Lately, I've been having a strange problem with text messaging. Sometimes, when I am texting back and forth, one of the text message would give me an error that it can't be sent. Then the error keeps getting popped up. But the recipient actually receives that mesaage like 7-8 times. This has happened to me write a few times now. Please help me! This probably isnt a ROM related issue. But,I am using Myns TwoPointTwo.
Happens quite a few times with me. It hasn't happened in awhile. Same thing happens to me also. It's difficult to know if it went through or not. Tell people you text about this and if they see the same text coming through to not think anything of it. It might go away after awhile.
I don't know if it's fixable or what. Try update your profile and prl and see if it helps. Try stock rooted also. It used to happen on my epic kinda often a few months ago. Now that the gf has it, I switch back and forth between the shift and evo. I don't remember seeing that lately.
Older versions of google voice was really bad at that too. Now it's acting better. Shift is running stock rooted and evo is running what came with autoroot package, which is sprint lovers I believe.
Maybe the december evo update and the new shift have those bugs worked out. I will have to ask the gf if it's happening to her. I haven't seen duplicate messages lately from her so maybe it has been fixed in my area.

I recently loaded two roms (Myn's Warm and Caulkin's Evio) and both are experiencing timestamp issues with sms.
For example,
I'll get a text with the timestamp a minute or two ahead of the actual time. So when I respond, my messages get put before the first message.
Anyone having these issues? I never had them before I flashed the newer updated ROMs.
I thought the updated radio, pri, nv might be causing it so I downgraded my pri back to 1.77. I'll let you guys know if that fixes the issue.
hey yea...
I also have this problem. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it's quite annoying. I was wondering if you also use an app called SMSPopup. I don't know if it causes the problem or not but that's the only app I have that has to do with my sms. I highly doubt it causes the problem but I would also like to find a fix for this.

Nope don't use that app. I don't use any 3rd party app. Actually, I did use handcent with Myn's ROM thinking it would fix the problem but it didn't.
It is DEFINITELY either the 3.7 update or the updated radio/pri/nv.
In order to use Myn's ROM, you have to update your radio/pri/nv. So I did that, then flashed his ROM. I LOVED his ROM but I couldn't stand the timestamp problems because I text A LOT (no i'm not a 14 year old girl ).
I switched to Evio and still have the problems. Like I said, the PRI/NV might have been the problem so I downgraded them back to 1.77. We'll see if that helps. I suggest you try it too so we can get some different opinions.
Well for all wondering, turns out it's a problem with by girl's phone. She has a Sprint Palm Pre and it seems they've had timestamp problems for a while.
I have been texting non-stop with a few people and her thread is the only one with timestamp problems so that is the only logical situation.
hey everyone,
so this is actually for my girlfriends g2 and i haven't seen it in person yet, i'll see it tonight, but i figured i'd throw some feelers out there...
her g2, whenever she goes into the text messaging app, the whole screen except the top 1/4 (so she can see the status bar, the create new message, and the most recent text conversation). she's NOT rooted, totally stock and never upgraded to gingerbread. so the notification that she should upgrade has been popping up so she finally went ahead and let it upgrade today while she was at work and it seemed to all go fine she says but now that its rebooted and upgraded, the text message app is still exactly the same issue.
like i said i haven't seen it myself. any ideas? first things first is i was probably going to go in and force close the app. if that doesn't help i'm going to start clearing out her texts (who knows when the last time she cleared them out was). after that... not sure. any other ideas?
thanks!
Dave
This seems to be a common problem. I googled it and found others with that same problem. Didn't see any fixes, though. Try a third party texting app. Otherwise you may need to replace the screen. Could try rooting and flashing a custom rom as well.

Some come tru others dont unless people add text to pic
Some of my MMSs won't download either. I never thought of it being related to whether or not there's text with them before but will keep an eye out.
I thought it might be limited to MMSs from particular contacts so keeping an eye on that and will tidy up my contacts details if needed.
The two I successfully received from my wife had text in them. The one I got from my buddy had no text, and I couldn't download the pic in that one. I then sent one to my wife with no text, but she said she got it, so I don't know what the situation is. My buddy's which didn't come through was sent from TMo > VZN, whereas my wife and I each have the GNex so perhaps it's a content + carrier combination.

I love the phone but wanna smash it sometimes

im on 4.0.2 i have noticed that hancent has updated twice since last week with improvements to allow the programs to run on ICS more smoothly hopefully there will be something soon
Try turning on your lte radio, see if maybe its a network issue?
"unfortunately, the process com.handcent.nextsms has stopped"
definately a weird issue
Aye I've received 2 MMSs from people on AT&T. One worked (it was a video), the other didn't (picture). I had to hold-click on the message and say "Download Attachment", then browse to the file using Astro to see it.
Haven't tried sending any yet...
Anyone come up with a fix? or do we have to wait for google?
Ok so I had just received a text. Went to open from the notification bar and when I did it just took me to the message home screen saying "no conversations". I tried using Handcent to see if it was a glitch in default app but nothing there. Tried restarting and powering off phone. Nothing!
But what's weird is that there is no way in hell it could have actually deleted all those messages that fast (I had a 1500 message thread with one person alone). It's almost as if it just lost access to them.
Yes my phone is rooted and I believe I'm running one of the AOKP roms (been a while since I switched that's why I'm not completely positive)
Never had anything like this happen before, I know the messages have to be there somewhere, it's impossible for a phone this slow to just instantly delete over 2000-3000 messages.
Thanks for any help!

Dont quote me on it but i think text messages are stored in a database in the /data/data/com.android.messaging. I removed messaging from mine and use handcent so i cant really look. Just look for something in /data/data with messaging in the name.
I've had that happen on my original Droid a few times. I think it's caused by a low space thing, (which is extremely common on this device) and I've never found a way to get the texts back if they weren't backed up somewhere else. I agree with you that it's odd how quickly it can delete that many texts, though.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Cmlusco, Yea I checked /data/data and there was nothing there.
godsmacked, But shouldn't I have gotten a low space warning beforehand? My phone seemed fine at the time of doing this. But whatever, I had nothing important there that I needed.
But I still hate having lost all of them, maybe I'm just sentimental and liked having some of those convos. Especially since one was with a special girl (gay I know but whatever)
That happened to my friend who has an Inc as well. I don't see any way to get them back. SMS backup works I think or you can download go SMS to backup as well.

I can verify this happened to me several times using the stock OS. Never happened after I rooted/CM7'd it.
Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong spot. I have a Pixel 2 XL(obviously) and had been on the Android beta program for some time now. The android p beta had been running really solid for me with no issues. So when they pushed it out officially last week i of course went for it. However, all of a sudden now, when *sending* texts, it gives me a notification sound (same as incoming notification). Anyone run into this? I searched the forums briefly but didnt see anyone with the issue although I couldve missed it.
Note- I'm using the Google Messages(I believe thats the official name) app, I just prefer it to Hangouts. I did check the settings, and disabled the setting for outbound notification sounds- but it persists.
Here's the kicker- it cant be isolated to just me, as my mom has the same phone -she messaged me last week and asked if she should update (I'm typically the guinea pig) and I said yep, been rock solid for me.. now she's getting the exact same behavior. So barring it being the messages app itself which i suppose is possible, I dont know.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I havent tried a different messenger app yet, suppose I could(textra maybe), I'm just partial to this one for whatever reason.
Thanks in advance!
Disregard. I guess its specific to Android Messages app. Installed another text app and the issue went no longer occurs.
I have the same issue with my Android Messages app
