Does it bring battery life savings?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Short answer: yes with a small note.
Long answer: RFS (stock file system) isn't all that great. In theory, Ext4 should write to disk much less. Writing to disk takes much more battery juice than reading from disk, so you should save a bit of battery life each time you store something to internal storage.

This is just an idea, but the android phones that seem to have longer battery lives all have low RAM compared to the higher end devices.
Are we needlessly draining power by loading more apps into our larger RAM? Since it isn't a persistent memory form it will always pull a current when in use.
Therefore the larger the memory, the more current would be drained. I don't know how much of an effect this would have but is there anyway we can control how much RAM the desire has access to in order to test?
Well I think its probably more to do with high end phones loading more apps at startup, having bigger brighter screens and having bigger power hungry processors. The power for ram would be very small.
Not necessarily, phones like the Samsung Spica have good battery life & comes with a 800Mhz processor.
I just want to know if there is a way of fashioning a kernel at 256-384MB. People have played around for a long time with undervolting with little luck so why not this?
always worth a try. Any saving on the desire battery is a bonus I am nearly always on 30% after a day of light use.
Dynamic memory modules (ram) use full power regardless of load or current free/used space.

What exactly is the info stored in the file? I just got a new stock battery since the old one shorted out, and I have always tried to run down the phone as quickly as possible so I can recharge it again, with every power option at max. Is this bad? Is the batt stats file based on the time it takes to drain or does the drain speed affect anything?

Fastboot (Hibernation) works on my phone now, with one of the HD ROMs.
Have a few questions:
1) Will it damage my phone in any way?
2) If I remove battery after hibernating, I must cold boot. Is this normal? Ideally we should be able to remove battery, put it back in and have fastboot....
3) If its something to do with removing battery, will it drain my phone's battery out even when I've hibernated it? How much would that be?
1. No damage is done, as far as I know.
2. It is normal, it is reported on the DHDs, too.
3. It drains the battery, but it is almost next to null.
Blackberries have done it for years... I left one off in my drawer for a week or so and it still powered on... low battery but it had lasted awhile!

Hmm... thanks a ton for the info!
Ofcouse you have to cold boot if you pull the battery. When you hibinate the current state of your device is stored using a portion of the devices ram called the misc partition. Obviously ram is volatile memory so when the batt is pulled the ram is wiped.....

How much does overclocking affect battery life?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Frankly, as long as I have everything else set up right, it doesn't make a difference. I'm now at a stable 1.3-200 range without problems. Get CPUSpy. You will learn your phone sits in quiet states when you aren't using it. I think I maxed the 1.3 range at like 15% while my wife was shopping. If you don't have your charger or an extra battery with a smartphone and expect it to fulfill your dreams, you will be sorely disappointed. Calibrating your battery also does wonders. Dunno why.
I just got a hi cap battery for my EPIC just for the sole purpose of being able to take full advantage of its amazing screen and overlocking ability. I have been on Syndicate Frozen 1.1.1 for a while and want to use it more but with the limited battery life i dont.
Now that i have the big battery i plan on streaming and using my device to its full potential.
With the screen being about 70 -75% of the battery drain, and the radio's (3g/4g/wifi) being about 10% (this is true for most people that use the phone, not idle) OCing maybe accounts for 2% on light use (not playing games movies) and maybe 5-7% when maxing out the cpu or using performance settings; So in short I wouldn't worry about it, and those percentages for battery drain I gave for the OCing are on the high side, actual #'s are lower for 95% of users that OC I'm serious when I say that, so don't worry about OCing draining your battery...

The high capacity battery I bought died at about the same rate and time of day as the stock battery? Am I alone or is there some sort of noticeable difference? I only ask cuz someone mentioned a hi cap battery

Some of the hi-cap batteries bought off Ebay come off a non-reliable production line. I bought one and it works pretty well, but others just have crappy batteries. YMMV and not all batteries are created equally.
Also, charge to full and wipe battery stats in CWM. Give it a couple days and see if that helps.

