8.1 Driver Compatibility - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hey folks,
Replied to a post on the One S board about this, but wanted to reach out in this forum for any solutions/updates....
I've read tons of threads about incompatibility with 8.1 and the htc driver. I've tried the intel driver method with no luck. All i succeed in doing is killing all of the usb ports on my machine as soon as I apply the modified driver. Had to get a ps/2 board out and roll back the drivers.
Is there any other work around for this? I just got this phone and was planning to go S-Off, but cant get around this driver issue. I've seen varying opinions about if its an HTC driver issue or a windows driver issue. Not really smart enough to know.
Greatly appreciate any help or guidance.

Its a chipset driver issue combined with the version of hboot on the phone. I was able to get mine working via updated etron drivers before the new hboot on phone. Once you get updated to 4.3 the hboot should fix the issue. What Rom version are u on?

I haven't flashed anything to the phone yet. As I received it. S-ON Locked. Has Android 4.3, OS 2.10.605.1 w/ hboot 1.55.
Which chipset did you use the etron drivers on? I'm running Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H. Notice GB has a hotfix bundle from may '13 with 3 KB's to improve usb 3.0 compatibility. About to install those and see whats up.
Forgive me for any ignorance, this is my first rodeo with the ONE. Thanks for the reply.
EDIT: Those KB's were for win 8, not 8.1. Says incompatible.

I've got a gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3. I used the asrock etron USB drivers. With those installed it will only work on USB 3.0. Here is a link
http://www.mediafire.com/download/wd9gy4yny0cx9g2/EtronUSB3(v0.118)Windows8.1.zip
The new ones from gigabyte are buggy for me and made my etron controller unrecognized. I wouldn't recommend using them.

Maybe check out main chipset manufacturer site or other boards with same chipset. On asrock it actually said for 8.1 which is why I grabbed it and it worked.

Strike 4. Seeing no 8.1 drivers for my controller.

The other thing you could do is to use a live CD to root your phone. Ubuntu 32 bit live CD works.

rooting
I got my droid razr m two days ago, and I am really interested in rooting it. I have never rooted before, so I know i have a lot to learn. I have read up on superoneclick and cryogenmod, but I cant find the phone listed there. I am assuming that is because its so new. Does anyone have any information that could get me started with rooting my phone?

Nope, need a developer version at this point to have an unlocked bootloader. This is just the drivers from pre-release... the Retail release are nearly identical (Link above). This does however have the flashing app which will come in handy if you don't have a developer login to Moto Mobility.

The bootloader in unlockable for the developer edition as well as the international version. But not for the $99 version.
As for "writable" part, once we have root, you should be able to access your system partition.

Driver Question
compnird - Cool to get straight USB drivers for RAZR M. Have had trouble with MDM on XP. Question - will these drivers apply to XP or just Win 7/8? My old flagship box is still on XP.
TIA,

Dang nobody gonna post the 64 bit drivers ? Can anyone convert the pre-release drivers to x64?
Thanx. Your a life saver!
These don't install on 64bit Windows 10.
Can someone point me in the right direction for the drivers I need? I can't find them anywhere.
Where I can download the firmware Sir?
Hello All,
I am running into a bizarre situation.
My XT907 has bad usb connector prints and I cannot connect it to computer to flash it using RDS etc.
It is on stock ROM (Not Rooted) and stuck on "Animated EYE"
"Wipe Data/ Factory reset" does not seem to work for me.
Nor It is getting update from the "SD CARD UPDATE"
Is there anyway i can use Update From SD card option (No Root)
I have Tried Many Stock Roms (Almost All Versions) using SD card, it only says
Android System Recovery <3e>
KDA20.62-15.1
--Install /sdcard ...

Oh ok. After reading about rooting our phone, Im confused about the whole "kies" thing. There is a stock "kies" app that came installed with my phone. So does that mean I have to go through that whole driver issue? Can someone explain this process a little further if so?
Your probably thinking of Samsung Kies for the computer. Windows version does not matter.
You do not need Kies if your going to root just download and install the ones they tell you in the post your reading.

[Q] Uhh... How do you root 4.2??

I just got this phone and the guy who had it accepted the OTA to 4.2 It's the sprint variant. I've skimmed a few threads and checked out the toolkit but it only seems to go to 4.1.2
Any help??

Alright maybe we can help with this lol
I have the drivers installed, It says Samsung ADB device or whatever in device manager.
I have usb debugging enabled.
I hold the up and down button and power
Should it say "fastboot usb" or just fastboot, On my evo it said fastboot usb when connected.
I have the galaxynexusroot package from the asian guy which simply contains fastboot.
I open command window where it's at.
And type "fastboot oem unlock"
And it just says waiting for device. I'm certain the drivers are there.
What's my problem?
If boss don Efrant's guide can't get you there then try Google or use the search bar in xda.

