No Call Audio - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When making or receiving a call I am unable to hear the caller and they are unable to hear me. All volumes are up. I can't select the speaker phone. Bluetooth has the same problem. The problem started on EB13, and I've flashed to stock DK28 and DI18 with no luck. Sprint is ordering me a new epic but it won't be here until Monday so I figure I'll try to get it to work.

Looks.like you have to wait for your new epic

Yeah sounds like a sound board issue not a software issue to me.

I actually figured it out, it thought something was plugged into the 3.5mm head phone jack. I plugged a pair of head phones into it and I was able to hear everything. Unplugged it and it works perfect now. I don't know what was up, especially considering I flashed it several times. Just must have been the hardware hung up or something.

YES, I'm so excited that I fixed it

Airrave and GS2??

Is anyone using this phone with an airrave? I get a weird soft beeping every once in a while. I'm not positive that it is the airrave but I'm trying to see if anyone else has noticed this.
BTW... I love this phone.
I have two Airave devices and no problems with either. The only beeping is the standard start of call beeping.
no problem with Airave but I did reset it when I started using the E4GT
Hmmm.. Yeah its not that beep.. It sounds like a hearing test almost.. like you barely hear it. I guess I can rule out the airrave.. the phone is trying to tell me something. I just cant figure out what it is.

[Q] Can't Hear Sound from My Epic 4g's Earpiece only speaker

So my phones been rooted on Aokp for about a month now and its been working fine. However today I discovered that when making calls I cannot hear the other person unless I have headphones or speaker is on? I've already tried rebooting and odin to stock but its still not working? Any ideas or fix
Sounds like the hardware went.

It's the hardware. Unroot the phone if needed and take it to Sprint. They will "look" at it and order a new one if you have insurance. I'm currently waiting for my new one cause of the same issue plus half a dozen more. Tired of being the Tool on the bluetooth just to use my phone normally. I know it has nothing to do with the software because the repair tech tried to 'Odin' it and reinstall everything OTW. This seems to be a common accurance when rooting. I can't be sure in my case cause my phone fell out of my pocket bounced off the concrete and into a pool. I noticed all the problems after that happened. Good luck

[Q] Q> Mic problem

So I acquired a ET4G the other day from a friend who had dropped it in some water. He did an insurance claim so he has his new one and gave me this one to play with. Everything works fine except the mic and the notification light was stuck on. This is more of a curiosity project than anything else.
I completely disassembled and cleaned the circuit board and contacts. Now the notification light works properly and the mic works when recording video.
There is no mic in skype, calls, searching, anything except video recording that I've tested so far.
Sooo, Does video recording use a separate mic , if not does anyone have any ideas? It's running CM9 right now but shouldn't make a difference.
To my knowledge its the same mic. I would try using odin to flash the el26 kernel with cwm5 by acs. Then using that to flash an el29 build rom. Such as calkulin 3.0. Just to make sure whatever your friend had on there is stock of latest release. That wat if there is problems you know for sure its not software related.

Alright, Went back to stock, flashed Calk 3.0 still no good.
So I don't believe that it is a software issue. I can fully accept that it is fried, water and electronics just don't mix. I just don't understand it working for video recording but nothing else.
I think the are three mics on the board, I'd guess the main one at the bottom for calls is shot. It's possible it could be replaced if you can get it off, then with some smd paste and a heat gun you could put a new one on.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. Far too much work for a phone that cant be hooked up anyways. Although it would be kind of fun to see if I could swap Mics.

I believe he said that he lost it, they asked him if he wanted to GPS track it and he said no. Paid the deductible and they mailed him a new one. That's why I am not to worried about fixing it, has a bad ESN anyways.

Plugging in earphones while on a call

When I am on a call and plug earphones into the jack (after already being connected and speaking with the other person), the Note 2 recognizes the earphones are plugged in, but the other caller can no longer hear me, even after a few seconds; however, if I plug the headset in, and THEN either answer or initiate a call, they work fine. I am using the earphones that came with my Captivate back in 2010. The key seems to be having the earphones plugged in before a call is connected, otherwise they don't work.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Answer or initiate a call. Talk to the other person to make sure everything is working.
2. Plug earphones into the jack, while your call is already connected and working. Note 2 should recognize the earphones are in and pop up the Page Buddy if it's enabled.
3. The other person can no longer hear me, even after waiting 5-10 seconds.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I think thats a normal occurrence, the original note would do that also.

I can't imagine that "plugging earbuds in while in a current call results in other party not being able to hear you" is designed behavior. It may be a "normal occurrence", but that doesn't mean it's not a bug. =)
Does anyone else experience this by following the "steps to reproduce" in post #1, or is it just my device?
Thanks in advance!
I plug my captivate's earbuds into my original note mid conversation all the time with no issues, but then again I'm running cm10. I'm curious to see if this happens for everyone with the note 2... I'm trying to convince myself it's worth 650 bucks to upgrade, and this would be another tick in the 'no it's not' column

Thanks for the data point regarding the GN headphones vs. the Captivate ones! I tested quite a few scenarios, including having the "Earphones Page" unchecked in the Page Buddy settings. Same result as reported above. I didn't try it with Page Buddy actually switched to "Off", though ....

[Q] People Can’t hear owner when in a call

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 about a month ago. Last week I began having a problem with the phone. When a call comes in, whether I make it or if its incoming, I can hear the person on the other end fine but they can’t hear me. I turned the volume all the way up and that hasn’t worked. It is not the area I’m in, because it has happened in different areas.
Do you have any solutions to this?
Wifi calling? Are you rooted and non stock?

I had the same issue. I was never able to fixed or the tmobile store. We change the mic several times and nothing. So I got an ear blue tooth and forgot about it. If you put it on Speaker works perfectly.

I had an issue that was similar, but not the same. When I was at home on wifi and answered calls, I could hear the caller but they couldn't hear me (said there was weird squeaking noise or something). Answering calls when not on wifi gave me no issues, but my apartment is a total dead-zone so I really need wifi calling.
I just fixed it today actually by doing two things: turning OFF power saving mode, and turning off the voice control that deals with answering calls and such. I'm not sure if just one or both of those steps were necessary, but wow, F power saving mode! I thought my phone was pretty fast before, but w/ power saving mode off it just absolutely blazes. I've had pretty awesome battery life on 4.3 Tweaked ROM w/ Saber kernel, so I don't think I'll mind a battery hit in exchange for the ridiculous performance I'm seeing.
Back to your problem, I've heard of people solving issues by cleaning the microphone with a toothpick or something. Are you able to use the mic for voice recording or voice commands or anything? If you're having a hardware problem with the mic, an exchange might be necessary.

Its happend all kind of calling. Yes I am rooted
If it's a hardware defect, you could get a replacement for that.
