hi, if I apply the ota from the SD as is described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10223288&postcount=3
the DHD will lose all app/data/contacts ?
this is not for me since I'm already in 1.72, my friend don't care about root but they have a exchange activesync connection problem with 1.32
I don't have this problem with 1.72
thanks
Everything that is on the handset will be lost.
Contacts should be sync'd with Google, double check first.
Paid Apps can be downloaded again free of charge.
It's only really settings that will have to be individually re-set.
are you sure since it's not the 280mb full "RUU/rom" but the 40mb ota file ?
thanks anyway.
A few months ago, I downloaded an OTA (about 37.7Mb) to my SD Card for the 1.84blahblah firmware update ("Arabic Support" etc) and applied/installed it later on with no loss of anything whatsoever.
Not sure what andyharney means...
Going from 1.32 to 1.72 will erase everything on the handset. That's what I mean.
Everything that is not on the handset, contacts, access to your paid apps etc... Will not be lost.
I have made a try but the update don't start, I have this error just after the triangle with a exclamation mark ! (the step 6 on the linked post on my first msg)
E: can't find cache/recovery/command (or can't open cache/recovery/command I'm not sure sorry)
if I do Apply sdcard:update.zip the same error came
any advice ?
No tips / hints about this error message ?

Hi Guys,
Im new to this forum but was hoping i can get some help, i read all the related articles before submitting my case so here goes.
On 1st August 2010 i got a OTA update from HTC for the HTC Desire Unbranded handset.
I downloaded the update over wifi onto my sd card. Then it asked do you wish to install the update so and so so i said 'install now', it performed some backup operations but it said failed to backup settings and automatically restarted the phone.
I got a green bar on the phone so i assumed this was the update in progress. It got to the end and restarted again and i got another green bar. That got to the end and it finally said on the black white htc screen congratulations you have installed the updated so and so.
The phone started.
I realised my sim card was blown away from this update, lost my apn settings, sim card was totally blown. So i called Orange. Told them to send me a new sim card. Anyway prior to me realising about the network. The phone rebooted almost 50 times god knows what it was doing, and eventually i got so mad i switched it off.
Anyway i got a sim card from orange but this problem is not seem to go away, it keeps restarting on its own and i dont have a clue why?
Here are the apps i have installed:
Advanced Task Manager
Aloqa
APN Backup & Restore (decided to get this after first incidence all my apn settings were blown away)
AppBrain
Apps Installer
Aweson Drop
Better Keyboard
Bollywood Hindi Radio
Call filter
Es File Explorer
Extended Controls
Fring
Goggles
Gtasks
Handcent SMS
London Tube Status
Lookout Security
Wave Secure (uninstalled this thought this was the problem)
MP3 Download
Orange Wednesdays
PicSay Pro
Ringtone Randomiser
Sky News
Toss it
The weather Channel
Zedge
Launcherpro
Mybackup pro
Now i unistalled wavesecure thought it was the problem but im still having the problem. When i start My ATK i see there is almost 30 processes running of allmost all the apps when i have not even started them, before when i had 2.1 this never happened and im confused about this.
To be honest. Ive tried tried no result. I even called HTC support they told me to Hold the volume rocker down and power to go into the boot menu and select clear storage i did this.
I put all my phone back together from backup files and settings as everything was erased. Still the phone is restarting on its own.
Any solutions i can try people any help would be appreciated.
Check on your SD card if the update is ~90MB (not branded).
The OTA my phone pulled was about 50MB, but when I googled the filename and re-downloaded the file on my PC the actual size was 90MB. The phone had downloaded just over half of the OTA and went ahead with the update, only to break just about everything. I guess a warning sign was the backup of my settings had an error, and that the update took ages. The real hint that everything was broken was when the phone didn't ask for my SIM pin, had no wifi and rebooted itself every few minutes.
Ended up wiping the phone and hacking the 1.21 WW full RUU ROM back onto the phone, then updating to the 2.09 OTA downloaded on the PC (via reboot > recovery > update.zip).
Hi, i have been looking to upgrade htc desire 2.2, but i have not found anything here. As i am on t mobile i think its different upgrade i should be looking
so please help me to find the link to upgrade to 2.2 also is there any way i can use my sd card for my applications installation
thanks to all
What version you on at present (as in software version, e.g. 2.29.405.2)?
Thank you for your reply
my software number is 1.15.110.11
thanks
Wow, old software...
Right, first thing is download this file:
http://www.filefront.com/16813093/O...10.4-1.15.110.11-release0grz58nlwns0d5mw.zip/
Once downloaded, rename the file update.zip (not update.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card. Once done turn the phone off. Now, whilst holding volume down, turn it back on - if done correctly it will bring you to a white screen with some options. Once you can use the volume buttons to move to Recovery and press power to select. Once you're loaded to the black screen with the ! hold volume up and press power. Now, on the blue menu select 'apply sd:update.zip' and follow the instructions. This will update you to 1.21.110.4
Once done and rebooted go to Settings>About phone>System software updates>Check now and it should offer you 2.12.110.4 - allow it to update and you're now on Android 2.2
THANK YOU EddyOS,
I HAVE COMPLETED UPTO THE BLUE SCREEN BUT EVERY TIME I RUN UPDATE.ZIP IT ENDS UP INSTALLATION ABORTED. ANY IDEA PLEASE
What did you name the file you downloaded? it HAS to be update.zip (or just update as you won't see the .zip in Windows)
i did rename the file update.zip, should i clean up my memory before try this again ? because i have no internal memory left.
Possibly, you do need at least 25MB free I think. You could just boot into Android and check for system updates as that update should be available to you I just thought it'd be easier to do it using the file directly
i am going to check my internal memory , btw how can i update on second option (boot in to android)
thanks
i checked , i have 39 mb of internal memory , but still aborting
message coming up ''signature verification failed''
So if you check in Android for updates do you get anything?
The other way to update to 1.21.110.4, but will involve losing all data, is to download this and flash it through Windows:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
To use it, connect the phone to the PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the menu on the phone. Make sure HTC Sync is installed and showing connected on the PC and then run the RUU file
when i restared it last time , i get the message to update using wifi , i am doing it now will let you know the results
We have done it ......now its showing
android version 2.2
software number is 2.12.110.2
is there anything else i can do ?
Like install all the apps in to my sd card.
And do i need rooting ? What are the advantages ?
Thank you
Hmmm, that was the old T-Mobile update - check for updates one last time as there is now 2.12.110.4
You can now only install apps to the SD is allowed/enabled by the developer, e.g. Angry Birds installs to the SD by default.
You don NEED to root unless you wanna install tons of apps as you'd need A2SD+ which moves ALL apps to the SD card. Read up on all the sticky threads in the forums and go from there but first of all just enjoy FroYo
THANK YOU EddyOS,
I HAVE UPDATED TO 2.12.110.4, ITS MUCH FASTER THEN PREVIOUS ONE.
ONE LAST QUESTION, IF I GO FOR ROOTING MY DEVICE , WILL I LOOSE DEFAULT HTC INTERFACE, I.E WEATHER WITH CLOCK ETC ?
THANKS
If you decide to go for a non-Sense ROM then yes. Just go read up on it all but if you don't know what rooting is then don't do it until you do...just use the phone and see how you get on
THANK YOU......
hello. has anyone seen this error before? "internal error: am reported error starting service" i'm using unrevoked 3.3 on an htc desire (running 2.1 i believe on US Cellular). unrevoked identifies the device, runs through some steps, reboots the device and then pops up that error.
I tried to root my dad's Desire (on US Cellular as well) using Unrevoked3 and had the same problem as the person above me. I got that same error, at the same time as this person did. Does anyone know why this happened?
solution
I think this happened because I changed the default install location for apps to sd card. I suspect this causes the unrevoked service (called "zyspkloit") to be installed to SD. As the SD card is unavailable immediately after boot, the service is unable to start.
The solution that worked for me:
1. Set your default app install location to "phone"
2. Use "manage applications" to uninstall "zyspkloit"
3. Re-run unrevoked

