Dust in camera enclosure ?? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just noticed that my dInc has started to collect a fair amount of dust in the camera enclosure ?
It's fairly surprising, as looking at it, it seems as though the enclosure itself is pretty solid ?
Anyone else experiencing this ?

I sometimes get a little bit in there. If you pull the back off and look around the base of the camera extremity, you'll find little holes. You can blow some compressed air into there to clear it out a bit. I've just blown into there with my mouth, but it fogs up the lens cover and might not be good for the image sensor :S.

how are the refurbs as compared to a new phone?

are the refurbs the old amoled screen or new ones? how are the new screens compared to the amoleds?

I read that they give you the screen of the phone you have right now. If you have an amoled now, verizon should give you an amoled back.

I just had a replacement shipped to me. If when you first bought the Incredible it was AMOLED, thats what you will get. If it was SLCD, thats what you will get.

HTC Desire - Dust spec! (Photo)

So I started noticing a pretty small dust spec on my new Desire, thought at first it might be a stuck pixel of sorts but on closer inspection (much closer!) it is definately some dust.
Below is two images shot of it through a microscope...

...would you replace your handset because of this? I've had it only one day, and you can see it with the naked eye if you know its there (albeit alot smaller! - about the size of a period/full stop)
You put your HTC Desire under a friggin microscope? My advice: Replace it if you really can't live with it, but you should realize that the dust spec is only about a 1/2 pixel in size...

Yes! The reason is that I wanted to check if it was indeed something above the screen or not. With the eye it looks to be a small square, right in the middle of the display. It is quite annoying to be honest, when the screen is one solid bright colour it is quite clearly there (like writing an sms), I constantly find myself trying to wipe it off like the other dust that gets attracted to it but it just stays!
I think I will get it replaced... it's just annoying that I've waited so long for it and now I have to send it back. Got to get the w910 back out the drawer! *sniff*
Have exactly the same problem, T-Mobile are going to do an exchange so no need to be without the phone. Just waiting for stock now.
what kind of camera did you take those photo with?
and this dust cannot be moved if you shaking the phone a little bit?

saquib, good to know I'm not the only one! I got mine from vodadone, will ring them up tomorrow hopefully they will do the same did they agree to replace straight away? And are they sending a replacement or letting you pick another one up from the store? Thanks
Edit: no shaking does nothing its sealed below the screen. In fact under the microscope you can see that it actually sits in a teeny tiny air pocket
I have nothing on the phone yet I have a dust spec on the camera.
I'm not sure weather to take it back or not, it doesn't seem to effect photos.
lol I got a spec of dust but never see it unless I look.

Dust under dEsire screen...

I notice a piece of lint under the glass on my desire. Not highly noticable, but still... I suppose its kind of impossible to make a screen thatsize and have it sealed with zero foreign objects undreneath? I read that this was a common problem with the nexus one. not sure if its common on Desire, or if the dust was there when I bought it, or got in in the last 3 days.
I wouldn't consider replacing it or anything, not over that. Maybe over a dead pixel, buit not some lint. anyone else notice anything under their glass?
yup got same, a tiny piece above the menu key, about 2 mil from the bottom edge of the screen. not enough for me to send it back though.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yeah I read quite a few threads on the matter. Theres a good chance you'd get the same in a replacement model so not worth it if its minor. Loving the phone though. some piece of kit
I didn't notice anything under the glass screen so far. I got mine on March 27th.

Well that's not true. I have had an HD2 for several months now and as we know it has an even bigger screen than the desire.
My point is that I have absolutely NO dust particles under my glass. I have looked and looked, under sunlight etc. NO dust. Why? Cus on the HD2, the LCD is glued to the glass/digitizer wich makes it impossible for dust to get in. On the Desire, I believe this is not the case wich means dust will eventually build up under there with time.

Alas you are right. I have more dust under my screen than I did when I got the phone 2 months ago. So... I guess it's not airtight. well, not that I expected it would be. maybe they could not glue the amoled screen to the digitiser/glass in the amoled screens. who knows.
solution
ive posted a reply about this on the phone restarting thread. essentially htc said that BOTH the dust and phone restarting are their problem so ive had the phone replaced within a week
This is a massive problem with the Topaz. Dust gets in by the top of the volume key. Thankfully it's only noticeable with the phone switched off, so it's not serious issue, just very prevalent.
HTC need to improve their sealing process between digitisers and their screens.
I had dust under the screen after 1 week on the left hand side. Pretty bad design fault from HTC if you ask me. On my old HTC Magic dust came in from the speaker grille and then fell down from the top of the screen.
Back on the desire though I got a case and screen protector from amazon and no more dust has appeared since then.

They offered to take it in for repair (as opposed to replacement). Ah well. I'll hold onto it as its minor. I heard of some guy on here sending it off for repair only to get it back with more dust in it than originally.
I think the best thing is to examine the unit on the first day of purchase with a fine tooth comb. If anything is wrong then send it back to clove or hantec or whoever for a direct swap replacement. Next time... When Desires future heir is born I will do that.

