Hi all,
I got my Desire HD about 4 weeks ago, and used it quite a lot, with barely any apps installed. (I never use app killers by the way) Over time i realised it was actually acting quite slow for a phone with it's spec, so i asked Vodafone and they sent me another one.
My new one, that i've had for 2 weeks now is still slow for what i would expect from a phone like this, and i'm not just being fussy either.
My friend has an X10 mini, and was showing me the other day, and i was shocked at how much more responsive and faster it is than my Desire HD, so i looked up lag issues and found xda developers.
I tried enabling USB debugging, checked for the latest update, rebooted etc.. it feels like i'm only getting, what... 25 frames per second at best? usually looks about 20 (in menus) when compared to my friends X10 mini, his looks as if it's easily scrolling up and down the drop down or popup menu with all of your apps in it, at 60 frames, (something above 30 anyway with NO lag whatsoever) and i have yet to flick my menu without seeing some degree of jitter while scrolling. I downloaded the Quadrant Benchmark and found I got 2002 Points, which when looked at in the graph.. there is no way the x10 mini could even scratch the DHD's score... so...
WHY does my phone feel sluggish? Is this normal or should I be concerned?
Thanks
-J
Here is what i did:
- Install ES Task Manager and add the widget and run it often. (Make sure to add the apps to the ignore list that you do not want to close)
- Remove as many widgets as possible from screen
- Install LauncherPro (It speeded things up a hell of alot for me)
- And most importantly, if your SD Card has a lot of stuff on it (Music etc) then delete as much as you can. The less on your SD Card the faster it will be.
I've Tried that...
Hey, before I wrote this, I tried formatting the phone and did a factory reset, the menu STILL lags and jitters quite a bit. Surely this isn't supposed to happen on a fresh version of the phone with NO user junk on there? and I've heard that task kilelrs are bad for the system, usually doing more damage than good.
Do you have anything on the SD Card?
I am not sure about that, the task manager on mine seems to be very good, i have stopped it from closing important apps which need to be open though.
Hmmm
No i don't have much on the SD, olny the files that the phone adds itself, i tried removing all of my user data already, still no sucess.
Try the task manager if you wish. It works perfectly fine for me and i have been using it for months.
OK
I just tried the task manager... made a little difference, but the menus still lag!
Try turning Auto Sync off for a while too... I am unsure why the menus are lagging. Mine seem fine. What menus lag?
The one where you tap the arrow in the bottom left, and all of your apps are on one page lags the worst. sometimes scrolling on the home screen too.
install launcherpro!!! the menu will ALLWAYS be laggy on ****ty HTC Roms..

What sort of setup do you have on your phone? What apps etc?
I don't have any performance issues with my stock DHD. I even have a bunch of widgets too.

Why would htc release a laggy OS? surely that isn't a very good selling point for their top device?
I don't think they did.

Yes, I have seen the lags in my 3 weeks old DHD. It is very annoying and I don't understand why HTC doesn't address the issues and only focus on new product development.

same here, i`m using stock rom 1.72 flashed via RUU, OP maybe try to back`up your rom and flash a custom rom like revo or leedroid and see how it is...
ok try watchtower
and see how much RAM is used.
try to use another ROM, not sure if your service provider accept it.
i am sure it is a software added by your provider, or some settings needed.
i would go to:
- format the SD card - don't forget to back it up
- full reset my phone
still same problem ..... find a clean ROM and flash it.

That is what I thought too! I think its your provider. Especially when getting new phone from the same provider and the laggs are still there. I would suggest to try another Rom. Clean from such ****ty provider Stuff.

I have 1 month old DHD, no lag so far on ordinary use.
But i notice 1 think that make it lag.
When i browse internet, HSDPA & 3g signal no problem, but when Edge signal, than lag start to happen, some time its hang few second!! & my DHD start heating warm under battery..
Even tho i click usb debug, stil lag.
Only way to make sure its not lag is to use only HSDPA & 3g signal while browse..
I use stock rom, no root.

