Solution....use a pc
PokeAsheep said:
Have stock epic just updated to eb13 and was rooted with z4root. (As I hav no pc). I now want to unroot as I have to take my phone in to the store. Is there a method to unroot without a pc? I tried z4root and it fc's or the phone vibes a few times and shuts off... still semi-rooted though
(I say semi because titanium backup doesn't recognise me as rooted, but rootcheck does, and wifi tether woks)
I searched around a bit but have yet to find a pc-free way to fix.
Thanks for help

Hmm, maybe someone can make a stock official froyo flashable zip in clockwork, to get rid of it...
Question does z4root not unroot for you?

It did when I was on 2.1, but now that I am on 2.2, and try to unroot the phone just vibes at me when z4 tries to unroot, or fc's mid-unroot.
Note: also edited op to be a bit more clear....

I don't know man.. you could use a public computer or friends computer to unroot or Odin..
As of now I don't think u can do it without a PC or a flashable zip..

can you delete superuser.apk and su? You may have to use adb to do it. That should effectively unroot you.
hard reset?
Hmm, might just get a friend to let me use his PC to unroot, and then go to sprint store and then re-root...

Theres a thread about how to return your phone to stock with odin, also check the wiki. Your best bet is to flash through odin to di18, our dg27, either works...

View attachment update.zip
seems very small to revert me back to stock.
update..didn't work..thanks anyways.....i can't believe there isn't an update.zip for returning to stock without root........found like 100 evo stocks ones......frustrated..
This Tread may be your savior...Good luck

Oh also you might need to change the the file name to update in order to flash it in the stock recovery.
I did this when I first went to FROYO ( forgot who's post I got it from) If you have the factory ROM just rename name it... update.zip and try that, it worth a shot

i gave him that link earlier
he doesnt have clockwork installed
Easy fix man, break a battery pin off so the phone doesn't power on, and take it back saying it just died. They won't be able to boot it to check the rom at that time and should in store replace it with a refurb. I have done this once, when they didn't want to replace mine for screen wobble.

You could also intentionally flash a file that shouldn't have be flashed, to stick the phone at the boot logo.
Without being able to boot, they cannot reveal what rom is 'running'

Just get a 12-24VAC power brick, like one used on a sprinkler timer. Drag the 2 bare leads from the output around the contacts on the back of the phone for battery, sdcard, antennas, etc... It'll roast the **** out of everything inside of the phone. They'll never know what ROM was on it after that.
Ok, so Ive searched through the thousands of pages that just seem to contradict each other so I'll try and ask it here. What's the easiest way to go from a stock (rooted) DG17 Epic to a stock rooted DI18?

How can I odin back to a level that's higher than I am now? DG17 is the original release of the Epic isn't it?

Is there not an Update.zip out there to do this?
Never mind, Odin it was... Now running stock (rooted) DI18. Baby steps, now to find a good 2.2 rom.

There were update.zips somewhere to do DG17->DG27->DI07->DI18, but they seem to have been buried due to lack of use. Odin is easy enough, though.
Is there a quick way to remove a root with a Mac?
I'm on DI18 and want to get the OTA update...
Well i suggest ODIN but if you have no way of getting near a windows comp. just try heimdall. its odin for mac but ive never really figured out how to use it :/
edit: oh and theres a thread here that i used to root my phone on a mac..the script has an unroot feature you can use but you would still need DI18.

Iff u are on di18 u should still get the ota as long as u are stock and u havent removed any system apps u should still get it but it will remove root. If u are useing a rom then u might have to find a windows computerand odin back to stock. I my self have a mac and i could never get heimdall to work so I always have to go to my mother in laws house and use her laptop lol

I'm on DI18. How do I use that script to unroot?
Follow the link and download the package. Make sure it downloads to your downloads folder..if u scroll down in that thread you will see 3 lines you can copy paste into terminal on your computer and turn usb debuggging on your phone. The script should run after the 3rd line of code and I think option 5 is unroot. But if you've deleted any /system apps you will need to odin/heimdall. I just got it working yesterday...
So I have an epic, with stock rom, rooted. I do have (rom manager) cwm, but am not suuper familiar with android and its jargon (am a winmob convert). After some searching I see that because I have cwm I won't get ota. Fine, let's get stock recovery...wait... uh. Yeah. I don't have a pc, nor do I have a library card :0
I rooted using z4root, and so didn't need a pc. Now I just want to get the OTA but can't quite figure out how to do that without a PC.
Note, the xda-app search feature is rough around the edges, and I did find data with just plain scrolling, but nothing on a PC-free way to get back to stock recovery mode...
Help?
Thanks

If all you did was root using z4root and changed nothing else, you will be able to get the OTA.
If you have removed any stock apps, restore them.
You should be fine

No. You will "get" the update, but it will fail verification when you try to install. Get the deodexed di18->eb13 update that is in the wiki and flash it from clockwork.

This was not my understanding from past updates. I apologize for the incorrect info there.
That is a much faster way anyway
I'm not rooted, but shootme used to work. I just tried using it for the first time since eb13 update, and it won't work for me anymore. Any ideas why? Also I remember that in DK28 there was the ability to take a screenshot by the back+home key combo, does that stillwork in eb13?

I had that same issue. I had to uninstall and then reinstall shootme to get it to work again.
