Shootme no longer working for me - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not rooted, but shootme used to work. I just tried using it for the first time since eb13 update, and it won't work for me anymore. Any ideas why? Also I remember that in DK28 there was the ability to take a screenshot by the back+home key combo, does that stillwork in eb13?

I had that same issue. I had to uninstall and then reinstall shootme to get it to work again.

[Help] Problems and no pc.

So I have an epic, with stock rom, rooted. I do have (rom manager) cwm, but am not suuper familiar with android and its jargon (am a winmob convert). After some searching I see that because I have cwm I won't get ota. Fine, let's get stock recovery...wait... uh. Yeah. I don't have a pc, nor do I have a library card :0
I rooted using z4root, and so didn't need a pc. Now I just want to get the OTA but can't quite figure out how to do that without a PC.
Note, the xda-app search feature is rough around the edges, and I did find data with just plain scrolling, but nothing on a PC-free way to get back to stock recovery mode...
Help?
Thanks

If all you did was root using z4root and changed nothing else, you will be able to get the OTA.
If you have removed any stock apps, restore them.
You should be fine

No. You will "get" the update, but it will fail verification when you try to install. Get the deodexed di18->eb13 update that is in the wiki and flash it from clockwork.

This was not my understanding from past updates. I apologize for the incorrect info there.
That is a much faster way anyway

Have stock epic just updated to eb13 and was rooted with z4root. (As I hav no pc). I now want to unroot as I have to take my phone in to the store. Is there a method to unroot without a pc? I tried z4root and it fc's or the phone vibes a few times and shuts off... still semi-rooted though
(I say semi because titanium backup doesn't recognise me as rooted, but rootcheck does, and wifi tether woks)
I searched around a bit but have yet to find a pc-free way to fix.

Hmm, maybe someone can make a stock official froyo flashable zip in clockwork, to get rid of it...
Question does z4root not unroot for you?

It did when I was on 2.1, but now that I am on 2.2, and try to unroot the phone just vibes at me when z4 tries to unroot, or fc's mid-unroot.
Note: also edited op to be a bit more clear....

I don't know man.. you could use a public computer or friends computer to unroot or Odin..
As of now I don't think u can do it without a PC or a flashable zip..
Sent from My Eb13 Modem, With old bonsai epic 4g.
can you delete superuser.apk and su? You may have to use adb to do it. That should effectively unroot you.
hard reset?
Hmm, might just get a friend to let me use his PC to unroot, and then go to sprint store and then re-root...

Root EC05 without ext4?

Hi, all. Does anyone know if the one-click root version 2.X (not 3.X) works on EC05? I'm not interested in ext4, but I'd like to root and have access to Titanium Backup, etc. This worked with the last Froyo OTA.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, im on EC05 and rooted.

And a second for yes.
2.5.5 ran just fine.
I just got the ec05 ota update and so far NOTHING has worked to root it. I mainly want to kill sprints hillbilly add on package and gain contol of apps I want but don't want to run24x7x365 like facebook and craigslist. Super one click and z4 are both broken for me. They hang and never finish. After waiting for a couple of hours I pull the battery and reboot.
Ithink my next step is to try flashing one of the pre rooted roms to see if that works.
yes both one click root works just fine.
Worked like a charm. I got my phone w/EB13, just ODIN'd back to DI18 and by the time it finished booting and loading up I was already downloading EC05, lol.
THANKS!

Suprised to hear the SuperOneClick didn't work. It worked fne for me on the 1st attempt.
ETA: Make sure, in the upper-right-hand corner of the SuperOneClick control panel, that you select the "rageagainstthecage" exploit method.

Unrooting?
Has anyone tried unrooting? with the one click unroot?
I get failed to rm on a bunch of stuff.. then when I manually reboot I still have super user installed and CWM 2.5.5 but no permissions or root access. 3 Times I have tried this on stock EC05. Is there an updated unroot for EC05?

No, you haven't. You still can though, and I would suggest that. They are great vids and easy to follow along to. You can pause, stop, even rewind them to keep up

You might wanna try to flash eb13 and after you use odin to flash to eb13, connect to wifi and manually update your software via ota to ec05. Go to settings and click about phone then system updates and select update android. This should get you back on ec05. I had the same problem when i wanted to go back to ec05. But i gotta say the second time i flashed ef02 all my functions that didnt work previously now work flawlessly. Although i did redownload the ef02 file again so maybe my original one was a bad download...Good luck to you...Dont forget to update us....

still didnt work...and idk if its just my epic but every rom ive tried the battery is off really bad...it would take me a half an hour just to go up 3%...also i backed up my stock 2.2.1 tw and i tried restoring it but it wouldnt restore through clockwork(i have the purple cwm)it would just stay on the samsung bootloader and vibrate constantly. I would have to use another rom just to fix it...i just want to restore it back to stock with root but i have yet to sucessfully achieve that....would appreciate that i looked at the videos but none showed how to restore back to stock

El30 update on ei22 cleangb?

Hello once again! I am currently on the CleanGB rom rooted with cwm, ei22 and I keep getting a popup asking me to upgrade to EL30.... from what I've been reading its a little sketchy...
Anyways, my questions are:
If I were to upgrade, would I have to go back to stock ec05 and upgrade to ei22 then el30, then root and install cwm again? (And what are the pros/cons)
And if I wanted to hide this update message permanently how would I do that?

If you mean the EL30 maintenance update it is some minor fixes and a few touchwiz changes. I would just kill the update notice and wait a few days for CleanGB to be on EL30 unless you like stock.

The biggest thing EL30 does is gets rid of the battery sucking spyware CIQ!
I have cleanGB and am allowing the EL30 update to fail so it will leave me alone.
When it fails, does it just hang with the exclamation point in the triangle with the droid guy? Or does it actually tell me it failed?

He was already on a custom ROM, which means it had K0nane's CIQ removal done to it.

It says it failed for a second then hangs at the exclamation point. just pull the battery and put it back in and reboot.

This happened to my wife's epic this morning. She tried to install the update on her rooted epic (no custom ROM) and it gave her a "failed" notice and froze for about an hour. She didn't know what to do so she took out the battery and all works fine now, no update.
I'm wondering if the failure was just because of the phone being rooted, even though she is not on any custom ROM. Anyone know if this is the case?

Yes the keyboard fix probably kept her from updating... there are some stock el30 roms in development that you can flash for in cwm... I believe root is already included in them so if you just want stock el30 that is the way to go... here you go... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21749005

Answer:
1. use R.E., remove the files .zip in the directory /cache
2. scroll down the notification bar and select upgrade message, then select upgrade. the phone will reboot automatic.
3. the phone will stay in the screen with an icon, now remove the battery and put it back.
4. press voldown+camera+poweron, boot in cwm, select "reboot...." and the phone will reboot in android. then the notification will never appear.

I know it's superficial but that's pretty much the only thing I cared about for the EL30 OTA. I've been running CleanGB 1.0.4 MTD as long as it's been available with no complaints.
Love that new callscreen though! The rest of my family just got onto my plan with 3 stock Epics for Christmas, and their new call screens make me jealous. Haha!

Mtd is a parition like bml... except with mtd you (the devs) can choose how big they want /system /data and /cache.... and instead of rfs/ext4 you have the yaffs2 filesystem which is really stable... unlike ext4 if you have to do a battery pull you won't get corrupted data like you do with ext4
