Hi,
I bought my husband the HTC desire HD, he currenlty has the HTC Touch HD, i bought the new one on Ebay and all was good, however the idiot i bought it from has then subsequently had it blocked and done an insurance job on the phone. Is there any way i can unblock it, only thing is my hubby is going to come back from Afghanistan then fill this F****r in and get the 350 pound back. please help if there is anyway.
I'm not sure but I doubt it. Get a refund back fast and don't buy off of eBay. I see a lot of people that are buying phones from eBay and are getting ripped off.
Unfortunately your only real hope is to get a refund via Paypal, as long as you paid via Paypal of course!
Once the phone has been reported lost/stolen to the network, it is blocked on all UK networks. This is done by identifying the phone via it's serial number (IMEI). Only the registered owner can have it unblocked. Any other method is illegal and carries a £5000 fine or upto 5 years in prison.
If he sold you it then reported it lost/stolen, then he has commited insurance fraud, although the police won't be that helpful, I'd report the seller to them, and also there is an insurance fraud website at http://www.insurancefraudbureau.org/.
Let us know how you get on.
Get on to ebay and paypal and file a claim in the resolution centre thing, and ask for a refund straight away, the quicker the better.
Relief and thanks
well, i carried out an extensive search through all my transactions, i got the guys name address number the full ish, i then re contacted orange, explained again what had happened and then told them the reason for buying, as my hubby played his old Blackstone HD to death as he said cooked it flashed it etc, i want to get him the new state of the art phone, well believe it or not orange said well he said he didnt recieve the phone and filed a missing phone, and they then re instated the phone so a big bonus for me.
So is there anything i can download on here for him so he can play til his hearts content when he gets back from Afghan, any ideas welcome.
Cheers Tash
Wicked result, congrats..... as for apps n games im not sure as ive just got mine this week

There are some people in this world that are just out to make money - 1 up for the honest people!!!
I assume it's running on the Orange gumpf? If so, I'd either look to debrand it and then let your partner do what he wants with it or just leave it all to him so if he breaks it it's his fault!!!

So here is my story
I purchased an HTC touch pro 2 last year, i bought it before it hit the US markets so i paid a load of money for it. No problem, i love the phones, and i Paid like $700 for the Touch HD when it dropped in England but the lack of the keyboard ended with me selling it.
So i get this phone from a guy that says its direct from HTC its in an exclusive white box blah blah blah right.
Get the phone and all is well, new roms are dropping and i have WM 6.1 on my phone (weak!) so being that i have a MAC computer i cannot do anything to update the phone with out buying a load of software and putting XP on my computer (nope!).
So i go to the HTC website and the update is there and it asks for the serial number, well i put it in and it wont recognize it, hmmm. So long story intro short, i mail it to HTC for an upgrade and maybe check out the loose hinge on the tilting screen.
They receive my phone, and my phone sits on the shelf at the warehouse for 5 DAYS!!!
I call and every time i get the same story, "well mr miller we will escalate this so that it gets taken care of right away sir." I called 3 times and it was never touched. Finally on the 3rd time they tell me, well this is a sample phone, one we gave to employees before it hit the market, so there is no warranty, and we cannot upgrade it, and where did YOU get this phone. Ummm i paid for it, out in the open on Ebay, not out of the trunk of some guys car outside the pool hall.
Anyway they wont fix it, i have no warranty and thats that, ok fine whatever give my phone back, this was on Monday (April 5th) of this week. So the phone is to be sent back to me per HTC on Monday.
Call on Tuesday to get the tracking number so i can see when it will arrive because i am out a lot, and they say it is still in the warehouse.
I call back on Wednesday to get the tracking number so that i can see when it will arrive because i am out a lot, and they say it is STILL in the warehouse.
I call back on Thursday to get the tracking number so i can see when it will arrive...... etc etc.
The rep then tells me there are no notes in the system and it has not even been started for ship out.
But she is going to escalate it so that it gets sent out ASAP Mr. Miller.
Lord not this escalate crap again.
OK BYE!
I call today Friday to get the tracking number, and its the supervisor i spoke with days ago that knows AAAAALL about my case.
Well Mr. Miller the phone is still sitting on the shelf in our warehouse/
WTF for a week+?!?!
It had been determined last WEEK that they were not going to repair it and were going to send it back.
So my phone has been held hostage by HTC and they wont send it back, no one will do anything to get me over to someone in the warehouse, they act as if its Area 57 or something and they dont have phones there.
So needless to say am very VERY disappointed in the treatment I have received and it is very likely that I will not purchase another HTC phone again after this nightmare.
Shame because i enjoy the phones, but i refuse to give my money to support a company that treats its clients in such a manner.
FYI
Area 51, by the way.
Perhaps you should purchase phones after they have hit common carriers instead of trying to blame your mistake on the company.
Sure, they could have sent your phone back to you a bit faster, but if you're unwise enough to purchase a phone off of eBay, you've got larger issues than your phone coming back to you. Besides, it was only there for a week? I've not had any such luck with HTC and having my personal cell held hostage. I guess it all goes back to buying a phone after it has hit the market...
If you ask me, you did it to yourself, Mr. Miller.

