I've found this topic curious. I really don't have much friends so I don't text a lot. I don't know if someone else is getting my messages or not. Just a random question, anyone?

lol. a bit odd to put that there but okay
I text maybe 5-20 txts a day, haven't had any issues whatsoever.
I believe the text bug is you're writing a text to one person and it goes to someone else in your contact list. So if you have people asking you about what you're sending, I think you should know if it was or wasn't intended for that person. Then you'd know if you have this bug.
There are specific conditions to make it do that though...and not everyone experiences it.

I have two issues with texts sometimes they send to a person I'm not typing to and sometimes when I open a text thread it'll open a different one.

Would having HTC Sense make a difference? I know HTC changes stuff so would HTC messaging app be different from AOSP messaging app? I haven't tried out an AOSP ROM, so im not too sure if they are the same app or if its different. So would the SMS bug affect HTC Sense devices?

Yeah thats the problem i have a couple times, I think it's mainly me trying to be super fast with everything and the phone not getting enough time to "register" exactly what I pressed.

Yep, I get that last one frequently. I'm impatient, I don't let the app load enough before clicking on a thread lol. The first one happened to me once, awkwardness followed lol.

Here's a quick question. I'll be 18 by the time the Incredible is exactly a year old. I'm on a family plan and I was thinking of getting my own seperate line. What do they need to get a contract?
i have an incredible and a droid 1 and i switch off between the two.
its never happened on the incredible, but once when i was on the droid i sent an explicit text and it accidentally went to a teacher (long story why she was in my call list) who was in my call list but not my contacts. it was not good for an 18 year old boy..
but thats the only time.
That's amazingly funny.

If you were already a customer they should just give you a new contract and account for yourself. They may check your credit, not 100% sure about that, but as long as you have had a few bills before that you have paid, you should be able to get your own account. That's what happened to me 8 years ago when I was 17. Things may have changed now.
In maybe four days my text messages have all deleted themselves basically instantly for no reason. This is starting to havve often enough where its a real problem.

Anyone lately getting spam text messages? I've been getting some that tell me to go online or reply to subscribe. Without me doing anything, I immediately get another confirming my subscription. This is driving me nuts. I think it might be an app but I have not installed/bought anything new in a couple of days. The only coincidence is that it started when I flashed ginger snap. I'm not saying that it is causing it but i'm out of ideas.
Anyone else experiencing this?

its definitely coming from a app. more than likely a free music downloader or something like that. they are paying for that free stuff somehow...lol
I never trust free stuff. The last apps I installed were toki Tori and tiny tower. But I installed those last week. I just started getting these spam messages yesterday.

I am beyond annoyed with Sprint as of late. For a few weeks now I have had my messages delayed or not sent. Then all of a sudden, the following day I get a bunch of old texts. People think my phone is possessed. I've had to use Google Voice to check if my messages are being sent. There are numerous complaints about this across Sprint Community and across platforms, so it's not isolated to one particular phone. Sprint is pretending like this isn't an issue. Here is just an example
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/381442
I don't know what can be done about this. I've already complained and reported it, but they claim it's not a widespread problem. Thoughts/comments are appreciated.

I wonder if it is related to location. I haven't had that issue at all (EVO 4G, EVO 3D, E4GT.) I would be ticked too if it was happening to me.

I don't know that it's just location specific. It seems to be happening across the board according to other complaints on Sprint Community
I know using Google voice has been known to cause this problem on every carrier. Don't know if that is the source of your problem though.

NYC has been experiencing issues, it's being worked on.
Outside of that, update your data profile any time you think you're having texting issues. That will solve the problem about 75% of the time.

