[Q] Google Music sync? - Desire General

I heard it now possible to sync music to the cloud. How do i get this working?
I have a rooted desire running Gingervillian 0.9.
Thanks
Vince

People seem to think it is new but it is now. You use the Honeycomb music player and you can sync. The honeycomb music player has been around since last year, way before it got posted as XDA news cause I had it working last year with syncing it to the cloud.

That would be my fault "thinking" it was new, but still instead of moaning about it you could of actually answered the guys question....
In answer to your Question vjmcdonnell you need to be on wifi to sync with the cloud, im not actually sure how long it will take to sync as i dont have wifi to try but maybe Meaple can shed some light as he had it working and syncing.....

Got it working by updating to Gingervillian 1.4 and installing the original music app from the villian setup. Now to have a play.

[Q] Itunes sync and htc sync question

I was reading over in some desire forum that it only takes htc sync 3.05387 to allow the itunes sync to work after froyo update. this version of htc sync is supposed to be available only to the wildfire. so my question is do you guys think this should enable itunes sync on the EVO?
You can sync itunes using just htc sync?! Why haven't I heard about this before?
Is this new to froyo?
Yes it's a froyo feature that is supposed to be leading to the OTA itunes sync that Google demoed at their conference a couple of months ago. Here is the Desire thread that I read that got me interested. http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/140251-froyo-i-tunes.html
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong... but I can get the HTC Sync version working, and it's recognising the playlists on iTunes... but when I opt to sync a single playlist (or a few - bu not all) then it seems to copy across random tracks (despite it saying it is copying the right tracks while the sync is happening).
Anyone else experienced this?
I got a new card, but for some reason HTC sync only shows 1.7 gb as being free, even though the phone tells me I have 13gb free! No clue why it isnt working.
Well my earlier problems were caused by me not rebooting my computer after installing the new version of htc sync.
The only problem now is that none of the music players on my phone seem to realize that the music is there now. Kinda defeats the whole purpose!
I couldn't even get the 3.0 version of HTC Sync to recognize my Evo. It always just says "no devices connected".
I ended up just using doubletwist. At first it was abysmally slow, but now with an updated version it's great!

cannot log in to FB for SNS

yesterday i got the little F icon in my task bar telling me i lost connection to facebook. since then i have not been able to log in to the sync account. i can use the FB app no problem. anyone else?
edit: wtf after trying 10 times i post this and was able to log in right away. the power of whining on the internet
edit 2: still havign sync issues with fb. pain in the ass
I had the same issues. Must be on Facebook's end.
Some months ago FB's app would absolutely not give me notifications when I opened the app, no matter what I did. The error was all on their end of things. Push notifications have never worked anyway, and since auto-updating is a battery drain I just decided to turn it all off. I still marvel at how they can have such a poor official Android app, and how any improvements to it are so small and infrequent. Yet their mobile website is not nearly as bad, and now it's of course much more possible to use the full site on a decent mobile browser.
I've had the same problem for a long time too.
On another note, does anyone know why the Nexus S gets fb comment notifications and the Epic doesn't?
Yeah me too. I was reading that fb sync is gone in gb. Is that true?

Just noticed this today, but same thing... sync problem since 6/3. Contacts are still sync'ing (through SNS, not the app... I don't have the app installed), it's the calendar sync that is not working.
Using a themed version and it is not having problems. Steal one from a rom/theme if you're rooted.

Another Mango bug: Phone freezes while using Zune

This bug is the most annoying and happens 3 times a day minimum...
When I'm listening to Zune, after 10 or 15 minutes the music will stop and the device wll freeze.
Device refuses to shut down. There's nothing I can do.
The only solution is to remove the battery.
So boring!
also see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231013
I have a Surround, updated to Mango (forced) and do not have any problems or bugs. I use the Zune player for hours every day at work, both streaming music with my Zune pass and listening to music stored on the device. Maybe you have bad hardware?
You are luckier than me
I have a Htc Mozart.
It used to work fine until I updated to Mango (officially).
This bug has been reported by other users on wmpowerusers.

It's an HTC bug, not a Mango bug. The sound enhancer is the culprit, have you updated it? Once I updated it, I disabled all it's features, restarted the phone, and reenabled it, no issues. I know that's a ***** of a bug, but it isn't Microsoft's fault, it's HTC's.

No problem, I hope that's your issue and it fixes the problem. When you update sound enhancer, it'll be in the Settings page and not a standalone app anymore, in case you can't find it.
I uninstalled the sound enhancer app like 2 weeks ago hoping that it would solve the problem. Well, it didn't. The phone freezes every time I play songs with shuffle enabled. I have an HTC Mozart and I'd like to install the app Sound Enhancer again (if it doesn't solve the problem I'd rather have it installed!). Does anyone know how I can install it??? I isn't in the HTC Hub or in the HTC Apps section in the Marketplace. I don't wanna have to restore the phone because I have saved lots of data since I updated to Mango! Any help, please?