Now, I don't mean they will take your money and you wont get your code, what upsets me is, on the front of their site it says -
All phones cost €15 (20% off - normal price €18) to unlock.
Click to collapse
Nothing else to say, plain and clear, they will unlock any HTC phone for €15. FALSE
If you have a Desire, you pay your €15, you try what it says and it wont work. You then get an e-mail saying 'You need to use the new database, this costs €20 more'
I have then declined this, as I have the option, I was only going to unlock it to increase the phone value, rather than I need it. I feel sorry for those really in need, you don't really have a choice at this point.
Now, it wouldn't be so bad if when I declined and asked for a refund, it was just done... but it wasn't. 24 hours later and they still have my €15.
Does no-one else see that the way they are operating is wrong?
Who can I report this to? If a shop on the High Street advertised a TV for £449 and when I got to the till they took my £449 and then told me I had to pay another £600, I say I no-longer want the TV they then wont refund me, I could go to trading standards. Who deals with online scams?
Personally, I'm disappointed MoDaCo are linked to them, I went to them because their link is up their on every forum, I assumed they were a reputable site.
I've also had a bad experience with them.
When I was unlocking my Hero their server was down originally. Got an online tech and he spoke to me for a few seconds then just ignored me. The next two days techs were all offline but then eventually the server was up, got my code and it didn't work. Logged another support call.
I actually figured out the problem myself in the end. That goodness, because my support call still hasn't been answered.
Overall very shoddy.
I thought they would be quite reputable since they are recommended on MoDaCo (site ran by the Paul, who rooted the desire).
hope you get it sorted soon!

I know, that's what disappoints me.
Was worried about the site after I paid €15 for an unlock code that did not work, then I read their forums...
Anyway I then paid the US$35 via papal this was middle of the night in India where I think they are based. Mailed them as well and refund & working code delivered in a few hours.
Not sure they are the best at communicating but I got a working code in a few hours for £23.51 so reasonably happy with that for an unlocked and flashed Desire
yes I was also annoyed that new phones are excluded from the deal. they also only query the database with new phones once every 12 hours. though the code did work in the end!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I bought the Desire unlocked, but I needed an unlock code for my Touch HD (which went to my GF once I received the Desire). Got it from HTCCode in a couple of hours (paid via Moneybookers, so the code is provided by email), and only paid EUR15, 'as advertised'.
What can I say, I was satisfied with their service... very quick answer considering I requested the code after their COB that day.
Yeah, you would be happy, you got the advertised price. To be honest, it's not the actual price I mind. If it just had all prices on the front page and you could look up the Desire to be €35, then it would be fine. It's that they charge you one price, then ask for over twice as much once you've already given them some.
And then, saying I will get my refund... but not giving it to me. I have started a Paypal dispute.
Have considered using their service, but will phone up t-mobile. they charge 15 pounds but the wait is slightly longer. No biggie.
have used them
hiya guys,
i have used them before to unlock my hd2. when i first registered i had the same problems as my code wasn't in the database.
i got in contact with htc code via messenger, guy sudan explained to me that they were waiting on a database update and my handset was fairly new so would have to wait a few days.
i received an email telling me that the database was up to date, then i was able to retrieve my code.
it isnt really the fault of the supplier but more a fault of htc not releasing an updated code database... the desire is a brand new phone, and imei numbers will not be in the database yet.
i would try adding the guy to messenger details are on the site, and he should be able to explain.
bear with them though as it is a good service, hes prob just waiting on the update.. and i know we are all a little impatient at times.
dan
Took 2 days for my code. keep emailing them, they do come through eventually and work OK.

