I am currently on the ginger villain Rom but I'm thinking of trying out the oxygen Rom.
As both are Android 2.3, what are the main differences between the two?
Oxygen does seem to be more popular though as its thread has more views and replies.
Not tried ginger villain but the final version of Oxygen should be out shortly so it may be wise to wait for that before swapping.

if you want more stock then go for oxygen, but if you cant live without cm addons stick with GV
I was on oxygen for a while and have since switched to gingervillain. I found oxygen too unstable for me...lots of FCs. No issues with gingervillain.

I have Oxygen 2.0 running on my phone. No problems yet. No FC's. Seems to be running fine. I would say the choice of rom is down to you.
oxygen any day.....flawless
Well, i think Oxygen is on 2.3.3, GV1.2 is still on 2.3.2. Huge difference... not really.
Both are pretty snappy.
I am trying both out atm. Have made a backup of both so i can see what differences there are in UI experience.
I have been a fan of GV so far from 0.9, but i like the minimalistic design of Oxygen.
Had no FC's on both rom's, they're running very good on my phone, i always wipe everything before installing a rom.
GV is essentially cyanogenmod recompiled by rt. Oxygen is built from the aosp source, with specific mods added, and uses minimal amounts of code from CM

We have got many good developers here working on different ROMS.
I just would like to know what ROM are you all using at the moment and why.
I used most of the time Sense rom from Leedroid. I love his boot image and the fact it is sense rom. I tried Sense HD and I like it, but until the camera works is no good for me for day to day use. Last couple of days I use MIUI and it is really different but nice (like iphone OS but on better device)
I've used Defrost, Opendesire, Villainrom, SupervillainHD and Oxygen. Like the ASOP roms the best, as they are the fastest, allow me to choose the addons more (not 3 or more programs for one task, if i don't want to use Sense apps), and are more versatily (at least, appear to me to be so).
Moved to general as this is in no way pertaining to ROM development.
fair enough. I just tought the poll might help people to choose a rom to use/try.
I am using pinky desire classsic at the moment .
CM 6.1 RC - cause simply I hate to update alot. I'm considering it the latest satisfying my needs!
using pays sense rom
tried auraxtsense rom, but reverted back to pays
it has the best dialer i have seen in a rom.
would like to try sense HD, but wont until they fix the camera

What does Stock mean if you've got Sense?? Sense is stock on the Desire...

By sense rom he probably mean roms like leedroid etc.
On that assumption I voted stock as I'm running the stock 2.29.405.2 WWE ROM
Why? As it does all I need it to
OpenDesire
I went from stock ROM to OpenDesire 4.0.36. I do not miss Sense at all and BT keyboard now works (why, HTC, oh why?). The only thing I miss from Sense is the weather widget.
Too bad OpenDesire will not be updated any longer as from the final 4.1 version. I hope it gets Gingerbread (2.3) in the final build.
Leedroid, because it has apps2sd by default and is pretty clean and has some other nice little touches (but still pretty close to stock) like a transparent notification drawer
I tried all rom types, but in the end I return to Sense. People who say AOSP or Cyanogen are faster have clearly never used a sense rom. It's at least on par and scrolling is smoother.

