Alright.. been working at this for the last four hours I'd say and I still have no luck so now I've come to the experts for help - of course that's you guys!
I bought an carrier unlocked T-Mobile G2 off of eBay and heres what I've done currently:
Put in my SIM, didn't work so I came here
Rooted my device following this tutorial
Loaded a Modaco HTC Sense ROM on my device - STILL NO Network Connections
Put CyanogenMod on and still had No Network
Did the gfree unlock, and ran the ADB codes to check everything everything was good
These are the guides I followed..

ALSO I DID NOT HAVE TEMP-ROOT when I went to PERMROOT!
Please can someone give me some tips?
Need some more info from you. Lets start with your last comment about not having temp root. If you followed the first guide you linked you did in fact have temp root first.
Now i need to know where you are at now. If you got the rom flashed and everything is working xcept network connections you need to first check your apn settings. Paste those here so we can see what you got goin on. Also there are a few posts about your problem, im gunna check them out for you as well

When you did the adb commands i need to confirm you got this one
OK echo -e '[email protected]?40\r' > /dev/smd0 # [email protected]?40

Hey,
Yeah after re-reading the rooting thread you are correct I did indeed have temp root. As for APN settings I'm not sure what they are I'm researching at the moment.

Yeah I got that one, and the guide said that is what I should get Thanks for your help!
Also I should add its saying "Please insert a SIM" so no sim is actually being detected.
Carrier Unlock
For all you people trying to unlock your G2's for use with any carrier. All you have to do is call T-Mobile and request it. I did it on my G1 and I've done it on my G2.
There are certain requirements and stipulations but I'm sure the majority of you will meet them.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. There are plenty of postings from people who unlocked their phones with unlock codes, and ended up with a phone that won't pick up the network.
The gfree method of unlocking the phone is actually safer than the carrier's own method !
Yea it was a factory unlock that is screwing up this guys phone. Maybe..... if your phone isnt reading a sim card you might need a replacement. Have you tried any other sim cards?

Really? I've been with T-Mobile for years, I always unlock my phone from the carrier directly, and have never had any problems. I've tested it on a few SIMS successfully and I don't expect any issues when I go overseas. I guess we'll see. What issues have you heard of?

It's all explained at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
It's a program developed by the great guys at #G2ROOT that gives you full radio S-OFF as well as doing a SIM unlock.
The next thing i would do is get yourself a new tmo sim card. If your g2 is reading the rogers card then it should read you tmo card. Can you test your tmo card in another phone? Alsoo do you have a connection with the rogers card?

I don't live in the states, and the Rogers card is being identified but it didn't have service so not sure.
I have a question. Did the phone ever work? Before you started anything. If not you have been doped by an ebay seller. I would suggest contacting the seller. If phone did work and now doesn't I would recommend you try entering your apn settings manually.

The phone worked perfectly in the United States, but he only used it with T-Mobile and he didn't try another SIM card (AT&T for example)
Update
My Carrier unlock code from T-Mobile worked fine when I traveled to a couple of different countries recently. Guess I got lucky!

Hey guys,
So I got the SGH-I747M from Bell Canada today, its supposed to be the exact same asthe AT&T one hardware wise but some slight software difference I guess.
Anyways, when I try to use *#7465625# to check my network lock status the code doesn't even work to view the Personalization Status, I remember reading on the international forum section a few people had this as well and someone else posted a different code that does the same thing, but I can't seem to find it anywhere when trying to search, does anyone know what the alternate code is to check? or if perhaps the fact that the first code doesn't work means the phone wasn't locked to begin with at all?
Thanks.

Thanks but that doesn't answer my main question of why the code doesnt work to display the status. anyone else know why or an alternate code?

