Issues with my Incredible (possible hboot upgrade needed?) - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just spent the last two months in the hospital so please help me if you can...
Ive noticed for a long time that I havent been able to access GPS navigation with any Rom other then stock for the last year. Every once in a while I will load a rom and immediatly get massive amounts of FC's. Ive fixed permissions within recovery and manually had to clear dalvik/cache/battery stats to get certain roms to work and sometimes this doesnt help.
Yesterday after unsucessfully flashing CM7 RC1 for the 3rd time I went into my hboot and saw that I had .77 (i thought I had v.92). I also noticed that I had radio v1.00.03.04.06. Is this the correct radio?
So my question(s) is this:
1) If I upgrade my hboot to .92 (btw I am already unrevoked forever) will It be like clearing all my data/etc?
2) will this fix my GPS?
3) after I flash the .92hboot (pb31img.zip im assuming?) will it also include the correct radio?
4) the process to flash the radio is to do it manually in recovery NOT go into Rom Manager correct?

GPS fail cause your radio is old and for CM7 you need the .92 hboot for the bigger boot partition. I have both on my site and you would flash both through hboot and not recovery. Have only one on your SD card at a time or you can waiit till I get home or someone else who is nice and package on up that contains both. Very simple to do.

That would be much appreciated Doug.
will flashing these cause s-off to...umm turn on?

Flashing a radio or HBOOT does not make you S-ON. Be sure to make sure your MD5 sum matches what the provided MD5 sum says.

This has been helpful as I've had GPS inaccuracy issues on Warm TwoPointTwo and Incredibly Re-engineered. Can I check the Hboot version and radio version without going into Hboot? Wouldn't mind troubleshooting while waiting for a call but with my luck, I'll be in deep and miss the call.

HBOOT you have to boot into it to check. You can check your radio version by going to settings, about phone, software information. There is should be under "baseband version".

1. No, it will only update your HBOOT and you shouldn't lose anything. (provided the HBOOT file is valid)
2. HBOOT upgrading, probably not, but updating the radio should definitely help.
3. Radio & HBOOT updating are separate I believe, unless you are updating from an RUU.
4. Yes that is correct
Here are the radio's, make sure to update to either the 07.28 or the 09.01.

Flashing Radio

Hi,
I noticed some radio issues with my stock radio firmware.
Now I want to keep at my stock Rom (1.39), but I want to update to 12.28e.x-version, but this one came with 1.72/1.75 update.
Can I just flash 12.28e-radio on my stock (1.39) rom or or do I need to update my rom to 1.72/1.75 before the new radio will work properly?
My phone has already been rooted & S-off'ed, but not sure if radio is linked with the rom version.
I hope someone can help me
Don't flash yet, someone will so for sure but I'm fairly sure you can't flash a radio that's not for your ROM version. Better to wait for now then to brick.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Ok, thanks for your warning/help
It is ok to flash any radio you want, radio and ROM are not directly linked. ROM just tells radio to do stuff, and radio does it in it's own way. So you are good to go
You will definitely not end up with a brick, just make sure that you have ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF.
Ok, Not sure what to do now xD
But to check my ENG S-OFF & Radio S-OFF, I need to go into Recovery Mode, right?
Which is Pressing Volume DOwn & Power button, right?
Do I need to shut down my whole system or just "hibernate" (normal Shut down)?
EDIT: Ok, i've checked the status, it's says something about "HTC ACE S-OFF".
Although i'm not sure if it's RADIO S-OFF or ENG S-OFF.
I've followed your (jkoljo) Root & S-Off guide ;-)
"Checking device state" in this post might help
Ok, thanks mate Haven't seen that thread good enough :-/ Shame on me :-(

Downgrade of Radio impossible

As the Radio 32.54.00.32U... is causing many trouble, like dropped calls, no wifi etc. with my RCMixHD 3.0 ROM, i am trying to downgrade the radio to 32.49.00.32U, which seems to cause less trouble. But everytime I start the process I end up having the same Rom, probably due to a downgrade protection.
What can I do to get rid of 32.54??
Thank you very much!
Hi,
I was having the same problems. I was given this advice:
1) Full wipe
2) Re-install rom
3) Downgrade Radio to Rom's recommended.
Worked for me I'm using .44 (can't remember all of the numbers)
Thanks for your answer
I would really like to downgrade the radio, but I don't know how, as every time I do it (using Android Flasher on my s-off desire) and check the version after the restart in settings/software, I see that it is still 32.54....
1. You don't need to wipe when flashing a radio
2. Get the radio you wish to use here and flash it like you would a new ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
This time I tried to do it in Amon RA Recovery, as it didn't work with clockwork.. and it worked...
Thanks for your help!

