Noob questions!
I perm rooted with the visionary method and have S-off.
Before permrooting I had visionary.sh run the script to automatically overclock me to 1200mhz at boot.
Now that I have perm root how do I make the overclock stick? I can still overclock with gscript, but running setcpu doesn't gime me the option to go over 806mhz without running gscript first. I just wanna boot up and have the clock speed set.
Secondly, what is fastboot and how can I implement it... I'm assuming (from what I've read) it just drastically cuts down the boot time, which would be awesome.
Thanks!
1) I think you need to install a kernel that is capable of overclocking. Try BaconBits in the dev section.
2) Fastboot has nothing to do with boot times. It is a protocol by which you can communicate with your phone to flash different partitions when there are new radios, bootloaders, kernels, etc.

baconbits is the most stable overclocking kernel right now in my preference.
but i believe youre referring to fast boot as in what is used in the desire z roms, correct? where your phone is put into this "hybernating stage" once turned off and takes about 4 seconds to turn on. is that what youre referring to?

Yep, that's the fastboot I meant.
Is there a way to install bacon bits without a computer yet?
If you want to overclock you just have to flash an overclocking kernel there's two available.
Fastboot is only available on the desire z rom which you can also flash, but you'll lose stock FroYo

Have you tried installing the ROM Manager app? There's a repository in there that allows you to install the Bacon Bits without having to use a computer. That's how I did it.
As for your overclock, assuming you're on a permanent root, just use SetCPU and check the check-box that says "Set on boot." Every time you boot your phone, whatever setting it was at will automatically set it to that specific clockspeed. I also recommend using profiles in SetCPU to manage your overclocking shenanigans.
This is a guide I’ve put together from my (in)experience with flashing ACS. It mainly comes from the replies of k0nane and theimpaler747 in the SyndicateROM thread. However, since there’s so many pages that can be tricky to search for idiots like me who just throw up random posts for others to solve their problems, I thought it would be good to summarize it along with anything I happened to notice from flashing a couple of Epics. Consider it the FIBI guide.
Step 1: Read all posts by k0nane on page 1 of the SyndicateROM thread before doing a damn thing! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976194
Instructions for CWM are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
Useful hotkeys:
Download mode - Hold down 1 on the keyboard when you power on the phone
Recovery mode - Hold Volume down+camera+power to power on the phone
Reset phone - Hold volume up+camera+power. This generally works when the phone is completely locked up.
Flashing:
When going between versions of ACS, check their notes to see if you need to do anything other than flash. You can go between some versions without wiping or losing anything. You can also flash between standard and fully loaded without wiping or losing anything.
Sdcard doesn’t mount in CWM, but shows up in Android - Format the sdcard in Android.
Boot hangs on the Samsung screen – Redownload, format your SD card and reflash
Boot screen flashed between different things – Wipe cache & data 3x and reflash
Journaling:
Enable journaling – In CWM, go to backup and restore. Backup, then restore using that backup. Journaling enabled!
Make it so you don’t need journaling – Keep a copy of the ROM on your phone at all times. Should you ever have data corruption, jump into CWM and flash the ROM again. It’s quick, no wipes needed.
If you restore a backup made in CWM and want to have non-journaled again – Flash the ROM after restoring.
Other issues:
FC in a specific app – Go into manage applications and clear data for that app
FC in several apps – In CWM > Advanced, try fixing permissions. Can also clear caches, and if that doesn’t work, reflash the ROM.
If you have any major issues that seem unresolved, Odin everything back to stock with EB13, format your sdcard in android, re-download everything, re-install CWM, re-read all of k0nane’s posts on page 1 and try again.
If you want ads back – Install adfree from market and hit revert
If your phone is freezing often - Flash either the vision kernel found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012136 or the Twilight 1.0.4 kernel found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12504067&postcount=5904. I haven't had the freezing issues, but I'd recommend trying the vision kernel first as it has some other potential benefits.
Recommended tweaks and add ons:
Fugutweaks – This will smooth out a few random things on the phone. I’ve noticed more responsiveness on the lock screen and icons on my homescreen. Small, but nice. Install the ZIP in CWM, file can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981125
Impaled Keyboard – Makes the keyboard less likely to skip keys. Still have some, but they’ve gone down a lot. I use the Speed Demon Edition, still had a fair amount of dropped keys with standard one. Install the ZIP in CWM, file can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025533&page=18
SetCPU – Handles scaling the CPU and overclocking. Use ondemand setting for smooth performance. If you have issues when the phone is idle or it doesn’t wake up properly, set minimum CPU to 200Mhz. Free for XDA members, APK can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
Battery Calibration – If you want to calibrate your battery without going into CWM, grab the app from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867. It’s now available from the Android Market.
Vision Kernel – Pretty much Twilight + gives you 1.4Ghz and Voodoo colour which improves balance when brightness is at 100%. Flash in CWM, wipe dalvik. Kernel can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012136
And a final note that I'm now about 10 hours into testing... if you are using fully loaded and want better battery life, really try standard. It very easy to switch, it flashes over fully loaded with no wipes or data loss, the only thing you lose is that it resets your homescreens. But really, this is day 1 of it for me and 10 hours in I'm at 62% battery remaining. Usually by this time I'd be around 20%.
Great info! I recently installed the newest SyndicateROM 1.1.0 on my Epic and the only trouble I had was with the included Twilight 1.1.0 kernel. My phone kept freezing and I would have to pull the battery to reboot.
This is an issue that has been documented with the ROM and is said to be caused by the kernel and its adjustments to voltage and overclocking, not all phones handle this well.
To fix the issue I flashed the Twilight 1.0.4 kernel, as suggested by k0nane, and I am about a day into testing without any freezing issues. The only problem is that the Twilight 1.0.4 kernel has a known issue with video recording and it does not work.
Let me say that the performance increase from installing SyndicateROM and ext4 are well worth the trouble.
Have you tried the vision kernel? That might fix your freezing without breaking video recording.
is your brightness at 100%??? what was the difference between standard and fully loaded again??