Anyone have any idea?
So far my best guess is that my phone wasn't locked to begin with if the code doesn't work, anyone else with Bell or other Telus/Rogers phones able to use the code, does it work, does it not?
Yeah, tried doing the same thing does not work comes up with "Connection Problem or Invalid MMI Code"

I've actually been working on getting the lock status code working on my NA variant S3, I've gotten as far as actually being able to load the lock status Page but no information on what is or isn't locked because of how our NA models are not the same as the international model in regaurds to the nv data bin files.
I haven't said anything about it until now as I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up as I don't get much time to work on this. So it could be some time before I have any good results if any. I'm still a newbie as far as being an android dev.

if code does not pull up page you cannot assume phone is unlocked that is poor logic. even unlocked the page should pull up, perhaps with a different code. unlocked phones in the us can still pull up that page.
I would like to know this also. I just sim unlocked mine and would like to know if it worked. And dont have another sim to try?
According cellunlocker.net, the code does not display the lock information on the NA versions of the S3. You have to use a non-"insert carrier name" sim in order to see if the phone is locked and then enter the unlock key. I got mine from cellunlocker.net; cut my used Tesco sim to a micro-sim and boom it worked.
Code doesn't work on At&ts GS3 as well. I unlocked mine yesterday after at&t gave me the unlock code...but only way to check it is by using a different sim.

Its maybe 40 something days old....(the phone) ....Ive heard if you're in good standing with At&t (ie: always paid your bill on time...pay over $100 on your monthly bill)...you're treated better maybe? Idk. I just called 611 and asked "may i please have the unlock code for my device"....I answered their security questions and made small talk.. "hows your day going"....mins later......"heres your unlock code"...

My Experience
I used cellunlocker and got an unlock code last week and ordered a T-Mobile sim card ($0.99) which came today. After some careful cutting (I ordered a full size sim card) I inserted the T-Mobile Sim and the S3 booted to an "enter unlock code" menu. I entered it in and was able to immediately access T-Mobile.
I get the same "Connection Problem or Invalid MMI Code" when I try to check but I know it works because I was on the T-Mobile network. Somehow I my text messages and call history for today only were erased so you might want to back up that data before you try it out. Pretty easy process overall.
I have two problems with my phone, first one is how about unlocking the sim card.
1. I have already gone through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068 these steps for one of my sim cards, it worked for the first one. But when I used another sim card it completely blocked it and didn't give me access to the net(phonecall) at all.
2. My S4 is a SGH-M919 T-mobile version, I would love to change/replace the T-mobile out of the phone, but don't know how. The phone eats my battery quite fast, and the signals are even worse, as long as there is a roof over my head I can't get a single dot of signal. :crying:

You can unlock it, but you can't exactly confirm without a doubt that the unlock worked. The free method here showed all the right things for me when I used it, but my AT&T SIM still wasn't working. I would have never known that I didn't successfully unlock if I had T-Mobile service and no other SIM card.
i'm having a similar problem.
to give a little background, I took the task of unlocking a friends Tmo S4 to use with Att, since his work provides att service. his brother works at tmobile so he got that version of the phone.
does the 40 day rule still apply? it's about two weeks old. it shouldn't, since it was purchased outright. also his brother couldn't do anything with it and he works at a corporate store. maybe it's a lemon?
I've tried the above method, and i've tried a few of the root methods. absolutely nothing works. the system/unlock.sh script has a line for IMEI: and unlock code: but no numbers after the colons. and the -n 8 /dev/block method gives me all kinds of info except the unlock code you're supposed to then do some simple math with.
if any of you guys have some helpful links i'd really appreciate it. I've searched and searched, posting a Q (or replying to one) is usually a last resort.
Thanks.

