I read that the Desire HD has 802.11n but when I've created a WiFi Hotspot it shows a 802.11g while most of the other networks around me are clearly shown as 802.11n.
Does the Desire HD lack 802.11n? Or does the WiFi Hotspot disable it?
I would say that when DHD is acting as a wifi router it doesn't have the capability (or it's disabled) to broadcast a 802.11n network but it can definitely connect to a 802.11n network.
Can you confirm that it does indeed only run as 802.11g when acting as a Hotspot? (Each WiFi adapter I have is the same so I'm wondering if its a issue with my adapters)
Also I see no reason why they'd limit this, my DHD is my router and I'd love to have much better WiFi speeds on LAN transfers!

I have an odd issue. The phone will not complete a call consistently when in the same room as router. It sometimes will do so if I move to a different floor in the house. Internet works great. Screen sits and displays "dialing." SMS also sporadically works.
Facts:
Router - Netgear N750 with b, g, n
Router bridged to Fios router
No issues with other wireless items: Blackberry, laptops
Networks, 2.4 and 5g show and have proper security, both set to WEP
How did you get Wifi Calling on your Nexus? i thought only TMO had that? or are you saying when you are just connected to wifi, you cant make calls?
I thought the Nexus was capable of calling via wifi. I can do so with no issues at my office. I can alsomake calls in my home but for some reason not close to the router.
Hi guys,
I have an issue on my HOX. On the stock software I could connect to my work internet but not my home internet. This is my setup at home:
Netgear Router DGN2200 (First router that connects to the dsl): (Let's call this A1)
DHCP enable
No firewall
WPA2 security
Zyxel Repeater (This takes the wifi signal from the above router and boosts the signal. All it does.): (Let's call this A2)
Set up as universal Booster.
No DHCP
No Firewall
Security #1 (this is the connection from the Repeater to the main router (above)): WPA2
Security #2 (this is the Repeater's OWN security to gain access to the router) WPA2
Netgear Router DGN2200 (My router in my house. Doesn't connect to dsl via Telkom.) (Let's call this A3)
DHCP Disabled
No Firewall
Tried all kinds of security lol. Believe Android likes WPA(TKIS) more so it is on that at the moment.
Connects to the Repeater via a normal LAN cable.
NB: When I connect to the router that makes the DSL connection I can browse. If I connect to the repeater or the router(that is actually acting as a switch) then it doesn't work. I still have the same IP, gateway, DNS, ect.
So why doesn't the phone go through the router to the repeater then to the internet? Is there perhaps a setting on the netgear router to not allow a connection IF...
When I use my laptop,pc,HTC Sensation or Blackberry I can connect to either A2 or A3 and it works. It's just the HOX that doesn't. A1 is out of range from my place that's why I have this entire setup.
I did root my HOX and with the HTC CM9 rom it does work. Stock rom and Android Revolution it doesn't (I would like to keep Android Revolution on my phone coz I like sense)
Please help
Gerry
Hi, I have exactly the same problem and HTC email helpline have been of no use - basically they just say it must be the range extenders fault. So, really pleased to find someone else has the same problem!!
My router is a Technicolour TG582n supplied by Plusnet and the range extender is an EdiMax EW-7416APn V2. My One X works perfectly with the router but when I move out of range it connects to the Edimax, says "connected" and "signal strength excellent BUT when I enter a url the green connection indicator bar stays at the left of the screen and nothing happens until it says "timed out".
Of note is the fact that my HTC HD2 ( and my wifes iPhone and iPad) work perfectly with the extender so proving that it must be the One X that is at fault.
I also need help please!
there's several posts about connections that does connect but they can't browse. But that is mostly just one router and they have security issues or DHCP issues.
One thing to mention is all of the network devices are running the same security (changed it now) and also on the same channel and the they are all on a "G" speed. Tried the others but nothing so...
Is your HOX rooted? Have you tried this rom:

That one works but it doesn't have sense
Gerry - wi-fi problem
Hi RenVila,
Thanks for you reply - afraid I am new to this and don't have much technical knowledge!
My phone is standard, as supplied by Vodafone.
I will need simple simple help!!
Bump.. Anyone please help
Hey all. So heres my deal. I have a Linksys E3000 router and an Edimax Wireless Extender I just picked up. I got this since in my house, the router is on one side of the house and so naturally, on the other side, I get 1 bar of wifi strength. Was hoping to improve that. So what I wanted to do was have both units have the same SSID and have the devices automatically switch between the physical devices (same SSID) as I get near them. This didnt work. In fact, both my S3 and my Nexus 7 kept getting confused and dropped connections often.
So now Im trying it where they have different SSIDs (lets say Router1 and Router2) so no conflicts. The issue I have is this. I want both my S3 and N7 to AUTO SWITCH to the better signal SSID. Im running Cyanogenmod 10.1 on both devices and I see in the adv wifi settings something about, 'Only connect to a network where strength is GOOD'. This seemed to be the answer, however it doesnt actually work. 1 network shows great and other shows fair and it still wont switch.
Wondering if there is any other way around this? Otherwise this extender is basically useless to me as I dont feel like constantly switching my wifi networks as I walk across the house. (wow I sound spoil when I say it like that lol)
Thanks all
Is it configured for Universal Repeater Mode?
When you say "it" are you referring to my router or the extender device?
The router BTW is a Linksys e3000 with dd-wrt and the other unit is edimax 7348rpn. I believe that's the right model. Its a little plugin unit. Thanks

I just got a new laptop and I was dissapointed in the Wi-Fi speed. I checked the settings of my router and I discovered it's because it was in network mode B/G only. So I enabled the option B/G/N mixed and my laptop finally reached the speeds I had hoped for. But now my phone can't access internet. It connects to the Wi-Fi, but the icon in the top stays grey and it doesn't get internet access. How to fix this?
Good morning all.
After muuuuuch frustration I have discovered that the 5ghz hotspot on these phones (and many others apparently) is restricted to ch149. This isn't an issue for most of my devices that are in range of the hotspot. But I have a couple of devices that rely on my Wi-Fi extender and I now understand that the extender (tplink re200 and re315) cannot "see" channel 149 at all. Operating the hotspot previously in 2.4ghz and the extenders work as expected but streaming 4k etc becomes problematic.
Does anyone know if:-
1.. A custom firmware exists that includes the option to change the 5ghz hotspot channel?
Or
2.. An extender (or router with wireless bridge function) that can "see" the channel 149?
Thank you.
