Cyanogen 7.0 rc1 MMS issue - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to make an official thread asking about the MMS issue with CM7. I've searched and searched but could not find any answers, or at least none that helped.
First of all, when I try to send a picture message through handcent, it just keeps showing that its sending, and never actually sends.
I've downloaded the MMS.apk and installed it, but still doesnt work. I've also made sure that data is enabled. Still will not send.
Between this and the gps not really working, I'm not sure how long I'll stay with this rom, even though I absolutely love everything else about it.
I'm going to try a clean wipe of everything and install rc2, and see if that fixes anything.

I was going to say, try updating to CM7 RC2 or nightly 14, as they have the mms fix. Also with handcent, set the split at 16o characters to make it send faster, and when you send mms messages, turning on 3G helps.

I had this same problem. The mms.apk would hold a wake lock after trying to send any mms. It would just try and send forever. Someone was kind enough to provide a solution for me. I can't remember exactly what file you have to delete, but search the cm7 nightly thread.
I'll try and find the exact file. Hold on.
Try this.
You can try to delete this file:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
Then reset the phone.
This worked for me. The stock mms.apk still won't send for me, but handcent has no problems after deleting that file.

Well that worked! Thanks for the advice.
I'm happy this worked for me, hopefully others can see this too.

Did you follow the steps to "fix" GPS?
There are many posts about this on the CM & XDA forums. It involves installing a sense rom and using a ##GPSCLRX# code.

CM7 help plz

I'm on the latest CM7 and just noticed an annoying bug. I am unable to receive MMS text. Friends have sent me picture files via text and when I attempt to download them it is unsuccessful. Any fix to this issue?
How did you install?
You also have auto retrieve on, along with 3G/wifi/4G enabled when receiving an mms?
Also, sometimes flashing to a Sense based ROM, and doing a Profile/PRL update works for people. Other times, it's just something being stupid on Sprint's end.
Try re-wiping everything and reflash the rom

[Q] Can't receive texts after last Thursdays radio update

EDIT: Problem Solved
Downloaded Stock Sense 2.2 from here, flashed into that, Reset Data Connection in EPST (Like Here), rebooted and flashed back to CM7. Simple as that!
I realize this may be a bit of repeat thread, But I haven't really got an answer yet.
For reference: I'm running Cm7
Sometime during the day last Thursday, I lost the ability to receive texts. I can send texts, as well as make/receive calls, and data works fine as well. I just can't send them.
Things I've tried include:
Flashing to Stock Sense 2.3
Updating PRL/Profile
Manually installing Radio/PRL/Profile updates
Flashing to a fresh CM7 Install
I also feel like I should add that I tried to open EPST to reset data, but when I enter the code(##3282#) in Phone I get nothing.
Any help would be appreciated, and I'll be on until late tonight as to not keep responders waiting. Thanks.
Go to stock rooted 2.2 or MikG or a custom ROM with the old EPST, the new EPST features less. I just do it on stock 2.2 to avoid any problems when doing the restore. My radios are working, did you flash them individually?

Okay
Downloading MikG right now, going to give that a try.
And I think that may be part of my problem, I just can't get the radio to update. I've attempted to install them as a combo, and separately in both ClockworkMod and Amon_RA several times. I never get any error messages, it just installs, and tells me to reboot, but nothing ever changes.
That's why I'm going to try to Reset Data in EPST. I had heard elsewhere that my MSL doesn't match what Sprint has on file, or something like that, and that resetting data should fix this.
Anyway, Thanks a lot, I'll be back in 10-15 minutes with results!
Partial Success
As soon as Stock 2.2 booted up and got to setup, the texts started pouring in. Not sure what caused this, but it seems at this point like a Gingerbread issue. For good measure I opened EPST and did a data reset and updated PRL/Profile. I'm about to flash back to CM7 and see if the changes carried over.
It worked! It was that simple all along! Thank you! Just sent myself a text via email that I received on CM7!

If you rebooted in between installing each one, the radios should've updated. You might not notice any difference, but it should work. Glad to hear that your problem is solved!

[Q] Generic network failure... HELP!

