Hi!
Does anyone know if there are plans for MIUI to be released on the Motorola Defy? I am using this Rom on my Desire and would very much love to use it on my Defy aswell...
Cheers
Korbi
To be honest, i dont see it happening. I would love for this to be ported but i think the defy only has 2 devs and they are both working on other projects. Needless to say, i would also like to run that rom on my pos vibrant haha.

That doesnt sound to promissing
But lets hope that the community of the defy will grow in the future - after all its a realy new device...
And MIUI lifts the "android-experience" to a hole new level, so i will keep my fingers crossed!
Miui is nice, I used to flash it on my desire, and it appears incredibly stable, except after a few days it gets buggy, fc's etc. I imagine it would be worse on the defy
It is quite a relief to just to have a phone that works without the constant, addictive - flash, restore, backup and wait for bugs and the next rom that may our may not fix them...process.
Froyo and gb would be great, but not essential- I am only missing flash (which barely worked anyway), jit, a few apps and my main want is the battery improvements in gb.

On my Desire MIUI runs very smooth. But of course you have to keep in mind, that it is still in beta phase. The final version is suppossed to be released in january. Than there wont be weekly releases...
And I cant imagine MIUI not running on the defy...

So, my motorola DEFY(T-mobile US) should arrive from ups in about twenty minutes. As i am new to android, i' m just looking for some recommendations as far as roms and anything else you think would be beneficial. I will provide any necessary info upon request.
thanks in advance.
A stable ROM is Pays and BlurlessGinger or, if you are more experimental, theres a beta of CM7 out
Sounds like a good start. Ill check it out. Thanks.

I actually wouldn't recommend diving right into custom ROMs especially since it's your first Android device. Give yourself time to familiarise yourself with the system - at least then you'll know when something isn't working as it should.
I believe the official Froyo ROM for US is already out so I would stick with that
Why rush? Just get use with your phone, see what you miss and what to look for.
i'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037076
stable and smooth
I say if you're ready - go for it right away (why wait...especially since the bootloader is locked and you can't fully brick your phone).
I am currently using CM7, but have been having some issues (which is norm considering it's in its infancy and beta stage).
I've pretty much used most if not all the roms on here, and my personal favorite has been jboogies liquidarc. I liked the different launcher (sony erickson), and had everything working (including full screen recording/pictures), and got about 4 days between charges with moderate use...super fast and stable for me...might be going back if I can't get around these bugs in CM7.
I'm not having any problems with cm7

Im running CM7 beta 3, which seems pretty stable and is extremely fast, but as a starter id recommend barebones 1.4 as it is stable and flies for 2.2
i started with "sbf 3.4.2_177-005_nordic" (first test)
then just installed cm7 beta 3 and i aint looking back..go for it..but i to would recommend getting to no your phone first..
I flashed my first sbf after 3 weeks and many readings in this forum, still affraid, what's going to happen. And it is my second android.
I can reccomend 2 roms I used myself: barebones 1.4 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989 , or 3.4.2_177-005_nordic found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1037076 . First one is modded and i can tell u it uses (with right vsel settings) very small ammount of battery per day, and second one is motorola blureless one, but with motolauncher if u like it. It is good and stable, but uses a little bit more battery. I already posted this in thread before this one. But please reconsider flashing first day, cos motrola avoids warranty if they find out u have flashed something other than official firmware. I flashed my first android first day when i got it with CM6, but it was HTC so u can restore everything back in a few minutes like u did nothing wrong. On motorola there is a chance u can make some mistake thus make it undowngradable. Give your phone few days, i would give 2 weeks to see if it functions propperly. In meanwhile read forums and suggestions, and when u are 100% sure u dont have deffective device, start flashing. Till than we shall have CM7 at stable and full working release, so it shall make it worth flashing over every other froyo.
Thanks for the feedback and recs guys! For those of you telling me to wait, I never was much for waiting.
I ended up using pays 5.1 Frito with gingerbread feel. I am having problems with swype tho and I like swype, so tonight I'm gonna flash again.