Actually Im really fascinated about the design and the screen of my arc. But hey my Arc is slower than my desire. Few days ago I just received the update. This increased the speed a little bit. But in my opionion for a mobile device with a cpu of over 1ghz its definetly not fast and smooth enough. And I dont have many apps installed. Ihave the feeling the longer I use my Arc the slower it becomes. I think SE already noticed this. Why else should they release and Arc S (Speed). I hope the announced update in october will solve the laggy and speed problem. What do you think? Am I overacting or do you have the same opionion like me?
There is a blurb about frequent system software re-installs on the PC companion support page, I wonder why they would put that up there, yes it is occasionally laggy like X10. Arc is feature rich but sometimes I want speed. It runs fast after a fresh install but it slows down as you install apps. Also widgets slow it down...
Because the 1ghz processors are becoming difficult to get hold of..?

Where exactly do you see this lag? And how is Arc slower than Desire? I know the default launcher from SE is laggy but I don't think it is that much. Even better when I switch to ADW Launcher EX there is no lag at all.
1. When I am switching between pages on the homescreen. Its very laggy.
2. When I am going back from an application to the homescreen I can really see how the SE-Launcher builds the bottom dock bar up. It needs 1-2 seconds till I can use my phone.
3. Im using the app SwipePad for multitasking. Sometimes I cant switch to the right app cause its to slow and the app menu is not build up properly
Use Launcher Pro or another launcher, problem solved.
One of my mates had a Desire and has a Desire Z now. He said once, wow, that thing is fast when I used my Arc at that time. And now with 2.3.4 it's even faster

Thanks for the advice. Now. I'm using launcher pro. Faster definitely. But when I'm switching from standby to homescreen I still have a leak. When the homescreen with all the widgets is finally loaded then it's fine. Normal phenomenon?
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
Finally I wiped my phone. Reinstalled almost everything. Now its really fast.

Tried ADWLauncher EX for a week, it everything went slow. No problems with SE's default launcher, and it's not bad either.
Supernova is a fantastic rom and with the recent 2.4 version, there hasn't been any freezes or reboots! swiping the screens and rearranging it (used to lag badly) and using it daily has really been a breeze without any major lags.
However I realise that there is a slight lag whenever I turn on the wifi and use the web/market. It seems to me that there is a glitch with wifi usage. Comparing the Desire to LG optimus one, it seems that the Desire is much slower than LG while opening the market, browsing the web etc.
Is there a way to solve the problem? like a kernel that I should install over? I am sure the Desire is capable of much better performance!
Thanks in advance!
does anyone know of a possible solution?
Already checked supernova thread for such a problem?
checked, but there wasnt really an answer.. what I tried was flashing a new kernel but it caused the Desire to lag even more.. I've reflashed the rom, now the only lag is when wifi is turned on, internet, market, whatsapp etc. these applications will start to lag.. especially web browsing.
If anyone knows of a possible solution, do point me in the right direction, thanks!
I have the same lag issue with the market mainly. Lately dolphin hd has also been a bit slow but I couldn't call it a general WiFi problem. Maybe an other version of android market would be better?

From my experience with Supernova, you must have good sd card for smooth running this ROM.
I had much lags with class 4 sd card. With class 6 sd card it was much better but still not smooth as I wanted to be. It is excellent ROM but had no luck with it.
I'll stick to AOSP roms

Have you tried installing another version? There was only the either the new or old market provided for flashing. I'm using the older version (which should be faster) but sadly no luck with it. It lags worse than a lower-spec LG phone.
With the default web browser I guess the lag became obvious after a period of usage. When I compared the loading time, the Desire simply took ages to finish loading.

I changed to a class 4 sandisk for the ROM. It is a fantastic ROM I guess and I would prefer the HTC sense. However, seeing how smooth other phones are, I guess I need to get a ROM that runs smoothly and yet gives unlimited storage.
Do you have any recommended ROM out there? Either that or I'm hoping there will be a new updated supernova which can make Desire perfect
I still keep my attention on further development of Supernova.
Well I can recommend you my current ROM, Redux 2. It is fast and stable. In combination with dalvik2sd script it gives you decent ammount of internal memory.
I have 101 app installed and still 30mb of free memory. I am satisfied.