Samsung unlock code algorithms are not easy to come by and not done with simple math.
If phone was purchased outright all you have to do is call Tmobile. They will provide you with the code free. It may take some time but it is free.
I do unlocking as a side business and unlocked over 400 s4's to date with z3x programming device. Of course if you are doing just one it's not feasible to spend $100 for the device.
Depending how much you earn an hour, your other option if you want fast service is to buy the unlock code on eBay. The tmobile one is expensive at around $30-$49. There is one dealer on ebay that does remote unlocking for $10. You may consider him as he uses the same device I use and has you connect your phone to your PC to initiate remote unlocking.
Honestly I wouldn't mess with the system files especially NV Data area because one screwup and you will delete your IMEI rendering the phone useless unless you buy the z3X to repair.
Thanks for the input and options.
I have an S3 that displays this message when I insert my SIM card: PHONE NOT ALLOWED MM#6
Before any one starts jumping to conclusions, please hear me out.
Did I do an IMEI check? YES...I called AT&T and met with the seller at an At&t store. The seller was the original owner. I even inserted my SIM card in the store. Since I never seen this ERROR before, I figured I could just downgrade the phone like I always have.
What Android Version? The phone is currently on 4.3. Now that I'm home and spent the last few hours doing research. I now know the phone can not be downgraded. UNLESS someone knows otherwise.
Since the phone has not been reported stolen, and current downgrading methods are not available. How can I get around this ERROR?
Could it be it not NETWORK UNLOCKED?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
Go to XDA general and look to see a thread called working downgrade. That might help you.

Does the phone show the same imei # as the label located in the battery compartment when you dial *#06#?
You are correct, you cannot downgrade the bootloader, only the ROM; therefore, the free unlock method will not work. You'll have to buy an unlock code. To unlock it using a code, make sure you're running a stock ROM.
What the title says. In the past Sprint phones used to be SIM-unlocked for international SIMs (for instance my Motorola XPRT was) but I understand that lately they are not... I plan on traveling abroad, and I'm used to popping local SIMs.
Does anyone know if the G3 is locked or not, and if it is - can it be unlocked?
Nobody knows? Well guess I'll be the first one to test it. I'm going to Europe next week and I'll try a local SIM. Hopefully it works (if not I'll use it in my other phone which is SIM-unlocked).

Actually I don't think that hidden menu exists for the Sprint LG G3 (or if it does the code was changed). I tried 2945#*990# to see if the menu exists and nothing happened. I also tried

FWIW I called Sprint, did a bit of social engineering on the phone and they agreed to unlock my SIM for foreign SIMs. It took 24h as they had to have it approved by the "backoffice" but eventually it worked. They did it all at their end, so I can't post a procedure. According to their rules the device wasn't eligible for unlock (among other conditions, a device has to be activated on your account for a minimum of 90 days to be eligible) but they still approved it "since you're a long-time customer" That was nice.
Currently using my Sprint LGG3 happily in Italy with a local SIM
Is your phone rooted?
If it is, do you mind grabbing a couple of files for me. This can help in creating the GSM unlock for the G3, just as there was for G2.

I was curious about this as well and the thing is options for gsm/umts mode are available out of the box. If i recall correctly such settings were hidden if the phone was not unlocked or inaccessible. Please correct me if I'm wrong however i do plan on contacting Sprint to unlock as i have to go abroad in a month or so just in case.
I don't know about the G3, but the settings were easily found on the G2. However to use the phone in GSM/UMTS mode abroad, the phone needed to be internationally unlocked by Sprint.
One of the guys, used files from an unlocked G2 and created the method to unlock any Sprint G2 for international use. I am just trying to reverse engineer the unlock for the G3 by following the same steps that he did for the G2. His method does require root, so waiting for it like everyone else. With my experience on the HTC One series, the unlock method remains the same for Sprint phones as there is hardly any merit for Sprint to patch these exploits. Hoping same is true for LG phones as well.
So I called up Sprint today for getting the phone unlocked.
Let me start by saying my family has been with Sprint for close to 15 years, No late payments, have a total of 4 phone lines active on the 1500 minute family share plan with unlimited data and So on.
After talking to about 4 people and wasting an hour or So I Was told my phone is not eligible for unlock before 90 days of it being active. I plan on traveling internationally on September 8 and they just wouldn't do it and went on a spiel regarding Wi-Fi calling and telling me calls would be free internationally if I will be connected on a Wi-Fi network. I am taking that with a huge grain of salt. I Don't see how i can call local numbers while in Pakistan for free on Wi-Fi calling as it requires access to location and will technically only work where 911 services are available to be called on Wi-Fi from my understanding, correct me if I am wrong.
Anyways I threatened to cancel service and still they did not budge, can Sprint really afford to leak customers like that, they are no Verizon, every thing regarding their network is horrendous the only reason I'm chained to them is because my brother and sister don't want to lose their number and my dad doesn't want to pay etf ( I've told him about tmobile taking care of etf, but when i checked on their online website, none of our Sprint numbers seemed to be portable, hence i seem to be stuck...).
One thing i forgot to ask was, is it possible to swap my dad's old iPhone 5 back (which was unlocked by Sprint) and then just wait out the 90 days until they decide to unlock the g3? Or does the g3 have to stay activated through out the 90 day period? I ask because then I would have to leave this g3 here in the States (i used my fathers upgrade, was planning on switching his iPhone 5 back to the active account after getting this g3 internationally unlocked). Any insight on that matter would be appreciated.
Hoping there may be some break through on sim unlock before the 8th of September via rooting would hate to leave this phone behind (btw I am an international medical student hence the reason for needing it unlocked, just have one more year of school left).

