Since I haven't seen the defy community post up the topic I thought I would get the ball rolling. So if you haven't heard flash 10.2 was leaked and if you love updates like me get it here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DLOVW630
Sorry for those on 2.1 this update is for froyo users.
Leave feedback on how this update performs on your device!
Installed on 145-2 Stock FROYO. Performance Ok, tried some pocketnow videos and no issues.
Nice! I hope we get the official soon...
Word is this update is only like a week premature. But I wouldnt get too excited...i dont really notice any major gain in performance in this update.
does motorola defy support full flash player on 2.2?
I've installed it and like it. Thanks.
I don't know why but performance is the same or a bit worser (no OC), but it's very stable, 2 days of using and it haven't crashed yet.

Well I would really like to know if someone found a fix to the bluetooth problems on cyanogenmod 6? Please if you know how to fix it let me know!!!!!

I think we are just supposed to wait for the CM guys to get it worked out. I bet they can do it. Hopefully we don't need to wait on an official Froyo release though (that day may never come....). I am sure that the CyanogenMod crew is eager to get bluetooth working, since it is a pretty major problem. I don't know about you, but it's illegal to use a phone while driving here, so BT is a must.
I'm just going to go back to a 2.1 OS with working bluetooth, and wait for the fix. I tried a few CM6 ROMs though and was impressed. I am into the CM6 ROM. My Quadrant scores WITHOUT overclocking were about double what I was getting with Factory 2.1 OS.
Anyway, thanks Cyanogen and everyone involved.
I sure hope this gets fixed. After trying every nightly build for the past few weeks I'm biting the bullet and going back to stock because I really need that BT headset while driving (illegal here too!).
Bluetooth is the absolute ONLY reason I'm not using a 2.2 ROM at the moment. Although I did notice really poor battery life on all 2.2 ROMs when compared to Chiefz OTA ROM.
Hi!
Does anyone know if there are plans for MIUI to be released on the Motorola Defy? I am using this Rom on my Desire and would very much love to use it on my Defy aswell...
Cheers
Korbi
To be honest, i dont see it happening. I would love for this to be ported but i think the defy only has 2 devs and they are both working on other projects. Needless to say, i would also like to run that rom on my pos vibrant haha.

That doesnt sound to promissing
But lets hope that the community of the defy will grow in the future - after all its a realy new device...
And MIUI lifts the "android-experience" to a hole new level, so i will keep my fingers crossed!
Miui is nice, I used to flash it on my desire, and it appears incredibly stable, except after a few days it gets buggy, fc's etc. I imagine it would be worse on the defy
It is quite a relief to just to have a phone that works without the constant, addictive - flash, restore, backup and wait for bugs and the next rom that may our may not fix them...process.
Froyo and gb would be great, but not essential- I am only missing flash (which barely worked anyway), jit, a few apps and my main want is the battery improvements in gb.

On my Desire MIUI runs very smooth. But of course you have to keep in mind, that it is still in beta phase. The final version is suppossed to be released in january. Than there wont be weekly releases...
And I cant imagine MIUI not running on the defy...
ok guys i am planning on buying defy but have a few doubts
1)does adobe flash 10.1(not flash lite) work on defy even on unofficial means like rooting flashing etc?
2) when can we expect official froyo on the device?
3)how is the gaming performance with high end games like raging thunder 2?
4)how is the battery life?
5)any critical flaws with the device?
thanks in advance
only had the phone a few day but this is what i can tell you answers in red
1)does adobe flash 10.1(not flash lite) work on defy even on unofficial means like rooting flashing etc? works with 2.1 for some things and comes with 2.2 and seems to be fine
2) when can we expect official froyo on the device? im running uk 2.2 froyo now very fast and everything works
3)how is the gaming performance with high end games like raging thunder 2?had the first one before i updated to 2.2 ran sweet as a nut don't know how much more demanding the second one is
4)how is the battery life? depends on how you use the phone but i charge mine once a day but i use it like all the time it usually has wifi on for at least 4-5hrs a day and im always playing with it or on the web
5)any critical flaws with the device? um not really or i haven't come across any yet
hope that helps cheers
Here the link on how to put flash on eclair: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-flash-10-1-on-android-2-1-eclair-devices/
The official update to froyo is planned for the Q2 2011, from march to june.
Games run really good on Defy, sometimes a bit of lag on heaviest, but for a while, if you overclock your device, no lag experience
Battery life it's normal, about 1 day with my (really heavy) use with wifi always on
No big problem, except earpiece fail on my device as many other here -.-