Hi,
I've been having some good luck with this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046027
I'd thank ephumuris but I can't post on that thread, yet.
Olly
Barebones 1.4 its the most stable I've tried, best battery by far. Fritolays is working on 1.5 based on the nordic rom.
I would sign up for the swype beta in preparation-the beta is better than stock, they have made some serious improvements, but make sure to read up first if putting it in a rom that has stock swype, there's a process.
Just for fun, I would recommend Anim Mod from the market to get awesome flip animations etc.
Swype not working..
not exactly a fan.. but swype doesn't seem to be working on Barebones 1.4 ,my first custom rom... ... Any inputs ???
Hey guys i have been thinking that since i am starting school i realized that i have been spending waaaaay too much time messing with my phone so i was thinking on settling with one rom for a while and no longer flash a new one.
I have used MIUI, CM, sense, and such. I love them all but i think sense is just too slow for me the others i am ok with.
Currently i am torn between ILWT's rom but it is constantly updated and may have a few bugs in it as it is based on CM and i have not used it long enough.
G-Lite looks cool havn't used it yet but i am looking for a rom thats rock solid so i remembered this guy.
MeXDroid mod, have used this one alot and like it.
So i want to know what you guys think is a good long term rom to use? (you can even list one thats very good even if its not one of the three and eevn sense if it runs fast and stable (alot of features is a plus =D)
Oh and battery liife is also really. Immportant. Was in a rush and forgot that...

I use tsubus' ILWT and I have not experienced a single bug. My updates have been flawless and my battery life is superb. I'm also in school and his ROM has been so unproblematic it hasn't disrupted my studying whatsoever.

I understand where you are coming from. You get that crackflasher bug, and start to twitch when there's a delay on your nightly.
I would grab the latest nightly (ILWT has been an excellent ROM), and try it out. Barring any major bugs, just stick with it. I haven't been having any problems with the latest CM7 or ILWT Nightlies, so in my opinion, they make excellent "daily driver" ROMs, with no need to update them all the time.
We are also very close to a CM7.1 final release, so if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can wait for that. Should be announced in the next day or so.
Since a lot of stuff is still wonky/glitchy, and the ICS ports are still not perfect.
Is the point of getting ICS just to say you have it?
Or are there certain advantages to running ICS that I am not aware of?
I am on ILWT btw.
Why run ILWT?
Biggest reason I run it is because the UI to me is THAT much better than GB or anything else I've used. The ROMs are stable enough, fast enough, and include all the features I need to get by day to day.
This sounds more of a troll post, but meh.
I've been running ICS since Andromadus alpha 1, and as a DD since alpha 4. Yes there have been several glitches (alpha 5 was unusable) and several things broken such as the camera, but running an alpha or beta build is what produces the feedback and usage stats the devs need to make a great RC. It also kicks the OEM's in the tail to release drivers and possibly new roms for our devices if the devs AND users can illustrate a need. Aside from that, ICS can renew an aging device with new functionality and refined looks. I've rediscovered my own aging device, and for the first time started to realize its capabilities as a real, almost tablet-like, computing device and not just an alarm clock or a way for telemarketers and my wife to bug me.

It is not a troll post. I am running ILWT because it is stable, fast, and the battery life is great.
If I am not going to use the stock ICS ui, then should I even bother switching to ICS?
Like, I have a custom Go Launcher theme that is pretty damn sick, and I never use the stock apps for anything except stock market...

I must say the ICS Roms are much smoother than any other rom I've ever used and I've had a single hot reboot since first DD worthy release. Battery isn't remarkable but that is cause they haven't been optimized yet, stabilize then optimize. In your case I might wait more for optimized, but hey! Nandroid, wipe, install and try it a bit, you may just fall in love !
That is sound advice, noneabove.
Yes, I do believe the best thing to do at this point is for me to stfu and try it.
ICS ROMS are great. The best reason in my opinion is for developing/ testing purposes. They are smooth and stable.
Sent from my HTC Vision Ice Cream Sandwich
i flash every update to test it but its a looong way from me using it.
not as stable, not as funtionable, not as good batterylife and right now, not the same performance.
so i use ILWT for same reasons as you until the ICS roms are atleast as good.
i figure that there are enough people reporting bugs anyway, they dont need me.
atm im using cm7.2 on everyday basis but i do like to test other/newer roms to see if they might got some additional functionality i could need..
like actualy usb host mode what doesnt seem to work on cm7.. ive read it should work from ics on so im happy projects like virtuousrom exist to im able to try
Hello,
G2 owner here, I am considering flashing a new rom onto my not so tech savy friends Desire HD. I'm wondering how good the experience of the JB roms is? On the G2 the roms are unusable but it's certainly not a good experience, lots of random slow downs and lag, plus the camera quality sucks. I'm wondering if that is much the same on the DHD.
Would you flash a JB rom onto your Mum's phone, or would you stick with CM7? Consistent random slow downs / lag plus sub par camera quality isn't acceptable!
Also, if someone has a nice clear guide handy for rooting and installing recovery from 2.3 a link would be appreciated
Thanks!
I think you should be here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=750.
Good luck!

