So here is my issue. About 3 months ago i cracked my screen on the epic. I imediatly thought i would have to pay 100 dollars and use the insurance i pay for. So i decided i would live with it. About a month ago on XDA i saw that someone got there screen replaced and it could cost me either 35 dollars or nothing. I called sprint that day and found out they were right. Yesterday i went to the sprint store and asked them to repair it only to find out it will cost me $100 dollars because they changed there policy.
Is there anyway i can get sprint to honor what they said over the phone?-The guy at the normal sprint repair said i would have to go to a corporate repair store and MAYBE they would... I called sprint(not the coprorate store) and they said that it would be insurance fraud for them to do anything.
While i was at the first sprint repair store the guy said if i could find my own lcd that he could swap em out for me free of charge. So as plan b i would like to know where the cheapest lcd i can find is? Also where people would sell a bricked epic for parts...
thanks in advance
Its prob too late, but Sprint wanted to charge me $120 to replace the trackball on my BlackBerry.
I went in to another location and I talked to a guy, prob about 20. I could have done it myself for $20, but I had just started getting around after back surgery and a knee scope and didn't feel like F'n with it. He said that's what it will cost if you don't have insurance. I didn't. He said, "you must have insurance ?"."let me check..... oh that's funny they didn't take out your $7 for insurance this month", "do you have the $7 dollars today, because we can have your phone fixed & back to you in 20min, for only $15". Pretty damn cool.
You might be able to get insurance if you haven't paid your next months payment. Then tell them you had called a month earlier and asked for ins to be put on your acct and to get quotes for or change your acct. If you're anything like my wife(unless you're a guy and don't have a vagina), call and ***** them out for not fixing your acct for you and how you had to pay $100. Then keep asking for a supervisor or get someone who will fix it for you to shut you up and keep you as a customer. Don't forget to ***** about the extra $10 for 4g that you can't get or is just ****ty when you do. It might work.
Damn that was a novel. No more replies anymore after I've taken my pain pills. Let me shut up and melt back into the couch w/my hand in my pants, Al Bundy style" ahhhh....

insurance
the worst part is i already do i have insurance. I have had it since i got the phone and htey still want me to pay 100 dollars
Tell them you lost it, pay the $100 for a whole different phone then sell the broken one for parts and recoup some of your money.
thought about that
I thought i abought that but then i realized how much can i make from a bad esn epic with a cracked screen?
Well, bad esn epic's are selling for ~$300 so I wouldn't consider ~$100 ridiculous considering a new screen can be purchased for $90

holy f*** where?
Also the 100 by itself isn't ridiculous. What is ridiculous is sprint clearly told me that it would be no more then 35 dollars and now they say 100... i don't like false advertisers.
Take a look at eBay and search bad esn epic, its still good for metro pcs and rapes anything they have while being cheaper by around $50, also I meant you could sell it for $100 without being even a tad bit ridiculous
thanks for the advice.

I had a cracked screen and paid $100 for a refurb a couple days ago. What happened is they stopped replacing the screens prolly way to much money.
Epic 4g
If you can find a store that has a smart technician that harvests parts from other epics, u may be in luck. i myself being a tech, harvest as many epic screens as possible and when cases like yours come in, i can be ready to either say "with insurance its free" or "without insurance its $35" (which by the way is the new Sprint ASC policy...). OORRR you can be like every other customer and just pay the crazy $100 insurance fee (as long as you have TEP )
If you have insurance, use it. File a lost/stolen phone claim, get a new replacement phone, sell bad esn phone to a happy boost mobile customer for $200. Happy you, sprint, and boost mobile customer.
I just bought a new screen for $104 shipped to replace the screen on my wife's epic since hers had a bad back button right out of the box and we are ob boost so no taking the phone back.
And yes bad esn epics are worth a lot because it only takes about 20 minutes to flash one to boost which is still sprint and half the price.

I have tep and an annoying sc4ratch on my screen but its definitely not worth $100 or even $35 to fix sine its only noticeale if I look for it, so would I be able to take it to a sprint store and they'll fix it for free?
Like I said, its not really in need of fixing....but if I can get a whole new screen for free its definitely worth it...lol

Wait, they changed the TEP Policy AGAIN after the October change?
When my screen was broken, they fixed it at the Sprint Repair/Service store. I wasn't charged anything, and instead of replacing my screen, they gave me a brand new refurbished epic with a new 90 day warranty.
to get this strait
Someone would actually be willing to buy a cracked phone with a bad esn off ebay? What should i list it as?

