It was rooted & running starburst rom with data2sd
I just tried to get it S-OFF by using alpharev & vm method. see here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [TUTORIAL] How to S-OFF your HTC Desire
I got to step 3 and left it over an hour, on another page it says after an hour pull the battery so i did...
Now i got nothing, it goes to the white screen and i can select bootloader. Then fastboot/HBOOT does not work. I can access clockwork recovery but when i mount as usb windows says that the device has malfunctioned.
Have i totally broken this and should i just smash it up now or is there anything i can do??
Thanks!!
(sorry if this is in the wrong place, i tried to add to the alpharev thread but it wont let me!)

Have you tried alpharev using a normal cd iso or usb boot stick?

I tried using a virtual machine (VMWare method)

If you still have recovery try to reflash your rom or restore your previous nand backup
Sent from my Desire using XDA App

See my reply on Androidforums, should at least get you back to stock

I cant actually mount the phone as usb, it comes up as usb device unrecognised on my pc.
I have an old nandroid backup but cant get it on the phone..

[Q] unrevoked3

I tried searching for this but to no avail.. if some one here has better searchfu than me just point me in the right direction but here is my problem.
Im using a 2.2 android HTC desire from O2 I was following the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 here to Root it. I installed the Hboot drivers fine and got Unrevoked working as far as i can tell.
I launch it and it goes through the entire process of restarting my phone into Hboot and then restarting again and stabilising then It starts to root.. says sucess then quickly changes to say "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
It then stops there restarts the phone and has had no effect at all..
Any help will be wonderful

Are you trying to use Unrevoked forever? That only works on CDMA phones (no sim card). If you just want root and flash different roms normal Unrevoked is fine. To see if it went oke boot in to recovery and see if it says ClockworkMod recovery. If yes, everything is fine regarding rooting.
If after this you want to S-off and have a GSM (sim card) phone use AlphaRev.
Im using the version available from unrevoked.com which i belive is just unrevoked
As for booting into recovery i try that... all i get is the phone symbol with the red triangle and then dont get past that when i push power and vol up..

This man speaks the truth, unrEVOked forever won't work on the sim card Desire. I you should now have standard super user permissions. if you do want S-off you will need to go the alpha rev route.
tried using a diff version of unrevoked and this time it says failed to flash recovery image
I just went through all of this with my own phone a few days ago. from what I have learned and read Unrevoked will not give you Nand unlock.
Strange. I tried the latest unrEVOked (not forever) on my unbranded Desire, and did not have any errors like these (NAND unlock, unable to flash). I have:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
except the radio is 5.11.05.27
Hmmm could it be the radio causing the play up?

Maybe.
But i should give it a try. Download the latest unrEVOked from here:
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Also make sure, you have correctly installed the HBOOT drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
I do definitely have the latest version of both of those..
Hi folks, absolute novice here.
Apologies for replying to a very old thread, but I am having the same issue here with unrevoked - I simply cannot get my HTC Desire rooted.

You've searched too far back
Use the guides here to explain everything better: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
Follow it all the way through particularly terminology etc. Everything you need to know is there
Then use the guide to 's-off' using revolutionary. It doesn't technically root but will fully unlock your bootloader which is more powerful.

[Q] Black screen with htc logo and 4 warning triangles

Right i'm a bit of a noob at all this and have got myself in a bit too deep!!!
The problems started after applying the CM7 hboot and s-off with aplpharev. (which seemed to go OK)
After applying a new rom i got stuck in a boot loop so tried other roms from recovery and had the same problem, Nandroid also wouldn't restore.
I then decide it would be best to flash an RUU which went tits up and has lead to the black screen with 4 triangles in each corner. I have tried several other RUUs but no luck either. I also cannot boot in to recovery at all now.
When i plug and unplug the device to a pc, it gives the following info:
AlphaRev CM7 r2
Bravo PVT3 Ship S-Off
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

Pluging it in returns it to the black screen
I have trawled the forums but nothing seems to work (i have resorted to creating a thread after 2 days of trying things!)
Any chance of an idiots guide from a guru on how to get the device usable again? (bearing in mind my reasonably limited knowledge!)
I know there are many threads on this already but i can't seem to find a fix that works.
Ta Much
Can't look into this too much right now but I'm pretty sure your RUU flash failed because you're using the r2 version of that HBOOT which has something in it that prevents it from being over-written by the RUU. Try flashing the Downgrader HBOOT and then give the RUU a shot. Should get you back to stock.
Also, move this to the Q&A thread.
Boot in to fastboot then
plug in usb
Then run ruu. As administrator if you have windows 7/vista
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have same problem two days ago. Mine stuck at CM7 r2 partition while RUU need 250MB of system partition. After fighting around 4hours then I try to to flash HBOOT downgrader and then flash stock HBOOT then run RUU again.
Once alive I am rooting it again again and flash custom rom since I am not satisfied with original rom hahaha..
Sorry for my bad english.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You just need to flash the downgrader hboot to flash the ruu.. And only if you are using one of the new r2 hboots. The ruu will over write the hboot so no point in flashing the downgrader and then the stock.