Very similar problem of yours, I can connect to my WiFi, however, it frequently disconnects and change to my mobile network... Didn't happen before when I was using the official Rom... I am now using the latest 2.4.0.1version, I thought the WiFi issue should have been fixed in this version??? Need help~ this is the only problem of this fantastic Rom!!!!
When I am switching between pages on the homescreen my phone i s laggy...multitasking is not working good because it's really slow..
I have this problem with a lot of rom, maybe link2sd is the problem?
Thanks..

When you put apps to your sd-card, who normally are on your phone, you must have a good sd-card. I have a class 10 card in my phone, so I have a performance. First I hat a class 4, used whit a2sd, and my apps where slow, when installing them on the sd-card. What is your read_ahead_kb? If it is standard 128, set it higher. Download a sd-card speedtester from Google play, then test the settings, wich value works the best. On my phone I set it to 2048, but I have a different card in my phone, but you can set your value near that.
link2sd performed crap on my gfs ace. I literally tried loads of roms and it was always the same, slow.

Link2SD doesn't create lag on your phones.
Use advance task killer app from google play and kill all the running apps.
Or else, try superchargerV6

Just try some tweaks (SuperCharge or anything) or just reflash your Arc with a Gingerbread with "stable" status
Anyway, i'm using ICS beta rom and yes it's lagging sometimes when switch tab or pages
Hi guys, I just got the tab 3 8.0, and I like most part of it but the performance is seriously bad..I have already restored all my apps from Google server. While running apps and switching between them, I can't take all the lags it has. I just got it today so I can return it if I want but I'm wondering if rooting this device actually gains much performance improvements. I used to have a galaxy s2x, which has a similar if not worse spec than this tablet, and I don't know if It was because I running rooted version of touchwiz or not but the performance was pretty good. This tablet is much worse. A simple reboot fixes the lag but after a few hours, as I use it, I notice the stutters while using it. I just had a serious lag in Google plus app, it was stuttering so bad, but it came back to smooth after 5 seconds.
So will installing the custom Rom available for tab 3 8.0 improve the performance significantly? I know there are not many ROMs for tab 3 8.0, so any user of this device just rooted the tab and tweak it themselves to gain performance improvements? Not just little bit, but a lot.
Thanks!

One thread is enough, you don't have to post the same question in multiple sections.
As I said on your other thread, stop blaming the device and look at your apps. My 8.0 isn't laggy at all. In fact it's pretty zippy. Chances are one of your apps is causing the issue or you have too much stuff filling your memory. Do a factory reset. If the lag stays gone add your apps back a couple at a time till you find the one that's not playing nice. How much free space/memory do you have left? The fact that the lag goes away when you reboot points to it being an app problem.

go to developers options and turn off all animations,
also disable CPU power saving option in power saving mode,
then check if you feel any difference
Thanks for replies guys!
So I believe it was ram issue. Too little ram left when it was stuttering really bad. However, I'm wondering why this device was not releasing ram by closing open apps for the forgoing app to run well. This is the android way of managing ram isn't it? But when I checked the ram manager in the task manager app that came with the tab, there was very little ram left, less than 100mb I believe.
After I have been using it for more now, I also rooted it, and I deleted almost all the unnecessary bloatware. I think I see a huge improvement in performance after I did this, deleting bloatware.
The tablet runs pretty well now.
Although..I still see some stutters in animations, where the animation has dropped frame rates. Is this just due to Touchwiz? It doesn't happen every time, but sometime when opening app, or switching between apps in recent apps panel. The animations sometimes are pretty choppy. It is not a huge deal, but I just remember that my S2X was much smoother. Maybe it's because I was running a custom rom which was heavily tweaked by deviant development.
Any info would be great!
Thanks for your help again guys.
Hmmm, i have no problem at all, the tab 3 runs pretty smooth, stock. Now I have set the animations to 0.5 in developer options and it runs even smoother. Ok, it's not as fast as the Note 2, but it runs very nice. Very happy with it. (Using Nova launcher)
(I also disabled some if the apps that come with it, SNS Samsung Facebook, Samsung widgets, flipboard an the lot)

I see. Mine is running pretty nice right now but I'm feel kind of afraid as I use it thinking "will this animation be choppy?" As I long press the home button or something. Lol I really don't like choppiness.
So you don't notice ANY choppiness in animation? I want to know if it's only my device so that I can figure out what's the cause. I'm using nova launcher as well btw.
Thanks!