It can be worse than that, quite often the claim is just an outright lie. A good example is a battery that claims to hold twice the capacity, while retaining the same size, for 20 bucks... the reality is likely that it's a worse battery than the stock with a false sticker appended to it.
If you don't need a larger back door for your high capacity battery, then it's probably not what it claims to be. Likewise, the legit high capacity batteries still are generally not as good as claimed.
I don't personally overclock, but it obviously can put strain on the battery more-so than normal. But if you're not overclock gaming non-stop, it's likely negligible. More to the point though, if you can safely underclock your phone when the screen is off, then you can save battery!
How is your A100 battery life?
I've heard its pretty bad from multiple people.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I've had mine now for a couple of days now and can report that battery life indeed is rather crappy. After an hour and a half or so of intensive use watching youtube, playing games, etc. the battery can go from 100% to 60%. Casual use reading books and with wifi off seems to drain the battery much more slowly.
Nevertheless, I like it much better than my iPad (which has a much better battery life) because it's pocketable (for large pockets) and I'll probably be mostly using it for an ebook reader. The form factor is perfect for this.
I would say if you're into heavy gaming / movies, and take lots of long flights then avoid this at all costs, otherwise it may not be that bad depending on your usage. For me it's not such a big deal.

Well multiple informed you wrong. Is it the best out there in the terms of battery life? No, but I get a full day out of it without a problem. I use it to surf the web, play music, a few games, tether to my phone via bluetooth for texting, etc...
If I used it nonstop I would guess that it lasts 6-7 hours with the screen on, longer when the screen is off playing music.
I also have a Nook Color and I would have to agree the battery is slightly less then the Nook but the device is much more powerful as well. The Nook's standby time is much better then the a100 but if it is used they are comparable with the Nook getting a slight edge.
A lot of people complain if they have to charge the device every night, I say so what. I also have to charge my phone every night. I have both chargers next to my night stand and when I go to sleep I am not using them so let them charge for the next day.
The WiFi and the GPS are the biggest drain during idle times I have my WiFi set to turn off with the screen. The GPS hunts for a lock all the time. I fixed it by replacing the GPS config file with one found on XDA that allows for a faster lock.
The only downfall I have with this device is the lack of a recovery or custom rom development. I hope that by the time ICS is released we have a upgrade path to install it.

+1 from me. Literally everything painter said, is what I find as well. 6 to 7 hours of constant use might be pushing it though. I'd guess it's more like 5 to 6. Maybe I just use the backlight set a bit higher.
And yes, the GPS on this thing KILLS the battery really really fast.
Painter, what's the link to the replacement config file?
Yeah, I also have the same feelings for the battery life. Sure, it could be better, but it will last me all day of on and off use. It might be a pain for traveling, but so far, it has served me well.
I don't have a problem with the GPS it only turns on for specific apps but it never just randomly tries to find my location.
I wish the battery was better, but it took my son over 5 straight hours to kill it playing games nonstop. I leave the gps toggled off. For regular use, it will run pretty much all day.

I think that this was the one. There are many gps fixes on XDA. Search for gps.conf for instructions. I was looking for a fix for my phone and put the file on my A100 also. fixed it right up.
Painter, could you upload your gps.conf or cut and paste the contents? I tried the one at the link and it didn't seem to help.
Here is the one that I am using.
1) download the attached file.
2) rename the file to gps.conf
3) put the file on your tablet using adb or root explorer
3a) adb method.
adb shell "mount -o remount rw /system"
adb push gps.conf /system/etc/
reboot the tablet3b) use root explorer to copy the file to /system/etc and reboot the tablet.
4) make sure the clock on your tablet is correct. ( I use clocksysc from the market )
5) install GPS Status from the market.
6) start GPS status. ( the GPS antenna seems to work best if the tablet is held with the SD card slot up. ) It may take a while to get a lock the first time but after the first time the lock will be much faster after that.
Wrong forum. I delete my post.
Sorry

About battery life...
I have a 80G9 Turbo with HDD.
I recently removed the 256GB internal hard drive, and replaced it with a SSD.
I choose a Samsung 840pro (7mm) 128GB, because it has a very low consumption (256GB SSD was too expensive...)
A little difficult to do, and I was afraid to break my machine (and the warranty is lost!) , but now I successfully increased my battery life.
Before it was less than 6 hours (intensive), now i can work for 7 hours or more
(But no real speed increase...)