Hi, thank you for your solution. I'm sorry I have little knowledge about Android cos I start to tweak my desire four days ago.
My solution is to use unrevoked provided in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8729697&postcount=8
(in 'download' link)
I can confirm this version works on my UK O2 branded Desire, although I don't know why.
Hope it works in your devices.

This doesn't work, as I'm running 2.1 which doesn't allow you to install applications to the SD card anyway. The default location is the internal memory. If I'm missing something, please give me the path to find and change this... i.e. "home--menu--settings--you're doing it wrong bozo--save"

you have a gsm desire, they have a cdma one....
So, i have the newest update (today) and now my phone says "Low on Space" and "Storage almost full", even though it is practically empty. I did a "clear storage", so there is absolutely nothing xtra on this phone, but it persists. I think it only happens after I import contacts from my sd card... weird... anyone else?
I think the new update partitioned the phone memory different. Having the same problems so I basically didn't install anything besides what I need. I'll be waiting for an update from Verizon or HTC to fix the problem.

Connect to your PC, backup your emmc (internal storage partition), place your phone into debugging mode (Settings>Applications>"USB Debugging").
Download HTC Sync and the 2.2 RUU. Connect to HTC Sync. Run the 2.2 RUU. Go through the phone setup again once phone has rebooted. Goto "Dialer", enter *#*#CHECKIN#*#* . Accept the 2.3 update. Check if the bug continues.
This "update" is just a poorly tested piece of crap.
For some reason this gb update would not let me re-root (possible because the memory was full, and it could not push root?)
I ended up re-flashing back to the last official vzw rom from Shipped Roms dot com and re-rooting. WORKED LIKE A CHARM... I'm sticking with xda dev ROMs from now on!
This is just proof of how much work all the devs put into their ROMs.
Ovo-Community Rom, im coming home, baby!
Hi there, I am definitely a beginner so please go easy on me.
Background: I have a Bell Htc one m8 that I have rooted ( I can confirm this by the fact that root checker says I am even after doing a factory reset)
Problem: I am trying to instal Sunshine to get s-off but, i am running into the problem that I cannot seem to get the file onto my phone in any way. When I try to use dropbox I get the error "Storage full or unavailable" , when I try to install from the Sunshine website i get "No SD card: An SD card is required to download downloadfile.apk" and when I try to HTC Sync, it just freezes and needs to be force quitted (I am on a mac). I have also tried to use bluetooth but the file wont send because of an "unsuccessful transfer error."
SO, I am not sure what I did wrong along the way.. but I know its something. I have tried to retrace my steps by doing a recovery in TWRP but the issue remains. I have tried cleaning up my cache using the factory reset function in TWRP with the problem persisting when i get the phone set up.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!!