yes that's exactly what I mean
Teppic74's Rom and tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
With the GPU and SD card patched kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819601
And a theme I made using UOT kitchen.
I like sense, and I wanted something relatively close to stock but with A2SD and a few other bits and pieces.
Hello, noob here, so be gentle. I want to install gingerbread on my desire but not sure which one to go for. What's the best one Oxygen 2.0 RC7, cyanogenmod cm7, etc.
Also one thing I'm not sure, when I go to the page of roms for the desire and click on the Gingerbread roms I'm given a list of different rom so I though I think Oxygen 2.0 might be the best so I might try this one but then I go to another page and it's about the rom and the download link is there but I have two options and not sure if I need to download only the first one (Oxygen 2.0 - RC7) cause below I also have this link to download Oxygen v1.0.4 (Froyo stable).
So do I download the first only, or both or oxygen v.1.0.4 only ?
And do i need to bother with any other files like radio, gapps...
I'm running 2.2 vodafone
Thank a lot for any advice.
What you like best is up to you.
Oxygen comes with Gapps, on Cyanogenmod you have to flash them yourself. If you go for Oxygen just download RC7, not the old froyo one, and flash it. No real need to change the radio but if you want you can change to the recommended one.
oh, i get it now. Yeah, will try oxygen as i want gapps. Exciting... Thanks a lot
Try Cm7 Its really getting stable by the day.. and it does not stop at rc7
I've had GingerVillain for a couple of weeks and I'd recommend looking at this too. Video camera working (although not yet at 720p), everything else works fine (wifi, gps, bluetooth). Included are lots of the cyanogenmod tweaks as well.
Very stable and runs well with eViollets 'battery efficient' kernel for longer battery life.
Personally I'd do some more reading up first on these.
Anything AOSP based is going to have boot-loop issues, video cameras are hacks at best etc.
I'm still running oxygen (latest test build) but it doesn't come without it's warnings.
Next couple of weeks should see the N1 OTA update and some fairly significant progress in GB for desire.
Excuse my ignorance but what is asop based ?
I also read somewhere that froyo is the last update for the desire. No more...
AOSP = Android Open Source Project...that's what all of these custom ROMs (CM7, Oxygen, etc.) are built on.
FroYo may be the last official update but, as you can see, the AOSP devs have Gingerbread running on it so you will see support for the Desire as long as the hardware supports it.
Sorry guys, I haven't flashed my rom in months - last time i did the 2 most popular were LeeDroid and Oxygen.
What are people using these days? What are the most popular ones?
Thanks!
I'm running Oxygen 2.0.2, since I want a fast, stable and minimum system
Hey. check this thread out, its got a poll that might help you decide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846926
personally im running leedroids latest still. holding out untill ginegerbread
sense. i dipped my toes in the waters of HD sense roms and CM but always
came back to leedroid.
I'm Running Redux 1.1.1 RC2 at the moment, Not had a problem with it (well infact I have, I found a very minor bug, reported it and it's going to be fixed for RC3 apparently )
I am running RCmixHD 3.5.1 ... and curious about the selling point of leedroid, better a comparison....
i personnally think Cyanagen 7, but its still testing so not 100% great yet
so recommend Oxygen
that is of course assuming you dont want sense
Got a Desire HD and have to admit I am impressed with the stock phone as is.
However many have told me that going Custom is like day/night and have decided to take the plunge.
So many choices so please recommend a ROM for first ever flash. Prefer something stable, reliable and does not drain the battery.
Cheers
With the criterias you have I would go for Android revolution 3.5 based on software version 1.84. It's stable and a rom for day to day use. And you can get it both with sense and no sense.
I personaly are using Revolution 4.0 beta, and haven't had any issues with it, but a full version of gingerbread will not be available with sense before a official or leaked version.
But it's a lot of stable ROM's out there, so in the end it's up to personal references..
Good luck

Thanks for MDJ's great work! Very fast and stable!