What does the brightness have to do with anything? And for the differences, here's from the SyndicateROM thread:
k0nane said:
SyndicateROM Standard includes LauncherPro. All Samsung and Sprint bloatware are completely gone!
SyndicateROM Fully Loaded - the choice of ACS team lead rjmjr69 - features TouchWiz instead of LauncherPro, and adds in Social Network Sync, Facebook, BuddiesNow, Program Monitor, and the stock live wallpapers. All the rest of the bloat is still gone!

The brightness for battery life.
No, brightness is not at 100%. I generally use 0-25%, though I'll kick it to 100% when viewing photos or when I'm outside. Even with the lower brightness setting, I'd always have to recharge in the afternoon. I'm still doing a lot of testing for ways of having the battery last longer, today is longest it's ever gone for. I'll be adding more information when I feel like I've got a solid way of having it all setup.
OP, could you add the freezes and "terrible battery life" solutions? Namely, flash the kernel in the second post or VisionKernel. It's the most annoying one to answer multiple times daily.
Thanks much for this! Hopefully people read it.
I want to get the battery situation on my phone sorted out before adding it to the list. I was having pretty bad battery life, but switching to standard and removing gallery has made my phone last all day for the first time ever. I want to do some experiments between setcpu options, juicedefender and the vision kernel to see what works best. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have a more detailed idea as to how to get better battery life.
But for now, anyone having battery issues my current setup is using ACS standard and replacing gallery with quickpic. This has doubled my battery life.
Hey wassup everyone, first time writer long time viewer, and first let me say thanks to all the great people that have provided us with great roms for the epic and the syndicate team as well, Im currently using a Epic 4G with sindicate rom freeze 1.1.0 and i must say its awesome, aside from my battery dying really quickly when im runing it at 1.3ghz its actually great, usually i end up operatig it at 800mhz to actually save some battery life last me for 3 days at a time, and when i have it pluged in or show off my awesome epic i raise it back upto 1.3ghz, big difference cuz when i raise it up there my battery drains rather quickly like 3 percent a minute or so.....
well anyways now that, thats says, I have CWM 3..0.5 with syndicaterom twilight 1.1.0 and ive been sucessful at loading custom boot animation, but one thing is that im having trouble is loading the animation with sound? any idea onhow i can od that?, what are the steps, cuz so far ive been using root explorer to transfer and change bootanimation to load up on my screen, but i have no idea where to put the sound or how to even get it to load with the bootanimation any one have any ideas? please help, i do all his trought my phone, put the bootanimation on my sd and work from there and trasfer it to the system/media, most bootanimation that do have sound on them say to put it on the system/custimization/resources but i look every where and the syndicate rom doesnt have that archieve just the system/media, how can i load the sound into my boot? and how can i change the power off animation as wll?
Maybe someone should make a wiki "Trouble shooting guide" formatted like the ones found in the back pages of user manuals..
This might.. just maybe (crosses fingers) alleviate the never ending repeating of questions in the main sfr thread