I'd buy it for $100 factoring in that a new LCD is about $100 plus the time I'd take to replace it. I got my perfect condition lightly used Epic with a bad ESN for $240 shipped to my door from the evilbay. My wife's was $300 shipped brand new with a bad esn but the stupid thing had the back button issue that plagues so many Epics. I replaced the LCD and that fixed the problem but still...
Oh well $50/mo on boost makes it worthwhile especially when it starts dropping $5 every 6 months with the shrinkage program.
hmmmm
So should i flash it to boost mobile myself or just put it on ebay?
Depends what you want to do. If you are handy and good with electronics you can replace the screen and then buy a cheap used sanyo incognito on boost so you can flash it.
You can also flash to Cricket or maybe Metro.

So I dropped my phone for the first time a few weeks ago and a couple cars ran over it.. don't ask, I posted another thread lol. I finally got around to going to the Sprint store, and after waiting for an hour and a half she said its not covered by insurance because its cosmetic, part of my screen is covered by a black and purple blob. Why have I been paying for insurance for 2 years? How can I get it to be covered now? All help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have 100 bucks to toss right now

do you pay an extra $7 and month or the $4 and month?
If its the $7, just google assurion.com and file a claim and they will ship you one. No need to wait at the Sprint store with all those minimum wage idiots.
If its just the $4 plan, just smash it til the screen cracks and get it fixed. More than likely they will order you a replacement at the repair store this time... Stupid, I know, but they should have fixed it for you the first time. I would have raised hell if they gave me that "Cosmetic Crap."
Goodluck.
Assurion will charge a $100 deduct regardless if you turn in your old broken phone. If you still have the phone I recommend getting it done at the sprint store no deduct.

Hey everyone! When I tried too purchase from best buy the rep told me to get BB insurance because there was no Sprint TEP for this phone. Anyone know otherwise?
Yes you do have TEP, $11 a month with $200 deductable. Don't know why he would say that unless he just wanted his numbers higher. Best buy $10 a month no deductible with 1-5 day turn around.

I just Googled it and it looks to be corect, $150 for both 16GB and 32GB models: http://www.phoneclaim.com/sprint/deductible

Took a swim in the pool today with my new GSIII in my pocket, didn't notice it for about 5 minutes and then pulled the battery and dropped it in some rice, think I'm SOL on this one. So do I just take it to sprint or what, NOt sure how it works as I never had to use insurance.

If your phone is water damaged you can file your claim online. no need to go to the sprint store even, there not going to be able to do anything accept fill out the form thats on this site for you. phoneclaim.com The website is through asurion, sprints warranty and claim handler. If it were me i would just say i lost my sgs3. That way you dont have to send your Liquid Damaged Sgs3 back to sprint. It will cost you the same 150$ You can save the phone for parts or something. Wouldnt hurt to have an extra lcd front housing for the phone in case you ever dropped your new phone. You can pay for your replacement phone online with a credit card and they do overnight shipping is included in the 150$ price I believe. This is only what i would hypothically do and am in no way saying you should do this!
doesnt hurt to hit the repair center if you have some time. minor water damage is covered under TEP, and as long as there is no board level corrosion they should replace it at no cost. personally i think that a 45 min to a hour is worth the possibly saving a 150 bucks.
The battery water indicator turned pink but the one on the phone is still white. Does Sprint even carry the 32g model in store?

I'm pretty sure even sweat and condensation are not covered. As soon as it turns pink, it's a deductible.
Especially when OP states he jumped in the pool. I'm pretty sure that's not minor.

This is only true if you have a nice repair center that works outside the rules. Water and/or physical damage immediately negates the repair portion of TEP and requires you to file a claim. My wife works for Asurion, it's one of the very first questions they ask.
Regardless our deductable is 150 call it in stolen so asurion doesnt have to see ur wet phone

I also have a feeling that if/when people use the TEP to replace it will probably be new phones for sometime guess that is a plus.

$11 a month x 24 month plan = $264...spendy if you don't use it, but the first time you have to pony up $549 for a new one with out it you'll be wishin you had it lol. especially if it's in the first couple months.
Also don't know if you know this but with TEP it also covers warrenty stuff at $0 deductible past the factory 1 year warrenty. This has come in handy for me several times