if u want htc sense based rom that it has to be either leedroid v2.2.3 or android revolution 3.5
or
if u want a rom with no htc sense that it has to be cynogenmod7 for Desire HD
Thanks guys, simple straight forward answers.
Android Revolution 3.5 and LeeDroid looks to be the go as I prefer HTC Sense.
I have just install CyanogenMod 7.0.0 without Sense.
Everything looking good.
Phone HTC Desire HD
ROM CyanogenMod 7.0.0
Radio 12.48.60.23P_26.08.04.07_M3
HBoot 0.85.2007
Kernal 2.6.32.35-cyanogenmod
CWM Recovery 3.0.2.5 / Manager 3.0.1.4
ENG S-OFF / Radio S-OFF
I tried Cyanogen 7, coredroid and revolution 3.5 ..
And for me revolution definitely is the fastest, most stable. The other 2 roms showed my trouble in their first day, being sluggish or even hanging. But i've been running revolution without a problem for like 2 weeks now.
I only had the soft microphone and wheater problem. But these are known (do not occur to everyone) and there are tested and working patches out for it.
In a nutshell .... Am really happy with revolution 3.5
If your after the stock look, but customizable, and want the best battery saving Froyo ROM and kernel, definitely LeeDrOiD hands down.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
RCMix 5.95, running fine on my device, nice and smooth. Also used he latest radio file and RIL file to go with it, signal and battery both seem good to me.
Hello ppl, i recently got a desire for uhh, 100 bucks
and now i see that this device has lot of ROMs.
(i'm now doing the roots and installing the recoverys)
I was looking for something simple, because this is for my brother and he is not such a geek, i just want a rom that does not have freezes or reboots, that works smooth
Does the ICS ROMs already stable or i should go for GB?
thanks ppl!
CM7 no questions asked.
Make sure to S-OFF and flash cm7 hboot to get the most space for apps
used CM7 a long time, but the ROM i used the longest is InsertCoin v1.1.4 on Stock HBOOT.
It's fast and stable, just had one issue in over 6 months which could be resolved by flashing a kernel without two way call recording.
Cyanogenmod, or Oxygen which is more barebones. Or stock Sense ROMs should be stable also. Personally I dont care for sense that much.
ICS is not stable, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out.
Stick to GB, I would recommend any of Roalex's roms, they're fantastic, even his ICS rom, which from my experience is the Best ICS rom on the desire at the moment.
Thank you everybody, now i gonna try your suggestions!
I really also liked Roalex's updated Oxygen, but it has one problem, if you move an app to sd, you can't move it back to the phone. This is using the standard apps to sd function of android. Roalexe's Cyanogen based GB rom has this issue also. I also had to restore apn's from a backup to get 3g working on the CM version. So they might not be as rock solid as original cm or oxygen.
I'm used MildWild V-4.0 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 for about 2 to 3 months, I didnt faced single issue. This was my best ROM I have used..
Hi, I would tend to say Mildwild based on oxygen too. It is very stable. Mildwild CM is also nice but last version has bugs.
First, I would say, that it's ur choice.
Everybody says Oxygen is quiet good, but in my opinion, it's very ugly.
So CM will be nice, too. But u have to choose by ur self which rom is better 4 u.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.7) version of MIUI_Au (v. 2.1.13, which you will have to google as newcomers are stupidly barred from posting outside links) is also very stable, fast, and quite aesthetically pleasing, so you might want to give it a go.
Dont want to seem like a broken record but this is my post on another thread.
I know it's still in beta but Im using ICS .10.1 by Sandvold, very stable, no issues with the mass of apps I have installed and battery is great, better than stock I find. The ROM is fast and responsive again better than stock. Tried a few GB roms and sense roms but this is the best so far.
For various reasons I have gone back to these ICS roms, battery life, BSOD's and FC's. I've tried Runny roms and MUIU though still have serious issues on my phone. Running the current rom I could pretty much not update or change it and would be happy with it. Very stable, smooth and no BSOD's since latest update. Worth considering IMO.
Insetcoin is great, I'm on that ROM very long and its smooth and stable.
People claiming ICS ROM's at the moment are the most stable are seriously brain damaged..
3 biggest issues with all of them = broken video recording, no usb tethering, sluggish (unless you use only few apps and dont need a dalvik 2 ext scripts)
Also the "Full HWA" is still a hack.
I'm not saying they are bad, but they cannot be considered as "most stable" by any means.
The most stable ROM's by now, are the AOSP ones based on Gingerbread. (CM7, Oxygen etc.)
Ok maybe they are not "eye candy" out of the box, but if you spend some time to theme it then you'll be surprised, and you actually dont need Sense or ICS ROM's to achieve it.
Some examples. http://mycolorscreen.com/popular/
Hi,
I've been using mildwild V4.0 oxygen since it is out and I'm very pleased with it.
It is stable and fast. Sometimes I miss some sense functions like rolling numbers when setting the alarm clock. But when i use a sense rom, i realize how fast mildwild really is
The best is to try some Roms. Everybody has his own preferences.
I suggest mildwild v4.0 oxygen too
Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition or MildWild CM 4.8
If you want ICS, BCM 3.7U0 but of course it's not the most stable ROM but I'm telling you this ROM is great although it says your sd-ext must be less than 1.5Gb but I'm using it with 2Gb sd-ext 4 on a class 4, 16 Gb sd card with no problem at all. Trust me on these if not the most stable only because of the usb tethering and 15fps video recording, this ROM is the most performance sucker I ever had my benchmark on quadrant advance is 1708 with this ROM and I didn't even overclock my cpu but on a stable gb ROM my benchmark was 998 with the same app.let me point out that I have 132 apps installed on the ICS but I only had 87 apps on the gb ROM.
And with mods I have made it too look like this:
I might be a new XDA-Developers user but it doesn't mean that I'm new to using its stuff, it only means that I have been dumb enough to just use and never comment!!
Hope I could Help
