I live in the US and tmobile is my carrier but I wanted to unlock my G2 because I travel sometimes and like to use my home country sim card. I tried to unlock with gfree but it did not work. I tried with an old att sim card I had at home with the code I got from tmobile as well. When I type the code it accepts it. But after a reboot the phone is locked again. Gfree verify shows this after running the gfree -S option.
gfree verify_simlock returned:
@SIMLOCK= 01
any ideas? It seems it always returns to the locked state. I am running the newest radio from the G2 forums here. I have no issue and unlocking is not a big deal as my g1 is unlocked. But I just want to know what I did wrong at somepoint in owning my phone to cause it to lock like so.
edit: i read that I think my radio now is to new for grfree to unlock it. I am running 26.06.02.27_M. Still don't understand why it relocks when I use the tmobile code. When I first rooted my phone and took the S-off the only thing i skipped was the unlock figuring I could do it later.
Well you might already have figured this out but maybe if you already have the true s-off and the eng boot image.
if its giving you a problem just flash another radio and give the unlock code another try or use the gfree way and see if that locks it in.
then try to flash the radio once you've locked it in then it might stick its worth a try or just plain in simple flash back to a dated radio that you know that works then stay at that one when you travel and put the unlock code in but of course annoying but it will work lol.

Update: I restored to the first tmobile radio. Still phone relocks after reboot. I will next try unrooting my phone all the way to stock and see if that works.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Huhhhmmm that sucks lol. good luck hope something starts to work for you. When used to get the unlock code I would root right after. and no matter how hard I messed things up the unlock code always stayed after a flash of a new rom or anything.
Sent from my Liquid Metal using Tapatalk
Did you type in sync after you used gfree?
yup

New status update. I restored my phone to total off. (Without S-ON and OTA). I did the unlock and it actually applied it. I forgot about the tmobile glitch with using the tmobile provided unlock codes. My phone does not work now. I applied the OTA but it did not help. So I rang tmobile and they are sending a replacement. Now I just need to re-enable S-on before sending the phone off. I should not have the refurb till next week. Back on my G1 till then. To the few that gave me a few tips thanks.
Oh no problem well its always a trial error with this type of thing :-/ but hope with the knowledge you've learned you'll get it all done with the new one.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Yea your right. I know how to to mess up the new one. I just feel like tmobile wants to blame me for not applying the OTA. (I did not tell them that. I actually told them I was on the OTA and the phone quit working after unlock. So now they think there is a glitch with the OTA) I was not gonna tell them otherwise because they would not repair the phone for a problem they caused with their stupid lock codes.
Haha your right hook luck on the next one. and I did the gfree method and true rooted and unlocked mine before I did there update and didn't have any problems. I'm definitely gonna save my first unlock code request for a Future Android phone that will probably need it instead of ordering on eBay. I did that 3 times for different g1's back in the day when I first signed with T-Mobile.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
So I got the new phone and just used gfree for everything. Worked like a charm. I hope I stocked my phone all the way correctly. I already sent the broken one back.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Ahhh that's great news now you won't have to worry when your about to travel and try that mess again and then have a expensive door stopper lol.

Alright.. been working at this for the last four hours I'd say and I still have no luck so now I've come to the experts for help - of course that's you guys!
I bought an carrier unlocked T-Mobile G2 off of eBay and heres what I've done currently:
Put in my SIM, didn't work so I came here
Rooted my device following this tutorial
Loaded a Modaco HTC Sense ROM on my device - STILL NO Network Connections
Put CyanogenMod on and still had No Network
Did the gfree unlock, and ran the ADB codes to check everything everything was good
These are the guides I followed..

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#2._Run_gfree_on_the_phone
ALSO I DID NOT HAVE TEMP-ROOT when I went to PERMROOT!
Please can someone give me some tips?
Need some more info from you. Lets start with your last comment about not having temp root. If you followed the first guide you linked you did in fact have temp root first.
Now i need to know where you are at now. If you got the rom flashed and everything is working xcept network connections you need to first check your apn settings. Paste those here so we can see what you got goin on. Also there are a few posts about your problem, im gunna check them out for you as well

When you did the adb commands i need to confirm you got this one
OK echo -e '[email protected]?40\r' > /dev/smd0 # [email protected]?40

Hey,
Yeah after re-reading the rooting thread you are correct I did indeed have temp root. As for APN settings I'm not sure what they are I'm researching at the moment.