Just tested Vision kernel 1.1 and ran into countless issues. My phone would not open camera, gallery, or music apps. And after that debacle I didnt even bother to find out if any other apps were misbehaving.
The first sign of trouble came when I installed a fresh version of SyndicateROM 1.1.0 and then flashed Vision kernel 1.1. The phone booted-up fine but when I went to shut down it immediately froze and I had to pull the battery.
Im going to stay on Twilight 1.0.4 kernel for a while until I find something else.
I have tested Twilight 1.0.4 kernel for about a day or two and have not had any problems so far. I even overclocked with SetCPU to 1.2GHz without any issues.

I have installed this ROM, followed the directions and thought I did everything right. But when I rebooted the phone, I just get the Clockwork Recovery screen. Have I bricked my phone? How do I recover? Please please please help...Haven't even had my phone for a day...
By the way, the error I'm getting is:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
I backed up before I installed this ROM, and Restore brings me back to this same screen / message

Please elaborate on the steps that you took to install the ROM and CWM.
What version of CWM are you running?
What modem do you have installed (...DK28, EB13, EC05)?
Have you transfered the SyndicateROM 1.1.0 onto your SD card before you installed CWM?
Did you wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache at least three times each before installing the .zip?
Your phone most likely is not bricked, that is a very hard to task to achieve. Worst case scenario you may have to do a clean wipe with odin and flash the stock ROM to start the process over. We can try to help you with any issues you may have but in the mean time try searching to the forum to find answers to these questions.
Hey, great idea for the thread.
Something I learned:
I was having AWFUL freezing problems. Tried all the fixes (vision kernel, old twilight) to no avail. If these don't fix your problems, try Genocide Kernel (on these forums). Solved my problems.

Fix permissions in CWM/etc.
Kernels cannot cause that. It's that simple.

I used the one step root process I found here to install CWM 2.5.1.0. I then downloaded the ROM, copied it to my SDcard, then used CWM to install the zip from my sdcard.
I don't know what modem I have, is there a way to check with my phone in it's current state?
I installed CWM previous to transferring the rom to my sd card
I did not the first time, but per instructions on the page where I downloaded the ROM, I reformatted my sd card, redownloaded the ROM, wiped everything 3x's and tried to reinstall. Same result. I keep getting the error on just about everything I do that states "E:Can't open /cash/recovery/log"
And thank you for your advise, any more would be greatly appriciated. I did search the forum, but there is so much information, hard to find what I really want, especially as a novice. I plan to not be a novice for long thanks to xda!

