I have been looking through all the forums. I just got my Evo back the charging port broke and now I want to root my new Evo. Problem is that I only have a Mac and none of the methods work for the Mac I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Unrevoked 3 doesn't run on it... So what are my options. I have been fooling around with it for the last couple hours.
Unrevoked does work on macs. When you went to the page, did you download the mac os version?
Edit: http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ On the second line on the right...download for mac os
where did you read that? i rooted back in 11/10 with that os.
easiest full root method out.
just try it.
yea, ive rooted 3 evos on my mac. easier than windows.
oh, Unrevoked.
Thanks, however when I try to open Unrevoked on my Mac it says.
"You Cannot use this version of the application Reflash with this version of Mac OS X."

What is the alternative method? I can't use most root methods because they need HTC Sync.
edit: just saw something about alternatives.
It requires Windows.
You Will Need:
A windows machine
HTC Sync that can be found on Sprint's website. HTC Sync 2.0.35.exe

Or more money. Not really looking to upgrade my OS anytime soon.
That's why I don't use macs...http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/17766-how-full-root-evo-4g-mac.html You'll have to register to get the link downloads, but that seems to be your best option.
Just upgrade your OS. ****, bootleg it then buy Lion OS when it cones out.

Hi guys,
I was thinking to bypass the many problems reported here about using unrevoked on a winXP OS by rooting my desire through a ubuntu virtual machine (WmWare).
Can it be done? would I make my life easier or is it better to just risk it with winXP?
Thanks
Luca
Why not use the livecd?
What's that? Sorry mercianary, but I'm an absolute n00b (got the phone 3 weeks ago and I'm still trying to learn.

Hello
I have been trying to root my Galaxy S3 and on my mac, but the Heimdall program doesn't work. Is there any other way to root without use the Heimdal progam.
Thanks for the help.
Nope, don't believe so...sorry.
Actually, if you can get adb running on MAC, i think the method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827518&highlight=odin should work
Thanks.....this is way too difficult...I'm a total noobie.

I used VMware (30 day trial) and a free preview of Windows 8. I used the instructions in the thread below once i got windows up and running.

Oh and it was my first time rooting
I stopped trying and rooted it once I got a Windows Laptop. So much easier.
Yeah VMWare is pretty much a virtual machine that will let you run Windows progs so you should try that and it's pretty easy!

Oh ok. After reading about rooting our phone, Im confused about the whole "kies" thing. There is a stock "kies" app that came installed with my phone. So does that mean I have to go through that whole driver issue? Can someone explain this process a little further if so?
Your probably thinking of Samsung Kies for the computer. Windows version does not matter.
You do not need Kies if your going to root just download and install the ones they tell you in the post your reading.
Hey folks,
Replied to a post on the One S board about this, but wanted to reach out in this forum for any solutions/updates....
I've read tons of threads about incompatibility with 8.1 and the htc driver. I've tried the intel driver method with no luck. All i succeed in doing is killing all of the usb ports on my machine as soon as I apply the modified driver. Had to get a ps/2 board out and roll back the drivers.
Is there any other work around for this? I just got this phone and was planning to go S-Off, but cant get around this driver issue. I've seen varying opinions about if its an HTC driver issue or a windows driver issue. Not really smart enough to know.
Greatly appreciate any help or guidance.

Its a chipset driver issue combined with the version of hboot on the phone. I was able to get mine working via updated etron drivers before the new hboot on phone. Once you get updated to 4.3 the hboot should fix the issue. What Rom version are u on?

I haven't flashed anything to the phone yet. As I received it. S-ON Locked. Has Android 4.3, OS 2.10.605.1 w/ hboot 1.55.
Which chipset did you use the etron drivers on? I'm running Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H. Notice GB has a hotfix bundle from may '13 with 3 KB's to improve usb 3.0 compatibility. About to install those and see whats up.
Forgive me for any ignorance, this is my first rodeo with the ONE. Thanks for the reply.
EDIT: Those KB's were for win 8, not 8.1. Says incompatible.
I've got a gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3. I used the asrock etron USB drivers. With those installed it will only work on USB 3.0. Here is a link
http://www.mediafire.com/download/wd9gy4yny0cx9g2/EtronUSB3(v0.118)Windows8.1.zip
The new ones from gigabyte are buggy for me and made my etron controller unrecognized. I wouldn't recommend using them.