I think you're missing the point. They are misleading people by saying they unlock ANY HTC PHONE for only €15 and then bump the price up €20 more... How is it not their fault that they are misleading people?
Im sorry that u had that kind of problem. Paypal dispute should be a solution.
My experience with them was very good. Got 2 unlock codes for my Hero and HD2 in a couple of minutes, although with the Hero, I had to flash another generic rom in order to get the unlock code to work
Currently in a paypal dispute with them over this. I asked nicely for a refund and got nowhere.
And this is the other point. When you suddenly ask for more money than you said it would be, if the other party declines, be good and just give them their money back! It's amazing they get away with it tbh.
I did my research before ordering. Knew I would have to pay 25 euros after reading their forums. Got the code 24 hours after sending the money. Good service in the end. They are slow but I've heard many people in the same situation as the OP get their money back before successfully getting their code. I agree its not like a proper pro outfit but they do deliver and you need to take into account that they are based in India... One happy customer here....

Well that'a the thing they are not stating it will cost extra if you just go off the website, which many people do especially when people seem to rate them so well on some forums
Similar story to you guys on here, paid the stated amount. did not work, to the forums and realised I had to pay more. They eventually refunded my original amount and took the new amount. Bit of drama really for something they could easily be stated correctly on their site.
the front page offer "Unlock any HTC phone [] for €15" is certainly a lie.
HTCCODE does work but better to check their forum first and as mentioned you need to pay directly to their email address using paypal for new sets like Desire.
I payed 15 Euro and then had to send another $25 which is a bit strange and leap of faith but in the end got unlock code for my HTC Desire and 15 Euro refunded. So it cost me just $25 (around £19).
Paypal told me on the phone they cannot give me a refund... but I just received an e-mail from them telling me they have overturned my claim and I have my refund!
I'm going to try HTCunlock.com for £20 instead!
So I had two nexus, one on contract and one bought a few days after release sim free off the net, although met in person. One phone was for a sim that was in a iPhone contract and wanted to switch, so needed one contract free phone.
Well two weeks later one of the phones now won't make calls. Called network provider and they told me this handset is barred, and there is no way they could unbar unless I was the person who barred it.
Now what the hell can I do? Obviously the person who I bought it from is now not available..... Typical.
Can I make this phone work? Don't want to be left with a expensive unusable handset? Is there any way someone else can make it work?
Thanks.
Ps, the lady on the phone really didn't seem to care about the whole situation to be honest.

If you phone displays "outcoming calls are barred"(which seems to be the case) then it is 100% network issue, nothing wrong with the phone. Unless the person you bought it from reported the phone as stolen, then it will be banned from all networks permanently.
The un helpful lady told me no more than the imei is "b-listed" and to contact the phones first owner......
Which I now can't bloody do.
Barred on all networks? So no network will work, And the phone will no more than touch style device? .....
Fun days. Not buying a phone that way again.....

Sounds like you've been burned with a common insurance scam where the seller reports the phone as stolen. I got hit with it on a G1 bought from eBay.
If you bought through eBay / similar you may be able to report it to the cops (depending on your country of origin).
I'm UK based and it took me 6 months and getting eBay, PayPal (both useless) and the UK police involved; I reported it as criminal fraud and after a while found someone to take it seriously.
The investigating officer finally got me a full refund + return costs but it was a hell of a lot of stress. I now only buy from physical stores or well established web fronts.
Good luck with trying to get your money back.
Cheers Cokemonkey, have done a fair bit of reading it most certainly seems that way. Suppose gumtree is the place for Thiefs.
After going through forums etc it seems it works abroad, our should. So thinking of advertising on there. Need to speak to my friend, haven't been able to get hold of her all day, and she probably knows what's going on more thank do to be fair lol.
Maybe see if any one abroad will or can buy it if the working outside the UK but is true. If that's not against the law? Don't know where I stand to be honest and I'd it was really loads of aggro I don't want to bee going through it for six months, especially as future is less secure than Ebay in that respect.
Thanks for the input :'-(

If it is barred then you can't use a UK so you'll need to change the IMEI which in itself is illegal in the UK.
Each time you enter a sim it checks for the unique code which is registered when your phone is blocked. Hence why you'll get no signal.
An international sim will work if you are using it abroad.
However as posted by thunder it could be that the phone is network locked so only the original network sim will work you need to find out if it's network locked or actually blocked.

that seller dun wan asnwer my call anymore
mean i can solve this problem by unlocked the network or using other sim which not from any UK network right?
Use checkmend. Google it. Think it's £1.99 and it will tell you it's status. Wether it's network barred, reported lost or stolen.

i confirm that the phone is get barred ~
so what i can do right now?
pls save me
Ask the seller for a refund. It could be a stolen phone or insurance scammed. I would first ask the seller and or contact the forum mods which in turn may tell you to go to the police if it's a stolen handset.
There is nothing you can do legally to change imei as this is illegal.

