I got a tmobile g2 off craigslist today and its already rooted with s-off. i want to flash cyanogenmod 7 have no idea how to go about it because my phone is already has a htc sence rom. can anyone help me out plz??? im asking questions cuz i dont wanna brick my phone like an idiot.
does the phone have clockwork revocery? if not download rom manager from the market and click flash recovery. if you have a rom installed you most likely have the recovery. still flash recovery to get the latest version which is required by cyanogenmod. download the rom you want with the gapps and put it on your sd card. boot into recovery and pick " wipe data/factory reset' after that choose "wipe cache partition". then "install zip from sd card" followed by "choose zip from sd card". then look around for the cyanogenmod and click on it. after it's flashed go to the gapps the same way you found the rom and flash them. reboot and you'll have your new rom.
any questions don't bother to ask.
ok thanks ill try it
anything you don't understand ask cuz we don't want anything to go wrong.
ok so i flashed a new rom and all went well. now when i try connecting to wifi (no dataplan) i cant for some reason. wifi starts but doesnt find my router. i try scanning and wifi turns off. i think its the new rom.. wifi worked fine before. what should i do??????? maybe find another rom??
btw i flashed android 2.3.1 gingervillain 1.4
Please just go read read read the guides and stickies. You'll be glad you did later when you dont have to keep asking questions to simple answers. And you'll be able to troubleshoot for yourself.
Things to think about:
1) Use ROM manager to make backups before you change anything significant
2) When switching roms, do a full data/cache/dalvik cache wipe before flashing
3) Don't do anything that you're not sure on. Research before you brick your phone.

Do a reboot (Usually these 2.3 builds require a reboot to fix WiFi). Did you wipe data and cache before flashing? You can also try a fix permissions.
i made a backup so its ok. and yea i did a data cache wipe.. ill try a reboot thx guys

I did the root and I have the WiMAX setting and Wifi Tethering is working somewhat but I cant figure out how to flash my rom..I dl'd DamageControl 3.2 but i dont know what to really do now...When i try use ROM Manager I get the error..."an error occurred while attempting to run priviledge commands!" I'm just lost as to what i do now to start using a different rom
Bump.....ANYONE?!
So the following questions would need to be answered:
1) What version of stock were you running before you rooted? (i.e. 1.47, 1.32)
2) What root method did you use?
3) What recovery do you have?
4) If you have wireless tether working than you would need to have installed a custom kernel, which one did you install?
I'm sorry that no one else has tried to assist you in this, however, next time please post this in Q&A as this is for development purposes.

Okay during the process of rooting my device, ebo 4g, v1.3x
I ran into the same problem, you have to or I'm sure on this forum just do some research,.....
In RA, dalvik wipe, cache wipe and phone wipe. Then I flashed the rom via sd card, using clockwork custom recovery. If you used Simple root 3 click process you should have clock work.Via step 2.
Rename the Rom to update.zip and place in root sdcard.
Adb reboot recovery
Update.zip from SD card
Finnish do full system wipe and dalvik cache.
Make sure you are nand protected before flashing.
Via step 3
I don't know if this mighhelp just some recent stuff I ran into. Rooted my g1 a WHILE back. Hope these noobietips help lol

Do this! It's the fastest and easiest way.
Once you get 1.47 and singed sigs then do DC ROM again.

adb reboot recovery just reboots your phone into recovery mode. once your in that do all the wipes i think its 3 dlvk, data and something else. power off the phone once more then boot to recovery again. now one of the options is flash from zip go there and you should find whatever rom your trying to flash. also you should be putting your zipped rom files in the root directory of your sdcard. on a side not if your on a mac dont download them with safari use firefox or something else

nova,
I had the same boot loop issue. My thread for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728955
The issue was that I wasn't totally 100% rooted. By carefully following these directions, I was able to resolve my issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721055
I hope this helps also, I did it using the "PC" method. If you have questions regarding those instructions I'd be happy to share my personal experience.

Errr... maybe? Superuser permission, etc. certainly doesn't come with stock. It depends on the ROM you installed. Here's one way to find out...
Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information and check the "Build Number". AFAIK it's impossible to install DamageControl without full root (I tried to myself before fixing my root and going to Fresh 1.0.1) so if that's what you have I'd say you're good.
There may be a better way but that's all I know.

First, back everything up with the "Backup Rom" option in Rom manager (also called a nandroid backup). Download the Rom (.zip) you want and put on root of your SD card as a zip file, Reboot into recovery with Rom manager. Data wipe, cache wipe, and choose install zip from SD. Reboot you phone. And that's it your new Rom should be up and running. First boot up usually takes a few minutes as it is building ur cache. If there are any problems try searching the forum b/c it has probably already been addressed.
Usually the steps are listed in the Op of a forum on how to install a specific Rom but the steps are pretty much the same.
Virtuous is a good Rom, its Android 2.2 with Sense 2.0. But u should give VillainRoms SenseGinger a try, it is Android 2.3 with Sense 2.1. The latest is pretty stable and fast, and it keeps getting updated.

