I just purchased a HTC DESIRE HD from Telus. All attempts to root the device have failed even with the Visionary tool. I noticed that it has a fairly new HBOOT 0.85. I'm wondering if this has new security that prevents the device from being rooted. Has anyone had any luck?
Thanks
Did you make a gold card? if so, retry again and on a different micro sd card.
also make sure you do a full format on the memory card, not a quick one.
make sure your phone is in disk mode when making the gold card.
which guide are you following?
Visionary
I'm following the guide here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
The temp root does not work it starts and then screen just stays black. There's no mention of a gold card in this one...can you recommend a better guide to follow?
Thanks
Here is the thread for Telus Desire HD

Ive done my spoon feeding for the day
I can confirm it works
I have a telus Desire HD HBOOT-0.85.2007, rooted, s-off, simunlocked that I've owned for exactly one week. It took me way longer then the estimated time and I ran into a ton of issues. I ending up spending countless hours reading threads till my eyes felt like they were bleeding. In the end though I'm fully rooted and learning more daily. XDA's forums are very extensive its all about finding good ways to sift through them (god bless the search tool). Hopefully through a couple more months of extensive reading/experimenting I'll be able to remove my noob crown.

I had to do it the long way, and could not skip the part he tagged as redundant. Also when I was done all worked great but I ended up with a better signal by flashing the TELUS radio found on this site.
Im new at this, so forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question..but is this really what you have to do to unlock the sim card?
Because thats I'll i really want to do. Is there another guide just for that? or pretty much you have to turn off the S-radio and follow the long and hard way?
Please follow the post i made above. Take your time and go slow. One step at a time.

In a word, Yes.
Another word or two , it is highly recommended you [should] do a FULL-WIPE, if installing a diffident Rom from the one you are using.

Hi,
I've been doing some research on how to successfully flash my phone and put a custom rom on it. I have a Desire HD running 2.2. This is shown in the bootloader:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0007
Radio-26.03.02.26_M
And from About Phone, I got this:
Software number 1.37.771.3
Now from what I've learnt, I need to downgrade to a earlier version of the software, to 1.32. I looked online, and found that some people said if you used a specific way to turn security off, then certain things won't work.
On looking at some of the threads, some linked to this to turn it off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
However, is this the best way to do it. I was going to use this webpage:
http://igyaan.in/2011/01/how-to-root-htc-desire-hd-included-downgrade-from-1-72-405-3-to-1-32/
However, when looking oat the CyanogenMod wiki page for the HTC Desire HD (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting), they was advising you not to use Visionary (Which the other guide does advise) and use BusyBox, Superuser and Temporary Root.
So, could someone please help. As I'm getting different advise all over.
Thanks
Use the guides here in XDA. You will get the best support. Places like igyaan.in just copy our guides. So your first step is that radio s-off tool.

Thanks. On the tool, it says it needs:
It will not work on 1.72.405.3 or higher build, or new radio (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M is ok). Downgrade first!!
So as my software number is 1.37.771.3, should that work? My baseband version however is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M, which while it says is ok, my baseband version has the letter U just after 140e, so what do I do.
Sorry if this has been answered multiple times before.
Of course it is ok, 1.37 is not 1.72 or higher than it. Use some logic, mate
What about the baseband version though? I understand it's nearly the same version, but as it has another letter in the version name, I thought I'd ask before I go ahead or not.
baseband is completely independent from the Rom. There are only those that go "well" toghether and some that dont. But its different for everyone... so. Yeah, most rom cookers give you a recommendation on RadioRom (=Baseband). I'd go with that first. But you can do the Baseband changing stuff later.
That baseband is ok for the tool.

Hi, I tried using your tool. However on Visionary, I tried to temproot, then it restarted the HTC Sense launcher, then I relaunched Visionary and tried to attempt permroot, but it said I had to have a temproot first.
Any help? Thanks
Try temprooting again. It might take a few tries.

