Getting a new phone. Without a nandroid backup of your WIMAX partition, your keys are lost forever. They can not be recreated.

What did you do that made you lose Wimax?
Did you flash a ROM that doesn't have 4G?
You can check your RSA keys by downloading the RSA key checker app from the market.

OP you can do ^, but if they show that your keys aren't present and you have no backup, you're out of luck there buddy.

Does this means even if you lose your keys etc - while flashing rom without 4G - you can still get them back if you have nandroid backup ?

First this is not the forum for questions. The question and answer thread is better suited. That said I wouldn't recommend restoring a backup from another Rom , especially if you used amon

Ya if you overwrite your wimax code from the previous phone it could mess up your 4g. Just suck it up and do a clean install on the new phone.

Exactly, if you flash over your wimax image it WILL bork 4g. (I haven't tested but it only makes sense) The idea of backing up wimax is to keep keys in tact. If you flash keys from another phone, then you my friend will be on evo #3. haha

I agree 100% with everything said here, just use your other Evo as a template for which programs to download and such and do not use Nandroid to restore stuff from your older Evo. If you write over your WIMAX, bye bye 4G. That or you can only use 4G on one phone at a time because they will share the same key.
You were already told that this is the wrong section, so no need to repeat. Please post in Q&A next time if you have questions, saves a MOD from having to move your post.
isn't there a workaround?
Could you just remove the wimax.img from the nandroid restore folder and then restore the other img portions? (Unless of course the restore process must have ALL the img files to complete)
Or maybe move all your img files, except the wimax one, into a PC36img.zip and restore via bootloader? (unless you have to sign the pc36img.zip file somehow)
I suppose removing all the radio images would be prudent here. You're really just interested in /boot, /data and /system I believe.

[Q] New replacement Old Nand backups

My replacement phone will at my house tomorrow morning (assuming fedex delivers tomorrow) after swapping SD cards and rooting the new one can I restore my old backup from that SD card and start from where I left off? Thanks for all your help guys
Not recomended.. you might get a different hw version or might loose radio and wimax and all that
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.

Amon_Ra has for quite a long time now actually. He should NOT restore but to each their own. Setting up a phone back up from sratch isnt all that bad anyways.

[Q] Amonra doesn't backup RSA keys afterall?

I heard it backed up RSA key but i checked a few days ago and saw that my RSA keys were gone so today i found the oldest Nandroid which is from the day i rooted my EVO...run Wimax RSA key checker and my RSA keys are still gone i used the caulking format zip and then flashed the old nandroid...or am i doing something wrong?
Have you manually looked into the folder on a computer, mounted sdcard of course. Calkulin's format all doesn't touch wimax, and amon_ra only backs up the wimax keys if you select it in the backup, its not selected by default.

No prob. After you select backup, you see 3 X's checked, those are the default minimum required. If you scroll down and select [with power button] on another item, i.e wimax, it'll go back to the top, but wimax will have an X next to it. When you have backed up what you wanted, select backup, then push the power button a second time to confirm it.
Edit: And unfortunately, your keys are gone and can't be retrieved...you'd need to procure a new Evo.
What version of amonra are you using

The process should have been the same, even on older versions.

Yup. Make sure the phone is unrooted. Just say it started happening after you accepted the latest OTA.

I'm still on 1.8.0 and it doesn't have those options. When you choose nand backup it asks you y/n? and that's it. It has been verified though that the older versions do back up the RSA keys, so I don't know why OP is having this issue.

Amon RA 1.7 didn't backup rsa
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ok. Here we go.
Amon-ra version 1.8 and below automatically creates a file inside the nandroid folder named "Wimax.img"( or similar), where the wimax partition is backed up.
The issue is if you have a valid RSA key, then it will be backup and restored. If it was missing when you backed up then it won't be in the "Wimax.img". You can test the contents of the wimax.img the same as you can the installed wimax partition.
Search for "grep RSA" you'll find the exact syntax to use in a terminal app. to find whether the RSA keys are present in the nandroid folder's wimax.img.
Good luck.

How do I restore wimax rsa key?

I have looked in cwm and it finds a partition but no image file. Any ideas? Thanks

Hopefully you had a backup. Just restore it.
I went to the last nandroid I did from 8/10 and its not there.

go through your nandroid backups, and find one with the rsa keys. once you find the rsa keys, back it up on that rom and reflash your current rom.

You can actually remove all of the ".img" files except for the WiMax.img file from any backup folder and then restore that backup, making it only restore the WiMax key and not whatever ROM you backed up.

Unless there's some method I don't know about, yes. Hopefully you're still in your first year with it. Tell them 4G doesn't work (and unroot it of course). You'll have to bring it to a Sprint store.

Any way to backup 4g?

Hey is there any way to backup my 4g keys/wimax for use on another epic 4g?
thanks
I haven't tried this yet myself but I would think this should work. Use Titanium backup to do a full backup. Copy the Titanium backup directory from the SD on the old phone to the SD card on the new phone. Install Titanium backup on the new phone and do a restore. Let me know if it works.
You can back up but only restore on the same device. NEVER EVER EVER EVER TRY TO RESTORE KEYS ONTO A NEW DEVICE YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY LOSE 4G AND POSSIBLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
now as far as backing up on the epic idk if you can. On the evo (my phone) its done in recovery.

My mistake. I didn't see that they said 4G keys. I was thinking WiFi for some reason. Yeah what I said won't work.
I believe wifi passwords are saved on your google account if you enabled it if that's what your talking about?
Then whatever device you sign in on should have them. At least that's how it worked with cyanogen