Thanks for the link, does anyone try it successful in the official Andriod 2.1 eclair with this Flash package? Thanks!
So, my motorola DEFY(T-mobile US) should arrive from ups in about twenty minutes. As i am new to android, i' m just looking for some recommendations as far as roms and anything else you think would be beneficial. I will provide any necessary info upon request.
thanks in advance.
A stable ROM is Pays and BlurlessGinger or, if you are more experimental, theres a beta of CM7 out
Sounds like a good start. Ill check it out. Thanks.

I actually wouldn't recommend diving right into custom ROMs especially since it's your first Android device. Give yourself time to familiarise yourself with the system - at least then you'll know when something isn't working as it should.
I believe the official Froyo ROM for US is already out so I would stick with that
Why rush? Just get use with your phone, see what you miss and what to look for.

stable and smooth
I say if you're ready - go for it right away (why wait...especially since the bootloader is locked and you can't fully brick your phone).
I am currently using CM7, but have been having some issues (which is norm considering it's in its infancy and beta stage).
I've pretty much used most if not all the roms on here, and my personal favorite has been jboogies liquidarc. I liked the different launcher (sony erickson), and had everything working (including full screen recording/pictures), and got about 4 days between charges with moderate use...super fast and stable for me...might be going back if I can't get around these bugs in CM7.
I'm not having any problems with cm7

Im running CM7 beta 3, which seems pretty stable and is extremely fast, but as a starter id recommend barebones 1.4 as it is stable and flies for 2.2
i started with "sbf 3.4.2_177-005_nordic" (first test)
then just installed cm7 beta 3 and i aint looking back..go for it..but i to would recommend getting to no your phone first..
I flashed my first sbf after 3 weeks and many readings in this forum, still affraid, what's going to happen. And it is my second android.
I can reccomend 2 roms I used myself: barebones 1.4 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989 , or 3.4.2_177-005_nordic found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1037076 . First one is modded and i can tell u it uses (with right vsel settings) very small ammount of battery per day, and second one is motorola blureless one, but with motolauncher if u like it. It is good and stable, but uses a little bit more battery. I already posted this in thread before this one. But please reconsider flashing first day, cos motrola avoids warranty if they find out u have flashed something other than official firmware. I flashed my first android first day when i got it with CM6, but it was HTC so u can restore everything back in a few minutes like u did nothing wrong. On motorola there is a chance u can make some mistake thus make it undowngradable. Give your phone few days, i would give 2 weeks to see if it functions propperly. In meanwhile read forums and suggestions, and when u are 100% sure u dont have deffective device, start flashing. Till than we shall have CM7 at stable and full working release, so it shall make it worth flashing over every other froyo.
Thanks for the feedback and recs guys! For those of you telling me to wait, I never was much for waiting.
I ended up using pays 5.1 Frito with gingerbread feel. I am having problems with swype tho and I like swype, so tonight I'm gonna flash again.