Maybe check out main chipset manufacturer site or other boards with same chipset. On asrock it actually said for 8.1 which is why I grabbed it and it worked.

Your own post says "up to ... 6.3.0.1". Any recentl tablet is going to be above that, so, no it won't work. The best way to debloat is with the "Toolbox"
I used toolbox but I can't seem to get other web browsers to install. Any ideas?
I got one when amazon was doing there amazon day for cheap, too bad it comes with newestest firmware. I haven't used it yet since it can't be rooted or roms yet. I hope someone comes up with something soon
Toolbox got rid of all the amazon things from the UI but the browser remains an issue.

I am able to boot into the bootrom through the other exploits on fire devices, the bootrom is how every fire device has been unlocked in the last 2years. No one really has put much effort into unlocking it though. Running the exploit and plugging in to PC during the "waiting for bootrom" would boot it right into the bootrom (lsusb detects mediatek phone), but that is as far as i got as the exploit would have to be set up i believe similar to the firestick4k exploit. I have 2 rooted and one that is not rooted. The mtk-su exploit was blocked on first update. But the mtk-su is a temp root and you can not change the system folder. i havent checked any device higher than 6.3.1.2, I am not sure if you can still boot into it. Either way, it seems that the bootrom for this device was not blocked on the firmware. I believe there is a unlock option here, but i am not the one to figure it out...

i dont know if anyone has tried to check to see if the bootrom is available on newer OS. But no one has written code to unlock if there is a bootrom exploit. I will update one this week and see if it will still boot into the bootrom. The mtk-su was just a temp root. The bootrom exploit has potential for full unlock, root, and TWRP... Has anyone try to access it on 7.3.1.6?

i can give it a shot this weekend if i have a device that is on 7.3.1.1. But so few people got access to root or 7.3.1.1, unlocking may be moot if no developers have a want to make a rom. On that note, there should be a shorting method to access the bootrom. Amazon disabled the volume/power on trick somewhere between 7.3.1.2 and 7.3.1.7, not sure what version disabled the easy way. so what all does this do? just downgrade for accessibility to root? What do i need to do this, do i need access to bootrom to downgrade? Trying to read through the posts i got a little lost. I have 3 Mavericks and one is rooted. What would you like me to try, can you give me a step by step. Guess i am asking what rom are you looking for to attempt a downgrade from ? Let me know i will give it a shot, i just have my mavericks in a drawer right now...

all mine are on 7.3.1.0 so i havent gone thro' the procedure myself. its early n only got 1 confirmed successful case so far (the hack was just put together n tested last few days).
@k4y0z thinks it should work on fw rev. newer than 7.3.1.1. first is to run the bypass utility; then the rollback. if it works out, ur tab will now be running 7.3.1.0 which allows the mtk-su root.
looks like someone has just tried n run into a problem...will need to see how it works out in that thread. good luck!

Do you need access to the bootrom to use this? If someone can find access to the bootrom on a updated rom this exploit has a further chance to develop into a custom rom. I suspect the old shorting method should be possible, but i have no idea where to look on the board. I have had it apart before but didn't see anything standing out... but anyways i am charging up my mavericks to see what i have, i know i have a 7.3.1.0, a 7.3.1.1 and a 7.3.1.7. So to be clear, boot into bootrom (volume down and plug in) then run the bypass and rollback? I will test the 7.3.1.1 since i know this one is more likely to succeed

Yeah there was a successful downgrade from 7.3.1.1 already, it has the same lk/pl as 7.3.1.0 but I haven't been able to get into the bootrom on 7.3.1.2, might need to look into shorting a pin.
I think bootrom through the volume button was killed before 7.3.1.7 though
I can confirm bootrom through the volume button on v7.3.1.7 is not working.

@Michajin The bypass-utility will run fine on windows, check the README how to set up python and libusb on windows.
I'm not sure if the kamakiri-RPMB Downgrade will work on windows though.
You can use FireISO for both, it should have everything included.
Steps would be:
Run bypass-utility to disable authentication.
Use SP Flash Tool to flash 7.3.1.0
If it doesn't boot due to anti-rollback, run the kamakiri RPMB-downgrade
As for the shorting, there are some options on the back of the board.
