Hello,
I dont now which phone to choose. I like both of them. I like Htc sense and touchwiz too. What i need from the phone ?
1. Good media player
2. Good internet browsing
3. good gps
Im thinking to buy a galaxy S, but i heard about cool thing for htc desire called OpenDesire. This thing makes desire really super phone. How do you think will something similar will be gor galaxy S ?
OpenDesire is a stock Android ROM, removing all the HTC Sense gubbins, and isn't something 'available' for the Galaxy S as it's written specifically for the Desire...
im really confused because i dont which phone to choose :/.
Definitely go Desire all the way.
I have heard people complaining the Sammy is slow in menus and GPS is super crap. Takes long to get a lock etc.

hello, I had both Galaxy S as well as the Desire I returned the Galaxy S after just 3 days of use as the battery life was just appalling! It was laggy, hated the UI (very slow compared to previous versions of TouchWiz) and also hated the "iPhone style" in the menu.. I hate iOS which is why I got Android! Also, the screen is very nice, but I really could not put it into my own pocket! Anyways whats the differance 0.3 inches eh?
Now that I('ve got the Desire, I just love it! Sense UI, fast, snappy, and NO lag! NEVER! Notofications bar, better than any notificatio0ns you get on any other phone, pull it down and sellect what you want! Love it! Camera is, well, equal, I dont use it that much to notice!
Music player, very good however in the Desire you dont get an equalizer! Once again, I love the phone!
It may seem that I am being biased, but thats the way I feel Just one more thing, when you type, you make mistakes, just like everyone, on the Galaxy S you have to use you fingers to get that little line to move where you want to correct, whereas on the Desired, you can use the Track Pad! Love this feature!
ohh and about the GPS.. well Galaxy S has accuracy of 5-30 meters (didn't get to test myself, thats what I've read), and on mine Dersire, 1-3 Meters! now you know which to pick!
hope this helps! good Luck!
Thanks for your post. Really helpfull.
But samsung galaxy S is getting 2.2froyo with a lot of fixes and also GPS fix. So i think they will fix lag . Also there's a lagfix for samsung.
Hi, why don't you go to a store, check them both, and buy the one which steals your heart
that's what I do if I need to chose between several phones
You now you can try each of them. But you cant try GPs and other stuff. Its better to ask in forum, because people owns that phones and can say much more prons/cons than you find by trying them
I own both phones. In fact I had a Desire and got rid of it for an iPhone but recently upgraded my contract and got a Galaxy S.
It's a great phone with some nice features such as 720p mkv video playback, streaming is nice too and the Super AMOLED screen is MUCH nicer than the SLCD in the Desire now. Movies look gorgeous on this thing.
However I chose to use the Desire again because it's got a few extras which I missed such as flash, LED notifications, the amount of custom roms available currently including Cyanogenmod 6 (currently use) and also the lag on the Galaxy S was driving me nuts in the end! Even with custom roms and lag fixes applied it would still lag sometimes, especially when trying to answer phone calls. The battery in the Galaxy did seem to a last a bit longer than the desire but I'm sure that can be sorted by watching what apps I use / finding the perfect rom.
At the end of the day they are both great phones and I'm sure you would love whichever one you had. My Dad borrowed my phone today and was watching mks in his dinner hour at work and was so impressed!
Its so hard to make a decision. Desire with OPenDesire ROM is super phone. So fast and battery lives longer and much more. I very like Galaxy S, but he have a buggy OS

If you are asking it on Desire forum, what else would you expect? I personally have desire and I'm very satisfied with it. Earlier I had Galaxy Spica which was ok also over the earlier non-android phone.

Given the Desire is nearly 6 months old now, I'd be inclined to wait a month or two if I were you as new models should launch shortly.
Regards,
Dave
But i heard that samsung have a buggy OS. And have no costum ROMs and etc. There's a lot of good roms for Desire, including the OpenDesire which makes your phone super
Personally I would prefer the Desire over Galaxy S.
I've had a little look at the Galaxy S and I think the camera app is a bit superior over the HTCs built in stuff - and when it gets the FroYo update it will probably be even more so.
But everything else seems nicer, smoother in the Desire.
Also I don't like the iPhone-esque of the Galaxy S - didn't like the iPhone - felt it was restrictive and thus went to Android in the first place... it was either that or the win Phone 7 - and that seems more orientated towards Xbox...
i were almost buying Galaxy S, but then i heard about super thing called OpenDesire. And heard that samsung OS is buggy, laggy. And no costum ROMs
HTC Desire HD/Ace is out soon apparently and looks nice, as is the Desire Z (but that might be US only)

As I understand it, it will be released as the Desire Z in Europe, and the G2 in the US.
However, reports today suggest that the processor is underclocked to 800Mhz, which may mean it is being pitched as a lower end phone than the current Desire. Time will tell, as clock speed isn't everything!