I could probably answer that question, im still a noob, but from what i know u need to install CWM version 3.0.5/6 in order for u to run does roms, thats why ure having trouble flashing it, since Syndicate roms are EXT4 Base Roms anything lower then CWM3 wont support since they are RFS files, go here and follow the steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976194
download the CWM3 and root it again, u can run the CWM Root over the previous 1 so dont worry, i did it that way and i had no problems what so ever, as to check to see what modem u had, go to settings, about phone, under base band version check to see if the last 4 letters says EB13, or DK28, or if u have the ECO5 which is the newest stock base update that came out.
Also its best to know if ure phone is from stock, or if u updated from any of the first 2 version updates, EB or DK, if u where like me that waited for the update and stayed at Eclair then updated when the ECO5 OTA came out then u should be fine....
Just incase u are from a update of EB or DK here is the link for does 2 versions of CWM3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
if im wrong then someone please correct me im still a noob learning.
EDIT: just noticed that u said ure phone is messed at that point, umm u can try to do a factory reset then restart ure phone see if that fixes the problem, then try follow the steps above, if that doesnt work, u will have to download odin, which is also in that link and reflash back to stock, everything is there so if u follow does instrunctions u wont have a problem.....its actually pretty easy.....
which themes and roms can I use if I rooted using odin?
and if i have drockstar.clean.kernal.eco5v 1.02 installed
too root i used eco5x_dxc.tar
hope that helps hard to get this far and lost without trying something and getting locked no load or looping and having to reflash
how do i flash it, instructions do i have to change it to anything or download and flash?
is there something on the market to help flash, use odin or recovery, change name to flash?
All of them. I reccomemt SRF 1.1.1 + twilight kernal 1.11 (in same thread) if you like froyo or marcusant rom if you want gingerbread. Make sure you are using cwm 3.0.2.5
Did the news get around about a guy named butcher pete?
I dont think it matters if you rooted via odin as to the themes as much as it does the kernel supporting the them and the modem supporting it and the version of rom you are running. I have noticed there are quite a few that will go together but you have to make sure of them all
okay then what and how do i know what i can put toghether
this is alot different then running the moment
that was alot easier
is there something that would let me know which rom i can run compared to theme, etc?
and how do i go about doing that?
this is alot different then the moment so like they say.....still wet behind the ears, but learning from you
Let me just say this first. If you have read anything the most from this site it is research it. There are alot of wiki and posts for almost everything. I rushed into it and was so in a bad way and someone helped me out so here I am. what have you done to your phone. Rooted??If so did you CW3 or Odin. Are you stock dk28...
this could go on and on. If anyone sees a problem with what you are saying or something doesnt seem right the Devs will jump in. But if it is handled in wiki or past posts...dont expect a fast response. Not that they are neglecting...but they are busy.
rooted using odin...eco5x_dxc.tar
and i have drockstar.clean.kernal.eco5v 1.02 installed
thats all i have done
got all from sdx site not rushing had phone for 2 months so another day
isnt going to hurt, want to be safe and learn
different from moment
so?
What clockwork mod version do u have?

I have put together a new Rom version of SyndicateRom Frozen 1.1.0 called RandomRom. It includes many of the updates and modifications made to 1.1.1.
More specifically, it includes the Genocide Kernel and solves freezes. It also comes Pre-Journaled.
You'll also find the link to the CWM 3.0.2.5 upgrade thread in the changelog. Everything you will need should be linked.
Hi everyone!
I realize I can't post in the developer threads for any questions yet, but I do have a couple.
I'm pretty new to flashing and have read a enough before I did my flash that I felt comfortable doing it.
I was running MikG 3.11 and decided I wanted to try something different. So I flashed the ODJDub HD Bliss 2.2.1 ROM and it seems a bit sluggish to me right now. Is this normal?
Also I'm having a random problem with sms texts that I'm typing but the text won't show up and I have to close out and save a draft then go back to it. It seems to be happening in just landscape view the normal view was fine.
Thanks!

First off, the development section is not for questions, this thread is. (hence the name, or maybe I misunderstood you thinking youd post this AS a question in the dev section, when you meant in the ROMs thread lol) second, can you please answer these following questions:
1. Are you partitioned, and to what EXT.?
2. did you do a full, clean wipe?
3. did you partition before flashing this?
4. What kernel are you using?
5. what I/O scheduler, what governor, and what speeds?
6. are you using any alternate mods?
Also, Sense 3.5 isnt quite the fastest on the Evo 4G. Thank you. - Kyler

1: Yes, to EXT-3
2: Yes I did a full wipe, cleared all caches
3: Yes
4: Stock kernel
5: Not sure...guessing that has to do with another kernel.
6: Nope, just freshly flashed
Maybe its just inexperience for me using a newer ROM thats more advanced for the phone. Maybe its a matter of using a different kernel or it just how it is.
Thanks!

I can't seem to find a download link for Caulkin's wipe all. Where can I find it?
What are the dangers of messing with the CPU speed and govenors on the phone?
I'm getting some fc's and the browser doesn't work at all, it just crashes right after it opens. When go into messages it seems to hang for a few seconds.
I'm going to try and wipe again and flash again.
Thanks!
There has been several people that have had the browser problem including myself on the 1st install...but after i used caulkin's wipe script and partitioned my sd card again it installed perfect....i may have 1 fc a month which is so random i dont worry about it...Smelkus has a new recovery in the development section that may fix your problems...it has been stated its the best recovery for the evo right now...i would try this, do a complete wipe with smelkus recovery then try the rom again and see if corrects your problems...good luck....Carp
Also i am running Ca1ne underworld sbc version 6....version 7 just came out and i loading it as i type....some have said that the browser problem may be kernel related...so u may want to try this also....Carp
Ok so I'm in recovery and put the Smelkus recovery on and went into the bootloader and its just stuck saying Parsing....[PC36IMG.zip]
Edit: I think I see my problem. I needed to name the recovery file exactly what it was named before. I never renamed the Amon Ra file to PC36IMG.zip, I left it named how I downloaded it. Noob mistake
Guess not. I'm just stuck in this loop now.