How do i boot to fastboot (power and vol down doesn't do anything)?
I had same problem when running ruu to return to stock from rooted, soff etc.
Just unplugged, plugged back in and re-ran ruu then everything was ok.

Again, may be being stupid, but how do i flash the hboot the only screen i can access is the htc and 4 triangles?
try to cool down your device and flash again...
it sounds stupid, but it works for me.
i put my device without battery in fridge for 5 minutes, then i flash again and it works.
if the device warms up it stop working.
mine have hardware fault.

EDIT: Sorry been spending to much time of 4ch... :|
I'm going to make a big assumption the OP can't boot the phone into the OS, and can only get to the bootloader, but can't navigate. (given the complete lack of information provided)
In this case, I would probably run an RUU and get a good OS going. Run one of the newer 3.2 RUU's and it should update your HBoot as well... (hopefully)
At least that's what I would do

Half-bricked Desire

Hello everyone.
Recently I noticed a few problems with my Desire so I decided to send it for a warranty repair, so I had to come back to stock ROM. I was on:
Oxygen ZM
hboot 6.93.1002
microp 051d
dation 4.05.00.11
I just plugged my phone in fastboot mode and opened RUU on my PC. It went through and rebooted the phone. Unfortunately, it is now stuck on splash screen with HTC logo.
I don't know what to do now. Maybe the hboot version was too high?
I was thinking about installing new ROM but can't open recovery (when I'm in fastboot and click recovery it reboots on splash screen) and also the cable doesn't work at all. Can't use adb commands or charge the battery - it just acts like it isn't plugged in.
Please help. I'm a total newbie and don't want to brick my phone (I've read that if I can reach hboot it's not as bad)
Turn off the phone n hold volume down + power and post everything it says in bootloader menu.

Ur still s-off so try flashing new recovery via fasboot commands. Read bortaks guide in my sig, everything u need for fastboot is there, also download the 4ext recovery PB99IMG in my sig and extract it and ul have almost the latest 4ext recovery.img, thats what ul need to flash in fastboot.
Once uv fastboot setup on ur computer, put recovery.img in ur c:\ drive on ur computer then with ur phone off, hold back button + power (thats fastboot) then plug in ur phone (usb) and open command window and type -
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
If all okay then u should have recovery.
Read bortaks guide and the guide for ADB & FASTBOOT by SUroot. Everything u need is there

hey. thanks for your help. but as I said, I can't plug in my phone with USB - when I do it, nothing happens. I can't even charge my battery.
So, I've put this zip on my SD card and the bootloader asked me to update recovery. I clicked yes and it said done. But when I try to open the recovery, it still goes into splash screen
also, I can't try a lot of combinations because my battery could discharge and that would be a problem...
Does ur phone charge when its turned off and plugged into mains (wall)? If so charge it up first
The only other way to flash recovery is by fasboot commands.
There is a way to flash an ruu via PB99IMG but id make sure ur battery is full first
Sent from my HTC Desire
no, can't charge it. as I said in first post: "also the cable doesn't work at all. Can't use adb commands or charge the battery - it just acts like it isn't plugged in."

I don't think so, it worked fine until I made the RUU. It would be a huge coincidence.
so, anyone knows how to fix it?
anyone?...
c'mon! I'm sure someone can help me, it is not full brick!
U can run an ruu via PB99IMG but thats a risk coz u dont know how much battery u have left and if ur battery dies then ul probably be left with a full bricked phone

OK, so I will try to charge my battery with some other device (same phone or special charger) and try to do it. How much time does it take? I have about 15% battery left because I was running RUU on 30% (yup, that was stupid) do you think it's not enough? If it takes less than 5 mins, it should be OK.
edit: but... I've already run RUU and that's why my phone is bricked. What RUU should I run to make sure it will work? I don't know why this one didn't work. Was it because of hboot version or what?
U can use the 2.3 gb upgrade from htcdev. Heres a link to my dev host, file is there
http://d-h.st/d44
Then use Droidzones great guide
http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&sourc...fC74BQ&usg=AFQjCNGX60VvJTy6BOBkfKsZ9maoS-A_xw
Make sure ur battery is atleast 40-50% to be safe, bootloader wont let u run it anyway if its below 30%. It should only take 5 mins but the phone will need power to boot up fully aswell.

thanks, you're just great!
I thought it won't work because my hboot is too high or something but it really helped!
one more thing, just not to make another thread. do you know why when I try to reach my recovery it shows red "!" over a phone? is there a recovery in stock soft? I want my phone to look like it was brand new. how to get rid of "revolutionary" in hboot?
ehh.. now my PC doesn't see the phone (can't use adb commands, but it's charging) - GOD, WHY?

can you access the bootloader and did you make a backup. Or you can try flashing a ruu to return your phone back to stock. might not work but you can give it a try.
