.
Even if there are a few not annoying bugs I think it would be worth the upgrade to get rid of these toast messages covering all kinds of stuff that I need to be reading NOW! not in (in the case of three or four toasted pop-up great after each other) 2 minutes later when I've already Ben distracted and can't remember what I was wanting to be able to tap on that was under the eternal-1 toast message timeout.
it's very interesting to me that if you Google this problem there's maybe one or two results. I'm very curious what we are doing to cause this issue. if you or anyone from the future is reading this and knows This information please leave a little response or just post a link it, so maybe I can die happy having finally solved this riddle

I stumbled upon this after googling the same issue.
I'm not sure if we had the same issue, but I just noticed that it was the "Time to take action (Accessibility timeout)" option, under Settings > Accessibility that made my toasts be long than 3 seconds.
Although it should be on "Default" by default (duh), so if you didn't change this, it must be something else.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Oh my, thank you so much, I had the same problem and this solved it!!!

I wish there was a way to make it shorter than 3 seconds but from my research it can not be changed can it?

Just an FYI, coming from AT&T prepaid 6 years during the covid party the depth AT&T is it has taken me 9 months to move to postpay. It is a corporation a complete morons above customer support. All my problems are met with an upsell attempt and I have bit once or twice in return I was kindly bitten all this to say that they put a Motorola one 5G Ace 64 4G ram in my hand and I have the same issue except might hang for 20 to 45 seconds it seems like 90 seconds! May well be. Obviously they're not translucent but the desktop or any operation underneath it will take a finger command if you know where the hell to push. I did not get it from Amazon but I was looking to upgrade to the 128 prior and post this phone and one of the main salesman there with Motorola America which of course is not a Motorola product it's just a Motorola name. The ruination of a long-standing pioneer groundbreaking company! and he wanted to know more information from me and wants me to become a free paid intern or some crap and help them figure out what's going on so there you go? I am sure I am not the only one and just as sure as I am of that, I am sure that the people that make them and sell them and talk about them all day to potential customers or two customers have no freaking idea what their products do.!!

dude... thank you.
i dunno how leaving a toast message on top of the buttons you need TO take action helps but that is what caused, likely, or at least what corrected the issue for me.

I can't find this accesability option on my note 10 + g975fd bubi know it was some kind of setting somewhere because I remember turning it on trying to see some message it waS throwing while I was setting up some Tasker task. Which makes me think it might have been turned on by option for a tasker action but I'll be damned if I can find it again. It's actually nice most of the time but lately it's been really annoying to me because it shows over the keyboard and most of the time an OK or cancel prompt. And like previously mentioned if there are ten of them its quite a long time to wait. And I also turned something on that does a toast every time an intent is launched so you can see how this has multiplied the issue. I think it's one of those situations like (in Tasker you can say launch so n so app, one of the potions is to make the app launch a new instance and another is to have the app not appear in recents. That's all fine gravy for that instance but nobody anywhere ever says that from now on any time you launch that app that it will launch a new instance and it won't appear in recents) whether it's in Tasker or from the Launcher or if you just switch to another app and back. It quickly becomes an issue when you are trying to enter passwords or watch Netflix and do something else real quick. And if you don't put 2 together with 2 because you didn't notice right a way it can be a brain bender trying to figure the little problem out. I'm thinking that's what I have done is set some obscure option for God knows what experimental task and now its stuck that way. But it's really not something I want to bother joã (Tasker de"sorry for spelling") with and he may not know anyway. But thanks for the thread and any other suggestions would be appreciated.