Sorry my bad! I am a G2 owner, but I am looking at flashing a rom onto my friend DHD. -- updated the OP
whilst the jb roms are very stable, i wouldnt recomend them for a complete technaphoab. better safe than sorry.
on the other hand, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968854 this is very good, but synergye(lead dev) is focusing more time on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003273 this.
the sense interface is very basic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839004
and if you want the mind numbing simplicity of ios, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991558 (i havent tried this one yet though)
as always, read the threads first
Hard to tell, depends what they use... JB ROMs (and ICS) are really stable. No reboots or crashes. Really. There are small minor bugs, but I suppose most of the people wouldn't notice them, since not all people use all functionality. I.e. I wouldn never notice Bluetooth bug since I never use it, etc.
Now, IMHO, the best combination is JT plus KangBang kernel 1.9 stable. It works great, really smooth and fast. I have really a lot of apps and everything works just fine. With KB kernel, at least on my device, I can overclock to more than 1.2Ghz, i.e. 1.5, and it really works well. 4.1.2 is the best Android for me, fastest. I also have Nexus 7 and now that I have 4.2.1 I see how slower it is compared to 4.1.2. But Nexus is so fast that it doesn't matter. On DHD it might, because it is only single core. I tried CFX also and I had lockups and slowdowns. It is also stable, but would just stop responding for me from time to time.
But all in all I would make a backup of your current ROM (stock) and go for JB/KB combo. The only downside for me is battery life, which is worse than stock, but that doesn't happen on all sets (go figure).
D.
Broke my current phone and will have to use my old Desire for a couple of weeks. Last time I used it I remember Oxygen based roms were the fastest by far. Is this still true, or is the new kitkat a true contender?
I tĥink I used a rom called nicks phone.. anyone still use it? Although when I booted up the phone a few minutes ago it had Mildwild on, but totally unconfigured so I dont think ive really used it. Seems a bit sluggish though so i will want to install something else.
So I guess super fast and snappy are my only wishes. Old or new version of android, extra features, etc doesnt matter.
As a general rule, gingerbread AOSP ROMs were 'fastest' and most stable for Desire
As a more universal rule however, it's better to try different ROMs for your usage and preferences. Others can only really give their experiences with different setups etc, and their definition of fast, stable, "amazing battery" will differ massively.
- Nandroid backup
- Full wipe install new rom
- Test
- (Optional: repeat/restore backup)
- Make up mind
I used to care about getting the latest android version, but ICS and beyond the camera was unusable and everything was just laggy. I moved back to gingerbread and have been using mildwild's rom based on oxygen for over a year. It doesn't contain very much customization, but its stable and as snappy as we're going to get on such an old phone. No one's really developing for the desire anymore so I've decided to just stop playing around with other roms since this one doesn't give me any problems. Here's a link to the rom

Thanks, just the kind of input I was looking for. Just flashed the rom and the update andit seems Lightning fast. But I cannot start Play store as it crashes. Did you experience this issue?
Could I just flash latest gapps on this install?
Had to remove the Mildwild rom because there was no way to fix Play store. Ended up installing the rom Nicks Phone instead. Blazing fast and everything works perfect. Its also based on Oxygen and I really recommend it.

Try a stock rooted rom with a2sd. E.g Gingerbread 2.3.3, there are many available and everything works.
Cheers
I'm using official oxygen ROM and it's still by far the fastest. Kk Roms all slow down and become unstable after a few days.

Someone can give me link to oxygen rom i cant find working mirror
I can't remember where I found it. I had to search a bit. Took me even longer to find the track pad to wake mod.
I would upload a copy but I don't have a home internet plan and am really low on data right now.

For me, evervolv has done a great job. Here is the link
It is almost as snappy as oxygen and plus it has the latest android technology. No added lag after a few days whatsoever.
If Nikez fixes the kernel to be a 3.x one I think we will have a winner.
So for me, Oxygen comes first and Evervolv's KitKat comes second in terms of performance.
But I still have updated to Evervolv since Desire is now a good backup device for me that I use as a GPS etc.
I'm still on oxygen. Weeks now as my daily driver work phone and it's fast and stable. Leaving my n5 at home to keep it safe.
Unless someone can honestly say that stability has changed leaps and bounds in the past couple months then I see now point in going through the frustration of any regularly crashing kk rom on the desire. I think it's come as far as possible and just can't run the new stuff.
I'm really hoping the newer stuff like my n5 will be different and able to work reliably in a couple more years on up to date software. Hardware wise my desire is holding up like new after almost 4 years. I hate to toss it while its still good.