Let me start by saying, I have searched all of the treads for my phone, and the ones suggested before posting a new one, with no luck. I also searched all over other sites for an answer, about 3 hours now, and still nothing that quite fits my problem..
I have a Verizon HTC Inc2
-running 2.3.4
-Virtuous Unity v2.39.0
The problem I keep running into is that whenever I flash a new rom, or do a factory reset with clockworkmod, I can never get my phone to send or recieve MMS. It always says, generic network failure. I have tried with the HTC messages app and handsent app, both failed. The data icon in the notification area usually does not even show activity. I tried wiping the cache several times, restarts, changing data and wifi settings but to no avail. Funny thing is, I can restore my phone to the first backup I made, Gingerbread 2.3.3, and then MMS works.
Any ideas as to what may be happening? I can give you any additional info you need or ask as well. I'm not a total noob, but I feel like one right now. I just can't figure this one out on my own. Thanks!

General Network Error is when the system returns an error stating that you have no connectivity to send a message or an MMS (at least from my experience w/ it). I have this issue a lot with any messaging on my end because of shoddy reception. Which other ROMs besides Virtuous are you flashing that are giving this error? I know for a fact the CM7 has been having a LOT of issues with data connectivity. The last ones I remember hearing about with working data is #79 (or was it #80, I can't remember) and #85 and for a few people, #92.
I do have plenty of reception, always around 2 to 3 bars. Sorry I worded that wrong in my post, Virtuous is the only and first rom I flashed. I did it because Verizon OTA updates kept freezing my phone and I would get the blue android with the !. What I meant was, even when I did a factory reset, my MMS wouldnt work. First time I got that error, I was able to use bootloader and make a backup of eberything, then did a factory reset/wipe data and thats when I first noticed MMS was not working. So I copied the backup to my laptop, did another factory reset and format SD card, then I copied the backup to my card again, and did a restore with that backup. I restored data, cache, system, and boot I believe, and everything was back to normal and MMS was working. Unfortunetly I kept getting the OTA updates and each time, same problem, so this morning I read on a forum that a custom rom would prevent OTA updates, so I flashed Virtuous. I just found it odd that a normal factory reset, with no custom rom, would prevent MMS.
One more thing, not sure if its related, but I keep recieving messages from #6250 that say "VZWNMN: 1." Google searched that, most responses in forums are people saying they get the same thing and that Verizon told them they know nothing about it..
Have you tried a different radio?

People on CM were complaining of the same exact issue. They'd get bars of reception but MMS was just broken. I was just stating that when I try to send a message thru verizon and not google voice, I often get the same error message you're getting, which means that the data is being prevented from going out. I probably should've clarified that a little better lol. When you installed Virtuous, did you do a wipe data/cache and a wipe dalvik cache?
Also, if you restore back to your Gingerbread 2.3.3 that's rooted and your MMS is working fine there, then I don't believe it could be your radio. A possibility would be the kernel, but I doubt that Virtuous would package a kernel that would crash the MMS function. And since it's any SMS/MMS app, that knocks out the possibility of it being application based. The only thing I can suggest, would be to test out another ROM. If you're looking for sense based roms, go for BAMF's (http://www.teambamf.net) or Newt's Incredible 2 HD (http://www.themikmik.com). If you're looking for an AOSP based rom, go for CM7 (found on ROM Manager or at http://www.cyanogenmod.com) or MIUI (ROM Manager again, or http://www.miuiandroid.com). If you want a hybrid, I would suggest Skyraider Zeus (http://www.teambamf.net) or Gingersense (it can be found in the development portion of XDA). Remember when you flash a rom for the very first time, I'm sure you know this already, but you need to backup your rom first and then wipe data/cache and wipe your dalvik cache. Not doing either wipe before installing a brand new rom for the first time can cause unforseen errors.
Ok I found the answer while actually looking for new radios, so thanks for the post! haha
For all you out there who might run into the same problem, this is the solution I found..
Instructions to fix MMS (by xelsewherex)
1.Go to the market and download apn backup and restore (Market Link APN B&R).
2.Create a folder on your sdcard named APNBackupRestore if it doesn't exist already.
3.Copy this file, ht tp://db.tt/9Ao5ErR, to APNBackupRestore folder (If you aren't doing this on desktop, hit menu now in xda and choose browser. File is an xml and your phone will not know what to do with it. Long press the link and use 'save link'). This is an XML doc, sorry but since I'm new I can't just post a link, just remove the spaces between ht and tp.
4.Run APN Backup Restore and press Delete Apns and then Restore from the downloaded file.
5.You should be good to go from there. MMS should now work and the softkey lights do as well.

