I've found this topic curious. I really don't have much friends so I don't text a lot. I don't know if someone else is getting my messages or not. Just a random question, anyone?

lol. a bit odd to put that there but okay
I text maybe 5-20 txts a day, haven't had any issues whatsoever.
I believe the text bug is you're writing a text to one person and it goes to someone else in your contact list. So if you have people asking you about what you're sending, I think you should know if it was or wasn't intended for that person. Then you'd know if you have this bug.
There are specific conditions to make it do that though...and not everyone experiences it.

I have two issues with texts sometimes they send to a person I'm not typing to and sometimes when I open a text thread it'll open a different one.

Would having HTC Sense make a difference? I know HTC changes stuff so would HTC messaging app be different from AOSP messaging app? I haven't tried out an AOSP ROM, so im not too sure if they are the same app or if its different. So would the SMS bug affect HTC Sense devices?

Yeah thats the problem i have a couple times, I think it's mainly me trying to be super fast with everything and the phone not getting enough time to "register" exactly what I pressed.

Here's a quick question. I'll be 18 by the time the Incredible is exactly a year old. I'm on a family plan and I was thinking of getting my own seperate line. What do they need to get a contract?
i have an incredible and a droid 1 and i switch off between the two.
its never happened on the incredible, but once when i was on the droid i sent an explicit text and it accidentally went to a teacher (long story why she was in my call list) who was in my call list but not my contacts. it was not good for an 18 year old boy..
but thats the only time.
That's amazingly funny.

If you were already a customer they should just give you a new contract and account for yourself. They may check your credit, not 100% sure about that, but as long as you have had a few bills before that you have paid, you should be able to get your own account. That's what happened to me 8 years ago when I was 17. Things may have changed now.
In maybe four days my text messages have all deleted themselves basically instantly for no reason. This is starting to havve often enough where its a real problem.

Mine did this a lot. It can be very dangerous for some people and I've been in bad situations that almost put me in a paycheck garnishment position.
I would recommend deleting all your texts and keep a habit of deleting every message you send even if it's a reply.
I ran into this issue, maybe once. After that, I installed handcent and haven't had any issues since.

Anyone lately getting spam text messages? I've been getting some that tell me to go online or reply to subscribe. Without me doing anything, I immediately get another confirming my subscription. This is driving me nuts. I think it might be an app but I have not installed/bought anything new in a couple of days. The only coincidence is that it started when I flashed ginger snap. I'm not saying that it is causing it but i'm out of ideas.
Anyone else experiencing this?

its definitely coming from a app. more than likely a free music downloader or something like that. they are paying for that free stuff somehow...lol

It seems to get installed when you get a weird phone call. I already blocked unknown calls and a few likely suspects. Is there something more I can do. Like make it so only his contacts can call him?

where on phone did you see it? using root explorer or something? always thought was untraceable once installed..would be nice to know to look
Well best thing you can use is root call blocker, it works best but its paid app. Has that feature to just have calls from contacts. Also has reject too that works better than the built-in one..

might wanna tell "buddy" that if he got cases big enough for cops to tap his phones he might wanna switch to something other than his personal cell to conduct business or if it might just be wifey keeping tabs to make sure he aint banging the next new thing then he might wanna do the same because she can always order an in depth statement on calls and texts.... just saying
What? What's this about an app (or something) being installed from just receiving a phone call?
I'm no where near an expert or a dev but I never heard of anything like this. Unless the phone was already infected PRIOR receiving the 'weird' phone call.
Edit: OK.. I just Googled it, and sure enough it MUST be installed first. There are 2 versions, 1 - the LITE version can be installed on any android phone, but doest intercept live calls (and other things). 2 - the OMNI version requires a rooted phone, and you can intercept live phone calls and listen in.

Call your carrier, have them reset your line, describe them the situation and tell them you need everything reset on their end.

I have started seeing the same thing on my phone. I haven't had time to dig into it but I just flashed FreeGS3 last night and it started today. When I was full stock/rooted I never noticed a problem. It doesn't happen every time either. Are you on a custom rom? May not have anything to do with it, just a starting point for me.

Yes I am on a stock rom I haven't changed anything besides rooting the phone. My problem just started yesterday and hoping it get resolves really soon.
Has it been happening with every text you send, or is it kinda random? Mine seems to be random so far. Hopefully its a network issue on TMobiles side.
In case you don't know, in Messaging apps settings you can set it to request a delivery report for SMS and/or MMS. That way you can at least be sure if/when your texts go through. It will notify you when it is delivered.

