[Q] Oxygen notification widgets in DevNull? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I know alot of people were asking about this in the DevNull thread originally but now that Oxygen 2.0 is out it must be easier?
As much as I like Oxygen, Devnull just felt that little bit faster and the only extra feature I use is the notification widgets.
My (extremely limited) understanding is that this stuff is stored in system_ui.apk - would it be as simple as putting the oxygen apk into the devnull rom before flashing? Or would there be specific code that needs to be extracted and recompiled into the devnull stuff.
Cheers
(trying to keep oxygen and devnull threads clean, mods are cranky lol)

No. Adam said that the Google code changed for 2.3.3 and so the Oxygen Updater and Settings had to be rewritten and so on so you couldn't just whack it on. Oxygen 2.0 works just fine, just like DevNull. DevNull was just a straight 2.3.3 port from Nexus S (I think) with nothing else changed because like I said, the stuff Adam added had to be rewritten. The only difference between DevNull and Oxygen is the added settings and that's about it. So if you have DevNull and want the power widgets, just get Oxygen because it is the exact same thing.

Not sure you get me.
I understand you can't pull it from RC7, but given 2.0 final and devnull run on the same 2.3.3 base wouldn't you be able to pull it from oxygen final?
I just found devnull faster, and have no need for a2sd and the likes.

Sorry yeh was thinking about something else. You could try it, prob will work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Finally home so gave it a shot, just results in FC of systemui.
Nandroid is a wonder

Won't be possible - the pulldown Widgets are built into the framework, the systemui.apk and the oxygensettings.apk
Btw, the app2sd scripts in oxygen don't do anything at all if you don't have an ext3 partition on your SD card

What rom do you use at the moment and why?

We have got many good developers here working on different ROMS.
I just would like to know what ROM are you all using at the moment and why.
I used most of the time Sense rom from Leedroid. I love his boot image and the fact it is sense rom. I tried Sense HD and I like it, but until the camera works is no good for me for day to day use. Last couple of days I use MIUI and it is really different but nice (like iphone OS but on better device)
I've used Defrost, Opendesire, Villainrom, SupervillainHD and Oxygen. Like the ASOP roms the best, as they are the fastest, allow me to choose the addons more (not 3 or more programs for one task, if i don't want to use Sense apps), and are more versatily (at least, appear to me to be so).
Moved to general as this is in no way pertaining to ROM development.
fair enough. I just tought the poll might help people to choose a rom to use/try.
I am using pinky desire classsic at the moment .
CM 6.1 RC - cause simply I hate to update alot. I'm considering it the latest satisfying my needs!
using pays sense rom
tried auraxtsense rom, but reverted back to pays
it has the best dialer i have seen in a rom.
would like to try sense HD, but wont until they fix the camera

What does Stock mean if you've got Sense?? Sense is stock on the Desire...

By sense rom he probably mean roms like leedroid etc.
On that assumption I voted stock as I'm running the stock 2.29.405.2 WWE ROM
Why? As it does all I need it to
OpenDesire
I went from stock ROM to OpenDesire 4.0.36. I do not miss Sense at all and BT keyboard now works (why, HTC, oh why?). The only thing I miss from Sense is the weather widget.
Too bad OpenDesire will not be updated any longer as from the final 4.1 version. I hope it gets Gingerbread (2.3) in the final build.
Leedroid, because it has apps2sd by default and is pretty clean and has some other nice little touches (but still pretty close to stock) like a transparent notification drawer
I tried all rom types, but in the end I return to Sense. People who say AOSP or Cyanogen are faster have clearly never used a sense rom. It's at least on par and scrolling is smoother.

yes that's exactly what I mean
Teppic74's Rom and tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
With the GPU and SD card patched kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819601
And a theme I made using UOT kitchen.
I like sense, and I wanted something relatively close to stock but with A2SD and a few other bits and pieces.

Oxygen vs Ginger Villain

I am currently on the ginger villain Rom but I'm thinking of trying out the oxygen Rom.
As both are Android 2.3, what are the main differences between the two?
Oxygen does seem to be more popular though as its thread has more views and replies.
Not tried ginger villain but the final version of Oxygen should be out shortly so it may be wise to wait for that before swapping.

if you want more stock then go for oxygen, but if you cant live without cm addons stick with GV
I was on oxygen for a while and have since switched to gingervillain. I found oxygen too unstable for me...lots of FCs. No issues with gingervillain.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have Oxygen 2.0 running on my phone. No problems yet. No FC's. Seems to be running fine. I would say the choice of rom is down to you.
oxygen any day.....flawless
Well, i think Oxygen is on 2.3.3, GV1.2 is still on 2.3.2. Huge difference... not really.
Both are pretty snappy.
I am trying both out atm. Have made a backup of both so i can see what differences there are in UI experience.
I have been a fan of GV so far from 0.9, but i like the minimalistic design of Oxygen.
Had no FC's on both rom's, they're running very good on my phone, i always wipe everything before installing a rom.
GV is essentially cyanogenmod recompiled by rt. Oxygen is built from the aosp source, with specific mods added, and uses minimal amounts of code from CM

[Q] Which ROM?

