Error code-18
Had a problem updating apps from the market. Followed the link in this thread and sure enough there it was under android secure. File name is "smdl2tmp1.asec" plug phone into pc and look for file under android secure. Seems you have to do this on the pc, I tried to find the file without connecting to pc with no luck. As soon as you delete that file you'll be able to update apps again. Make sure you delete only the specified file. Nothing else. Wouldn't have been able to do it without xda, couldn't find a straight answer anywhere till I looked here. Hope this helps somebody. And thank you xda for being there for us android users

Worked for me... Thanks a lot...

Superuser doesn't show prompt to allow permissions

Hello all, I tried searching through some threads but couldn't find anything. I have racings ics build on my phone and I was able to install superuser but for some reason when I try to open root explorer or TB the prompt to allow the apps doesn't show up. I've tried updating superuser and wiping cache and fixing permissions. Has anyone had this problem?

i know this has been answered, but for future - did you check the settings in SuperUser?
there is a way change how/when they appear.
Yeah I checked that and messed atound with the prompt settibg and ut didn't do anything. Flashing the new superuser file provided fixed it though

I have flashed that SuperUser app more than 20 times but it still doesn't install. CWM says installation is successful, but it doesn't pop up.

att fusion 2 / u8665

Hello so I am new to these forums but have used them in the past for assistance. I have been trying to root a att fusion 2 aka u8665 ive seen a couple posts on here about how to and someone said they were successful but vauge steps cause frustration.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920528
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976657
As i said i have been trying for a while and basically tried everything listed in those two posts, also the post where they said they managed to attain root through fastboot confused me. From what i understood fastboot needs root to be able to operate, otherwise the steps in the post about using adb i just keep running into permission issues where i cant mount anything to root it.
I had trouble myself, but figured it out. I recompiled all the files posted by RFE.

thank you for the quick response, but see the issue i was having is that fastboot is installed through the adb, yet i cant get it to recognize my device. but again thanks for the quick reply but one last thing this recovery.img is it a pre rooted image?

If anyone else would like to contribute please do. I've had 5 attempts at registering this type of device without triggering a call-home. I've swapped out 90% of all the components that brand the phone AT&T (including huawei-hardware-extensions & mobile phone "care"??). When using Titanium Backup you will notice that some of the specially protected APK files cannot be removed or "found" - you will get the message "APK file not found." The only way to get around this is to use fastboot and pull the file from the device before removing it. If you remove the wrong system APK your phone won't be bricked, but it will give you infinite android.acore force close loops and other nasty crippling bugs (such as no touch-keys backlight). If you want to be sure that you are not doing any damage, do a full reboot and cache clear after uninstalling any of the AT&T prepaid system components. Many of the system components can not be removed or replaced with other versions until their dependencies are replaced or removed as well. Titanium Backup once again comes in handy and lets you select an android ID or "profile" which is a UID that is tied to your Google Play / Android Market account. You will have to create a new random Android ID after you have have replaced all the apps. Make sure you remove any files like Twitter that have been specially made for this phone & include a long unique ID like Twitter-3-6-0-(123456)--00000_V300_001.APK - the phone is incredibly fast without any google or ATT stuff on it.

[Q] Still without root...

So, I have tried time and time again, and am still no closer to getting my phone rooted. I have spent hours reading all over these forums, and Google in general, and have yet to get a straight answer to my question as to why my phone refuses to root.
I am thankful for the advice offered, such as trying SuperOneClick that does... well, nothing. [Says my device has no drivers, yet,. Windows sees my phone as an Android device, and the program generally locks up after]. Was told that my image is faulty, and yet, somehow it's still installed on the device/working fine. [Was suggested to re-download the CW MOD image, and re-install] And it just goes on and on... then silence from the community.
So, to boil it down to the nitty-gritty, the only thing I am getting is, while I -attempt- to install SuperUser via CW, I get this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed!
So, please, someone, assist me in getting my phone rooted!

try installing superSU...
Now, super one click ... don't use it, it isn't for our roms.
you should be using Odin to flash CW, and then downloading roms and flashing with CW
If you want support from the community, why not offer more information...
What are you running now ? UCLH ? UCLJ ? Jellybean, Gingerbread, ICS ? How did you obtain the version that is running on your phone now ?
i've discovered the only way to root Gingerbread is to download a pre-rooted rom.
ICS, install CW w/ Odin and then flash supersu or superuser .... There was, at a time, I couldn't get ICS to root and had to download a specific SU or SuperSU not on google store that I found by searching the forums ....
Give us more info, as much and as detailed as possible and we can help you further.