Evo Unable to downgrade Radio Baseband

Spring Evo 4g
HBOOT: 2.10.0001
Model: PC36100
Hardware:0003
Android:2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.17
Baseband:2.15.00.11.19
Software3.70.651.1
PRI:1.90_003
Rooted with Unrevoked.
After upgrade Baseband, I got very bad signal and want to roll it back.
1. Tried to use cm recovery 2.6 to install zip file containing radio image to 2.05.00.06.10, not sucessful. However, every time it turn to 2.15.00.11.19 after reboot. I fell 6 vibrations during flash, do not know why.
2. Tried to use fastboot flash radio image, but I got "remote not allowed" message!
Could any body help out?
Thanks.

2.10.0001 radio is non-downgradeable on new hardware models.
Your phone has the new block size that is not compatible with the old radios and the remote not allowed error is because you are not using the eng hboot. Unfortunately it is not compatible as is either.
You can force it to downgrade and I believe I found a way to make it work with the new block sizes, but it's never been tested.
Ill test it. Got an extra new block size

If it doesn't work though you're pretty much guaranteed to be bricked. But if it's a phone you're not worried about I've been dying to find out if this will actually work.
Yes i will sacrafice. Gettin a nexus s 4g anyways...seriously will test tho

Right on, all you need to do is downgrade to the eng hboot from the hboot and before rebooting or doing anything set 'fastboot -n 4096'
That *should* let you use the eng hboot. You still won't be unable to downgrade your radio though, although afterward it may let you flash the old radios without so much as a warning.
Ok will do. Hboot usb or fastboot usb?
Tryed this but i still get six short vibrates when flashing the radio

fastboot USB, as I previously said you will probably never be able to downgrade the radio. Sorry but that's just how it is.
Are you able to at least use your phone with the .76 hboot?
its weird.. there should be a way!!

Instead of downgrading so far back, have you tried downgrading the baseband from 2.15.00.11.19 to 2.15.00.09.01? If not, give it a try. You can download it and all of the other EVO radios from the link below:

UPDATE: Disregard. The original post was dated April 8th.

If i wanted to go back and try Android 2.1 roms, do i have to downgrade the radios as well?
Trying not to make a new thread but....say if I am using a 2.2 Rom with the 2.15.00.11.09 radio and I want to flash to a 2.1 rom(I'm talking bout far back as the rooted shipped stock ROM from last June. Would I need to downgrade my radio? And does that stock ROM already come prepackaged with a kernel. I'm pretty sure the kernel needs to be downgraded for it to be compatible. When I got my EVO in Sept, I was already on 2.2. Never tried 2.1 but have always been curious to try it and see how much worse it is. Then I could say I've finally tried all three versions of Android on my phone and how far we have progressed
As you've stated, the problem would not necessarily be the rom itself not working with the new radios, but whether or not the default kernel would work properly. Give it a shot. The worst that *should* happen is bootlooping. At that point, you can either reboot into recovery and flash a different kernel or downgrade the radio, PRI and NV. Of course, this is my opinion. You can download the rom from here . By the way, according to the descriptions on the shipped roms, the radios appear to be included.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
just read that i can't downgrade my radio because i'm running the 2.10 HBOOT and on HW003. but if downgrading the radio is not necessarily important to run a rooted 2.1 rom then i don't have much to worry about do i? also, those links you posted: i can flash those RUU's in recovery like i would any other rom? i don't want to go back to stock and be unrooted.
i was thinking of running the 1.32.651.1 rooted rom from Flipzmode, and if need to - download the appropirate kernel link next to it on the detailed ROM wiki thread maintained by Toast.
You cannot downgrade your HBOOT from 2.10 (not necessarily accurate) without a risk of problems, however, you can downgrade the baseband, PRI and NV. I've done it several times. I've downgrade from baseband 11.19 to 09.01. As well as upgrade to 04.08. I've also downgraded my PRI from 1.90 to 1.77 all while having HBOOT 2.10.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
i've downgraded my PRI because of the wakelock issues.
so you can downgrade the baseband to a certain extent? only within the 2.15 radios? but you cant downgrade to the radios that were on Eclair? if i can run 2.1 roms on 2.15 radios then by all means i'm going to try it out. thanks for the info doug