Sounds like you've been pretty much done in. Based on the condition you're describing it surely classes as having been sold a faulty or misrepresented good, so it's time to do the following (and fast):
If an intermediary like PayPal was used, file a complaint immediately and dispute the transaction
Get in touch with your bank and file for a chargeback; with credit cards you have pretty much guaranteed cover here, for debit cards you should still be covered so long as it's VISA [1][2]
Also, don't forget that Distance Selling Regulations entitle you to an unconditional 7-day window for returning any good you're not happy with so long as it's in original condition (it is not necessary for the packaging to be in good condition or even present at all).
You can of course consider notifying the police too, but that may result in the phone being confiscated and you not getting your money back. If the seller won't respond to your contact now, the chargeback should get his attention and you can go ahead and return the phone if you like — then tell the police anyway once you have your money.
As I see it, you're most likely going to get your money back so long as the purchase wasn't below £100 and thus not eligible for cover (If you seriously thought you were getting a legit One X for this much WTF were you thinking?), done through pure cash, or past the claim time limit — if any of those are the case I guess you can treat this as a hard lesson in how to shop more carefully online.

DSR won't apply with this situation as it was a private sale according to the OP.
You have to be very careful when doing private sales on forums, same thing happened to me, bought my sister a SGS2 it came with a receipt and everything from a private seller, a year later she went to CPW to trade in and they found out that it was an insurance scammed phone! The odd thing was it wasn't barred as UK sims were still working in them but could have been barred at anytime.
Contact the seller, say if they don't give the only back you will contact the police as effectively this was a fraudulent sale, they probably won't do much at all but hey it'll make the seller aware you won't give up.
But contact the moderators of the forum you purchased this from and let them get involved as well.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Ah, didn't realise DSR didn't apply to such sales. As a general rule I avoid private selling like the plague because I've heard too many horror stories, unless it's via eBay which offers you somewhat reasonable protection and is why you should insist on going through such a medium unless you literally know the person.
OP: I think you can still go down the chargeback route though, have a look through the links I posted before and figure out if you can make a claim. You never know simply appealing to the seller's goodwill by saying it doesn't work may get you a refund, but I'm guessing not.
Hi i had this happen to me, i swapped my SGS 2 for another phone and the phone i swapped for become barred.. I didnt know what to do but a friend of mine said contact the police, so i did i gave them the persons name and contact number who i got it off and the police managed to get my phone back and it was in London too on its way to India (im from Sheffield). So i would suggest contacting the police worth a shot:good:

Good to hear a positive story for once with the feds doing something positive! Quie common for phones to end up back in Asia, big demand for them there as well as all the scams that go on with them!
Ok so i sold my iphone 4 and bought htc one x from craigslsit.
it worked fine that day and then suddenly a few hours later the voice message that i cant make calls. no problem. took it to att they said its stolen
give it back to us. what? are u gonna pay me the price i paid for the phone. left the store. called the guy 100 times , ringing - never picked up the phone. ok filed a police report. detective wants to talk to me but i dont have a phone, have a sim that is blocked. didnt go to my work for at least a week becuase i missed all the important calls. no reponce yet from police and from the seller. i have the proofe - his ad, his ethnicity and phone number. ok i may be receive call from detective with in 3-4 days on my dads cell, so they can start tracking that guy. not worry much about the timing process to catch the seller. but guys i cant even imagine what att did. my line is under my dad's account and he has 5 lines. now just bu putting my sim card in the stolen phone. all the lines are cancelled because they said its under the federal law to cancel all the line if aught using the stolen phone so now all my family members are sittting in house. finding a solution to this matter. just wanna have some of the member opinion on this. should i go back to store and give them the phone and lose all the money and in return they will unblock all the lines except mine or wait till the cop catch the buyer. help plz .... :crying:
It doesn't matter how much you paid for stolen goods, they don't belong to you.
I thought this was the One X forum.
Sent from my One X
You're going to lose the money whatever you decide to do, because even if they catch him the phone's not yours; I'd imagine they'll take it off you anyway to try and return to its rightful owner and tell you that you're lucky not to be charged with handling stolen goods.
I don't think you're going to get any useful advice on your situation on here if I'm honest.
Get yourself a good lawyer.