Hi,
I've been having some good luck with this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046027
I'd thank ephumuris but I can't post on that thread, yet.
Olly
Barebones 1.4 its the most stable I've tried, best battery by far. Fritolays is working on 1.5 based on the nordic rom.
I would sign up for the swype beta in preparation-the beta is better than stock, they have made some serious improvements, but make sure to read up first if putting it in a rom that has stock swype, there's a process.
Just for fun, I would recommend Anim Mod from the market to get awesome flip animations etc.
Swype not working..
not exactly a fan.. but swype doesn't seem to be working on Barebones 1.4 ,my first custom rom... ... Any inputs ???
If I get 9 smartass answers, one one "real" answer, that's fine with me.
I just want to know, and yes, Google is my friend, where the Dinc is with Android... fully-funtional Jelly Bean (saw CM10 nightlies), does it actually run well?
I'm wondering what the status of development is because I may pick up a new Dinc, I loved this phone and it's like $100 new in box now.
Thanks/**** you, depending on your response

Pons CM10 builds run great. Also have AOKP JB and several other nice roms. My Incredible isn't activated anymore, wifi only (actual phone is a Tbolt...interesting to say the least...) but I've been having great fun messing with the Inc lately. Still an awesome phone.

It's running great for me. One problem area is video, see my post here for more info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959610
For a more negative assessment of JB on the dinc, check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33218317&postcount=105
...read some more of that thread for discussion and comebacks related to those comments. It should get you a pretty good feel for where things stand currently.
I have been running Albionman's 4.1 on my DInc as a daily since Beta. I can still get it to choke and reboot once in a while (once a month) but the benifits of 4.1 outweigh the negatives.
I like it a lot better than the office CM7.2 with the boot screen that takes 2 minutes to load. I am interested in checking out CM10 eventually though.
Pon's CM10 builds run pretty damn well, but you could probably find a slightly newer phone for the money, depending on your carrier/contract situation.
There are several JB Roms to choose from. I have run Albinoman's JB RC 3, Pons AOKP and Pons CM10. All have pros and cons. I am currently running Pons CM10 as it is updated and a currently active thread
For truly stable - everthing works plus extras - I would run (I know its hard to go back): Condemned Soul or Pons CM7.2
Above, somebody linked to a discussion where I expressed my opinion of the current JB builds (on the Dinc). My last thought is really the most important. Nobody else can tell you if you are going to be happy with JB on the Dinc. And you won't know yourself until you get the rom installed, you get your preferred apps installed, and experience it.
Some people don't mind the reboots (or FCs) and they report JB is stable. Some cannot stand them and say JB is not ready yet.
Some people say bah, camcorder... never use it. Some people say it is an essential function.
Some people never watch videos. For some people video is important.
One person's "slow and laggy"... is another person's "smooth and responsive".
For some the new notifications and "google now" are most important...
bla bla bla...... yadda yadda yadda
And then there is another big question beyond the /system functions. There is app compatibility. Everyone uses different apps. Which ones are essential to any individual? Are they working? Are they working well?
...digression below...
I am patient for JB anyway... I know that I will get JB (and everything working) in January. Nexus 4 baby! Updates... custom roms... everything is going to work so much better in my future than it ever has on the Dinc!
I love the devs and thank them for their work and for what they have done for the Dinc. They have made my time with the Dinc so much better. But since gingerbread, all the roms have been all been crippled (despite the devs hard work) to some degree. No more of that situation for me... no thanks...
Goodbye and F*** OFF, Verizon. I will take google up on a better value in hardware than Verizon has ever offered! I will enjoy massive savings for my monthly service. I will enjoy the freedom and choices along with better quality custom and modified software. I'm just jealous my wife is going to get the nexus 4 before me.
there are 2 jellybean roms running pretty well on the Inc. The best is def Pons CM10 and it has been my daily driver for a few weeks now.
I've been dailing driving Albinoman's (with some tweaks) since Beta 2, and aside from the camera glitch ( work around exists) and the occasional chokeout from evernote, I'm very happy with it.
Im running Pons CM 10 since about october or november until now. It runs well for my dinc. Always getting better on each updates. There's always plus and minus for sure. But you can use it as a daily driver for your Dinc. Worth trying.