Update: Got a call from Sprint this morning, they apologized for putting me through the hassle i mentioned in my earlier post and went ahead and unlocked my device. Guess there's hope for Sprint after all. I still maintain that the customer service reps are not very helpful at all though Or maybe they just don't have the power to over ride certain things who knows.

Have you already?
There are a couple of people at the Forum to unlock phones.
I think they're are some Cloudyfa Roms for the G3. That ROM unlocks your phone out of the box. Or you can try flashing an aosp ROM. Then dialing *#*#4636#*#* and switch the GSM only. It works on the g2. Not sure about the G3 but it's worth a shot. This also works for domestic use in the the US.
I'm using t-mobile HTC 10 around a week, but want switch to AT&T now as the AT&Ts 4g internet connection is faster in my area. To my surprise not so many services can unlock this phone at this moment (maybe because the phone just came on market, hard locked or smth). found some services where htc 10 is supported. Just want to ask- is anyone used these services?

just tried and not worked for my device
I heard that all super new phones are hard locked (locked with a higher level of encryption), so that's why so difficult to unlock at this moment(

Once you cancel T-Mobile you'll need to pay the balance on your phone.

That's me . I've ordered a HTC 10 and will be here soon. Anyone interested in starting on a sim unlock before than. Please PM me
I am legit. Check out my work for M9 and Desire 626 sim unlock method. Plus I need this to work as the T-Mobile variant I am getting is not in their database (so no unlock app).
Thanks
@stifilz is probably the best thing that happened to the HTC M9. He sorted my sim issues on the Sprint M9 within minutes, couple of times. Helped countless others too!
Hi @stifilz, I back on HTC, this time with T-Mo HTC 10. It seems unlocked because my sim is working perfectly fine, 4g lte and all. I'm thinking of getting s-off and flashing US Unlocked RUU, just scared I might lose the sim unlock.

Mine was T-Mobile and I have converted to US no problem. My unlock was a physical unlock though.... not the tmobile APP one... Not sure how you will get on there, sorry.

A few questions:
1. I read somewhere that when you flash the US Unlocked RUU during setup you're asked to pick a network. Was there anything like that for you? What did you do if there was?
2. How did you do the physical unlock and how much did it cost?
3. When I bought my phone from the guy I just popped in my sim and it works. The T-Mo unlock app is still in my apps but I've decided not to touch it. How can I tell if mine is physical unlock?
Thanks!

A physical unlock involves plugging the tool into it. You would need to buy that tool. Just try it. Worst case you SHOULD be able to flash T-Mobile and use the unlock app again. PM me if you need S-off

Not sure of your status with this but DO NOT use htcunlockingservice.com. It was $12 to begin with, then I was informed I'd need to pay an additional $12 bc the device was hard locked. I did, they notified me they got an unlock code from Sprint server but it did not work. Site says 100% money back guarantee but thats proving as much of a pain as dealing with Sprint customer service.

Sprint unlock is not done by code. It is not a GSM phone. It is CDMA/GSM so it is unlocked different. Search xda HTC Sprint NV unlock

I unlocked it myself using the basic flasher and NV tools, I was just relaying what they were telling me and the horrible experience of dealing with them so that it may save someone else the headache lol.