TEP's monthly cost is calculated by the full MSRP of the handset.
Anything below $499.99 is $8 per month
Everything $500 and up is $11 per month
WiMax devices are grandfathered into the old $8 rate (The Motorola Photon, HTC Evo 3D, etc. are $549.99 but are $8 per month to insure).
Deductibles are also calculated by the full MSRP of the handset.
Anything $299 and below will have a $50 deductible
Anything between $300-499 will have a $100 deductible
Anything between $500-599 will have a $150 deductible
Anything over $600 has a $200 deductible
Wimax devices are again the exception having been grandfathered in on the old $8 rate; The Photon and Evo 3D for example have $100 deductibles.
Some examples of TEP premiums and deductible schedule with Sprint's current device lineup:
Kyocera Rise - MSRP $249.99, $8/month, $50 deductible
LG Mach - MSRP $399.99, $8/month, $100 deductible
Samsung Galaxy S II - MSRP $499.99, $8/month, $100 deductible - WIMAX
[*]LG Optimus G - MSRP $549.99, $11/month, $150 deductible
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB - MSRP $549.99, $11/month, $150 deductible
Samsung Galaxy S III 32GB - MSRP $599.99, $11/month, $150 deductible
Samsung Galaxy Note II - MSRP $649.99, $11/month, $200 deductible
As for what's covered, here's the easiest way to think of it:
Anything YOU did to your phone (or by omission allowed to happen) will require you to contact Asurion, pay a deductible and they will ship a phone to the address of your choosing. *
Anything that the PHONE did by itself and can be reproduced in the store is covered at a store level. They'll attempt to fix the phone, if it can't be fixed a DHRP (Direct Handset Replacement Program) phone will be ordered. **
As for your manufacturers warranty, it's completely and 100% not applicable at the store. Doesn't matter if you bought the phone 8 months or 8 weeks ago, once you're outside of 14 day return/exchange window, you're paying out of pocket to fix defects with your phone if you don't have TEP. If it's physical damage, lost/stolen, etc, you're paying out of pocket to buy a phone at full MSRP.
* This would be physical damage, cosmetic damage, lost phone, stolen phone, liquid damage, cracked screens, housing damage, etc
** This would be defects in the phone itself such as swollen battery, blown speaker, dead spots in the screen, non-traumatic charging port failures, etc.
Accessories bundled with the device are not included in TEP protection (chargers, headphones, etc)
DHRP phones can be new or reconditioned depending on the age of the product (the older it get's the more likely you are to get a recon) and will either be the same phone or something comparable. If you bring in a broken Galaxy S II don't expect to walk out with a Note.
---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:43 PM ----------
I forgot to mention, TEP can be added during the 14 day return policy or after an eligible repair. If you bring in an uninsured phone, pay to have it fixed, TEP can be added afterwards.
Care may allow you to add TEP up to 30 days out but it doesn't always stay on the account if you do it at the store after 14 days from purchase (System may kick it off if it doesn't see a TEP eligible transaction).
Being a tech for sprint I will tell you that TEP is available for our phones. I have it on mine. I believe that when they say it's not available they are most likely referring to the TEP app you can download. The app usually takes some time to be made compatible with new devices.
The TEP app allows things like GPS location of your phone, remote wipe, etc and can only be used if you have TEP service on your account.
I am also a tech for Sprint and to clear things up, we are required to fix the phone, even if it is technically "your fault." With three exceptions. If the device is liquid damaged or the screen is shattered, or the board is damaged, it is supposed to be sent through Asurion.
Now, the lines drawn for liquid damage are kind of a grey area. Technically, if the litmus papers are triggered, it could be considered liquid damaged. But at my store, we give the customer the benefit of the doubt and have to see actual liquid or corrosion.
Also, the shattered screen thing, is supposed to be an Asurion claim, but at my store, we will generally fix the phone unless the we don't have the part to do so. We try to take care of the customer as much as possible.

I'm about to take my chances in having my wife's SGS3 fixed. She has a slight crack that goes through the center of the glass. It's not shattered by any means, but I more or less assumed that the phone being 3 months old, it would be covered by warranty. I do have TEP on it though.

Thanks for doing that. I was turned away from my local Sprint store for having a shattered screen on my Evo 4G. The "greeter" took one look at it and wouldn't give me the time of day - didn't even offer to fix me up with a new phone. I was off contract and he might have made a sale that day. Instead, his attitude convinced me to buy my new LGOG straight from Sprint instead of through him.
Thanks for providing good customer service - I only wish I lived in GR near you!!!

I am sure he feels bad for missing out on an upgrade that would have paid him 4 bucks. Scratch that, when you gave him a bad survey score for making you buy a phone when yours was "repairable" he would have lost money anyway. He really missed out.

I wont go into details, but honestly first time i've ever completely destroyed a phone.
Short story, fell out of my pocket getting into vehicle.
I've always had insurance and still do, so I took it in to a Sprint store to get it looked at.
Initially the lady that I first went to, saw my phone looked up my account, and said ok its still in warranty, so I'll get you a replacement.
Then some dude came over and told her that she cant do that, and to get it serviced through their equipment protection plan.
Is there anyway this can get fixed without paying the replacement fee/copay?

What exactly got damaged on the phone? If the screen was cracked then due to the policy change about 2 years ago you'll have to go through insurance not sprint. They now consider that physical damage that's not repairable in store. Your out of luck.
I don't remember but is the insurance deductible really 299? In November I chose best buy insurance instead of sprint due to always having issues at sprint. The third party centers were better in my area than the actual retail store but sprint decided to shut down the third party center here. Oh well.