Hi all, I have HTC desire and I am constantly running out of internal memory I am going to root the phone to solve this. I am a complete noob to this so which custom ROM would be easy to install and stable out of the following Cyanogenmod7, LeeDroid 3.0.5 or MIUI ROM, Thanks
Id try the cyanogenmod or miui.
Cyanogenmod 7 or Gingervillain plus CMHBOOT(from alpharev.nl) can solve your problem I think
Thanks for replies jroc716 & plohoi. I will have closer lock at the ROMS ye have recommended
all these rom's r running fast and stable. internal-memory problems had gone by integrating ext-partition(s). so which rom u take is just a matter of ur personal favors.
I have had look at the ROMS suggested in this tread and I am going to flash MIUI Rom by xavierjohn22 but not sure which version is most stable. Should I flash the froyo version (2.2) or 2.3.4 gingerbread (latest version) or 2.3 gingerbread. . I be grateful for any help on this, thanks
1st of all you better obtain an SD Card at least Class4 then follow the guide with the link I will give below. This will help you move your applications to SD and have more space.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
And as a ROM Choice, better use InsertCoin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
Thanks alpivelopx for the reply. Ya I have class 4 SD card and I have carefully studied the noob proof guide just can’t make up my mind on which rom to flash.
I likr the look of MIUI have any experience using this rom? Which version is most stable?
I have had a look at InsertCoin and having the new Sense would be cool.
I use google maps a lot and assume this bug “compass doesn't always point north” will be a problem. Is there a stable Froyo version?

At first: One cannot say, which is the best rom. It's a personal feeling. You should read the posts where the authors describe there themes and then you should decide. If you cannot, just try one. If you like it, stay with it.
I think you should install the latest version of MIUI. It's usually the most stable version.
I cannot find a (stable) Froyo version of Insertcoin. Maybe ask the author (baadnewz) if he can upload it for you.
Thanks Matdroid, I think your right. I'll try a few roms and decide which is best for me.
I can recommend Leedroid 2.4.1.
A very good and stable Sense rom with A2SD+!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Like others have said... it's more of a personal opinion with ROMs as to their speed and usefulness but if you can get by with the compass issue until it gets resolved (hopefully shouldn't be too long as devs are working like crazy at porting sense 2.1/3.0 to desire) I warmly recommend InsertCoin.
The chef is pushing updates like there's no tomorrow an also makes time to answer people's questions (how he manages it I don't know...) and also you have all the info you need in the first 2 post of the thread.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
PS: regarding speed, keep in mind that benchmark apps (Quadrant) don't tell the full tale. Try the ROMs for yourself.
I second leedroid 2.4.1..... fast and stable with a2sd+. I wouldn't bother with gingerbread yet still a bit buggy
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
+1 on leedroid 2.4.1
My first not-htc-rom was leedroid v.3.0.5. It was nice. But since a while i use redux v1.2. I like it much more than leedroid, although you have to readjust a little to use a non-sense-rom.
The best froyo sense rom is the InsertCoinHD 2.0.1 Data2Ext.
The best gingerbread rom is InsertCoin v25 CM7.
Keep in mind that Cynogenmod and Miui don't include Htc Sense on it.
I've been using on Leedroid (froyo) for sometime and it was great and stable.
I'm running now Insertcoin v25 (gingerbread) and it's also great. I got 2 issues that I can live with - the compass issue (not pointing north) and the camera makes my phone boot itself sometimes. but other than that it's great.
Both roms have a2sd+, and if you want something stable than I recommend Leedroid 2.4.1. After some time you can get gingerbread roms based on the official release from htc (something like mid-june or a bit later)
Hi
Hmm running out of internal Space *gg*
I Recommend you use InsertCoin, or an ROM Which fits on CM Hboot, Here is the System Partition smaller, difference space is added to userdata, so "more internal" Memory for you.
Pls. Think if you change your SD Card, or crash of it, your OS Cant booting because 1/3 of our System is stored on it. (sdext)
S-Off required.
If you don´t want to manipulate hboot (afraid of crashing bootloader), use any App2SD Rom.
I have many Problems with DATA2SD and DATA2Whatever Scripts.
App2SD is very good.
*I User Insertcoin GS_V26* and i´m happy with it.
Baadnewz is providing these Rom with STock or CM Hboot.
Just Look at a few Roms, (Download 2-3 Roms and test it) an fix install it, which you mostly like. ))