I used the official update from Samsung when it was fully released... finally. So, running 4.0.4.
What's SuperSU? Is that different?
For more details, I posted already to the fourms here before they went silent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35750419 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35811065
As you can see, I tried everything, it's like my phone's being annoying... is it do-able to just re-set the phone to stock Gingerbread, and then just update using another ROM? And, if so, what one do I use? I just want a stable experience. Like, with the leak that came out not too long before the official, there was the keyboard error, and I even had issues with placing and receiving calls...
At this point, it's getting to the point where I am willing to basicly go back to out-of-the-box, then root the sucker, if I can do that. Seems perhaps a clean slate is in order, anywho.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

#1 what version of Odin are you using?
#2 What version of CWM are you using? Where did you download it from ? (Here I hope : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007198 )
#3 Where did you get SuperSU from?
#4 Are you downloading it with your phone's browser, or are you downloading it to a computer and transferring via USB ? (It's possible you have a bad flash card/RAM in the computer/physical hard drive in computer).
Do NOT use Superoneclick, there is no SOC that will work for our phone.
It has been some time since I have used ICS. I had completed the stock download from samfirmware.com, installed CWM 6 with Odin 1.85 and (taadaa) attached to this thread the same version of Superuser I used to install via CWM.
I stumbled on this randomly.. no usb hubs i guess..
Are you using a USB that is a direct connection to the motherboard? usually that can cause issues, if your not on a connection to the motherboard it won't work..

From my computer, via USB, and not likely at all. Every component is new, and to make it more amusing, I did all this in the past with the leaked ROM before I got this new system on my last compy, so, yeah... if -both- computers does the -exact- same thing... prolly time to format the phone, and try again, somehow?

..okes.. I feel like somewhat of an idiot. I decided to just try one last time to get the recovery mod in there again, and, for whatever stupid reason, instead of seeing a blank background with the Android, I saw the CW icon, and a silver icon... I told it to apply SuperUser as I have tried so many other times, and it just... worked.
The closest thing I can figure is that my browser, and my eyes told me that I had multiple copies of the current CW Mod, but, in my working directory, I unzipped the -old- version.
To make it simple; I -now- have root on my Glide, woot!

[Q] Play Store issues

I am on 4.1.2 Jellyverse v3.0 but that isn't that important...on the play Store, I can download (almost) any app, but with a few apps when I download them I get an error (see attached photo). I've read up, looking for fixes, one talks of deleting a file within ".android_secure" but there's nothing in the folder. Anyone else run into this issue and if so how did you fix it?
Thanks!

If it's not too late from now, you could try to flash THIS RECOVERY in Mobile Odin Lite, but it will still result in being unable to install to USB or SD Card. Then, reboot into that recovery and flash the recovery listed below in the attachments field, and it should fix everything for you. [Q] Question about Xperia Play

Hi,
I have a few questions. First, I would like to update the YouTube app on my Xperia Play, but it doesn't show up in the Google Play Store. My phone is rooted and running Android version 2.3.2. So, is the latest YouTube app compatible with it?
Second, if my phone's OS is too outdated to do anything useful, is there any safe way to update it without losing root access or personal data?
Third, my phone has an 8GB microSD in it, and I'm able to use it. The SD has 7.38 GB left. I'm trying to download a 1.5 MB app, and it says that my phone has insufficient space. I think it's because it's trying to save it to the built-in storage. Is there a fix to this? Thanks.
For your third question, search the market for the app MarketFix.

Rooting is not what it used to be like with the first android phones and iphones its very safe! Doomlords methods are extremely safe and usually oneclick! The worst that will happen is it wont root and it will reboot your phone. All of these root methothods have safety features built in whivh automatically clean up your system and remove all traces of root if it doesnt work so that your system will not brick.
The only time ive ever had issues it was always my fault and it only took me a short while to fix. I pretty much ezclusively use doomlord.