Yeah I got that one, and the guide said that is what I should get Thanks for your help!
Also I should add its saying "Please insert a SIM" so no sim is actually being detected.
Carrier Unlock
For all you people trying to unlock your G2's for use with any carrier. All you have to do is call T-Mobile and request it. I did it on my G1 and I've done it on my G2.
There are certain requirements and stipulations but I'm sure the majority of you will meet them.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. There are plenty of postings from people who unlocked their phones with unlock codes, and ended up with a phone that won't pick up the network.
The gfree method of unlocking the phone is actually safer than the carrier's own method !
Yea it was a factory unlock that is screwing up this guys phone. Maybe..... if your phone isnt reading a sim card you might need a replacement. Have you tried any other sim cards?

Really? I've been with T-Mobile for years, I always unlock my phone from the carrier directly, and have never had any problems. I've tested it on a few SIMS successfully and I don't expect any issues when I go overseas. I guess we'll see. What issues have you heard of?

It's all explained at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
It's a program developed by the great guys at #G2ROOT that gives you full radio S-OFF as well as doing a SIM unlock.
The next thing i would do is get yourself a new tmo sim card. If your g2 is reading the rogers card then it should read you tmo card. Can you test your tmo card in another phone? Alsoo do you have a connection with the rogers card?

I don't live in the states, and the Rogers card is being identified but it didn't have service so not sure.
I have a question. Did the phone ever work? Before you started anything. If not you have been doped by an ebay seller. I would suggest contacting the seller. If phone did work and now doesn't I would recommend you try entering your apn settings manually.

The phone worked perfectly in the United States, but he only used it with T-Mobile and he didn't try another SIM card (AT&T for example)
Update
My Carrier unlock code from T-Mobile worked fine when I traveled to a couple of different countries recently. Guess I got lucky!
alright here it is my t-mobile G2 won't connect to the t-mobile network at all, I've went through 3 SIM cards because this thing use to kill the SIM card from working on other t-mobile phones and it works perfectly fine on at&t network. so I've unlocked so it will work on at&t just to see if it would work. so i gave p and bought a MT 4G, but i still want to know if the G2 is fixable because I'm just about ready to throw in the towel this is what I've tried to resolve the problem called t-mobile they ended up saying just return the phone but i can't since i didn't buy it from them. Called them again got the unlock code. I've flashed the radio a few times. I've also just got the leaked 2.3.3 update and nothing has worked. It find t-mobile network but says your SIM card isn't allowed to connect to this network then after trying again it says unable to connect to network please try again later.
Just so frustrating i don't know what to do just about to say forget it. this thread is my last resort.
also i still have S-OFF

I'm having trouble following your story, its a bit jumbled.
Did the problem connecting with T-Mob start after you applied the unlock code? Its a know issue that using the unlock code may cause the G2 to stop connecting to any network.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#One_at_a_time._What_is_Subsidy_Unlock_and_why_do_I_want_it.3F
Also, I've seen it commented on here that T-Mobile doesn't care if you were the original buyer of the G2 or not, they will still replace your phone on warranty. You can ask them to confirm.
Sorry for the delay....it was having problems before I put the unlock code in. I only put it in to see if I could connect to another network
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You've tried to fix it in hardware (ROM, radio). So it might be a hardware problem, like a damaged SIM tray (particularly if it is destroying SIMs). As mentioned, I'd try sending it in on warranty. Others here have claimed that T-Mob will replace it, even if you are not the original buyer.
Hi, first post here. I need help unlocking my Samsung Galaxy S2.
Details of the phone:
Android Version 2.3.7
Baseband version: I9100UMKG2
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-g1e46077
[email protected]#1
Mod Version
CyanogenMod-7.1.0-GalaxyS2
Build Number
GWK74
IMEI:
***
So, I went to an unlocking place in London, were they used all kinds of software that would supposedly unlock it, but it didnt work on any different carrier other that the one I have it on. I have a plan on TELCEL from Mexico for 18 months. I tried a second place and they still couldnt do it, even with the Samsung Software. So I rooted it, flashed it, and put CyanogenMod in it, and downloaded two apps that supposedly unlock it, one was the app done by ChainFire, and the other one by helroz. The chainfire app couldnt find the code! Helroz did nothing after it restarted. Also, I tried putting a code but only twice, so the phone still works fine and has chances for the unlock left, I believe.
One important thing to note is that with the old software that came with the code it wouldnt even as for an unlock code, but after rooting and putting cyanogen mod in it, it asks for an unlock code. Thats basically all ive done to it.
So, is there any way I can unlock this phone? And has there been cases were a phone is just impossible to unlock no matter what you do? I am desperate here!

ok sorry about the IMEI ,and thanks for deleting it. So any help guys? PLEASE! Helroz and Chainfire not working. What else to do? Is buying one of those codes on the net a reliable way of doing it? I dont want to buy one and then find that it doesnt work...
Mexico is nasty with this they often deliver the phone 'broken' (they do this on purpose) making unlocking pretty much impossible.
In Europe doing this is illegal but well in Mexico (latin america) it isn't. I have seen this with Claro in Peru also.
You can try with SRS software (unlocksamsungonline.com) but contact support first to tell about your problem.
Also I suggest removing the modded firmware because that has probably only made your problem worse. Put a non branded original firmware and check if your IMEI is still intact.

