[Q] Bootanimation help - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help creating a boot animation.
I've made the animation, it's 45 .png images.
I just have no idea how to make it a boot animation for my phone i've replaced the images from other boot animations with my own and my phone will just start in about half a second. and like I never turned it to sleep.
what do I do?
could someone try and make it into a boot animation?
the file attached is my images put into another boot animation, the fps (i think) changed in the text file, and re zipped.

try it now

i tried deleting the boot up file...
And for the boot up sound how do I change that?
sgs tools doesnt work...
First off are you rooted? Second are you running a custom rom? If these apply then it should be as easy as replacing the bootanimation.zip file of your choice in the "system/media" folder.

does swiss count as custom rom? and yes i am rooted.

was wondering the same thing used to evo where there is only one boot file on this one theres the samasung screen which i guess is the splash then the galaxy s screen then the srpint animation when shut down could any one kindly tell me which files are which and where there located
Correct me if I'm wrong (anyone) but I think as of now there's no boot animations mods for ee03 (GB).

Sorry can't (don't know how to) post links using the xda app. Just look under the "themes and app" section and you'll see a few posts on boot animation. There's different types but the method is the same. Again it depends if your running a custom rom

Someone posted not to long ago that ee03 natively supported bootanimation.zips
if not then find nubecoders thread about tricking the stock system to run boot zips

Anyone have a way to add ICS startup and shutdown animations to stock rooted de-ciq'ed 2.3.6?
I've seen it custom roms so far, it would be once to a least add it

I would be most interested in this. I'm unable to find any ICS boot animations in this section. Anyone know if it can be extracted straight from the GN and simply be placed in the boot animation directory without consequences?

You need a kernel/rom that supports bootanimation.zip
The stock/touchwiz based roms use a .qmg file for the animation instead.
Also the images in the bootanimation.zip would need to be modified for our resolution 400*800 as opposed to the 1280*720 of the Nexus.
The bootanimation.zip is already available for 400*800 devices & I can confirm it works beautifully on CM7

I'm running Darkside's kernel which supports custom boot animations so thats not a problem.
I assume thats what a CWM flash able zip flashes correct?
Sounds reasonable
Pardon me, but I was unable to find the thread containing the ICS boot animation, could you point me in the right direction?

Do not assume, no it is not a flashable .zip, you will need to manually insert to system/etc/media/
I usually rename the existing one to bootanimation.zip.bak just in case.....
Let me see if I can post it for ya !

If before you have done the backup restore it. If no flash a stock rom with odin, there are topics about.

u can try to connect ur phone with com by using usb cable. Check whether adb shell is able to run. If it can run, ur phone should be able to recover by replacing boot animation.

Do u have any nandroid backup? restoring is the easiest way. May I know which thread u followed?
What I did to change boot animation is to change 2 files, i.e. bootanimation and samsungani under /system/bin/
then put in the bootanimation.zip into /system/media and rename it to sanim.zip.

ok~ if u have CWM recovery, simply flash a new ROM. Else, u can use odin to flash.
You only have white boot sceen right? after apply boot animation mod? And your phone still operate well?
No need to re-flash it, *boring
If you use custom boot animation mod before. You can delete bootanimation and samsungani in system/bin
And delete sanim.zip in system/media folder
this problem cause by wrong in setting permission in bin file or the boot animation doesn't have correct size.