Not very smart to ask this in this section
Hello,
I currently own a HTC Touch HD and I hate it with a passion. It is slow, bugy, the screen goes from to sensitive to unresponsive is a millisecond so it is nealry impossible to scroll down the contacts without picking the wrong one or flying past the one you want etc. When I first got it I had a lot of problems with it connection to the 3G all by itself although that is mostly under control now. I have no real issues with the Windows operating system but it is clearly out of date these days.
My question is the Desire HD everything that my Touch HD wasn't? Is is quick, smooth, easy to use and so? Is the touch screen on a par with an IPOD Touch?
Please help as I dont know whether HTC are bad or just that I had a bad phone?
Has anyone bought phones from these guys as they seem cheap enough?

(I cant post links yet)
I changed from the Touch HD and can honestly say its a completely different experience - I continue to be blown away by my Desire HD.

This phone is great, but I'm starting to consider htc as a bad company. I don't like the way they keep blocking the root exploits. As much as I love the sense ui, I will probably start buying nexus phones from now on unless htc want to allow rooting.
If you do decide to buy, at least try and get a phone with 1.32 firmware so you can root it.

I am a beginer at all this technical stuff, what exactly is rooting and why would I want to do it?

Google it as "What is Android rooting". Briefly it provides you to have SuperUser access on the phone and install custom ROM, some spesific apps etc...
Firstly I recommend you to read much and gain information about Android platform then you operate on the phone. I have read forums approx. 1 month before I buy an Android phone.
I upgraded from the Touch HD to the Desire HD too and I will never look back!
My only concern is that a normal desire would have been enough due to the smaller size and better battery life. I've yet to reach 48 hours on one charge with minimal usage...and I don't make many calls!
Hello I had a Touch HD, and now Desire HD. I like my touch hd, but desire is much more better.
Only one thing i missed. I have logitech bluetooth handsfree and it doesnt work with desire. It works perfect with touch hd....

Hello there dear Desire Z community!
I am thinking of upgrading my htc desire for a deisre z but i am torn between the DZ and galaxy S..So i went ahead and decided to ask a list of factors before i make my purchase (because i am obviously leaning towards the Z)..
1) and most probably most important. How is the battery life (e.g compared to a desire-n1) ?
2)is the screen viewable under direct sunlight? (desire sucked at this)
3)how is it in terms of GPU graphics compared to these devices? : iphone4 ,galaxy s,desire hd?
4)Does it suffer from the same multitouch bug the deisre/n1 do?And if not it can use true multitouch or dual touch?
5)How is the dev support around here? i know CM is also supporting a rom for DZ/G2 ,but are there are others devs doing nice work on the device?
6)Is there anything u miss from this device ?
36 views and no reply?i only asked because these questions can be answered by only someone that has lived with the phone for a while..
It does have proper multi-touch, but I can't answer your other questions, since this is my first Android phone. And I love it