I can vouch for his service, used it before...
I will try the links posted. The weird thing is, that when i do the *#simlock# on the phone, it shows all the options in off, as if everything was unlocked. But when I put in a new sim it says sim lock! What can I do? Is it still worth buying an SRS account and trying to get it unlocked? I dont want to spend 14gbp and then have the thing not work... Any ideas? I have also reverted to original software now. I need more options >(

The thread I linked you two, he has a UST Pro II, it's a hardware unlock solution... Phone must be on GB or less, and rooted, he shares his UST's USB connection over network, and carries out the operation on your computer... Msg him explaining the situiation and see is a refund possible if it doesn't work...
Great topic mate!:good:
Long story short - I got screwed over today.
I sold my Nexus 4, and bought a Brand New still in plastic Note II today off Kijiji (Canada's craiglist) for $480.00
Its locked to Rogers, but seller said he unlocked the phone to sell it. I powered it on, it worked great and still had all the plastic on it.
I brought it, got my Microsim out, got it activated with Telus, put it in my phone and boom - Its locked. Realized I made a huge mistake not trying the Sim before buying the phone.
Emailed the seller, he said he was told it was unlocked and I'm out of luck, sell it or unlock it myself. Wow... I couldn't believe it. He hasn't responded to anything else since. He told me he already spent the money on a iphone5 so good luck with it. Shocked by the response.
I called Rogers - explained the story - gave the IMEI. They told me its a brand new activation - she said she can't tell me much but felt bad so she told me it was literally a brand new phone but was subsidized so they can't unlock it for 90 days, but did ensure me if I decided to use it with Rogers it would work. (She all but told me it was just activated this past weekend by the seller, so it was 1-2 days old). She said after 90 days I could get it unlocked for $50 but need to be a customer to do it. Well isn't that helpful.
So now, I tried Cellunlocker.net and quickphoneunlock.com to get it unlocked. She recommended me try these. I had used these services many times in the past without issue... well this time, both providers gave me the exact same lock code - but were unsuccessful. Still waiting to hear back from both services.
I then found the "free unlock" method on XDA and around the net, but the last step's menu isn't present in my phone so it won't unlock. This step to be exact - "choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ"
Anyone have any idea's on why "choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ" isn't in my menu options? Or have any other unlocking suggestions?
I'm basically down to one option - switch to Rogers - which is a Major pain in the ass and something I'd like to avoid.
Yes I know I made the mistake of buying without testing the sim first, Please no need to comment about this.
My phone has 4.1.2
It updated as soon as I enabled WiFi.
Seems if i Left Rogers 4.1.1 on it I would have the option to unlock, correct? Anyone tell me if I can go back to 4.1.1 somehow and if this would fix it? (Rogers Canada) And how I can do it?
Having some bad luck here.

That is correct. Go to www.sammobile.com and get the stock 4.1.1 firmware for your phone. Flash it with odin and then follow the steps for the free unlock guide. Make sure the firmware you download is for the canadian model . I believe it will be sgh-i317m . Once you get it unlocked then you can go back to 4.1.2 and it will stay unlocked forever. Make sure you read everything. I dont want you to brick your new phone.

Correct. Starting in 4.1.2, unlock is blocked. Downgrade to 4.1.1 and you can unlock for free. It's been proven to work in many many forum posts.

I have an S3 that displays this message when I insert my SIM card: PHONE NOT ALLOWED MM#6
Before any one starts jumping to conclusions, please hear me out.
Did I do an IMEI check? YES...I called AT&T and met with the seller at an At&t store. The seller was the original owner. I even inserted my SIM card in the store. Since I never seen this ERROR before, I figured I could just downgrade the phone like I always have.
What Android Version? The phone is currently on 4.3. Now that I'm home and spent the last few hours doing research. I now know the phone can not be downgraded. UNLESS someone knows otherwise.
Since the phone has not been reported stolen, and current downgrading methods are not available. How can I get around this ERROR?
Could it be it not NETWORK UNLOCKED?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
Go to XDA general and look to see a thread called working downgrade. That might help you.

You are correct, you cannot downgrade the bootloader, only the ROM; therefore, the free unlock method will not work. You'll have to buy an unlock code. To unlock it using a code, make sure you're running a stock ROM.