I've utilized all 3, Now after installing the drivers from PDAnet which we're suggested by Efrant it just says Android 1.0 under device manager and I can't seem to update it.
And still no luck the unlocking. obviously due to the drivers.
I have the Samsung ADB interface installed. Do I need another driver? It seems I do, But I can't get anything to stick when I go into Fastboot.

You can flash whatever rom you want after doing this.
Not sure if substituting the rom you want instead of the stock image will work. Try it and find out.

We seem to be miscommunicating.
I have a new Galaxy Nexus from Sprint updated to 4.2.1
I'm trying to get the drivers installed properly to be able to unlock the bootloader.
I'm in no shape to be flashing any rom I want, Without the drivers installed first.
From efrant's guide, which seems to apply in all situations: "Note that the driver has to install twice: once when your device is booted normally (not required for this tutorial) with USB Debugging enabled in Settings, and once when your device is booted in fastboot (i.e., bootloader) mode (which is required for this tutorial). "

I've done this, But it still just shows "Android 1.0" with an exclamation mark while in fastboot.
I've uninstalled everything and I'm about to try again and see if something goes right this time.

I'm trying to install the Universal Naked drivers right now, Window's find it but gives an error, It actually showed bootloader drivers too
It's saying
windows found driver software for your device but encoutered an error while attempting to install it.
google galaxy nexus bootloader interface.
the hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. the file is likely corrupt of the victim of tampering.
if you know the manufacter of your device, you can visit its website and check support section for driver software.
So.... What now.
Are you on windows 8? There are links to full write ups on the drivers in efrant's guide, pertaining to many different situations. With all the driver issues i've heard of, i'm glad to not need any!

Yeah I am on Win8 Which is bull****.
I'm not as new to this game as it may seem, And it barely makes any sense.
I've rooted many many HTC phones in my time.
I'm tempted to install windows 7 just to get this taken care of. But that's soooo much of a hassle.
Hope you found this and it does the trick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33463359&postcount=109
I'm now typing this message from Windows 7.
I'm willing to endure the hassle to get this beautiful device off from the stock rom
And I had already done that last thing you posted before anything else as soon as I realized that the drivers wouldn't even open to install
FINALLY got it thanks to Windows 7.

Bricked my Nexus 5X, installed the wrong Bootloader

Hi there,
an hour ago I tried to update my N5x with the latest image but installed the wrong Bootloader (the one from Nexus 5 which was still in the directory). Since then it doesn't boot and I only get a black screen. When connecting it to my PC, Windows detects QHSUSB__BULK but nothing else. There's no way the fastboot or anything else works. I googled a lot but didn't find a solution for my problem.
I wouldn't care about erased data. I just want to breathe new life into my Nexus 5X.
Thanks in advance!
I know there's a tool for the OPO (and possibly a few other Qualcomm based phones) that let's you restore the phone when this happens. I used it successfully on the OPO yesterday. It requires some low-level Qualcomm drivers, and a package containing a restore tool and factory images for the phone. No idea if this tool or another version made for the 5x could be used. Maybe someone else knows.
This is the tool for OPO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/tool-oneplusrecovery-tool-v1-0-restore-t2991851
Thanks, but unfortunately I didn't find one for the N5X. I understand there's one for the N5 but none for the N5X (yet?).

Quick question.

Hey guys, coming from a Nexus device and thinking about getting either the OnePlus 3t or the new 5, and I was wondering, for fastboot mode to work correctly, do I use google's usb driver from the sdk or do OnePlus devices have their own driver I need from somewhere else? Thanks and sorry for the quick noob question, I'm coming from a Nexus so it's a little different.

The drivers you have for Nexus devices should work fine with the OnePlus 3(T). I tested it myself, I don't need to switch drivers after getting the OP3, Fastboot detects it just fine with the old driver I had for Nexus 6P.

Awesome thanks! I hope to get the 5 when it releases! Those Pixel phones are just....... bleh. One more quick question, what is firmware all about? On a Nexus, you never had to worry about it at all for some reason, I notice with OnePlus devices, a lot of the rom threads say "make sure you have the newest firmware installed" and it's something I never had to mess with before. Thanks for all your help guys! Much appreciated!
With each OOS release there is a Firmware integrated, and if you switch to a custom ROM the firmware will not get updated so you need to flash it manually (there is a thread with all firmwares collected).

So simply put, just keep it updated yeah? Is there any harm in flashing a newer rom and keeping an outdated firmware?
I don't think it is a problem but the devs often test their rooms with the newest that's why they say you should use the newest, because they know it works

Drivers: The OP3 when connected to the PC/Laptop creates a CD drive on the PC/Laptop. It contains all the drivers you need for adb to work. As Puddi Puddin said, the minimal drivers themselves work, the CD drive is there just in case you need it.
Firmware: Some custom ROMs refuse to work without the firmware recommended for it. So just go by the recommendations of the developer and remember to check the firmware when you change/update the ROM.