appreciate your feedback sir..enjoy your new handheld!
1) Battery life is amazing, much better than the N1. I can stretch around 18 hours with HEAVY use (mostly texting non-stop )
2) Under direct sunlight the phone does pretty well, just have to crank up the brightness. Remember, this is no S-AMOLED, but still does pretty well.
3) Best GPU I've had so far, Comes pretty close to the Galaxy S.
4) No multi touch problems Tracks 4 fingers independently
5) We have awesome dev support Most notably Enom and Cyanogen himself and the dev support will only increase over time...
6) Coming from a N1, I can say I don't miss anything. The G2 is a proper successor to the N1, better then that crap Samsung Nexus S garbage.
Note: GALAXY S IS COMPLETE GARBAGE. Feels like a cheap plastic toy
I forgot who it was, and what thread. But there is somebody on here that switched from a Galaxy S to the Vision, and he said the Vision was a much better phone. Do some reading on the CPU lag and GPS issues on the Galaxy S to help you decide. Also, being an HTC device, and also since it has the hardware keyboard, the Vision will likely remain a favorite of developers for some time.
In my opinion, the Vision is only the SECOND android phone worth owning. The first being the Dream. N1 wasn't good -- touch screen keyboards are ok for punching in something very SHORT, like a market search term, but anything longer and you're bashing your head against a wall. Faster or not, a lack of a keyboard is DEBILITATING. What can you do with fast if you can't get your data into it. All other keyboard androids suffered from retard issues, like incorrect button alignment and/or being motorola.
Also note that the Vision is the direct successor of the Dream (not the N1). I.e., a vision is kind of like a dream, but more powerful. It has basically the same characteristics of the Dream, but more and faster. The naming is also designed to imply a succession.... Its "vision" as in having a vision of the future, rather than "vision" as in seeing something with your eyes.
Thats great!thanks for the feedback and extra info all of u guys...i guess it turns out the only thing i miss is the better screen part..I think i will enjoy the hw kb!
Hi. As many of you I am undecided between the Desire HD and Galaxy S. I'd like to have some advices from you....these are my doubts:
1)there will be more rom support in future (both official producer roms and xda roms) for dhd or sgs? i know...it's difficult to say now, but If you see the number of threads of desire hd is a lot lower than sgs one, even if dhd is newer. This is a negative sign for dhd...
2)SGS has a more powerful GPU, but really in games and normal use there aren't great differences, rather sometimes dhd seems to be faster. Then shouldn't be so important to have the Hummingbird. Is this correct?
3)And even from the point of view of hardware...according to you what's the more interessant compromise between:
SGS: bluetooth 3, 6 axis accelerometer, front camera, superamoled, better battery, tv out
vs
DHD: faster 3G connection, dual flash led, 8 mp camera, more ram, dolby and srs, 4,3", better build material?? (are you sure that dhd lacks of 6 axis accelerometer?)
5)According to me samsung problems about gps and performance (without lag fix) are a very negative thing, because to use sgs performances i'm obliged to root the phone, to install the lag fix and others fix. Instead a positive thing for SGS is that maybe when nexus s comes out users could exploit its rom even for the galaxy, i think that the porting of that os should be easy saw that the hardware is the same.
6)However both htc and samsung announced that there will be the update to gingerbread...or not?
Then according to you what's the best compromise?dhd or sgs?
Sorry for my bad english. Thank you very much
Sgs... has 2.3.2.

For me the killer is the screen, Super Amoled screens just dont do it for me.
The colors are very vibrant yes, but the pen-tiling on the screens make them look really grainy.
Have a look at an LCD next to a Super Amoled. In person, you wont see it in a video.
My best mate has a galaxy and the difference is really noticable.
This has been fixed in their new Super Amoled Plus screens, but the SGS doesnt have one.
I personally have a Galaxy S phone and I really love it, however the one thing that really bothers me is the battery life, the Super Amoled screens really eat batter life. The backgroung processes also eat quite a bit of battery even when the phone is off. I often have my phone plugged in when Im at work just to keep a charge, I have tried many things to save battery life but nothing really makes a dramatic difference.
SGS 'screen burn'... that's why I went for DHD. Hth.

main reason i go for HTC is because of the Sense UI. i hate the fact of Touchwiz UI is the exact replica of iOS. i mean come on, iphone icons and homescreen on android? last thing is the lag issue on SGS out of the box which u need to fix. although personally i am impressed by the spec of SGS on paper, but i still prefer DHD in reality.
I've had an SGS and sold it to buy the DHD! Why you ask?
1. Samsung!!! (Good hardware and really bad software)
2. Support - This is XDA Developers after all HTC hardware gets the best support!
3. The SGS is just boring! I like to do benchmarks, to tweak, to test different things! The SGS ROMs are not as flexible as the HTC ones!
4. Speed - The SGS (even tweaked to the sky) is actually slower than the DHD!!! Even some games run better on the DHD than on the SGS! This is mostly the Snapdragon vs Humming bird CPU! Almost everything is optimized for the Snapdragon! Including JIT compiler and Abobe flash! In a test I did, the DHD played an HD chip in a web site without any problems but the SGS was not able to display it fluidly!
The only thing I don't like on the DHD is the screen! The colors are so pale compared to the SGS's Super amoled screen! And the battery of the DHD is not very good too!
I have dhd for Sense. It's just such a great ui. It's a bit love it or hate it though.

I suggest you post similar question in Samsung forum, hearing from both side of the story give better decision making.