[Q] Another question about hboot

Is there any reason why somebody WOULD NOT want the latest hboot version?
For example, the latest version (according to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485) is 2.16.0001. Yet I still see some members on here using 2.15.0001 and 2.10.0001. Is that because they just haven't gotten around to flashing the updated version? Are there are negative effects to having the latest hboot version? On that same website, it says some of the later versions are "not downgradeable". So why would you want to downgrade?
Also, in searching through threads, I think I've kinda picked up on a problem between certain hboot versions and certain Radio versions, that some versions are not compatible with each other. Is there any problem?
Thanks for the help!
Basic summary of questions:
1. Is it good to have the latest version of hboot?
2. Are there any negative effects to having X version of HBOOT versus Y version of HBOOT?
3. Would there ever be a point to downgrading your hboot, besides taking it back to the store?
4. Does X version of HBOOT conflict with Y version of RADIO?

1. It is what it is, is just tells you what stock firmware you had; no hboot is better; though you could argue the .76 cuz of fastboot, though you can use fastboot regardless
2. Yes and no, just before 2.10, they can no longer be downgraded; the .76 also allows fastboot commands
3. You would only 'downgrade' really if you had to use evolutionary to go from 6.16 > 2.16 , and that is done for you in the unrooting process
4. No, the hboot won't conflict with your radio
Thanks man, appreciate it.

No problem man.
2. The only negative effect of having a hboot above 2.10 is you cannot run unrevoked forever which means that any future ota cannot s-on your phone if you have flashed unrevoked forever. Also dont go getting any ideas of downgrading your hboot unless it is for unrooting like roxxorz said cuz you will most likely brick your phone

so if i dont plan on using any OTA's from sprint, i can just flash 2.16.0001 hboot and just run rooted roms correct? And then if I run the stock RUU to unroot back to complete stock, would that change the hboot?

[Q] Dinc2 reboots on lockscreen after s-off

I have a fairly strange problem. My wife got tired of the Verizon bloatware on her Dinc2 so I offered to root and flash it to a nice rom. Her only requirements were that it work both as a phone and as a camera. After an uneventful downgrade, s-off, root and CWM, we tried aeroevan's unofficial CM9. We found that the camcorder was broken. Next we tried the MikRoms Incredible 2 HD Rls1. This worked beautifully in every respect except one: when I rebooted the phone, it went into a loop. The phone would boot to the opening lock screen.. in some cases I could even unlock it.. and then either turn off or reboot (which one seemed random). After getting back into the bootloader, I tried all the obvious things:
Wiping all partitions
Reloading the ROM
Trying a different ROM
Flashing back to a Stock ROM + root
Flashing back to stock 2.3.3.
In every case, the phone works perfectly with the new ROM up until it is rebooted, after which it goes into a loop at the lockscreen. The only ROM that DOES work is aeroevan's unofficial CM9. It reboots without any issues, but of course the camcorder and camera flash are busted there. At least it's usable as a phone again.
I've looked and looked, and either my google-fu is failing me utterly or this is a fairly unusual problem. Does anyone have the faintest idea what's going on here and how I can work at fixing it?
This is a well known issue with 605.05 software phones (and several other threads already about this). There is a PSA in Development warning this issue exists. Only guaranteed ROMs without issue are AOSP ROMs. If you want working camera, flash CM7.
I have also heard that flashing the radio packaged with the latest software may fix the issue, you can give that a try. You could also try flashing Condemned Soul's 6.xx ROM in development section.

Perhaps you can help me sort out an issue. I tried rooting and getting S-Off by using the tacoroot, and flashing a new radio method. I got to the radio part, and got the radio onto the root of the sdcard as per the instructions. The phone boots into fastboot, and it checks the radio file, but it says incorrect file a few times, and then returns to the fast boot menu. I didn't know if it worked, or not so i tried to reboot the phone normally but at the lock screen it reboots.
I tried pushing the radio file using adb but it doesnt seem to want to connect to the phone anymore.
I followed these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
After going through some fastboot options I flashed the recovery from fastboot and it booted up and stayed booted, i'm assuming i have to start over, which I don't care about, I just need some advice about what is up with the radio not wanting to flash.

Check the md5sum, might be a bad download. You won't need to start over if you're S-OFF already, you can always flash an AOSP ROM to get it working and go from there.

I don't know how to check the md5 without adb. Can I do that without communication to the phone.
How can I determine if I'm S-OFF, or flash a rom? For that matter, how do i start over if i need to.

You can check the md5sum from the phone, just use terminal emulator (might need busybox installed). To check if you are S-OFF, boot into the bootloader and it should say S-OFF.