I do have what might be a silly question on this topic, however it has been bothering me and I don't dare try it. I change my rom A LOT because I like to play around and try out the new stuff but I usually end up going back to CM7. at the moment I have a backup of each ROM I've tried so far in case I want to go back to play with it or update it if it gets updates. Whenever I change roms I do a factory restet and a cache wipe. is that necissary? or can you just install zip over whatever is there like you do with CM nightly updates?

You can but it is often recommended to wipe because of lingering data that might not match up with your current rom. sometimes it could be just fine and sometimes cause problems. so it really just depends on what roms your using. Personally i just wipe data and cache when jumping between roms unless its just a patch or update.
I've been running ARHD 5.1.7 and its been stable OK.
Been trying to upgrade to 5.2.2 but for some reason it either gets stuck at the boot screen or else manages to get pass then but then will hang the moment I try to do anything.
Followed instructions to use Super Wipe per the ARHD pg. And also tried to factory reset first before installing. Same result.
Can anyone help me please? Seems to work for everyone else.
Thank you.

Did u check the md5 sum and make sure ur download is good first? I assume that u r rooted correctly right? Make sure u r not trying to flash it through cwm. And make sure ur battery isn't low or keep it plugged in on charge only
U r not rebooting after super wipe r u? As soon as wipe is done it tells u to install Rom
Md5 checked when downloading the file. Matched.
Should be rooted correctly since i've been been upgrading the ARHD a few version till i got to 5.1.7.
I used recovery and selected installed the zip from SD card --that is correct? not flashing it thru cwm like u said i should not be doing right?
I have tried with reboot and not rebooting after super wipe. Same result.
Any other possiblity?
Thanks.

Don't worry about the old one. Get the new ext4 recovery out of the dev. Section. Will be one of the top threads. Flash it. Then boot to recovery and go to where it says wipe and wipe the catch, dev catch, and the factory wipe u already did. Then flash the wipe download for ext4 when its done it will say u can now flash the arhd Rom so go to install fro SD card and fond Rom zip and flash it then reboot. U will be good hopefully. Keep me posted
Do you mean this one? Is it different from the Super Wipe from the ARHD pg?
ClockWorkMod 2 & 3 - ( Edify Script )
FULL_WIPE_1.5_EXT4_
This patch can be applied prior to flashing the ROM, please note, this zip will wipe your device and format all partitions to EXT4.

I'll write out my problems in a list so it's easier to follow.
1. I downgraded my phone with the following the above link. S-OFF, etc.
2. I've tried to install MIUI 1.10 and 1.9 through REVOLUTION, and it says that it has successfully installed.
3. When I try to reboot after the install, it gets bootlooped.
4. I've tried going back to the backup I set up after successful rooting. I've also reinstalled the ROMs many times, each time it just bootloops.
So the question is:
Has anyone had trouble using MIUI after downgrading as well? Have people had success with different ROMs?
I could be mistaken because I haven't used the down grader, but I think that all revolution does is give you s-off and install cloclwork.
I think you have to install miui from clockwork.
Boot into recovery. With phone off, hold down the vol- key and the power button.
Before you install miui, make sure to wipe the data, cache and dalvik.
You have to have miui on your SD card and select it when you use the Install zip from SD card option.
If I've miss understood your post, disregard this one.

I did all of this, except for wipting data, cache, and dalvik. Can anyone else confirm that I should do this?
After I install MIUI and reboot is when I start bootlooping.
You should always when flashing a new ROM.

Oh also...
I cannot install MIUI from clockwork.... since I do not have super user.
From what I understand, I get superuser after i successfully install a ROM from my SD card. After I get 1 ROM, I can start installing through clockwork since superuser will then grant me the access to do so.
EDIT: WOW! I cleared cache and data and reinstalled MIUI and now it works! Thank you both for the great help! Let me know if I can repay you guys by upping your "thanks" meter. I'm still a bit new to the forums :\

Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

so I attempted to install it and got stuck on the boot logo for 20 minutes or so. So I bricked it lol... Anyway I just flashed it with Odin to 2.3.5 but the link to download file for root capabilities is broken. What can i do? Do i have to go to ics first before i reattempt to go to 10.0.0?

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

Had 2.3.5 - rooted via odin and have recovery 5.2.6 - did everything in proper order and wiping properly.
what am i skipping here? Still spinning taunting me, wish there was a way it would tell me if i did something wrong.

Update your recovery to twrp or cwm 6+ and don't use dark side scripts

Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery
7.Wipe/Data Factory Reset
8.Flash Rom
9.Flash Gapps
10.Reboot
You can throw in a backup of files somewhere in there if you like.... Your choice

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.
Here's the link to CWM touch and non-touch:

A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.
Factory reset
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.
