OK i hope this hasn't been talked about already, I couldn't find it. If i understand correctly...the EVO is a world model phone and is capable of both CDMA as well as GSM. I could be wrong...I have an ATT plan and Im sick of Sprint service however i love my evo. has anyone successfully made a GSM rom for these phones? if so where do i find it or would someone be willing to give it a shot? I might need to "repair' my ESN too. any input other than "I'm a dumb a$$ for thinking of it" would be appreciated thanks.
Impossible to get the Sprint HTC Evo onto the AT&T network. AT&T uses SIM cards, which the Evo does not have.
The evo is not a world phone, it's purely CDMA & WiMax. AT&T uses GSM for voice, which is the world standard. AT&T currently uses some variant of HSPA for data, I believe.
What that boils down to is that no, you can't put an evo on AT&T. The only other major compatible network is Verizon, which also uses CDMA. However, Sprint is the only carrier that uses WiMax for 4G, so you'd be out of luck there.
There's also the thorny issue of CDMA carriers not allowing equipment from competitors activate on their accounts. Some smaller carriers will take devices from other carriers, but I don't really know much about them.

Greetings!
I have Hard SPLed my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 and wanted to see if it was possible to get it to work on the Sprint network as I have no SIM card for my current sprint phone.
Does anyone know how to get my T-Mobile version working on a Sprint Network?
Not possible.
GSM phones (like the T-Mo TP2) will not work on CDMA networks (like Sprint)
Also, CDMA networks do not use SIM cards.
To make completely clear (maybe): The T-Mo branded TP2 lacks the radio hardware to connect to the Sprint or Verizon network.
GSM touch pro 2 lack cdma wont work. Even if it had CDMA its ESN is not in sprints data base thus wont work. Best to have a sprint touch pro 2 can use it on every network with no issue ( even hard of it being successfully activated on verzion go figure)

Sptint tightly guards their ESN list and does not add anything Sprint branded. Verizon will, not for a matter of policy but how nice you are to the store manager. So yes, it isn't unheard of.

Are you saying that the T-Mobile hardware is capable of CDMA in addition to GSM? That's the first I've heard of it. I thought that HTC built different hardware versions.

No...he was off-topic for your original post (he was responding to the post before his).

Absolutely not.
What I am saying is that one would be able to get a Sprint branded phone, or anything CDMA, to work on Verizon. I was mostly responding to the second part of the post regarding non Verizon phones being activated on their network.
As many of us know, a CDMA version of the HTC Desire has been released for U.S. Cellular. I believe U.S. Cellular uses the same type of data as Sprint, as I have heard that U.S. Cellular devices roam on Sprint.
With that said, is there ANY hope for this CDMA Desire to eventually become usable for Sprint?
One problem is that Sprint employees will not activate non Sprint-branded phones, which is quite a big hurdle to jump over... but may be possible??

Honestly, I don't like your chances, since Sprint have an ESN whitelist. Verizon used to take any phone until they brought in a whitelist too (Well I'm not sure if it's still the case now). You're better off with going to a GSM carrier, if you want a wider choice of phones. I had the same problem with Telstra, back when they were running a CDMA network, when Orange shut down, you couldn't use the phone on Telstra. Really, I hate CDMA for this reason, and I'm glad they finally ditched it here.
Another thing is you could try tricking customer service into it, but you only have a 1% chance.
That's precisely what I was afraid of...
On a similar note, what are the chances of Sprint actually releasing the Desire officially? I mean, its the same technology for both carriers after all. Look at the CDMA Hero, it was released on other networks after being released for Sprint.
I know this is an ancient thread, I'm a streak owner and am used to the same basic hardware (same 1st gen snapdragon and 512mb ram, 800x480 screen, etc.) my girlfriends hero is getting tired fast, I know when the CDMA Hero came out, people were cloning the ESN and using em on Boost, is it possible to clone the ESN from her Hero? I know this gets more and more into the seedy part of hacking these phones. Let me remind you that this isn't illegal in the united states, especially for testing and educational purposes. (or hey, maybe it is illegal, Its a grey area, obviously It's illegal when used fraudulently)
Since I don't want to renew my plan with ATT...I was told that it requires ESN swapping and that could get me in trouble? Can someone explain what this is and why and what are the chances of them knowing and getting caught?
Oh and would 3G work? I know hspa+ probably wouldn't since I don't think that's what sprint uses...?
No it's not possible, Virgin Mobile USA is owned by Sprint and uses Sprint's CDMA network, as the G2 is a GSM phone it doesn't even have a radio that can work on the network.
If you want to switch to a pre-paid carrier and keep you G2 you need to pick one that uses GSM technology such as Simple Mobile.

Nailed it.
And as I've said in other threads, people need to chill out about the AT&T thing. Its going to be up to a year before the acquisition is complete, and at that time make your choice on where you want to move or if you're going to stay.
Freaking out now 1 day after its announced isn't gonna do you any good.
You guys split SGS3 forums into AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, but leave out all other carriers. So where exactly does MetroPCS belong??
T-Mobile bought and owns MetroPCS. However, T-Mobile uses GSM while MetroPCS uses CDMA. Their SGS3 variants are not compatible.
When MetroPCS users root or flash their SGS3 phones, they usually use the files/packages for Verizon.
Specs-wise, Sprint's SGS3 variant and CDMA are closest to MetroPCS. But for some reason I've never seen anyone uses a package for Sprint on MetroPCS phones.
So should I post in the T-Mobile, Verizon or Sprint forums if I have a question about rooting??
FYI, T-Mobile has NOT bought and does NOT own MetroPCS.
They are in the process (going to take a while) of doing a reverse merger, where the smaller company merges with the bigger company.
I also believe some of the MetroPCS share holders are going to veto the reverse merger. As of now about 10% of them are figthing it possibly with more to come.
There are a few other things i could correct about the GSM (wcdma transitioning into LTE) and CDMA (LTE to LTE advanced) that ill leave alone. LOL
For now if you have a question about rooting id suggest matching closest to what your devices is. You pretty much answered your own question when you said metro users use the verizon packages.. So if it were me id post on the verizon side and hope i get some help.
we do not use the verizon packages. the SCH-R530 is its own device and we share with the cricket and us cellular variants
I've searched and see a lot of info related to using the Sprint HTC One on Verizon's network. Voice should work over CDMA but I haven't found any info about changing SIM. My question is if I use a Verizon SIM instead of the Sprint one will it work on Verizon's LTE network?
Thanks,
I would be suprised if this worked. Verizon's LTE is on 700mhz spectrum. I doubt a Sprint htc one is tuned for that.
I think if we had unlock and root and could modify the phone, parts of the phone could work on Verizon. However, I believe you would have an uphill battle in getting Verizon to activate a Sprint device in their network.
rethinking this, I don't think it will work at all. Sprint isn't beholden to the same rules as Verizon for using the 700 block spectrum. They are free to lockout verizon LTE.
Besides, why would you want to use a sprint phone on verizon network? If you don't have sprint signal, it will roam to verizon anyways.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the only LTE band supported by Sprint's One is 1900Mhz so its not possible at all, let alone to lock it out.

Thanks, Figures! Too bad, the reason I wanted to use Sprint's One is "RED" .... it really is nice looking
Verizon's network runs on an ESN white-list. If the ESN of the device doesn't match up with their database the phone is going to be rejected no matter what you do. The only way around that is to do (highly illegal) ESN cloning.