Thank you!! Now i'll follow your advice and will post the same question in sgs forum! Good idea!
Hi there!
I just wanted to know which one is better, since I couldn't find a good comparison online...
They all feature 1GHz processors, but the Desire has a Adreno 200, while the other two have Adreno 205 (which is, according to WWW, better than 200...). But the Desire has an Amoled screen, the other Desire S has a S-LCD screen (don't know what's better but the 'amoled' sounds fancier), and the Desire HD has a LCD screen... I got the info about these phones on gsmarena.com...
I just want to know:
-what's better for gaming
-what's better for watching movies
-which one has better speakers, for playing music out loud
-what's better for just ... being a phone! - just your opinion (I don't care if it's subjective, just your feelings and thoughts if you ever held one and compared them.)
THANKS!
EDIT:
Yeah, sorry, the title is 'HTC Desire vs. Desire S vs. Desire HD... I want to know about all of them...
1)gaming: there are both even with the same GPU, CPU is 1GHz and there have the same ram 768
2) Watching films: i would say the desire S as it has a sharper resolution of 252 PPI were the desire HD has 216 PPI however the screen in HDH is bigger
3)sound- im not sure
here is the other things you might want to know:
1- camera HDH wins beacuse it has a 8MP where the desire s only has 5 MP howvere the desire s has a secondary camera with a 1.3 MP were to HDH hasnt there both 720p recording
2-battery: if you care about battary than the desire s has a better one.
3-talk time: desire S wins
Hope that helps
What about Desire, the original HTC Desire? It's GPU seems to be... low against S and HD... Anything about that?

You may as well forget about getting the Desire, there's no point now. It's old.
Desire S - looks good, good screen, good memory, good hardware.
Desire HD - Very bad battery life (from what I hear), sucky screen (but bigger), good hardware, good memory
I'd get a DesireS hands down. Actually.. if I was going to get a new phone it'd be a Galaxy Nexus, but out of those 3 the Desire S is the best choice.
Desire would be pointless compared to the desire s and HDH
and yes the HDH has a poor battery but the desire s and desire HD have similar specs but desire S wins for me
Thanks for the info! But about the price, which one is 'costier' and is it a good idea to buy a used android phone?
Sorry for bugging you...
P.S.
bortak, isnt that the desire in your signature? looks like it to me...
if u dont need htc sense, in my opinion the nexus s is the best compromise between price and performance at the moment
it already got ICS, better interface than the htc sense probably
The Desire is obsolete. No point in buying one now. While it's a good phone and can still hold its own, it has very low internal memory and that's a big problem now'days, as apps have gotten quite large (and interesting, which makes you wanna install more and more and more etc.). Sure, you can circumvent the low internal memory issue using an APPS2SD ROM, but why go through the hassle if you can completely avoid it?
In my opinion, the better phone between the three is the Desire S. Best battery life, easy to hold with one hand or fit in the pocket, decent screen, good GPU, good CPU, decent internal memory, Sense 3 straight from HTC, touch buttons (as opposed to physical buttons in the Desire, which are prone to failure). Just watch out for bad copies, as i've seen that there are quite a few people who had to return their phones because of mainboard issues. Some even got a replacement phone (brand new) with the same issue (mostly random reboots). So if you decide to get one, try and buy one which is still under warranty.
Regarding the HD and its low pixel density, that isn't that much of an issue in real life usage. The only thing about the HD is that it's quite big and it has quite a low battery life, making you need to carry your charger around with you.
If you're not really set on an HTC phone, yes, i have to agree, the Nexus S is best bang for buck ATM as ICS is quite the hit and it's gettin' it straight from Google, baby! Nothing faster than an AOSP ROM! Also, the ICS interface rocks!
Thanks, you guys!
but, about nexus, a used desire s costs three times less than a used nexus... anyways, the nexus is brand new here and people aren't showing much interest in it... besides, a new one costs ~650€ here and there are no used ones...
Nexus s or galaxy nexus

We're suggesting you buy a Google Nexus S, not a Google Galaxy Nexus. The Google Nexus S is basically a Samsung Galaxy S under the hood, the main difference being the fact that it gets all its updates straight from Google, including ICS (which Samsung isn't bringing to its Galaxy S line 'cause of "space reasons").
What about the screen res. between the nexus s and desire s? and the nexus s doesn't have radio... and they both have the same processor... so i'd reccommend the desire s more than nexus s...

desire is the worst of them.it is the worst for gaming and watching movies.for watching movies i guess desire hd is the best since it has a 4.3 inch screen. My opinion desire hd is the best of them all.and if you root you can even overclock the dhd to 1.5 ghz stable.desire isnt a good overclocker the stable rate is 1113.not sure about desire s.but it could probably get more overclocked then normal desire.Thats my opinion