So I've got Smelkus recovery mod and did a superwipe and then Re-flashed the ROM with the Underworld kernel and flashed the newest Underworld kernel on and I'm still having FC issues with the browser.

Man i'm sorry...if u got smelkus flashed and working then did his wipes i'm kinda stumped...i remember reading in the bliss rom thread where some did not get there browser working....Outerdepth posted he was working on a update.back several pages in the thread....try wiping just the cashe, and dalvik cashe, then reboot and see if this helps....if not bro i'm sorry out of ideas...i have flashed a ton of roms and sometimes run into 1 that just doesnt like my evo...this may be your case but it sure runs great on mine....hope it works out for u and once again good luck bro.....Carp
Well I tried getting it to work but its just not working great for me. On to another ROM I guess. Thanks for the suggestions!
I actually flashed the Warm Two-Point-Three ROM and so far I've had no problems and it uses much less memory and space.
What is the most recent and stable ROM for the Gio GT-S5660M ?
Importantly it would be to have a ROM that is new enough to work with modern apps, which often require at least android 4 or 5. Also, I would prefer to avoid GApps and go with F-Droid and Aurora Store, and the latter seems to require android 5+.
I have a couple of these lying around and thought they might make good WiFi IP phones with a SIP client. With a modern ROM and a new replacement battery (remember those?!) they could have new life.
Is this workable? This phone is so cute and compact that I really don't want to get rid of it if it can be used for something.
It has an armv6 cpu wich is no longer supported on android the last supported version was kitkat 4.4.4, this is the latest rom available for the device: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-cyanogenmod-11-final-05-08-2015.3066771/
It can still be used to listen to fm radio etc, although it no longer has browser support, so it won't work on all sites. I have one too and think it is a very nice tiny phone but I am affraid you are going to have to buy a newer phone for daily usage.