Two problems I cannot figure out, please help! :(

I tried looking around for the answers on the boards, but I have two issues which seem to happen with every rom I use now.
First, I cannot get rid of that annoying voicemail icon that is just there. I use google voice and I dont understand why that thing is there.
The second problem just started happening recently, everyone that calls me shows as unknown?! I never had this problem and im curious if anyone knows how to fix it /.. Thank you so much and sorry if this was answered before.
GPS problem...
Hello. I'm a noob, so please be patient with me. I have a SGH-T989D (Galaxy S2X from Telus) that I've rooted a week ago. I'm currently running Mr. X's DARKSIDE UCLE BETA07.1 rom. Everyting is snappy, I have WIFI, 4G/LTE connexion. My only problem is the GPS. I've tried also the DARKSIDE TLLE4 v1 rom version, with the same problem. I've done a superwipe, clean cache and Dalvik cache, BEFORE installing everything (the rom and the radios). I've let the phone sit after first boot WITHOUT touching the screen or anything for at leat 15 minutes and rebooted. The only thing I can't figure out is the get the GPS working. When I do a *#2263# on the dial pad of the phone to set it to automatic, I get a MENU NOT EXIST, PRESS BACK KEY and Current command is 187211. May be it is a APN problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I've read the posts, but didn't find the solution. By the way, I also tried the stock rooted telus version of ICS from this site, with the same results. Thanks in advance for your help. Mr. X's rom are great! I will try to contribute as soon as possible (with my modest means).
I've experienced both of those problems. The voicemail thing was solved when I went into Google voice's settings and uncheck "voicemail display". It shouldn't integrate into the native voicemail anymore.
The unknown caller thing happened on darkside 3 v4 I think. I have a tmobile sgs2 do it was the newer version based off the official kernel. That was a known bug he fixed in the next release, but it went away for me in a day or so. I know you said it happens on all the roms you try, so that's really strange and I'm not sure what it could be. But for me it was the one rom.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Ok I should be clearer, maybe not all roms, but recent roms I tried (ics)
I played with the Darkside as always but I also tried cm9 and few others.
For the mailbox icon, I tried playing with google voice and had everything unchecked for notifications and the damn thing is still there - this is not a big issue I guess, but the unknown caller is sort of annoying since I like to know who is calling me hehe

This might depend on if your in the states or not but i have a solution that i saw posted somehwere that works for me...
With Root explorer navigate to /system/etc then look for a file named gps.conf...longpress on gps.conf and open in text editor (make sure you click the Mount R/W tab in top right corner) and 4th line down should be NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org rename it to NTP_SERVER=us.pool.ntp.org and should be golden after that. :good:
Thanks. I will take a look at that file in the system.
---------- Post added at 06:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
I've tried the gps and it works ! But only with the data (4G/LTE) on... weird... but it works. Now, to the first part of my first question, why can't I change the configuration of the phone when typing *#2263# ? It says it is on automatic, but if I want to change it, I get error messages like thew ones I posted in my first message. Is there something wrong with my rooting ? Or permissions ? (I checked permissions and everything seems to be fine though...) Currently running Darkside TLLE4 V1. Everything works good besides that...

no in/out texts or inc. calls after cm9 rc1 install

I've searched, so please forgive me if there's something similar. I've found nothing that solves my issue. I have freshly installed cm9 a couple days ago, and then shortly after upgraded to 10. That is where my woes began. Friends and fam started telling me that my phone would ring onced and straight to vm. I get texts in huge batches, a lot of repeats, and very unreliably. I've installed a few other different roms and kernels to no avail. And yes I've wiped everything, every time. My 3g/4g/wifi are fine.. just texts and calls messed up. What's happeninggg =[[[[. Is my radio corrupted or something? How can I fix this?
First: This is a support question and should have been posted in the Q/A forum.
Second: You should probably not install the RC of CM9, since CM9 is now stable and has an official release. http://get.cm/?device=epicmtd&type=stable
Third: Before flashing CM, use Odin to go back to stock and test out SMS, MMS and calls. If all works well, then you can Odin flash CWM, pull the battery, 3-finger boot to CWM and then flash CM9 stable.
If testing SMS, MMS and calls do not work properly on stock, then you need to go to a Sprint store and get them to fix it. Just leave it on the stock rom to bring it in.