@MindVision1Thanks for the reply. I am right in saying the Hboot resizes the internal memory to allocate different amount of space to the system. You can get different hboot's from http://alpharev.nl/ so I am right in saying the cm hboot you recommend is the Bravo CM7 on alpharev site.
So If I go with the CM Hboot I have to get a custom rom that fits the 130MB system memory and will also have 300MB free for apps on the internal memory.
If some of the rom is on the sd card and I remove it or it gets damaged I will have a major problem?
How do you know what size a ROM is?
My desire is stock with no branding

which rom should i use

hey there guys, just wanting some advice currently i have mine and a friend i know using RCMixHD v3.6 i think its great, if a little problematic, but my friend whos phone i rooted and installed RCMixHD v3.6 isnt really any good at all this and if problems arise he has no idea how to fix it. So what im looking for is the best rom to get him using that is trouble free, but that also gives more space for apps, IMO the only problem with these desires is the lack of space for apps.
So guys you lot are the experts, whats the best desire rom that gives more space for apps, preferably i think without partitioning the memory card. cos i think thats whats causing the problems he gets.
If You don't want to partition SD card try one of AOSP roms, but the best way to get more spare for apps is to partition SD and flash A2SD+ rom.
Go s-off and flash either Oxygen or CM7 hboot then the corresponding rom. Personally I have CM7 because I find it better. Anyway, I'd you need to, you can setup A2SD later if need be but you do get 300+ MB of storage with these hboots.
I don't like to use A2SD because for 1, I have a slow card, class 2 and second, it can really **** up.

I'd rather go with Redux or Oxygen. and trick them out with apps.
I'm using RCMix S 1.6.1 A2SD+ and it's really fast and stable. I've got lot of, ~50 apps, and phone running without any lags. Updates are very often ~1-2 in a week. It's even work on s-on phones. Only condition is sd partition, but if you want a lot of space you need to have one.
Swyped from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you want ROM with sense i would go with Leedroid 3.0.6 (stable, fast and has App2SD out of the box). If you want ROM without sense, i would go with Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. It doesn't come with App2SD by default, but you can easily install it.
Well, maybe you should just try out?
Start with oxygen or devnull, install apps, make sure sync all to cloud.
After that try other roms, everytime you flash new rom - get your apps and settings from cloud...
That's what I do when I'm bored and wanna try a new rom....

Might want to check on that, the RCMix team are responsible for some of the best, most stable, and most regularly updated ROM's on the HD/Sense3 side so they DO know how.
I would second RCMix, problem is it's by the same guys..
i go with reflextsense 2.05 by now, and downloading.
for me it's fast n stable.
thanks to Neo..
I have used cm, oxygen, insertcoin, leedroid, but my favourite of all is Reflex S by Neo. Currently using 2.0.5, but may switch back to 2.0.2 as I prefer the newer messages app.

I rooted my Desire I think a month ago now.
Since then I tried Modaco R26, Cyanogen 7.02, Redux, Defrost and since two days I am using F1 Cyanogen.
I like Defrost very much, it's Froyo (love the froyo white statusbar theme) and it's small and fast. I also like Redux, Gingerbread, but also small and fast.
F1 is Cyanogen based, stripped from lots of stuff that you can dl yourself from the market afterwards if you want. Very nice too.
Some odd thing (to me), I have one or two apk's, like simple clock widget, in some ROM's (Defrost) it will install in English and I will see it in English in Market too, in others (Redux and F1) it's only available in Chinese and if I install the same apk it also turns up as a Chinese version on my phone..

Customs Roms

Im not a noob with rooting and different roms and stuff. But is there anyway to take parts of roms and combine them and make a personalized custom rom with everything you want on it? like for example can i take the mms.apk from a sense 3.0 rom and put in on the CM7 rom or an ultimate droid rom?
Definitely possible, .apk's should be easy to transfer over.
This is off the top of my head, but you should be able to extract the ROM .zip file, find the .apk you want, then just put it on your SD card and run it using a file manager or terminal emulator (harder to use).
As always I would suggest you fully backup, when you're doing stuff like this it's experimental, so it's very possible the mms.apk will not play well with your current ROM and may force close. If that's the case, it may need other files to run (those files would be in the original ROM) and that would become a project that I wouldn't be able to help you with. You would then need to really, merge those two ROM's together in order to get that .apk to work.
Even so, I'm not sure on how possible it is as some manufacturers like HTC make it extremely difficult to use their app's without having an HTC Sense ROM.
Yea i tried that with root explorer and it didnt work the apk wouldnt install im now guessing thats because it was a sense app and isnt compatible with my rom. But yea i was looking into finding out how to combine roms more in depth like that. but i guess thats out of both our leagues. thanks for the help though
Take a Sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid ROM and run the Senseless script, use search to find it. See if that works for Sense 3.0 Messaging on AOSP feel

I wrote a desensitize script for SkyRaider 4 (Sense 1.0) found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13667433&postcount=8499
I have NOT tried it on a sense 2.1/3.0 rom, but it will work as long as the file names are the same. Do a nandroid backup before you try it though, just in case!

Sense MMS apks will definitely not work on CM7 because it needs dependencies from the HTC frameworks, I would try what others have suggested and try to get a Sense rom and in other words "DeSense" it by removing some of the HTC apps. You can also try running CM7 and installing a 3rd party SMS app from the Market (like GO SMS Pro) if you are not happy with the Stock Android SMS app.

ok is there a way i can desensitize the rom on my computer or i have to do it on my phone? and now my next question more into how to combine roms is say for example i like the sense 3.0 unlock screen is there anyway that i could use that as my unlock screen but then keep my ultimate droid rom the way it normally is?
Not sure about desensitizing but I do know you cannot use a sense 3.0 lockscreen on an aosp rom. Although if you're wanting a fancy lockscreen, I'd recommend MIUI, or widgetlocker (works on any rom).