Does that rom work well? There is some conflicting feedback in the thread. Which is the correct rom (msm vs msm7x27)?
How can the rom be flashed from the stock non-rooted state? There aren't instructions in that thread, though there is a post saying to use this CWM recovery (requires root?): https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-11-wip-alpha-1.2582642/page-27#post-54754255
Good point, the browsers all seem to require android 5+.
Currently on stock (android 2.3.4) I am using CSipSimple and that's working reasonably well. A newer rom might give a bit more flexibility in settings (eg. I can't figure out how to enable wifi on boot and autostart CSipSimple on 2.3.4), and maybe just maybe a few apps through F-Droid.
Both versions work they are just different kernels, I forgot what the advantages over each other were, I think the 7x27 version was more buggy but I am not sure, I recommend checking out both.
That cwm is indeed the only correct version, newer or older ones can't install this rom. I think to install the cwm you just have to boot to recovery (home button + power button and keep the home button pressed in.) and apply update from sd card and select that cwm(wrong: see edit). After this you boot to recovery again and now you factory reset and flash the rom. You also need to flash the camera patch after you flash the rom, otherwise you won't be able to record using the camera. I am not responsible for anything that happens, custom roms are always a risk. Hope it works for you
edit: You need to be rooted and on android version 2.3.3 or higher to install cwm: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...mwares-mods-tips-tricks.1397120/post-20397988
I also recommend using link2sd:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/bulent-akpinar/link2sd/ .
For instructions, follow this guide but scroll all the way down to the for cwm only users method: https://awanstuff.wordpress.com/201...ink2sd-in-any-android-phone-with-screenshots/
Link2sd will fully transfer apps to sd card instead of only the package. I changed the settings to make sure auto link is on and install location is set to sd. You can also transfer already installed apps to the sd and a lot more.
After this maybe post about how well the gio is running for documentation.
Some extra tips: the built in root is handy and if you enable developer options in the rom you will also get a performance menu in settings where you can make it run faster.
Thanks, I plan to try installing CWM and the CM11 rom soon. From searching it looks like "MSM7x27" refers to the Snapdragon S1 processor version:
List of Qualcomm Snapdragon systems on chips - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
The Gio has a MSM7227 https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_gio_s5660-3741.php so maybe the MXM7x27 version is the correct one? I don't know if the plain "MSM" version rom is referring to a specific or generic designation.
Thanks for the tip about link2sd. It's nice to have that option since the very limited storage on this phone is maybe the biggest weakness. I'll see if I need it, since I don't plan to install many apps at all, rather I want to maximize battery life.
I got 1500 mAh batteries from Polarcell and in airplane mode with wifi and just CSipSimple running on the stock rom it lasts over 7 days in "standby". Let's see a modern phone do that!
I think this is the msm7x27: https://github.com/androidarmv6/android_kernel_samsung_msm
and this is the msm: https://github.com/HerroYou/android_kernel_samsung_msm/commits/cm-11.0
The msm just adds overclocking but might be more unstable and it also breaks the backlights. I don't know which is the best one. I recommend if the msm7x27 doesn't work well enough to try the msm and see if that gives you better results.
Also just so you know I have not found any gapps that work yet.
Also when you before you reset your device and flash the rom. Right after the cwm install I recommend fully backing up your device to an sd card so you can just go back any time you want.
I tested csipsimple and it works. If you want better battery life, the power menu that gets enabled after you unlock dev mode might allow you to downclock the cpu to get even more battery.
HerroYou has a mxm7x27 repo too: https://github.com/HerroYou/android_kernel_samsung_msm7x27
It would have been so helpful for them to leave a couple of notes about the difference. It seems like these terms might be common enough in the dev circles that they didn't think it needed explanation.
About gapps, I wasn't interested anyway, so I'll take its lack as a "feature". Not sure if microg is feasible. In any case, side-loading and F-Droid are ok for me on this device.
And yes, a backup after installing CWM but before the rom installation is essential. No intention to skip that.
oh I see the msm2x27 kernel is based on linux kernel 2.6.37 and the msm kernel is based on linux kernel 3.0
I have been reading up on things and see that most threads say you must be rooted and above version 2.3.3 to flash the cwm recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...mwares-mods-tips-tricks.1397120/post-20397988
I am sorry I forgot about it. It really has been a long time since I installed it
Nice catch. In that case it is tempting to try msm with the more recent kernel 3.0.
Is there no way to flash CWM without root?
If not, is this post on rooting still valid? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...wares-mods-tips-tricks.1397120/#post-20397899
It is to root the stock rom so it should still work since the stock rom hasn't been updated in forever. I would also recommend reading the rest of the beginning of that thread to make sure you didn't miss anything because while mostly outdated, the things like rooting the stock rom and installing cwm is still the same.
I would also just to be sure use the cwm version in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...mwares-mods-tips-tricks.1397120/post-20397988 and then update it to the new version.
I started downloading the resources needed for this project, but the link (actually the whole hosting site) is dead for the root gb updated.zip hmm...
There are a few other files for rooting uploaded by random forum members:

A bit scary, but not sure there's another choice. It would be ideal if the recovery and rom could be flashed without root.
I found a rooting tutorial with a download on this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...kernels-recoveries-scripts-tutorials.1623393/
It is under the tutorials section.
Again I am not sure if you have to root to be able to install cwm but I wouldn't take any risks.
Also before you install anything is there anything you want me to confirm whether it's working or not on this rom?
I got youtube to work through newpipe and mx player although you have to download the videos because at low resolutions newpipe loses audio when sending to external video player.
Thanks, that's a nice resource thread. In the second page of the rooting thread someone has a modified version of the file for Bell S5660M variant, which is what I have, so I suppose I'll use that. I would prefer to go with CWM and CM11 without rooting, since I don't need or want root, but as you say it could be risky...
Oh, it would be great if you could verify on CM11 if 1) wifi can start automatically on (re)boot (eg. if it was on when powering off or rebooting, 2) if programs like CSipSimple can be autostarted on boot. That's all I really need right now to make it useful as an wifi IP phone.
I don't know how I would go about autostarting apps on boot. Is there a setting or a test for that? The wifi stays enabled after reboot.