No I live in Georgia, and its also fine in Georgia now
This is my first post so be easy with me please. I have been running CM11 snapshots on my T-Mobile galaxy sIII for a long while and so far so good. However as of last three months or so I have had some serious issues with sms. I'm not sure if it is a carrier/network issue or perhaps a cm issues maybe it's not even on my side but when I get text messages from one particular contact, who uses an iPhone, every couple of messages end with the world "null." Usually it's a long message and I only receive the first half and then it ends with "null." I have tried numerous different sms apps like hangouts and sliding cm messaging, but I typically prefer the stock sms app. I'm not sure what to do to fix it and I haven't found anybody else with this issue. It's really frustrating to have to ask this contact to resend messages multiple times just to get the jist of what they're saying. I hope there's a solution. I have flashed new snapshot of CM and I just recently updated the modem. Everything else works perfectly just this sms issue is bugging me.
PS. I've tried a clean install and the problem is still present. I had posted a screen shot over in the cm forums but because I am a noob to Xda I can't post external links yet.
Thanks for any help!*

Do they have alternative sms apps for the iphone? Ask your friend to try a few and see if that helps.
No alternative sms apps that I know of. My friend just uses the stock iPhone sms app.

I'm pretty sure its an Apple problem, and they refuse to address it because they know many will blame Android and hopefully switch to their iPhone. You should be able to find some articles on it with a google search.
I mean I'm sure that's a possibility. Whatever it is I hope it gets resolved soon. I've tried searching under multiple terms and I've only come across similar incidents like mine with blackberries from few years ago. So I haven't seen anything with an iPhone causing this kind of sms issue. Also thanks for all of your input.

This is what I was referring to, but it seems its not exactly the same as your problem.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/apple-holding-ios-users-hostage-with-imessage-flaw/
Still, ask your friend to turn off iMessage in their Settings and see if that helps.
I remember reading that entry about the iMessage bug. I owned an iPhone about four years ago, it was the 3g. It was before iMessage was created too. I don't think that's the problem but still I wouldn't rule it out. I'll make sure that my friend has iMessage turned off.

If you use it on anything it can cause problems. So if you have a mac or tablet and are using it there, make syre to sign out or disable it there as well.
Thanks for all the help. I lucked out and got an invite for the oneplus one. So I'm using that now and so far no problems at all. If I very get any invites to give away I'll check back with you to see if you want one. Thanks again.

The Damn bug is back again!! I finally found something about it on the T-Mobile forums. Apparently it's not an isolated problems. A lot of people have the same issue that I am having with a similar setup. So what it's boiling down to is that it is a t-mobile issue with how they handle sms over 160 characters. I'm not sure if this can be fixed by changing some values in the apn settings but I'm gonna see what I can find out.

I would not believe this, I've been using T-Mobile for many, many years and have never had this problem when sending or receiving long messages. I think its either their carrier or device
Well yeah I've been with Tmo for at least the past ten years. I've never had any bug like this. I'm gonna go ahead and day that's it's not a device problem. I've now experienced the issue with multiple devices. Also in different forum entries people have cited receiving the bug from multiple carriers with various iPhone and android devices. Furthermore it can't be a coincidence that the null bug popped up around the same time for many users. Sorry if I sound rude, I really don't mean to. I really appreciate the input and help.

No offense taken.. Usually when I receive texts from friends using other carriers that are long they are split and I receive them separately but no null at the end.. It still sounds carrier related to me tbh, no way so many phones would just start messing up sending or receiving long messages.. It's either one or the other.. Of course this is just my opinion.. After you have made sure you have correct APN, returned to stock firmware, made sure you are using stock SMS app to confirm same issue, there's really not much left to troubleshoot besides calling T-Mobile to reset your account, or for them to admit they are having issues
Yeah same here, usually when I receive long text messages they're split. I think you're right, it's carrier related. I've chatted with T-Mobile reps twice now and they basically blamed AT&T and took no responsibility. I've always used the stock sms app to avoid any issues and I verified that I apn I'm using is correct. So I guess all I can do is wait and hope it works itself out. Also what do you mean by reset my account?
Sent from my 1+One using XDA Premium
Actually, if it were your device or T-Mobile, it would be happening with more than just one of your contacts. I still believe the issue is on their end, not yours.