The whole thing is busted, the screen is completely trashed, outside casing is beaten up and effed, missing the screen glass in the corners of the screen, and the back will not snap on in places. I have insurance, Just with bad timing I would need to replace both mine and my girlfriends as she had broken her a few days later. Hence the $299 I was saying $150 per phone for the deductable.

Best thing is to pay for insurance replacement. It's better to get a new one then try to repair. Unless sprint will order a replacement at no charge which will be almost impossible. Good luck

This is why I will NEVER buy my devices from Sprint. I always buy at Radio Shack because you can destroy your phone, walk in the store and walk out with a brand new one and not a refurbished piece of **** that Sprint makes you pay $50 more bucks for.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don't know of any tips to help.
On a side note, this is why I don't get the insurance. I think it's a total rip off for the most part. People pay around $7 to $10 a month, which works to around $168 to $240 over two years. Not the issue. But then you have play additional $100 to $150 dollars deductible. This works out ok earily in the life cycle of the phone, but towards the end, it's the same cost for a new phone out of contract. And you don't get a choice on the deductible like with car insurance. I think a more reasonable deductible is $50 with the same insurance rate.
Granted, I don't know the numbers of how many broken phone claims the insurance company or Sprint get. It's possible, people, in general, are reckless with them and are having to replace them like underwear. My guess, probably not, and it's just easy money for the most part.

They have better rates than bestbuy and sprint, and a lower deductible..has anyone heard of this company before? I'm like 4 days into having my note 4 and kinda thinking about insurance. bestbuy decided to impliment a protection plan identical to sprints. :/
No. But you have got me interested. Im going to call them this week and get some more info. 11 bucks a month for sprints insurance, its half the cost. One thing about insurion (or what ever their name is), i know for a fact they pay claims. Ive used them once when I dropped my droid razr maxx hd in my coffee. Had a new phone in 2 days. Not sure how reliable this one is. But Im definitely interested in knowing more. One thing that is a red flag is it has Sprints deductible at 200 bucks. Mine is 100 bucks, or at least it used to be.
Let me know what you find out. Ill do the same after I call them.
Thanks for the info. Good to know there is some competition for mobile device insurance.
AS FOR ME.....GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH
Unfortunately with the premium phones the deductible is $200 and $300 if you lose the phone. I will be looking into this tomorrow also.
I would read the reviews on Amazon, I was all for buying through square trade... Now I am rethinking it
I actually use to sell Square Trade and use them for all my electronics (except phones because I haven't broken one yet). If you read the comments you'll see that they're 5 star rated on Amazon and have an A+ rating with the BBB as well as numerous awards for customer service. They're totally worth it though I'm not familiar with their phone policies, I only TV, computer, and tablet warranties.
I do know that if you intend on keeping the phone for the full two years you can just buy the insurance instead of doing monthly installments. In the end it saves you around 50% give or take.
If you want more info call them or go in to a TigerDirect, they sell them there. You can get a device anywhere and buy the Square Trade at Tiger, just make sure to tell them you saw the online price and it was cheaper, it'll knock down the price.
Squaretrade is about the same as any warranty, customer service is ok, once you speak to a supervisor. Most lower reps don't know what they are talking about, when my note 3 screen cracked they replaced it with a new phone from amazon, but I was told that was a one time deal. Otherwise it is "gently used" or open box items. I paid 89 for two years with them, but I am also paying 13 a month with sprint and will probably stick with sprint unless Squaretrade does that again. Only recommend them if you don't want to shell out a monthly payment with sprint

Have we found out anything else regarding squaretrade? I haven't had a chance to call them at all but I'm thinking of just going with best buys insurance, even if the deductible is crazy high. ..
I have SquareTrade on both of my tablets but fortunately I never used the policy... I would insure my phone with them but they don't cover theft or loss like Sprint does.

Come on guys, Google is your friend! Squaretrade is either $5 a month or $99 for two years. They don't cover loss or theft and their deductible is $75. Across the board they're more affordable than everyone else. You can also get it on any device at any time, you just have to prove it's working I guess.

I am interested in switching to square trade but other than theft coverage Sprint's tep has one other benefit. There have been times where I go to a Sprint store for an issue, like my wifi radio not working anymore or something else. They have replaced it for free. Sometimes with a new device.
It looks like with square trade it's cheaper but you get a refurbished or used device.

Sprint TEP will replace with used/refurbished phone also. It even states that in the fine print. It even says they can replace with different device of equal value.
I've used squaretrade for years, they're a good route to take, but as with any contract, be sure to read the terms and understand what you're reading.

Yep I know. That's why I said "some times with a new device".