[Q]Is this Screen Tear on my Evo (nova 003)?

Over the past 3 days, I have observed some colored/broken lines on my Evo (pics attached). These have grown progressively in length. I dont recall dropping the phone. Any thoughts on the cause(s)? I know I'll have to unroot (and maybe reset PRI back to 1.40) before heading to the Sprint Store for a warranty replacement. Any thoughts from anyone who's had this?
Thanks in advance.
i thought screen tear was a software thing. try stock 2.2 -rooted of course. if the problem persists then id take it into sprint.
That's the Lcd starting to go out usually. It usually happens from very hard pressure on the trouble spot or dropping of the phone.

the smaller bunch of lines looks like a finger pad print
Screen tearing is an artifact in the display, kind of like pixelation - not a physical tear in the screen material. You, my friend, have an LCD that's going bad. LCDs are controlled by a matrix of horizontal and vertical pixels, and when the connectors get damaged, that's what you see.
Looks like someone smashed it with their finger too me. Almost looks like a finger print.
Same here..looks like someone smashed it with a finger.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I have never dropped my phone. On the other hand, that 'imprint' is actually underneath the anti-glare strip and is visible ONLY when the phone is on.
I just did a nand restore of rooted stock 2.2, the 'damaged' pixels still visible. I guess I'll try getting a replacement for a phone that's a month old.
By the way do they offer Evos with the 2.2 Froyo updates now?
This is totally unrelated but what Rom are you using in the photos dan?

Screen gap

I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there
should i go to my provider or directly cpntact htc? And just to understand it better. Gaps are not supposed to be there, am i right?

Dont replace it as you have no other problems. Go to HTC repair center and just fix it. If you replace there may be a chance of getting more faultier one.

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

Ive heard that the one x was made in 2 different countrys taiwan and china... china being the worst built ones buttt I must have a really faulty dhd. I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

well that is what worries me about the whole damn thing..if it gets to hot to soon and in two months down the line the screen actually does fall out
TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.

[Q] Does your device creak?

Mine creaks a little in the bottom right corner. Everything else is fine. I think it's the plastic back giving a bit. I had this on the Nexus 10 as well.

Yes, When I held the tablet with my left hand to touch the screen with my right it creaked like a rock band with bad music! Geeish.....the silver chrome or whatever the material is wasn't tight and it just bend. I returned it right away. I really didn't want to return it. However, I paid full price and not second hand money so I expect the performance to be right, that means no noise. When listening to music or watching a movie it seems as if someone was moving around and that can be pretty annoying. I tried holding it different ways with no change. So back it went. Let Samsung sell. This I know imagine you trying to sell it to the next person, what do you think they might say and how much will the value go down?

Yes, As soon as I opened the package, I noticed the bottom right hand corner was creaking an popping. It is not like I was looking for it. That made me investigate if the rest of the trim was doing the same. If you put your mind into into it, you can get some creaking from other ends of the trim but nothing like the bottom right hand corner. Every time I pick it up, it is annoying me so much that I feel I should take it back. I am not sure the guys at PCWorld would accept this as a reason for full money back or replacement claim. I do like the tablet, but do not want a noisy plastic in my hands.
Is this enough of a reason to ask for a replacement?

Sadly I dont think it is (pure guess so dont take my word for it) BUT I can 100% say that your Tablet will have a little bit of lightbleed along the bottom and sides....this alone is a good enough reason for them to accept and exchange - Good luck.

Put screen britghness to 100% and open this http://www.net-tracker.net/android/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/black_bg_1024x768.png, make sure it covers the entire screen inc notifications part and then switch off your lights in your room and you will then see light bleed, Its nothing major and common on LCD'S but it is a valid reason for a return/exchange.
I had lightbleeding on my first note but I found it to be acceptable however on my 2nd tablet I found the bleeding to be excessive and off putting so I got a refund from John Lewis,

If your one is not creaking then this definitely should be a rightful exchange claim for all those unfortunate to pick up badly put together tablets.
I am even considering getting my money back and going the Apple way. Excellent build quality, and I know that because I got some for the kids.
yeah maybe idk. Sammy is also known for build issues lately so you have to really inspect before you take home. The Note 3 home button is all wonky and wobbly on a lot of units.

Sorry for the question, but what is "idk" in your post?
Having a creaking case, would that get worse in terms of speading all around the tablet's trim?
Any experiences but no guesses please!

"IDK" means "I Dont Know".
I guess if the creaking was coming from say a loose glass to the digitizer i think it could be something that spreads. Since if the glass isn't glued down well enough i could see slight dust getting in there and causing more separation over time. I doubt this is the case as you'd see bubbling at the edges if that was happening.