Kernel Messages boot animation

Hi,
I have made this custom boot image for myself and I wanted to share it.
I have disabled the bootanimation and I have enabled the kernel messages instead.
just flash the boot image and remove/rename /system/bin/bootanimation
if anyone is willing to help I would create an update zip which flashes the boot partition and renames /system/bin/bootanimation
Cheers,
Matteo

I've never did that, but if someone is kind enough to do it or point me to a good tutorial I will do
CM9 Skankwich doesn't like it, causes non-stop FC's upon bootup.
Do you know if this will work on a HTC One X?
Thanks

I really don't think so! This is as far as I know a modified Galaxy nexus boot image.
The thread was moved to "Galaxy Nexus Themes and Apps" but I don't really think that it's correct.
Tecnically it isn't a boot animation, is a kernel hack to disable it and show the "raw" boot.
Everything that is printed is printed by the TTY subsystem, it's not rendered by a bootanimation
this is awesome. I disabled my boot animation and it only shows the kernel messages for a few seconds then a plain android boot animation appears. Is there any way to make it longer or is that all that is supposed to come up?
i am on aokp b37 also.
good work!
@teknoraver
I would like to add this as a completely new section in my boot animation thread if that's cool??
Couple of clarifications though:
This looks more like a kernel edit to me and therefore this is somewhat ROM specific in that if folks flash this boot.img it will disable certain ROM specific features controlled by the kernel?
Assuming the above is true, a per ROM boot.img would need to be created to make this work whilst preserving all functionality?
To give an example, if you flash a custom kernel over cm9 you will find some of the settings options are blanked out and you are no longer able to use them unless you have a specific kernel control app or you start fiddling around with init.d scripts.
This sounds kind of like "live logcat", is it similar?

No it's different.
Livelogcat is a bootanimation which draws logcat messages in a complex manner.
My patch disables the animation and let the kernel print messages like it does on PC and servers:

can you give us the source code?

Here, flashable zip in recovery
Using any kernel format installer (koush) does not touch the existing ramdisk (no problem on CM etc)
and Kernel.Messages.bootanimation_Restore.zip reverting /system/bin/bootanimation
(Edit : If you deleted that file already, flash Installing_system.bin.bootanimation.zip to restore)
I used image flasher GUI on my ns4g but apparently it is not supported for gnex. What are some other methods of flashing an image.

How to install Diff. Boot Animations?

Hey If possible is there a tutorial on how to install book Animations on The ATT S3? Its rooted and I have Root Explorer installed.
Thanks
I believe it only is possible on CM and AOKP roms, and they have built in options for that.

Download the app 'ROM toolbox' from play store I believe it has that feature.

It would depend on the kernel. Check for a kernel that supports boot animations.

I did it on my old ATT Moto Atrix and all I can remember is just switching a file. But I totally forgot how or which file
The following is where you can find kernel boot animations that can be flashed in CWM. It does not matter what Rom you are on but it may not work on all Kernels. I can confirm ktweaker and stock work. Obviously you want to have a Nandroid ready http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951551
The following is the tool used to create your own. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928751
Be sure to read carefully if you go the create route!
I'm not entirely sure how to change the swirling Samsung logo itself, but this is a pretty cool start.
Here is a video of me going from stock to the splash screen created for me on page 33. Pardon the shakiness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5F9H5a7nSY&feature=youtu.be

In fairness I did mention that I changed my splash screen. And while not exactly what he is looking for, it is up the same alley, at least within 1 second of boot time. If changing boot on stock is not possible, at least this is something.

Not mad at ya bro, just stating a fact. The first sentence in your post states this is where u can find kernel "boot animations" that are cwm flashable with provided link. Just didn't want anyone getting mislead or confused, that is all. I am currently using the good and evil one... Pretty cool...
Sorry guys this post has become convoluted rambling so I have edited it to try to make simpler.
1: My very first step was to flash the 'supernova _bootanimation_support.zip' file from the following link. It enabled bootanimation support for my rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239130 (click 'flashable zips'')_
2: take bootanimation.zip file from any of the lower sites and push it to data/local and reboot.
This is the best one I have ever seen. The youtube link in the post shows video of it running on an S2, so I am posting a screenshot of it working on my S3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982078&highlight=boot+animation
Here is another one that I will confirm working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30478959&postcount=20
Also this one if you open the zip /data and take the bootanimation.zip out and put in sd/data/local. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888848&highlight=boot+animation
I am testing these and adding as I go.