Unfortunately wiping profile and PRL only works sometimes. I tried with and without Google Voice. It still happens. I end up checking if my messages are sent via Google Vice which uses wifi as opposed to data with Sprint, so messages are more likely to go through with GV.
Hi,
I have seen this issue in other forums with other devices, but I thought I'd mention it here.
My Girlfriend has an iPhone 4s. I have a Galaxy Nexus (GSM). When I send her a video MMS, she never receives it. Other users seem to be able to receive them fine. After doing some testing, it appears that she can receive them if I use GoSMS or Handcent from the Android Market, but it will never work with the stock app.
I'm assuming this is some kind of compatibility issue on the iPhone end? The stock SMS app encodes the video in some format the iPhone can't recognize? This is kind of an annoying issue. While I have found a workaround, I kind of like the stock SMS app on the Nexus and I just hate it when stuff doesn't work.
I'm gonna say an issue with the iPhone. I was at a party recently & about 6 of my friends (no iPhone) were complaining that my other friend (iPhone user) would answer them back super late or not at all. Turns out she wasn't getting their messages or getting them really late, or getting duplicates when she finally did receive them... (no issues between non-iphone users)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Okay, as an update, I don't think we can blame the iPhone. I just tried to send a video mms to a friend who has a MyTouch 4g running Cyanogenmod and he doesn't receive it either.
So, the messaging app is formatting videos in some way that isn't supported by other phones? Anyone else having this issue with the Galaxy Nexus?
Nope, I send my girl a MMS video when I was on 4.0.1 and it worked on her SGSII.

That's Samsung to Samsung. I'm not at all surprised it would work, even if it's some proprietary format that the phone is recording the video in for MMS messages.
ive sent MMS to my fiance and her thunderbolt no problem.
i remember hearing about that you had to change something in iOS so it would not use some apple application to send/receive texts/mms

You're probably thinking of iMessage. That is disabled on her phone. I don't know what else it could be. I even created a new MMS APN to test it and it's still not working in the stock app.
I have no issues sending mms to my girlfriends iphone 4s .
I did initially simply because I also had an iphone at one point and I message was getting confused . But once she turned that off ..sent me a pic and turned I message back on ..everything was good to go .
I have had no issues on any rom I have tried.

I can do pics just fine. It's video. If I click the attachment icon and select video and then "record video", she never receives it, nor does my co-worker running Cyanogenmod on his MyTouch 4G. It seems like it's a file format compatibility issue. Whatever format Handcent uses for the same function works fine, although the video is flipped when the iPhone receives it.
Mm that explains a lot I thought it was a att or sprint thing that you couldn't receive MMS from some android phones. It happened to my 4S when a friend send some pics but when I switch phones. They re send that pictures and it work... the sucks tho. My wife might not get my MMS sometimes then

Yeah, sorry about that. It was pretty disappointing to me, as well. The good news is that we can still send video mms if we use Handcent, ChompSMS, or GoSMS. And if it makes you feel better, Windows Phone 7 STILL can't send videos that way.
I'd still like to know what the problem is. I reported it to Samsung and got a generic "talk to AT&T" response. AT&T is NOT the problem here.
Actually ..I have a wp7 trophy ..the recent tango update brought mms with it thank god ... so we really do just suck . I HATE using 3rd party SMS apps .
I'm going to dig a little deeper and see if I can find a work around or maybe even a fix

Want to know what's ironic? My girlfriend received the videos I sent her several days ago at 2 am this morning, as well. I haven't changed anything on my phone. I wonder if AT&T did something to their system on the backend. I'm going to do some more testing?

Confirmed. Tested it this morning and she now receives them right away (though the video orientation is always flipped if I record it in portrait). Looks like AT&T did something and it's working from the stock app now.
Weird coincidence, huh? Maybe your update fixed AT&T's delivery system!

I think we're onto something with this. My bro sent me an email this morning, said all 11 of my real texts came through this morning, when he went to work (presumably after getting out of airrave range).
I wonder if this is going to be an ongoing issue -- it'll be quite annoying.

Yes quite so. I just unplugged it. It was working just fine without it until about 2 hours ago when I stopped getting texts even without it. I am beyond annoyed.
I don't have an airrave or airvana but when I am roaming while at work, I get the same text multiple times and even updating the prl and profile doesn't seem to help. Only happens when I am roaming though.