Hello,
This afternoon I made what feels like a monumental mistake on my flashed and rooted DHD. I was running CM 7.0.2, as I have been since it was released at some point last week, when it started to reboot by itself... Being impatient I did a hard reset and then pressed the volume up button, starting some kind of update, which I can only assume was a bad idea. Since this update I have lost almost everything and my phone is S-ON again!
I rooted and flashed my DHD using one of the tutorials on this board which worked fine. I downgraded from 1.72 to 1.32, used Visionary+ to give permanent root access, turned S-OFF and then used ROM Manager to install CM7.
Now I am finding it difficult to get back to CM 7.0.2. I can give myself permanent root using Visionary+ but cannot seem to turn S-OFF.
I used this link to download the H-BOOT files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835746
I load the unzipped files to the root of my SD card and type: sh /sdcard/DHD/check
in Terminal Emulator and now when I press enter no MD5 appears and the error message after Testing Kernel Module does not match.
I have tried a factory reset which does nothing, I have tried downloading different versions of the DHD H-BOOT files from across the web but I get the same problem and when I look under my software the build number is 1.32.405.6 CL278359 release-keys.
Any advice on getting CM7 back would be appreciated!
It could have been worse and I could have bricked my phone but the tutorials on doing this were excellent so I saw no real risk... but CM7 rocks and I need it back!
My first thought is that you still had the PD98IMG.zip on your sdcard, and you somehow managed to flash that which will remove the s-off?
Are you able to boot up at all, or just Bootloader? Edit: No sleep here, read you post properly and you say can boot into cm7.
What does Bootloader / System Info : CID ?
Try this all-in-one tool: [DEV APP] Updated! AMT v1.2 - ROOT, S-OFF, Flash Radio, Recovery, Boot
Setting: Default, Permroot > "commit changes" ENG S-off if you require to flash a recommened radio later.
Download here, extract, & just follow the instructions exactly. ENG HBOOT image is included.
That is correct, I do still have PD98IMG.zip on my sdcard.
I can boot up fine also.
System info is showing
Android Version 2.2,
Kernel version 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d [email protected] #1,
Build number 1.32.405.6 CL278359 release-keys,
Software number 1.32.405.6.
Bootloader is showing:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON,
HBOOT- 0.85.0007
I found my CID through Terminal Emulator it is: HTC_001
If that sdcard is your Goldcard, either copy the whole contents to pc (in a safe place) so it's clean, or FULL format fat32 new one and insert before boot.
Most of the guides will tell you to remove the PD98IMG.zip, although maybe in fine print.
Yep, Permroot & S-off is gone as you don't have CID-11111111 & S-off.
If you decide to ENG S-off as well, HBOOT will only show ENG S-off not both. You will have S-off, although it doesn't say.
The tool should work, just give it a go (no need for visionary). Read the Dev's thread & follow instructions exactly step by step. After that, should be done in minutes.
Afterthat, power off. Boot into Bootloader (HBOOT). HOLD vol down and press power on once. You should have -Off or ENG S-off. Check System Info in HBOOT menu for CID-11111111

I have been reading up on rooting my DHD and to be honest i dont know if its possible, if it can what rom do i use and what tools..

HTC sense version 2.1

Any help & advise would be great.

It is possible. Everything you need is in my signature
So downgrade first, then do Radio S-OFF and optionally ENG S-OFF. Then follow the instructions in Radio S-OFF thread (first post) to flash ClockworkMod and finally a ROM.
ENG S-OFF can be done later, too, so you do not really need to worry about it at this point.
I would recommend Android Revolution HD because it is the most popular ROM for Desire HD.
Thank you very much for the quick response ill get to doing it now
After downgrading you can use this guide (Its by the previous gentlemen as well)

I also recommend Android Revolution HD
Just to confirm I downgraded and rooted yesterday using these guides. Was simple and a brilliant help couldn't have done it without them.

Nope I don't think its possible due to having to place the downgrade zip file on the SD card, and then there is the fact that if its branded you will have to make a goldcard.
Yes I am new to this myself so I apologize if i am wrong but just wanted to try and help you out.

Also think its not possible, after all if there was a way it would be in the guide (a safe way at least). You should wait for your card to arrive and maybe try and get a second card in case you need to make a gold card.
So around 2 weeks ago I was using my G2 at a McDonald's and all of a sudden it turned off . . . Long Story short, it's stuck on the HTC screen. I can access Bootloader but doing recovery or factory reset does not do anything. I cannot access adb but I can use fastboot
