{Q} porting elements of one rom to another. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can the inc/evo browser be ported to miui? I like the menu options available ie ability to view history mainly. And the +windows visual ui. Also, can sense widgets be ported to miui? That rom lacks good widgets. I'm guessing the answer is no. Just thought id ask.

navigating evo without sense ui

Hello everyone,
I tried looking for some information on this topic, but was not able to find any.
Is there a way to import all the widgets from sense ui to launcher? I have tried for example the clock and it doesn't behave like it does in sense.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
No you can't use sense Widgets unless you're using sense as your launcher.

Can I import some of the widgets from sense ui? I seen videos on google where the evo is running androind ui and almost all the widgets were accessible.
Is this possible?

[Q] Port Dialer from one sense rom to another

Does anyone know how to port a dialer from one rom to another? Specifically I am looking to use the dialer from this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206653 or any of the other roms with a similar dialer to use on any of the available sense 3.0 roms such as this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234722
I think the dialer from the Mytouch 4g is far superior to the dialer on the sense 3.0 roms we have now but the rest of the UI on those roms including the borders around all the icons sucks.
I have tried copying over the apks for the dialer and phone and have gotten nothing and when I tap on the phone it just says "Phone" and the dialer doesn't open. Is there something I'm missing here? Any help would be appreciated.
+100
Would love to see this. The myTouch4g dialer is awesome. I've been wondering how to do this myself.

If someone could help out with this I would definitely put together a custom ROM with sense 3.0 plus the MyTouch 4g dialer and some other customizations.
It was stated in the mytouch I do believe it isn't possible as of now. Fc

Some more possibly noobish questions

I was wondering if it was possible or if it already exists a tweak or mod that allows sense roms to view homescreens in a landscape format like in nitsuj's tsm bullet Rom without having to use a launcher from the app market? Second question probably more pertains to the themes and apps section but I am currently running a sense 3.5 rom and although these roms are pretty smooth I am not fond of the rounded nav bar or bliss rosie options but I do like the sense 4 nav bar/dock bar or rosie whatever the correct term is but I know that has 5 buttons compared to the 3 that I currently have, is there a way to implement that into my current Rom or would that not work due to being way to different and if not are there any themes or mod to accomplish this?

The short answer is no.

That's kind of what I figured but I wasn't having much luck with google and I am in no way shape or form linux savvy

It's A LOT easier if you just take any ROM that you like and just put a theme over it.
Like for example I am currently running patwip's Unofficial CM 10.1.3 latest release, and there are themes available like this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmobile.theme.HTC.EleganceX
21Mb download and everything, icons, status bar, colors, settings look like an HTC Sense UI
If you prefer using the stock ROM, simply download a good launcher like Go Launcher EX Prime, it supports and has 1000s of themes, several of which have Sense UI.
But this theme style will be restricted only to your app drawer and homescreen, so not as thorough as in CM.
SenseUI can be ported, but only to devices with similar hardware. You can't just port the launcher because it has many dependencies including the kernel. You pretty much have to port a whole sense ROM which would be a pain for any dev to undertake, several have tried and failed on other devices. So it's just easier to theme a launcher.
EDIT (found some more info) : Apparently, the framework for HTC is closed source which means devs can't use it and make it public fearing legal consequences.
Hope that helps answer your questions

I get that, but I like mentioned in my last post. SenseUI launcher cannot be ported because the framework is closed source and has strong dependencies on the hardware of HTC phones, so I was suggesting alternatives.
Besides, CM themeing is not restricted to just icons and looks of the launcher, depending on the theme/version the following things are themed : frameworks-res, systemui, settings, contacts, mms/sms + widget, phone, trebuchet, browser, apollo + widget, keyboard.
So it gives a pretty good feel of a ported launcher without compromising much memory or functionality.