Not sure what would cause it then. I know I had the problem, it was the most annoying thing since I download all of my music through the Zune Marketplace and shuffle throughout the day.
And it isn't in the marketplace? Seriously? Lol... I guess it still had issues. I'm glad I reinstalled it when I did.
Massive thread on this over here:

Remember to click the "me too" button to keep the pressure on HTC/MS to fix this soon.
I had this problem during the beta mango and have also had it now I'm using the "proper" version.
It will always happen to me if I sync any songs to my phone at a lower bit rate than they are on my pc. They are all MP3's on my pc at 320 kbs. If I sync them directly I have no problems, as soon as I try and lower the quality then it will freeze at the end of a song.
I have put 32gb memory in my phone so at 320 kbps I can still have quite a bit of music on my phone, but I'd like the option to lower the quality and have more without it breaking.
Green Samot -
Try turning off Zune desktop audio conversion before you sync your MP3s (Settings->Phone->Conversion Settings).
In my tests MP3 files play OK as long at they are not converted by the Zune sync software.
I only have problems with tracks encoded with WMA 9.2 or later.

Yes my Zune hangs from time too time, much to often when changing tracks.

Yes it has been pulled from marketplace due to this bug.
But for everyone who got the mango update, I really recommend to do a hardreset. I did that and I don't have even one mango bug that are listed in various threads.

Finally I removed the HTC sound enhancer. It changes nothing.
My wp7 froze twice today while using Zune.
So, finally it's a Mango bug apparently.
So after the keyboard bug, here's another one.

Sorry, but this is a completely unacceptable suggestion. Performing a hard reset destroys any saved SMS, any game saves, app settings, system settings, email account setup, and all installed apps. And before anyone tries to suggest it, connecting to Zune after a hard reset does not reinstall all apps, only the most recent ones. Plus, if I recently installed and then uninstalled an app, Zune tries to reinstall it again.
I refuse to go through that much inconvenience just to correct someone else's incompetence. The last time I had to go through a hard reset, it took over three hours to get my phone back to where it was, and even then all of my SMS and game saves were lost.
If Microsoft offered the ability to save/restore SMS, and to back up system/app settings and game saves, and the ability to review my marketplace history, and select the apps I want to reinstall after a reset, then it would be acceptable.
As it is now, however, no way. Not gonna happen. If they can't fix these issues without requiring a hard reset or provide the missing tools so that recovering from a hard reset isn't such a nightmare, they will lose customers.

Amen to this.
But you know MS will take one year to provide a fix.
Also reported here:

Well you can either spend just 3 hours to make a fresh hard reset or you can wait weeks or even months for a fix, it's your decision. You can copy your most important sms to a word document and upload it to SkyDrive. It's just a recommendation.

Correction: you can spend three (or more) hours on the slim hope that it will improve some of the issues, with no guarantee that it will. No thanks. And copying SMS to a Word document is probably the stupidest "solution" I think I have ever heard. It is tedious, time-consuming, and doesn't offer any ability to restore or transfer them.

HaxSync 2.30

Been using HAxSync for a while, well i noticed it wasnt updating pictures. So i removed the account and readded it. Thus losign all my synced fb contacts and their photos. Now it wont resync them. Im guessing facebook changed something and which is why its not able to pull them down. Anyone know anything about it/ or having the same problem?
Re-install Haxsync, go to settings>apps>haxsync>Clear data. Then try again?
Tried that, same thing
:-\
That's weird. It's working for me.
OH WAIT, I had the same problem 2 days ago. Umm umm, go to accounts&sync>Haxsync>Settings and login again! Keep doing that. I know you've tried but keep doing it 2-3 times.
I know this won't help you, but HaxSync is working fine for me as well...
Oddly enough, the same is happening to me as well. After having it working fine for weeks, Haxsync just up and stopped syncing my contacts yesterday too. Tried uninstalling my 2.29, updated to 2.30 and tried to resync to either a FC or not syncing and telling the system that it was finished in 30 seconds. Odd. Maybe it's a server issue?
Running CM9 on the HTC EVO.
There was and update a while back. The developer said to update at once due to Facebook was changing the way they send their info.

Facebook seems to have some kind of issue today, I've been getting tons of reports. I suggest you wait a day or two and try again then. I don't have access to my dev machine until monday, so let's hope Facebook fixes their API. Cheers, Mathias
Its back up.

Duplicate files: why???

I posted this in general general also, but I feel like there's some more knowledgeable people here.
Im wondering if anyone knows what causes (generally music) files to be duplicated and stored on the phone? I got fed up this morning and deleted all the duplicates. Then after listening to music for about an hour at work, I noticed that it happened again! 3 copies of every song on 2 of the albums I listened to. Wtf? Might it have something to do with where I store them? Sometimes this happens on my PC too. Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it?

Nice timing. I just logged in after finally getting fed up with all the duplicates and notifcations not working at all, which I think is related to the duplicates. Also, only one of any of them works. The rest are just silent. I only noticed it with all my notification sounds, I don't keep much media on my phone.
Really looking forward to an answer to this. I'm up to like 8 copies of each notification sound. Must have something to do with files being restored.

Are you syncing Google Music, books, etc? I've seen sync issues cause similar problems before...
I have sync turned off to conserve battery, so its not that. I really think its something in the way android reads the music files and what it does with the data, but at the same time I don't think its a caching issue since the files end up in the same location. Sometimes they are actual duplicates and sometimes they are 0 bytes or -1 bytes.

Nope. No syncing of anything like that.
Sent via phone that is not the one coming out next month that I want really bad even though not long ago this one was the phone I wanted really bad.
To whomever it may concern, I found a program called mp3tag for PC that allows you to batch edit MP3 tags. After cleaning up the tags I no longer have this problem.
